  • I cannot open Google in Firefox. Why not??? This is since I "refreshed" Firefox.

Ever since I refreshed Firefox, I cannot open Google which means I cannot access my Gmail account. This is very aggravating. Kindly help me to fix this problem I have tried the usual restart solution and it didn't solve anything.

As you may have noticed, the Refresh/Reset feature copies your settings (profile) folder to the desktop into a folder named "Old Firefox Data".
If Firefox was running reasonably problem-free before the Refresh, and you haven't deleted the Old Firefox Data folder from your desktop, there is a way to use the contents of that folder to revert the refresh. You might want to brew a fresh cup...
Check inside "Old Firefox Data" folder for a folder with a semi-randomized name. If there's only one, that probably has your old settings and add-ons. If there's more than one, you'll want to work with the one that was updated most recently.
Once you have identified the profile folder you want to restore, here is my suggested "old profile resurrection procedure":
    '''Overview'''
    These are the steps:
    # Create a new Firefox profile
    # Remove everything from that new profile folder
    # Copy in everything from the old profile folder
'''Create a new Firefox profile (Windows)'''
Exit Firefox and start up in the Profile Manager by pasting the following into the Start menu search box, or the Start > Run dialog, and pressing Enter:
    firefox.exe -P
''Note: Any time you want to switch profiles, exit Firefox and return to this dialog.''
Click the Create Profile button, assign a name like OldSettings, and skip the option to change the folder location. Then select that new profile in the dialog and start Firefox.
'''Open the New Profile folder in Windows Explorer'''
Firefox in the new profile should look like a factory fresh installation. Open the Troubleshooting Information page using either:
    * "3-bar" menu button > "?" button > Troubleshooting Information
    * Help menu > Troubleshooting Information
    * type or paste about:support in the address bar and press Enter
In the first table, click the "Show Folder" button. Firefox will launch your brand new profile folder in Windows Explorer.
Leaving that folder open, switch back to Firefox, and Exit. When Firefox closes, the profile folder should be front and center, or you can activate it using the Task bar.
'''Copy Old Data in Place of New'''
In that new profile folder, select all the contents and delete.
Leaving that window open, open or switch over to your Old Firefox Data folder. Drill down into your old profile folder. At this level you should see a folder named bookmarkbackups among other things.
Select everything (Ctrl+a) and Copy (either right-click > Copy or Ctrl+c).
Switch to the empty new profile folder in other window and Paste (either right-click > Paste or Ctrl+v). This may take a minute since some of the files are large.
    '''Start Firefox'''
Firefox should start up in that new profile with the resurrected old profile data. Success?

  • Cannot open google or mozilla sites in firefox ok in other browsers.

I am running Firefox 36 which runs normally except that I cannot open certain websites a few eg.s below:
any mozilla sites, cannot open extention site also
    no Google sites
which is very fustrating. The above websites work in IE, Chrome & Opera. I have cleared cache and cookies, reloaded in safe mode, totally
uninstalled firefox and cleaned out any reference to Firefox or Mozilla in my registry and after reinstalling no change. I have even downgraded
to version 34 to no avail. I am using Kaspersky anti virus which I have tried closing down and I cannot see any problems with Windows firewall.
After looking on your webiste I also tried disabling IPv6 & changing DNS Prefetching (about:config).f
This problem first occured approx 5 days ago I am at a loss as to why this is happening, please can you advise.

At this time, I don't have any good ideas, but please provide a bit more information so I or others can help further:
    # when you type in the url and press enter, in the bottom left of the browser window, it will have some status notification, it maybe "looking up..." "connecting..." "waiting for response...", "transferring data...", what was the status you get when trying to reach those websites?
    # when you say "can't open", what error page shows up?
    # if you can't open http://www.google.com/ can you open http://74.125.224.72 ? (this is the ip address of google.com, using this directly should bypass DNS issues).

  • Web Browsers cannot open Google

Hey everyone, first and formost, thanks for taking the time to look at my posting.
    I'll keep it simple:
o For two days now I cannot open www.google.com
o I can open any other variation, such as www.google.de or www.google.com.hk
o I can open Google via it's IP address of 74.125.224.72
o In a browser I get the "You are not connected to the Internet" page (Safari), or "Server Not Found" (Firefox)
    o If I try to ping www.google.com I get:
    Ping has started…
ping: cannot resolve www.google.com: Unknown host
o If I try to tracerout:
    Traceroute has started…
    traceroute: unknown host www.google.com
o I can access www.google.com on other devices on the same network (iPhone 4s, iPad 2)
    Help!

    Try using OpenDNS servers.
    System Preferences>Network>Advanced>DNS
In the left side column click the + and add the following:
    208.67.222.222
    208.67.220.220
    Click OK, then click Apply.

  • I cannot open Google from my MacBook Pro

There are 9 different versions of iPhoto and they run on 10 different versions of the Operating System. The tricks and tips for dealing with issues vary depending on the version of iPhoto and the version of the OS. So to get help you need to give as much information as you can. Include things like:
    - What version of iPhoto.
    - What version of the Operating System.
    - Details. As full a description of the problem as you can. For example, if you have a problem with exporting, then explain by describing how you are trying to export, and so on.
    - History: Is this going on long? Has anything been installed or deleted? - Are there error messages?
    - What steps have you tried already to solve the issue.
    - Anything unusual about your set up? Or how you use iPhoto?
Anything else you can think of that might help someone understand the problem you have.

  • Firefox cannot open google

Everytime i type in www.google.com I get this:
    The connection has timed out
The server at www.google.com is taking too long to respond.
I have a laptop which runs firefox and opens google just fine. I have cleared my cache and cookies and tried all the other suggestions on the forums with no luck. I even tried getting there through a proxy server but had no luck.
    HELP?!?

You have to delete your cache and cookies: http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Calendar/thread?tid=7151a96597e7c798&hl=en
I tried deleting various subsets of cookies and, in the end, deleted all cookies. After that, everything worked OK.

  • All of a sudden I cannot open Google Maps, what could be wrong?

Today  I went to open google maps the page would not load (nothing comes up, just a blank screen). This is happening for a few other websites and I can't figure out what could be wrong. If anyone knows how to fix this please let me know!
    Thank you

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Google normally routs the result link to their safe browsing testing service via an onmousedown event that modifies the link (href attribute) if you click it once.
You can check if this bookmarklet makes a difference:
    <pre><nowiki>javascript:(function(){var e=document.querySelectorAll('#search a[onmousedown]'),E,i;for(i=0;E=e[i];i++){E.removeAttribute('onmousedown')}})()</nowiki></pre>
Do a malware check with several malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

  • I cannot open google calendar with firefox, it is continuously saying cannot load page (I checked cookies, and they are enabled).

Every time I click on Google Calendar, it opens a new window but says it is having a problem loading the page. I checked the cookies to make sure they are enabled because apparently that is a common problem. I downloaded the newest version of Firefox available, but that also did not help. I would like to not have to use Internet Explorer just to look at my calendar :-)

This can happen if the Google cookie is malformed, delete the Google cookies and for good measure also clear the cache. For details on how to do that see [[deleting cookies]] and [[how to clear the cache]].

  • Cannot open Google  from any application on the IPad

    Sorry to bother.
Started to blog using the blogger format.  Set up Google+.  Now unable to open the site from my desktop, email, or blogger site.  The site appears to crash after 2-5 seconds and kicks me back to the desktop page.

I solved my problem.  It turns out the default in iTunes is NO Sync for books or podcasts.  Once I turned that on I had success.   That wording should be included in the explanation on how to transfer PDF files to the iPad.

  • When I try to open Google using Firefox I get a "Welcome to nginx" message

I use Firefox for most of my browsing but this morning when I try to open Google I see only a message saying "Welcome to nginx!". I tried updating Firefox to the latest version and also used my Malware bytes to scan everything but no virus was found. This does not affect other browsers and Firefox seems to work OK except I cannot open Google.
    Thanks for any advice.

Thanks cor-el, the solution at the second link,
