I cannot open camera raw in photoshop on my mac computer. I have the most recent updates and was wondering what I should do next.

I have downloaded the most recent updates on my computer to Photoshop and to Bridge and I am still unable to open images in camera raw to edit them. When I try to open the "Camera Raw Preferences" in Bridge, nothing happens. Could this be a problem with my computer and not the software? Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Sorry, I cannot take your word for your "the most recent updates". Very often users think they have the latest and greatest and it turns out they are wrong.
Please specify EXACT version numbers.
Also, more info is needed.

There are two different things here, an OS update and a software update.
Mac OS X 10.5 is the version of OS while the .8 at the end is the software update (release patches)
The most current software update for Mac OS X 10.5 is 10.5.8
No more software updates available. You would need to upgrade the OS, which would be to Mac OS X 10.6
Your new iPhone 5 would require iTunes 10.6 which is only available for OS X version 10.6.8 or later.
Your would therefore need to upgrade your Macbook to this version of OS.
It maybe brought on DVD via Apple directly (Contact Apple ) or using any good online vendor like Amazon.

You cannot "update" from what you have to any of the applications you mention. It will have to be a straight purchase or subscription at full price.
Photoshop is a professional level application that makes no apologies for its very long and steep learning curve.
Lightroom is all about volume, and very light editing.

I sold all my film based stuff, except a Nikon F3 and a handful of lenses and a Paterson developing tank.
The Nikon suspiciously smells like foam mirror damping strips chemically decaying.
I sold my enlarger over the internet. The word "enlarger" caused me to be on SpamCops blacklist for a while.
I'm in this since the seventies, and I think you'll be as amazed as I was at the possibilities and control you have. And no more bags with $300 worth of film that's consumed in one shoot.

Cannot Open Camera Raw images in CS2

Hi
I am running CS2 and PSE 8,but cannot open Raw images in CS2
My camera is an Eos 5 MKII
Camera Raw in PSE is 5.5.
I would like to open the Raw files into CS2.
Any Help would be appreciated.
I am using the latest firmware from Canon.

Raw files are unique to each camera model and manufacturer. There is a 'model' field and 'manufacturer' field whose values are checked as any RAW format file is opened and if the program opening that file does not have the codes for processing that specific camera's RAW file, most programs will throw a error message and not precess that file.
For Adobe image editing programs you need to have the an ACR plugin version that provides the code for your camera model.
Camera Raw plug-in | Supported cameras list the various cameras supported by Adobe photo editing programs and the version of the earlies ACR plug-in that supports that camera.
For the Canon Eos 5D MKII you will need ACR plug-in version 5.2 or better.
Camera Raw-compatible Adobe applications list the program versions of Adobe image editing programs, the ACR plug-in version shipped with the program and the latest ACR plug-in version that that program can use.
The last ACR plug-in version for CS2 is 3.7, so you can not directly open the CR2 or RAW image from this camera. You could upgrade to PhotoShop CS5, the most current version of PhotoShop, or download a copy the free Adobe DNG, Digital NeGative, converter and convert your CR2 files to the Adobe DNG format and then open the DNG file with your copy PhotoShop CS2. You could also open the file with Canon image editing software and transfer the image as Tiff to your copy of CS2.

You may be able to default to DOC, but have not tried same.

Opening since update to Firefox 6, always get the message that I don't have the most recent version - have removed and reinstalled, but still persists.

I recently updated my Firefox to version 6.0. When it re-opened after installation there was a message that I didn't have the most recent version. I ran the update set-up again but got the same message. I uninstalled Firefox and reinstalled it from a fresh download but it's still happening.
I've restarted the computer several times. It doesn't seem to have helped. Any ideas?

Photoshop Elements cannot open Camera RAW from Canon EOS 7D Mark ii

I just bought Canon EOS 7D mark ii camera. I have Photoshop Elements 12. The program is unable to open RAW images.The message is "the file appears to be from a camera model which is not supported by installed version of camera Raw".
I downloaded 8.7.1 plugin but that is also not able to open the image.

You need Adobe camera raw version 8.7 Unfortunately your software pre-dates the camera. ACR 8.7 is only compatible with PSE13. But it is possible to download and install the free DNG converter to convert your raw files to the Adobe universal Raw format and the DNG files will open in PSE12 (keep your CR2's as backups and for use in the camera manufactures software)

Camera Raw in Photoshop, sudenly not being able to parse the file...

Suddenly when opening a group of RAW files from Bridge, after several successful adjustments on similar files, CR/PS will crash & freeze the system. Have to use Task manager to reboot. Have had no such probems in years of similar activities, the RAW files from long-supported cameras (.NEF and .RAW images). Have tried deleting the cache, even unistalled and reinstalled PS, to no more then very temporary success (which may have been no more thatn the intermittent iccurrence that had been happening originally). Have the latest editions updated of PS5, lots of memory, Win 7, 64-bit.
Any ideas or suggestions?

My mac is telling me i have no software updates available, but i do! i don't have the most recent ios software and i cannot update itunes or sync my recently updated iphone without it. help!

i am currently on the osx 5.8 operating system.
