  • Cannot install iTunes in windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

My system is: Custom built AMD Phenom Quad-core processor 2.50GHz 16.0gb memory 64bit Windows 7 Ultimate OS
I have tried the newest version of iTunes and the one just prior, same problem with both. I have also tried all the detailed and sometimes complex uninstall, delete, repair and reinstall procedures listed in the forums here and on other sites, cleaning registry and cleaning cookies. Deleted all apple products with three different file cleaning programs. Deleted anything even remotely related to apple products and turning off any services related to apple. I have tried installing each file independantly in a variety of suggested order giving administrator privileges to all the files. I am the system administrator with full adnimistrator privileges.
    The installation response in every case is as follows;
An error occurred while attempting to create the directory: C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu
this is shown with two options Retry which gives the same result instantly or cancel which rolls back the installation entirely.
In one instance I was able to install the 64 bit version of a fresh installed OS on another hard drive on my system. But that system is for a test bed and I have no plans to use it on a regular basis.
I have spent roughly 35 hours on this and finally had to install another program to deal with my music files but I still would like to solve this problem. This appears to be a common problem based on all the questions and complaints that I have read lately both here and elsewhere. I am not sure why apple has not adequately addressed this, at least in the newest version of iTunes

  • I cannot open itunes in windows 7 - suggestions ?

I cannot open itunes in windows 7 -  I have removed it and re-installed it twice.

I found a post on here about deleting many files and reinstalling. I can't find the post now - but it worked perfectly!

  • Cannot install itunes on windows v8.1 64 bit

Cannot install iTunes on Windows v8.1 64 bit.

The old blue iTunes worked fine on my pc, then along came the new red iTunes, which initially refused to install from an auto-update notification, saying it didn't have permission to access one of its own folders (self access to all its other folders was ok).
I then tried a manual download and install as suggested by the auto-update failure dialogue and that was exactly the same - failed at the last hurdle and had to reset itself.
I then tried download and install from iTunes site and this installed without problem, but the application will not open, neither from the desktop icon with user or admin rights, nor from a direct open or run as admin from the iTunes folder .exe file.
I have tried a repair install and an aggressive uninstall to ensure any TSR components are purged followed by a clean install - no difference.
My other pc is no problem and iTunes installed and runs on there fine, so it must be a configuration problem on this pc only.
I disabled my antivirus and malware detection during the install and made an exception for iTunes, to no effect.
When selecting the app I get a blue circle for a few seconds then nothing, no dialogue or notification of problems.
    Any suggestions welcomed.

  • HT5318 cannot open itunes on windows 7 64 bit

I am no longer able to open iTunes on windows 7 64 bit.  Have tried "repair" option and remove and redownload.

I am trying to understand the exact sequence of events here:
Firstly the iTunes installer includes Quicktime and you should not have to install it separately.
You downloaded the 32 bit iTunes installer: iTunesSetup.exe.
Normally the correct version should be downloaded automatically so that shouldn't have happened.
When you tried to run it, did it warn you that you had the wrong version and stop without installing anything?
    Then you downloaded iTunes64Setup.exe
What happened when you tried to run that, did you get any error messages? If so give the full text.
What iTunes related programs do you actually have installed, if any?
Check in Programs on the Control Panel.
The following link on uninstalling iTunes lists the programs you need to look for.

i've installed iTunes on my laptop HP 6735b running under microsoft Windows 7 ultimate 32-bit
after trying to use program nothing happens in reliability monitor i get "program stopped" next to iTunes and quicktime i personally think the issue is strictly related to quicktime as the same issue appears to affect it as well clean re-install does no good, compatibility mode also does not solves the issue
i've followed all guidelines from http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/ -no effect
    microsoft remains extremely unhelpful
i am really desperate -please advise

  • Cannot open iTunes on Windows 7

I was getting an error when I tried to open iTunes that said "iTunes has stopped working" and it asked me if I wanted to send the problem to Microsoft. The error appeared after about a minute after clicking to try to open it.
I am running Windows 7, and have never before had a problem with iTunes. The only thing I have tried is reinstalling iTunes - I just downloaded the latest version and installed it (didn't delete the old one first). The result is that now I don't even get an error message, just nothing, when I try to open iTunes.
    Please help!

    Hi and welcome..
Might be a good idea to check the hard disk.

  • Am getting Routine error  R6034. I can not open iTunes.  Windows Vista Home  64 bit

For the  first time,am getting a routine error R6034. Do not let open my iTunes, and possible lost all my contents. Why is this happening, is it nothing  secure on the Internet no more even our music? Please  I appreaciate any good help. I tried to redownload am stil the same  message. During reinstallation.."Service Apple mobile device failed to start. Verify that you have sufficient privileges. Options   ABORT,RETRY,OR IGNORE. That is what am getting.

Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
    iTunes
    Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.
    Please note:
Some users may need to follow all the steps in whichever of the following support documents applies to their system. These include some additional manual file and folder deletions not mentioned above.

  • ITunes and Windows Vista Ultimate 64-bit

Is there an iTunes version that is compatible with the 64-bit version of Windows Vista Ultimate? If so, can you please let me know?

I have iTunes 7.3.2.6 running on Ultimate Vista 64. I initially had problems with it recognizing my DVD-RW but eventually found a solution in this group related to the GEAR drivers.
The only problem that remains is not recognizing the current user as administrator unless you "launch as administrator." But this has not affected performance.
BTW, when application developers list "32-bit Vista" under system requirements, this does not mean that 64-bit Vista versions can't run it, it only means that it's not a 64-bit app. Vista 64 is designed to run 32-bit apps.

Still unable to download itunes to my pc. Tried with IE, Mozilla and Google Chrome. Keep getting an error message :"Windows cannot open itunes.exe the file is corrupt contact support."previous itunes files were wipped out by "disk cleaner." Any help??
    Please!
    Thanks!

If anyone is reading this still looking for what caused the issue and how to fix it here is what I discovered.
The antivirus program our company uses, Bitdefender Antivirus Plus, was causing some of the PDF files not to open. After troubleshooting the different modules and settings the culprit was..
Scan SSL in Privacy Control Settings. Turning it OFF solved the problem and all the PDF files that previously would not open now open just fine. This issue has been sent to Bitdefender for them to review. If you use a different antivirus program and are having this issue try locating the Scan SSL setting and see if turning it off solves the problem.
