I can enter via windows xp in virtual box, I see the files, bet when I try to copy them, it hangs up.
How to make that god damn thing work?

If you<ve only got pictures on that memory card, then I suggest trying to use a program like gtkam (if using GNOME) or digikam (if using KDE) or something similar to download the pictures.
I doubt that you could mount your camera as a partition, since the kernel doesn<t recognize a partition table on the device.

Because something is wrong.  Most likely, either:
    (1) your Mac OS X Startup disk is damaged and you need to repair or reinstall OS X,
         - or -
    (2) you are not following the correct update workflow and should use the help from this Apple article.
For instance, if you are trying to update via  > Software Update..., restart Mac and download and install the Download Center version: Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update 5.04.

  • IPod touch recognized and mounted as digital camera

I've connected my ipod tonight and for my surprise it was recognized by windows (7 RC1) as a digital camera and mounted as an external storage device. It shows 4.2GB of total space in DCF file system (?), wich is the amount shown in itunes as free space, what's goin on? is it indeed to happen? O_o
    2.2.1 firmware and itunes 8.1

    hello simonhwsn,
this seems to be dependant to the OS due the same os is used on iPhones which has the camera function.
I have a iPod Touch 2G and updated to OS 3.0.
Due this seems to be a feature and not a bug,
I use this function to use my iPod as built-in USB-Stick
to carry additional files always with me.

    Hello,
Gphoto is great, but there is a bug with the '--new' option. It wants to overwrite the files anyway. Does anyone of you know how to download the most recent files i.e. the files which are not already on my HDD? My camera is a Nikon P300 and it seems this camera does not work very well with the --new option
    Thanks for your help,
    #EO
It's not a bug, if you execute in a terminal man gphoto2 you will see something like this
    --new
Only get not already downloaded files. This option depends on
camera support of flagging already downloaded images and is not
    available for all drivers.
So it's all about what kind of camera do you use. I guess you're just one of the unlucky ones regarding this matter.
Just use a graphical picture camera extractor like Darktable or  Digikam which will allow you to extract only the files you want.

  • IPhoto: Pictures will not open/cannot import from Digital Camera

    hey guys!
I'm just recently having problems with iPhoto. I can open pictures on my iMac when clicking on them through folders itself, but when I go into iPhoto and try to double-click on the thumbnail images which show up to make them full size, they do not open..the wheel just spins to show its loading but the pictures do not load.
Also, when i click IMPORT to import pictures from my digital camera, the wheel also just spins and it does nothing again, and says it couldnt import the pictures as they are an unrecognized file, which is weird as this had all worked before.
    thanks!

  • Cannot load pictures from Fuji F10 digital camera onto OSX 10.5.2

I cannot load pictures from my fuji F10 digital camera. The Fuji support site does not appear to have any firmware that would allow compatibility between the two but was wondering if anyone has any ideas. I can't even bring them over using a zip drive because I get an error stating that the files are corrupt. any help is appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Chuck

What brand of camera do you have? Perhaps you might take it up with the manufacturer, after all, they are the ones who decide whether to support mounting on the OS X Desktop.
Given the amount of pictures I take, constantly taking my card in and out of the camera puts wear and tear on it,
Using a USB Card Reader is a much better and safer way to transfer your photos:
    1. Less risk of your images being lost if your camera shuts down during transfer.
    2. It saves the battery on your camera
    3. It saves wear and tear on your camera ports - and replacing a worn USB port on a camera is somewhat more expensive than replacing a camera card - and what "wear and tear" is there on a card?
    4. It’s almost always faster.

  • I cannot download photos from my digital camera to Iphoto (version '09). I have been able to successfully do this up to 4 days ago but not yesterday. My camera/device is recognized in the Source List but photos won't download for me to import to library.

I cannot download photos from my digital camera (via a cable) to Iphoto (version '09). I have been able to do this successfully up til 4 days ago but not yesterday (Dec. 25th). My camera/device is recognized in the Source List, but when it tries to download the photos, all I get are the words "Loading Photos" in the area where the thumbnail pictures usually display. The little "gear" symbol next to the words but it just goes round and round. Nothing ever downloads, and instead of showing me how many pictures there are to import it just says "No photos". So therefore I cannot import the photos to my library since they won't even download.
I was getting an error message a few days ago that my Iphoto library was getting full, so I emptied my trash in both Iphoto and on my computer. I had this same problem back in October and emptying the trash and getting rid of some photos did help (can I really be using that much storage space for the pictures?). But it didn't help this time.
Any suggestions as to what to do to solve the problem? I would try taking the SD card out and inserting that into the slot on the computer to see if I could load pictures that way; but the last time I did that, they wouldn't load. Not sure if I lost pics from the disc or not.
    Thank you,
    Novice50

    1. You did not get an error message telling you that your iPhoto library was getting full. You got a message telling you that your HD was getting full, right?
OS X needs about 10 gigs of hard drive space for normal OS operations - things like virtual memory, temporary files and so on.
Without this space your Mac will slow down as the OS hunts for space on the disk, files will be fragmented, also slowing things down, apps will crash and the risk of data corruption - that is damage to your files, photos, music - increases exponentially.
Your first priority is to make more space on that HD. Nothing else can be done until you do.
Purchase an external HD and move your Photos and Music to it. Both iPhoto and iTunes can run perfectly well with the Library on an external disk.
Your Library has been damaged from being run on an overfull disk.
How much free space on it now?

  • Digital camera mount in car

Ok me and seester want to record ourselves in car on road trip. We used a go pro and it was too wide of an angle. We want to get a good digital camera and mount it properly to see both of us and be able to hear us well. What is the best for this

You can change the field of view (wide angle) on GoPros. But either way just remember, you can get ticketed for having them "in your vision" on the dash. I got one in the Viper on the way home from a trackday (ironically one of the few times I drove it there instead of trailering it). Video camera mounted on the roof hoop of the roll cage on the pass side facing forwards and a state trooper pulled me for it. Not even speeding.
My mount I had was a custom made one that clamps on the roll bar and has a ball mount for aiming with a 1/4-20 stud to mount the camera. Basically cannibalized a manfrotto ball mount to make this. Looks like a big "L" where the camcorder sits, 1/4-20 stud on the lower "L" and the ball mount bolts on the top of the "L", then the clamps on the other side of the ball mount. Wasnt the prettiest, but it worked and vibration was minimal with stabilization off.

  • Digital Camera Won't Mount

Hello, I have a Canon Powershot SD630 digital camera. Whenever I connect my camera to my computer via USB, iPhoto opens up normally and I can download the pictures to my computer fine. Although the camera will not mount on my desktop in order to see the contents of the SD memory card. Can anybody help me?

Another option would be to invest in an inexpensive card reader. If you put your camera's card into the reader, iPhoto will still open, but the card will mount on your desktop, too. I also use a Canon camera, so I know this works. HTH.

  • Does "RAW files from Canon digital cameras cannot be downloaded" MATTER??

Need to buy new camera to use with my G5 and iPHoto 5. I desire (1) affordability, (2) more optical zoom than what I've had in past (want to move from 4x to 6x), and (3) compatible with my G5.
I've had 2 canon powershost (my last, the 570, but a kid dropped it). Easy to use. So maybe simliar, or something nicer.
Been studying the Canon web site about their various cameras. For the above reasons I like thePowerShot SX100 IS, about $240. 6x optical zoom.
HOWEVER, in the MAC OSX compatibility section at Canon it has this quote:
    * Mac OS X 10.1 and newer come with Image Capture drivers that support most of Canon's digital cameras with USB interfaces. When a compatible camera is connected to a compatible Mac computer running OS X 10.1 and newer, the computer detects the camera and automatically launches Image Capture. This Apple program allows JPEG images in the camera to be downloaded to the Macintosh. NOTE: RAW files from Canon digital cameras cannot be downloaded in OS X via Image Capture. We suggest the use of File Viewer Utility or an external card reader. Also, movie files shot with PowerShot cameras cannot be downloaded in OS X via Image Capture or iPhoto. We suggest the use of ImageBrowser or an external card reader.
Additionally, Image Capture can access JPEG images directly from a CompactFlash card using an OS X-compatible card reader or using a PC Card Adapter in the PC Card slot of an Apple PowerBook.**
This line caught me confused: *RAW files from Canon digital cameras cannot be downloaded*
In the past, I just plugged in the Canon Camera, and iPhoto 5 opened, and I h appily downloaded the picts and off and away I was.
Will this still happen??? And if I'm not getting the "RAW" picts (whatever that is), but just the JPEGS I'm used to, am I not getting "all" the picts, or the best that my camera could be given me for eventually printing?
    Am I worrying about nothing?
Finally, any camera suggestions? Under $300 , super picts, 5-10x zoom, and friendly with my Mac
    Thanks
    JON

You know, because you ask the question, I'll guess that it won't really matter to you...
Every camera shoots RAW - that's the total information that the sensor on the camera sees, but mid- and lower end cameras process this RAW data into an easy to use format such as jpegs.
Many (but not all) Pros demand that the camera provide all the data to the computer, so that the photographer can process the images him/her self. For most casual and family users this is not an issue. For the serious hobbyist and the Pro it might well be.
For more on Raw have a look at this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rawimageformat
Btw, later versions of iPhoto do work with Some Raw formats.
    As to cameras:
I used a Canon S2 IS for a couple of years and found it really good. There's and S3 and an S5 now too. Currently I'm using a Panasonic FZ8. I really like it.

  • Mount Digital Camera like a Hard Drive-HELP TONIGHT PLEASE

I need to figure out how to make my digital camera mount on my desktop like a hard drive. I need to put Images ONTO my memory card, but when I hook up my (Kodak) camera, it always opens in either Image Capture or iPhoto, and only allows me to download images ONTO my computer. I need to put pictures ONTO my memory card. Please help!!!

Digital Camera  Disks can be a problem getting mounted and/or accessed on a Mac. Windows has a proprietary system for integrating camera  disks but that system is not shared with Apple.
Some cameras have a menu setup setting for disk usage. You might explore your camera's menu and look for a setting to tell it to "act like a data disk". Use the "Data Disk" option to bypass Microsoft's sabotage of your camera
You can name your camera 's disk so the "NO_NAME" part will be something like "Camera". To do this, select the camera  disk and press (at the same time) command key (AKA applekey) and the i key, which brings up the infowindow. You can rename your camera  disk there.
Another cool trick is to assign your camera  a custom icon, I have mine set as a camera  which makes it easy to find on the Desktop.
I suggest ignoring applications in both Mac and XP and copying your pictures directly in Finder. When it mounts the camera  disk, navigate to the pictures folder and drag it to your desktop and the entire folder will be copied. You can then open the folder in whatever application you want, I use GraphicConverter.

  • Images imported from a digital camera were viewable and editable at first but later disappeared! They cannot be re-imported from either the camera or the iCloud as iPhoto indicates that they already exist, but cannot locate them. Please help!

On holiday I have been uploading my photos to iphoto on my macbook pro every few days, the latest batch appeared and I was able to edit them, flag, merge events etc. However, later that day when I went back to the images they could not be found in my library. They had been removed from 'latest import', however were viewable on the icloud photo stream. I have attempted to re-import the images from both the digital camera and my photostream but iphoto indicates that the images had already been imported and would not import them again. I was able to locate the master images using finder, but Iphoto tells me that these files are unreadable (they are .jpg) when I try to re-add them this way. I have also tried to 'unhide' all images in case I had accidentally hidden them but this didn't work either.
    Any other suggestions?

a best practice to is to never have any computer program (including iPhoto) delete the photos from the card but to import the photos and keep them and then after at least one successful backup cycle has completed and then reformat the card --  I use three very large (32 GB) cards in rotation so I do not reformat for typically a year or more giving me one more long term backup of my photos
Back up your iPhoto library, Depress and hold the option (alt) and command keys and launch iPhoto - rebuild your iPhoto library database

  • Aperture 3.4.4, Digital camera raw 4.0.5 cannot be installed

On my late 2007 Imac I run OSX 10.8.3 and Aperture 3.4.4. While installing Digital Camera Raw 4.05 I get the message Aperture version 3.4 or later, or iPhoto version 9.4 or later, is required to install this update after which the installation aborts.
I still had iPhoto 7.1.5 on my machine which I haven't used since 2008 which I decided to delete, but that did not help.
IMO the install programm should just work as it says you need either the correct Aperture OR iPhoto version, not both .
But anyway, what can I do to enable the update to work without doing a clean install of ML or buying a product I never use? Is there still some kind of iPhoto residu?
BTW, the last version of DCR I tried to install was 4.0.2. This had the same issue, but I let go of that one. I don't know what my current version is.
    Kind regards,
    Martin

I have all my Photo applications including Aperture in a separate map
The subfolder explains it. That is a problem in Lion and Mt. Lion. These operating systems rely on the applications being installed directly in the Applications folder.
However, you could  group your applications by creating folders in the Launchpad. Simply dragging the applications in the Lauchpad on top of each other will create subfolders there and you can see them all grouped there and launch them after double clicking the folder. That is Lion's and Mt. Lion's way to launch applications from folders.
These screenshots show my folders for Photography apps and Music applications. Double clicking reveals the folder contents for launching.
