I cannot open Classic on my iMac OS X 10.3.9

I bought a learning program for my daughter but need to open Classic in order to install it on my computer. I found the Classic folder in my system folders but it is empty. Can you help please. I have searched on here for hours but can't find my answer. Thanks.
Ashley

Hi Ashley,
As I understand it, this is the first time you need Classic. If so, you need to install it from your original disks (these should be gray disks, not black ones). I don't have the gray disks with 10.3 on them, but I looked at some with 10.4 -- probably yours will be similar.
I inserted the first disk, and opened "Read Before You Install". There is a section "Installing Mac OS 9" that gives instructions for installing the necessary software.
Do not reinstall OS X. It is a good idea to run Disk Utility, select your disk, and choose "Repair disk permissions" before and after any install. You may also want to run "software update" after installing Classic.
If you are not sure whether Classic is installed, open your disk and look at the icons. The folder named "System" is OS X. If Classic is installed, there is another folder named "System Folder" with an icon with "9" on it. That contains the software Classic needs.

  • I cannot open iBooks on my iMac.

When I try to open iBooks on my iMac I get the following message.  I have never been able to open iBooks from day one.  Since I haven't had a need to use it on  my iMac I just let it go, but now I would like to start using it.  What might be wrong?
The last time you opened iBooks, it unexpectedly quit while reopening windows. Do you want to try to reopen its windows again?
If you choose not to reopen windows, you may have to open and position the windows yourself.

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
For this step, the title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
In the top right corner of the Console window, there's a search box labeled Filter. Initially the words "String Matching" are shown in that box. Enter the name of the crashed application or process. For example, if Safari crashed, you would enter "Safari" (without the quotes.)
Each message in the log begins with the date and time when it was entered. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.
☞ The log contains a vast amount of information, almost all of which is irrelevant to solving any particular problem. When posting a log extract, be selective. A few dozen lines are almost always more than enough.
Please don't indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Please don't post screenshots of log messages—post the text.
☞ Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
    In the Console window, select
DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION ▹ User Diagnostic Reports
(not Diagnostic and Usage Messages) from the log list on the left. There is a disclosure triangle to the left of the list item. If the triangle is pointing to the right, click it so that it points down. You'll see a list of crash reports. The name of each report starts with the name of the process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report related to the process in question. The contents of the report will appear on the right. Use copy and paste to post the entire contents—the text, not a screenshot.
I know the report is long, maybe several hundred lines. Please post all of it anyway.
If you don't see any reports listed, but you know there was a crash, you may have chosen Diagnostic and Usage Messages from the log list. Choose DIAGNOSTIC AND USAGE INFORMATION instead.
In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.)
Please don’t post other kinds of diagnostic report—they're very long and rarely helpful.

  • Cannot open Pages document on iMac created on iPad

I createdc a document using Pages 09 on my iPad 3 in December 2012 and saved it to iCloud. Since then I've got an Imac and installed Pages 09 on that computer. Now, when I try to open that document, created on my iPad, on the iMac it won't open, nor will it open on the iPad anymore. I get an error message saying '...couldn't open this document...'. Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong and how to rectify this please? I've got the latest iOS on the iPad and running fully updated Mountain Lion on the iMac. Thanks very much for any help.

The document is probably corrupt. I wouldn't trust that the uploading to iCloud always is complete. I would always have a copy on the iPad or the Mac. You never know when connection is slow or going down and if you are uploading at that time you are bound to get problems.

  • Adobe Reader 10.1.8 cannot open pdfs on latest iMac and MacOS

Hello, I have a new iMac that I got last spring (Feb. 2013) and it came with the latest Adobe Reader, 10.1.8. (I just recently updated my mac OS to Maverick.) Since starting to use this new computer I've had huge problems opening pdfs. that I download from reliable websites via Adobe Reader. The warning I get is that the pdf file is not a supported file type (or it has been damaged), which I don't believe because I am able to open them on my older iMac. I am also able to open pdfs. received via email. This problem is terribly annoying and I'd be grateful for help in solving it. Many thanks.

    Mac HD/Library/Internet Plugins
Trash the AdobePDFViewer.plugin and AdobePDFViewerNPAPI.plugin files.
    Empty the trash.
Dowenload the latest Reader (XI -11.0.4) here: http://get.adobe.com/reader/enterprise/
Install it to replace Reader X.
PDFs downloaded with Safari will no longer be damaged.
Unfortunately the ones that say they are... are, and you should trash them too.

  • Cannot open older files (OS9) in  iMac

My older Mac is a G3 blue and white with OS9. The monitor broke. I have now a iMac since a while.
My ancient files are in the iMac 2007 but I cannot open the psd or illustrator files.
I know there was Rosetta, is it still available ?
    Thank you very much.
    Alain Antoine

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-6271 explains your options for Rosetta.
Your iMac thankfully is compatible with Rosetta, but not with Classic.   What that means is entirely new versions of your Illustrator and PSD applications.   http://www.roaringapps.com/ may list versions of those applications that are compatible with Mac OS X 10.4 which you can install on the Blue and White G3.   But you will need to update the firmware on the G3, get a new PRAM battery if it hasn't been updated in the last 4 years, and probably once you have imported the data into a new compatible version with Mac OS X, get a Parallel ATA Firewire case from http://www.macsales.com/ to take your internal drive of the Blue and White G3, and connect it to your iMac.  Here's how to update the firmware:

I recently loaded OSX mavericks on my Imac. I now find I cannot open any Adobe products from CS5. The error message reads " to open Adobe illustrator CS5.app, you need to install a JAva SE 6 runtime. Would you like to check and install one? I try to install but get the error" download error". As far as i know I'm using Adobe Java 7. None of my CS5 suite works anymore............and i really dont want to upgrade to a monthly cloud service fee as i hate this policy with a passion.

This goes for Dreamweaver CC on Mavericks!!!!! THANK YOU!
I couldn't launch Dreamweaver CC. An error told me to install "java se 6 runtime". But when I clicked  OK I got another error telling me there is a network problem! I found this forum post on CS6 products, so I tried the download link, installed java 6 and presto, it worked! Thanks!

  • I currently use a iMac OS X 10.6.8 and I cannot open iPhoto. Every time I click on iPhoto the coloured wheel comes up and lets me go no further, leaving me with no other option but to force quit the application. HELP!!

i currently use a iMac OS X 10.6.8 and I cannot open iPhoto. Every time I click on iPhoto the coloured wheel comes up and lets me go no further, leaving me with no other option but to force quit the application.
it is showing all my existing photos but will not let me click on any of them, nor will it allow me to import any new photos into iPhoto.
I am really worried that I cannot access all of my photos and even more worried as I need to back them up!!
    HELP!!

    Try repair the Library:
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Repair Database. If that doesn't help, then try again, this time using Rebuild Database.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. (In early versions of Library Manager it's the File -> Rebuild command. In later versions it's under the Library menu.)
This will create an entirely new library. It will then copy (or try to) your photos and all the associated metadata and versions to this new Library, and arrange it as close as it can to what you had in the damaged Library. It does this based on information it finds in the iPhoto sharing mechanism - but that means that things not shared won't be there, so no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your events, albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.
    Regards
    TD
