I cannot open my email account since going to firefox 5 at talktalk

I go to talktalk.co.uk to access my email (a lineone.net account) and it come up "a number of undisclosed emails" and will not let me open the account. If I use safari on my ipad it is fine. It was okay before I upgraded to firefox 5. I am running XP pro

When you enter a search term in the Firefox location bar and press Enter, Firefox will per default do a "I'm feeling lucky" Google search and redirect you to the first result that matches your search term. This behaviour can be changed by a number of add-ons. If you'd like to restore the previous default behaviour, please follow these steps:
#Enter about:config in the Firefox location bar and press Enter.
#You should see a warning that making changes to the Firefox configuration can be potentially harmful to Firefox's integrity. Click the ''I'll be careful, I promise'' button to continue.
#In the Search box at the top, enter ''keyword'' as the search term. You should see a few remaining items, one of these is ''keyword.URL''. It should be bold.
#Right-click on the keyword.URL setting and select ''Reset'' from the dropdown menu.

I cannot add tabs or new icons. Therefore I cannot open any email accounts easily in Firefox. Help!

In earlier versions of firefox, I used the google toolbar, which is now banned. No subsitute tabs or icons for frequently visited sites is offered by Firefox 6. Indeed, no library of icons even seems to be available. There is a page on how to add icons that offers zero icons and does not appear to function at all except as a useless irritant. I cannot now get to my gmail. Nor can I do a google search because Firefox 6 keeps erasing the google search bar. This is the worst Firefox ever. Can anyone help me with adding icons and getting to my email without going through a drop down menu?

Try this first - Reset the iPad by holding down on the Sleep and Home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons. (This is equivalent to rebooting your computer.)
Or this - Delete the account in Mail and then set it up again. Settings->Mail, Contacts, Calendars -> Accounts Tap on the Account, then on the red button that says Remove Account.

It's possible that you are having a problem with some Firefox add-on that is hindering your Firefox's normal behavior. Have you tried disabling all add-ons (just to check), to see if Firefox goes back to normal?

Until yesterday I have not any issue with opening my email in google mail. I am a student at Miami of Ohio and access the email thru their site. The system functions fine other wise. I can open the email account and when I try to open the email it highlights the email, but will not open it. I tried to access it thru IE and it works fine. I cannot open individual email entries in my webmail

When I open my email account I cannot open any individual emails. If I use a Chrome browser, I am able to open my emails.
There is a preview option in the account and I can see my emails in that preview window.

I get plans and specification sent as attachments and they are pdf files. When I go to open the attachment three options come up 1 Open with protected mode disabled
2 Always open with protected mode disaled
3 Do not opern with protected mode disabled.
My only option is to open with protected mode disabled.
But when I go online, I do not get that option - It just says problems with adobe and connot download.

Assuming that you mean that the Mail app isn't working properly as opposed to it not being able to download your emails due to account/password problems, then try closing the Mail app completely and see if it works properly when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't work also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

Welcome to the discussions, rubobs.
If the list of messages is taking the full depth of the mail window, look for a little dot in the centre of the bottom bar of the window and drag it upwards to reveal the "Preview" pane.

You said you tried the recommended solution, but didn't mention what that solution was. Try, from the Firefox menu bar:
 
Tools -> Options -> Content
where you will find an option to block pop-up windows. If that box is checked but there are sites from which you would like to allow pop-up, click the button "Exceptions..." to add sites to your exception list.

I dont get the "open with" option when I click on the arrow in the menu bar. I can open attachment files on G-mail website from Safari though. Try resetting the iPad - its like rebooting a computer.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.
This might help as well.
You can try resetting all settings. Settings>General>Reset>Reset All Settings. You will have to enter all of your app preferences and device settings again
