I cannot open a favorite in a new tab.

When I choose a favorite, right click open and choose "open in new tab" nothing happens.
I also have the problem of when I choose the new tab +, it opens to a yahoo search page. This has just started too. I can not find anywhere to disable that feature.

There are at least 4 places you could try with the bookmark: do any of them work normally?
* Bookmarks menu on the orange Firefox button or classic menu bar
* Bookmarks Toolbar (if the bookmark is there)
* Bookmarks Sidebar (Ctrl+b to open/close)
* Library dialog (Ctrl+Shift+b to open/close)
Regarding the new tab, unless an add-on is overriding the internal setting, you may be able to fix it in the about:config preferences editor.
(1) In a new tab, type or paste about:config in the address bar and press Enter. Click the button promising to be careful.
(2) In the filter box, type or paste newtab and pause while the list is filtered
(3) Double-click the browser.newtab.url preference and enter the desired value:
(i) Page thumbnails (default)
about:newtab
(ii) Blank tab
about:blank
(iii) Built-in Firefox home page
about:home
(iv) Any other page
full URL to the page
Press Ctrl+t to open a new tab and verify that it worked. Fixed?
If you find that doesn't stick between Firefox restarts, there are a couple other things to check.

• Why I cannot open a link in a new tab, since I upgraded firefox to the latest version ?

I can't open a google search option in a new tab, since I upgraded Firefox to version 33.0. I also cannot downgrade firefox, to solve this problem.

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that turns off some settings, disables most add-ons (extensions and themes). See the Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode article for more information.
If Open Link in new tab works in Safe mode, one of the extensions/add-ons (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) was causing the problem. Then let us know what extension or plugin are you using that causes this problem.
You can also try the Reset Firefox Feature. The Reset Firefox feature can fix many issues by restoring Firefox to its factory default state while saving your bookmarks, history, passwords, cookies, and other essential information.
See the Reset Firefox – easily fix most problems article for more information.
To Reset Firefox:
# Open the Troubleshooting Information page using one of these methods:
#*Click the menu button , click help and select Troubleshooting Information. A new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
#*If you're unable to access the Help menu, type about:support in your address bar to bring up the Troubleshooting Information page.
#At the top right corner of the page, you should see a button that says "Reset Firefox" that looks like this: . Click on it.
#Firefox will close and reset. After it is done, Firefox will show a window with the information that is imported.
#Click Finish and Firefox will reopen.

• Cannot open Yahoo searches in a new tab

When I do a Yahoo search and attempt to open a search result in a new tab, I get "You have chosen to open and application/octet-stream" and it opens an "Untitled" tab.
I can avoid this error by simply clicking on the search result in the same window.
This has just started in the past two days and is generally Yahoo specific. I don't have this problem with Google, but I don't normally use Google.
Similar Mozilla error have been reported in the past, but not exactly like this error.
No recent or significant changes in my OS or PC configuration

In my case it was the greasemonkey addon. Once i've desable it, everything went right. Thanks for that hint!

• Cannot open a URL in a new tab using a bookmarks submenu

I have just been upgraded to v 35.0. Before the upgrade, I could navigate from my bookmarks menu to a sub-menu, and hover over a URL. A right click brought up a context menu that allowed me to Open, Open in a New Tab, Open in a New Window, etc.
After the update, the only options available are Open. The rest of the sub-menu is grayed out. Is the only option now to open a new tab manually and then navigate thru sub-menus to open a site?
Thanks.

• When I open a website in a new tab (like a forum) it will start on the last page and at the bottom. So I have to scroll up. Is there a setting for this?

I open my favorite forums website. When I open a thread in a new tab the window starts at the bottom. I have to scroll up to see the top of the thread.

Does it do it if you run Firefox in Safe Mode? If it functions properly in that configuration, then one of your add-ons is the culprit.

• Why does rightclick+t on a link open the link in a new tab, yet rightclick+t on a bookmark on the toolbar grays it out?

This happens to be more of an issue using a trackpad. Then you rightclick on a link and then hit "t" it opens the link in a new tab. when you do the same command on on a bookmark on your bookmark toolbar, it grays the bookmark out. none of the settings have been changed on it. the way to fix it, i discovered is to right click on the bookmark and hit "p" no idea why, but this solved it. I can't find any of these command online, partly i don't know how to correctly search the rightclick command, but partly, it would only probably list the commands that actually show up as stuff to click with your mouse.
I would also like to know why for two different locations that both open a link in a new tab, why the mapped shortcuts are different. for a link, it is rightclick+t, for a bookmark it is rightclick+w. I mean, make it the same commands, it makes much more sense that way.

Because the "T" in "Open Link in New <u>T</u>ab" is underscored in the link context menu (right-click menu)
You are on Windows 7 and by default Microsoft hid that useful information by default in all of their menus.
See item #9 on my page Windows 7 Home Premium
<b>Restore missing underscored letters in menus</b> (turned off by default in Windows 7)
<br>Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Ease of Access Center (<b>WinKey+U</b>) → <i>Make the keyboard easier to use</i>
<br>&nbsp; [x] Turn on Toggle keys
<br>&nbsp; [x] Underline keyboard shortcuts and access keys
<br>&nbsp; [&nbsp; ] Prevent windows from being automatically arranged when moved to the edge of the screen.
<p>Toggle keys appears both under mouse and under keyboard in Ease of use / Accessibility options.
<br>Though I would like to activate the last option, preventing windows from being automatically arranged
would also deactivate my favorite Windows 7 added WinKey+&lt;arrowkey&gt; keyboard shortcuts to resize window to left/normal/right side, or to maximize/norm/minimize window.&nbsp; On a dual/extended monitors this would be left/norm/right on each monitor so left/right arrow actually have six positions passing between monitors.

• ADF EBS Integration - How to open the ADF page in new tab or window

Hi,
We are building ADF custom applications and want to integrate them with EBS R12 (12.1.3) through Responsibilities and Menus.
We have achieved session sharing and launching the Custom ADF app from EBS menu. The problem is, the Custom ADF page opens in the same page.
Is there anyway to open the ADF application in new tab or window while launching from EBS Menu ?
Highly appreciate your help on this.
Thanks,

• Opening a webpage in a new TAB in OBIEE 11G

I am working on Action Links in OBIEE11g where I am supposed to open a webpage in a new TAB from a report using Action Links. I am able to open the link in a new window but not in new tab. Is there any solution for this? Any help would really be appreciated!

CSS will not help you at all (style sheet can make your link nice and colorful, but will not any impact on what the link does).
JS is the same, it will not help you because tab/windows is subject to the user settings (JS works into the webpage, but has no control, luckily for all of us, on the browser itself).
Srini VEERAVALLI gave you the answer, the same (just different place) is valid for FF or Chrome.

• When I click a link, it changes to the new page instead of opening the link in a new tab.

I've gone to the options section several times and the right settings are in place but it still doesn't open in a new tab. I've never had this problem before. Should I change back to 3.6 or 4 beta? This problem occurs on the newest update. I believe it's 4.0.1 or something like that...I just loaded it yesterday. How can I fix this? Thank you.

It's normal for links to open in the same tab as you browse if you left-click. You can Ctrl+click or middle click to open a link in a new tab. Are either of those broken?
Some sites let you use a regular left click to open a link in a new tab (example: Google search settings), and some add-ons may change link behavior. Can you check whether one of your add-ons has been disabled?
Tools > Add-ons > Extensions
Also, if you use the Ask toolbar, try disabling it and see whether that makes any difference.

• How to Open External Links in a New Tab

I want links in web pages to open in the current tab so I have browser.link.open_newwindow=1. But how do I make links from extenal applications open in a new tab?

Try setting the following to 3, not really sure if preference was actually removed or just won't accept 2, the intent was that the two variables be the same (I think)
browser.link.open_external -- Where to open links sent to the browser from an external application
* 2 (default in SeaMonkey): Opens external links in a new window
* 3 (default in Firefox): Opens external links in a new tab in the most recent window
* 1 (or anything else): Opens external links in current window
Note: In Firefox 2 and above, via “Tools → Options → Tabs → New pages should be opened in:” (same as browser.link. open_newwindow)
Pref removed from Firefox 3.5

Sometimes when I open a link in a new tab firefox opens it properly but alerts me with "Firefox doesn't know how to open this address, because the protocol (bar) isn't associated with any program."

* Make sure that you are using the "Remember History" setting as described in this article -> Options window - Privacy panel
-> Start Firefox in -> Safe Mode to check if your add-ons/extensions are causing the problems.
* Also see this article -> Troubleshooting extensions and themes

I upgraded to v3.6.22 today and have lost the ability to ctrl-click a link to open the link in a new tab; how do I get this back?

Strangely enough, putting my laptop into Hibernate mode solved the problem. It didn't even take a reboot.

• How do I make middle click open a link in a new tab?

Previously, when I clicked a link using the wheel click on my mouse, it opened the link in a new tab. I recently updated firefox, and now if I middle click (wheel click) on a link in Firefox, nothing happens. I just want this feature back. I tried looking in my mouse settings but could not find a relevant setting there. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I should add: I have also lost the ability to middle click on a tab to close it.

• I want to open bookmarked pages in a new tab, like it used to, rather than having it replace the current page in the current tab. Ho do I do this?

In earlier verisions of Firefox, when I opened bookmarked pages, they opened in a new tab. Now, in version 6.0.1, when I open a bookmark, it opens in the current tab and replaces the page I am reading. I want the bookmarks to open in a new tab just like links open in a new tab. How do I do that?

Middle-click the bookmark with the mouse scroll wheel to open the link in a new tab.

• "When I open a link in a new tab, switch.." Doesnt work correctly

I'm using Firefox 28.0 (Waterfox build)
I've verified that:
- browser.tabs.loadInBackground: False
- browser.tabs.loadDivertedInBackground: True
- "When I open a link in a new tab, switch to it immediately" is enabled in the UI.
It seems only some websites actually switch to the new tab. Also, sometimes, this feature will stop working all together; requiring me to toggle the Firefox UI setting and/or restart firefox.

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem.
*Switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window
