I cannot TYPE in Windows 2008 remotre server.
I can open, close, save and ctrl+alt+delete to open the task manager, but that's it because I cannot type.
When I close the remote connection everything else works just fine.

    Hi Amanda,
In addition, you can also try to update RDP edition and NIC driver on problematic machines to see if it works.

The current Domain Controller is the Operations Master. To Transfer the Operations Master to a different Domain

  • Can't print to Windows 7 shared printer from Mac OS Lion

    Dear all,
I would like to share my experience battling to figure out how to print to Windows 7 shared printer from Mac OS Lion. Myself had this problem and looking throughly in internet without success. But finally I figured out the solution by myself, hope this can help other Mac user with similar problem.
OK, when I try to setup my new MacBook Pro with OS Lion to connect with my Canon MX308 printer attached to desktop with Windows 7 Ultimate,
    1. I simply select System Preferences>Print & Scan.
    2. Then looks for the + sign just below the box to add a new printer.
    3. From the option toolbar above, I select Windows. I have connect this MacBook with my Windows Network, so the workgroup will appear to the left column.
    4. After I select this group, the computer list will appear in the middle column
    5. Then after I select the computer which my printer connected to, my printer sharename will appear in the right column
    6. Last step is to select the printer I want to use.
    7. After that it will automatically put your printer sharename to the "Name". And then I select my printer driver at "Print Using" and find my printer manufacturer which is Canon MX300 series from driver lists. Finish!
My printer appear in the Printers List. But the problem is everytime I try to print there will be error message saying "ON HOLD Authentication Required".
This problem start to kill me, I search all around for similar problem, but the solution was never worked for me!
Until just now I figured out accidentally for the solution.
THE PROBLEM LIES ON MY PRINTER DRIVER!!!! Although I have downloaded the most update driver from Apple site and Apple Software update said there is no more update for my system!
The solution for my problem is Gutenprint Printer Driver! You can download this driver at http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/MacOSX.php, then select for the latest driver gutenprint-5.2.7.dmg. Install this driver!
Then back to Print & Scan in System Preferences, then right click on Printers List box, then choose "Reset Printing System..." to clear the previous failed printers.
After that, repeat the above step 2 - 7. Only for the last step I need to select the Printer Driver for my Canon MX308 for the driver name : "Canon PIXMA MX300 - CUPS+Gutenprint v5.2.7"
Now I can sleep as a baby knowing that my printer make a friend with my new Macbook Pro! Hope this will help others!

I have the same setup but with a Canon MX850.  This did not fix my problem.

  • How to install hard drive into mac pro

how to install hard drive into mac pro

I recently bought a new 2TB internal sata drive for my Macpro.
The installation was easy, but I'm not sure what to do next.
For one, should I partition the drive?
My purpose for buying the drive was to use it as my go to drive for Parallels. I used to run my music studio on Windows based machines, and my older project files require a windows OS to recover. I installed Parallels so I can have my studio running Mac and Windows programs which will enable me to access my old project files and take them into my newer Protools system.
So now, I've installed my new hard drive, but I'm not sure if I should partition it....And!? I'm not sure how to designate that drive for my virtual pc on Parallels. I was able to allocate enough disk space to parallels in order to load my music software, but at this point, I'm not sure if I've just promised it disk space from my original partitioned drive (which only has about 350 GB left on it).
I would love to be able to make one internal drive available for Parallels, and the other available for the rest of my OSX. When I use Parallels, I still would like to save some extra information on the 2TB drive as well from my dekstop running OSX.
I hope this makes sense! Your help is much appreciated!

  • Macbook Pro fails to access Windows XP shared drives

Last fall, my wife bought a Macbook - our first. We have two Windows XP systems that have file sharing turned on. One is a central file storage with an attached USB drive.
I Don't recall what I did, although I know I was following directions on networking, but my wife's Macbook with OS X 10.5.6 can see and fully access the Windows shared drives. They show up in Finder under "Shared." She is not sharing her drive with the network and that's just fine.
I purchased a Macbook Pro a week ago. I have tried all the suggested functions but I cannot see the shared drives. The Finder --> Connect to server function does not find the machines or drives.
I phone Apple support and they said they don't support file sharing off the PC. I have read dozens of articles with no results. Any help?

    Hi
Assuming all nodes on the network are being assigned IP addresses then you should be able to connect by IP address. To find out what IP address your PCs are using select Run from the Start Menu, key in cmd or command. You should now be in DOS/Prompt. At the blinking cursor key in ipconfig /all followed by a return carriage. It should list the IP address the PC is using. Provided its set to Share its drive then on your mac select Connect to Server (command+k) from the Go Menu and key in smb://IPaddressofPC.
Provide a user name and password when prompted. This would be the PC's local admin account name and password.
Having said that you should be able to 'see' the PCs under the Shared section in the Sidebar anyway? You could try creating another Admin account, logging in with that to see if the behaviour changes? Ditching the com.apple.sidebarlists.plist from /Users/Home/Library/Preferences followed by a restart might help? You could also try toggling File Sharing on/off.

  • Windows 2008 R2 Driver for HP Laserjet 8150 - Network Connect Fails With 0x000004005 Error

    Dear All,
I'm trying to connect to a network laserjet 8150 with Windows 2008 R2.  The server keeps complaining that it can't access a suitable driver - even if I point it specifically to the universal printer drivers available on the HP web pages.
Connecting to the printer manually with a new TCP/IP port seems to work but I need to be able to use the 'right-click, connect' option as the printer is not using a standard port for normal use.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Many thanks.

  • Converting old windows ntfs hard drives to mac

    hello All
i hope that someone can help i have 3 old Ntfs hard drives, but my mac will not search thought them for files via spotlight, even though i have a program which allows the info to be read, peg something its called.
i want to convert the drives to mac, but is there a way to do which will keep the data on the drives and with out loosing the data or corupting it.
also i have a drive with window which i run boot camp and parallels, does that have to be nfts to work or can that be converted too?
    i hope some can help
    mike

Hi Mike and welcome to Discussions.
Spotlight can't index drives formatted to NTFS because OS X can't write on them (indexing involves writing on the drive) and so can't search them, but you can search them using EasyFind for instance because OS X can read NTFS volumes.
    http://www.devon-technologies.com/products/freeware/index.html
I believe with MacFuse you can add write capability to OS X for NTFS.
I'm wondering if you couldn't convert your NTFS drive (while connected to a PC) to FAT32 which is read/writeable by OS X. But note though that FAT32 has a file size limit of 4GB, in case that matters to what you use the computer for. And _make sure_ you have a backup before attempting this. There are various ways of doing it it depending on the OS of the PC. I believe Partition Magic can do this, but Google around.
also i have a drive with window which i run boot camp and parallels, does that have to be nfts to work or can that be converted too?
What do you mean by this - is Windows installed on the drive using boot camp?

  • Install external drive into mac pro

I have stored my itunes library on an external hard drive and now that i have purchased a mac pro i would like to install the external hard drive into the mac pro and continue to use the drive for the library. The external drive is a deskstar in an enclosure that i can just slide it out of so i can install it in the mac pro. Will this work or is there a better way?

Turn off the option in the Advanced section of the iTunes preferences to copy the files to the iTunes music folder, and then drag the folder into the open iTunes window. This will not preserve playlists and other metadata.

  • Format of ipod classic is still windows after i plug into mac?

I bought a new Mac  I have an ipod classic  I have followed the tutorial on how to move my music from my old pc to my mac but it doesnt work.  Why does my format still show windows why my old ipod is plugged in to new mac??

You need to restore the iPod to factory settings in iTunes on the Mac for it to be reformatted to a Mac iPod.  Otherwise, the Mac will continue to use the iPod with a Windows fomatted HD, since a Mac can read and write to a FAT32 formatted hard drive.

However, I cannot seem to access Audio CDs, I can see the contents of the CD but cannot play the CD...... is this possible? What I'd like to do is import a CD into iTunes but when I "Add to Library" in iTunes nothing happens, any ideas please?

Looks like it isn't going to work at all.

  • Mac can't see files on Windows XP shared drive

I'm trying to move about 180Gb of files from an external USB 2.0-connected hard drive on my networked Windows XP machine. The drive is marked for sharing, and I can see the first layer of folders on the drive, as well as see and identify the 3 files that are on the same first layer as the folders. When I open a folder, however, no files or folders are visible to the Mac, and the info bar says no files are in the folder, but it gives me the correct free space on the drive. I have 2 similar hard drives on the XP machine, and the same situation holds for both drives. I'm quite puzzled, and, needless to say, frustrated.

Are you trying to access the USB drive connected to an XP machine from your Mac?
There are several issues at play here, and you might search these discussions for "connecting to Windows". I have a similar challenge connecting to shared folders on my XP machine.
In your case it might be simpler to simply reconnect the USB drive to your Mac.
Another method is to turn on File Sharing and enable SMB on your Mac, create Network Places on your XP machine, mount the Mac folders in XP and move the files using the XP machine. That works more easily for me.

  • Moving Files NTFS (Windows) to external drive to Mac

I have some files from a windows computer which has a hard drive format of NTFS. I need to get it onto my Mac which is Mac OS Extended (Journaled). I have an external hard drive that i use for editing videos with final cut normally. I want to know what format I should make my external hard drive so that I can transfer files from the windows pc to my mac.
when i go to 'disk utility' it only gives me a bunch of different Mac OS Extended things (either Journaled, Case-Sensitive, or Case-Sensitive Journaled), MS-DOS (FAT), or Free Space.
will any of those work? if not, what do i do?

i tried plugging in my external hard drive which was formatted as Mac OS Extended (Journaled), and the windows computer (NTFS) wouldn't recognize it.
But I am transferring video files that were shot in HD, so they're larger than 4GB's sometimes.
what do you mean by installing MacDrive on the PC?
also, how would i network the computers without using the drive?
also, new side note, the PC ONLY has USB ports on it :/
i'm not the one that owns the pc, some guy owns it and has all this footage he shot on a crappy camera and i have to get it off his computer and on mine to start editing it. i'm in a real big jam here
