I cannot move tunes from ipod to computer

I had to re-install the operating system for my Power Mac G4. When I "enable disk" in the summary page for my ipod, I am unable to move tunes back to my computer. Does anyone know how to do this?

If you have any iTunes Music Store purchases the transfer of purchased content from the iPod to authorised computers was introduced with iTunes 7. A paragraph on it has been added to this article: Transfer iTunes Store purchases using iPod
The transfer of content from other sources such as songs imported from CD is designed by default to be one way from iTunes to iPod. However there are a number of third party utilities that you can use to retrieve music files and playlists from your iPod. I use Senuti but have a look at the web pages and documentation for the others too, you'll find that they have varying degrees of functionality and some will transfer movies, videos, photos and games as well. This is just a small selection of what's available, you can also read reviews of some of them here: Wired News - Rescue Your Stranded Tunes
Senuti Mac Only
PodView Mac Only
PodWorks Mac Only
iPodDisk PPC Mac Only (experimental version available for Intel Macs)
iPodRip Mac & Windows
YamiPod Mac & Windows
Music Rescue Mac & Windows
iPodCopy Mac & Windows
There's also a manual method of copying songs from your iPod to a Mac or PC. The procedure is a bit involved and won't recover playlists but if you're interested it's available at this link: Two-way Street: Moving Music Off the iPod

  • Need to move songs from ipod to computer

I had an incident and my computer needed to be reformatted. So I lost all my songs. Is there a way to move all the songs from my ipod to my computer?

For iTunes version 7 or later, then you can transfer purchased iTunes store music from the iPod to an authorized computer by using the "file/transfer purchases from iPod" menu. Note that the maximum of 5 authorized computers applies here.
Find out how to do that here.
How to copy iTunes purchases from an iPod to a computer.
For all other non purchased content (your own CDs etc) try this method which works on some Windows PCs.
Enable your iPod for disk use.
    See: iPod Disk Use.
Open iTunes and select edit/preferences/advanced/general. Put a check mark in the box marked "copy files to iTunes music folder when adding to library" and also "keep iTunes music folder organized", then click 'ok'.
Connect the iPod whilst holding down the shift/ctrl keys to prevent any auto sync, and if you see the dialogue window asking if you want to sync to this itunes library, click 'no'.
Then go to file/add folder, open 'my computer', select your iPod and click 'ok'.
The music files should transfer to your iTunes.
If this doesn't work (and it may not because officially it's not supposed to), check out the instructions/suggestions here.
Music from iPod to computer (using option 2). This a manual method using "hidden folders" and although it works, it is a little more involved than other methods.
Much easier ways are to use one of the many 3rd party programs that copy music from the iPod to the computer.
One of the most recommended is Yamipod. This is a free program that transfers music from iPod back to the computer. However, it does not transfer playcounts/ratings etc.
Another free program is Pod Player.
    SharePod is also freeware.
If you want to recover just the structure of playlists from the iPod (and not the actual song files themselves), there's iRepo for Windows. which I understand has this feature along with all the standard features for these programs.
iPodRip also has the feature enabling you to reconstruct playlists.
There is also CopyTrans. This does preserve ratings/playcounts etc if those are important to you but this program is not free. It also supports video transfer.

  • Move music from Ipod to computer

How do you move the music from your Ipod to a computer? When syncing it is always from the computer to the Ipod. My music is stuck in my Ipod and I would like to move it to my new computer.  The old files were wiped out when I transfered files from my old computer to the new one. Now everything is stuck in the Ipod. Help!

  • Trying to move photos from ipod to computer

Can anyone help me? I'm trying to move photos from my ipod to my computer. I had to have my hard drive replaced last week. I was able to get my songs back onto my computer but I'm trying to figure out how to move my photos. Anyone know?
    Thanks--
    Susan

Susan, had you checked "Include Originals" in the iPod preferences via iTunes?
If not, you'll only have very small thumbnails on your iPod and there is no straightforward way to recover these. (You won't be satisfied with their quality anyway as they are really small, downscaled versions.)
Don't you have any other backup (CD/DVD, .Mac, external harddrive)?
If you did opt to include the original pictures on the iPod you'll stilll have to enable "Disc use" of you iPod to access the iPod's content via the Finder.
    Alexander.

  • Computer back up failed... how do I get my tunes from iPod to computer?

STUPID BEST BUY.... what a TERRIBLE place.
Long story short, my computer died thanks to these idiots and they replaced the motherboard. After ASSURING me they would NOT re-format the hard drive, they did anyway. I did do a back up before sending the computer in, but now I can't get my iTunes from my iPod back onto the computer. iTunes won't (or can't) see the songs in my backup, and it won't let me restore the backup off my external hard drive back into iTunes. (I had to re-download iTunes once I got my computer back.)
So my question is, is there anyway to load the songs off my iPod back into iTunes? I REALLY don't want to go back through 300 cd's and re-rip the songs... and most of the cd's I got rid of anyway!

  • Cannot import photos from iPod to Computer

I recently bought a 30 GB iPod, I have about 100 pictures from vacation on my iPod. I have been trying to import the pictures to my computer, but after getting one picture onto iPhoto it stops. What do I do to get all the pictures on my computer so I can edit and print them? Thank you for your time.

If your iPod's photos aren't set to "Full Resolution" mode, I don't believe iPhoto will do the job. Is your iPod in disk mode? If not, put it in disk mode. Then, double click on your iPod icon on your desktop. Open the Photos folder. Is there a "Full Resolution" folder? If not, post back; this may be a bit of a challenge.
