  • Cannot open iPhoto or access library due to failed update

I have tried several times to update my 10.7 MacBook Pro but the combined update always hangs and gets stuck on "moving items into place". I ignored it for a while and realized without this update I cannot open iphoto or even access my photo library. Every time I click the dock icon I get an error that states I need the most recent version. So I guess my two questions would be what can I do to update this software successfully? And how can I access the iPhoto library without updating (in case I can't update)? Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

  • Can't open Finder or keychain access after last Yosemite update

I have a new Mac (2) number and I cannot open Finder, Keychain access, and several other programs from my Dock or Applications since the last update

    Hi ..
    Might be corrupted Dock preferences.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
Type or copy paste the following:
    ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.dock.plist
Click Go then move the com.apple.dock.plist file to the Trash.
Restart your Mac then see if you can open the Finder and other apps from the Dock.

  • Keychain Access hangs after update to 10.7.2. Any help?

I recently updated to OSX 10.7.2 and can no longer open the Keychain Access app. It hangs on startup. A side effect of this is that I can no longer access my department's WPA Enterprise network as network preferences cannot access the certificates stored in the keychain.
    Please help!

    Hello,
We are finding the same solution seems to work for the time being with our systems at the University I work at.
However, it is not ideal because it stops the Keychain from checking whether or not a certificate has been expired or revoked. The two settings, OSCP and CRL are both methods to make sure a certificate is still valid and should be trusted by checking up the chain to the issuer. If the issuer is on the internet and you are stuck in a captive portal then how can you check? I think Lion is getting into a catch 22 here.
You can set these values in the command line using the following:
    To set the CRL settings:
defaults write com.apple.security.revocation CRLStyle -string OFF
    To set the OCSP settings:
defaults write com.apple.security.revocation OCSPStyle -string OFF
The next time my test machine beachballs while trying to launch Keychain access, I am going to try this as a quick workaround myself. We are seeing a continual stream of students coming into our HelpDesk with this problem and the fixes above only work for a short period of time. Then it all breaks again.
I have our network security people looking into allowing the certificate checks for our systems to go even from the captive portal.  I will report back any success or failure as a workaround for this method.
Having to set machines to not check for revokation of certificates seems like one more step closer to just throwing put the whole trusted certificate idea as a usable security method.

  • Missing view option passwords in keychain access

When i open keychain access the option to show passwords has gone.
Why and how can i restore it ?
    Thanks Terry

    Hi Linc,
When l open the keychain access box the list headings when l choose passwords are
: Name| Kind | Date Modified | Keychain | and this one used to be passwords but is now blank|
but of course it had a series of dots before where the passwords should be, now there are no dots below.
Then from the drop down list l could opt to ` show passwords' and they would appear, but the heading and the dots are no longer there beneath,
and l don`t have the option to show them from the drop down menu, so it`s not the main password but the option to remind myself what all passwords l chose
are, slightly dissconcerting to say the least.
l hope this isn`t too long winded, l wondered if l had caused this myself somehow or more worryingly someone  or thing else.
    Regards,
    Terry
P.S. l know l can use Safari for the Safari saved passwords but that is not the point, l don`t like my mac hiding personal data from me, it seems odd .
    Thanks again.

  • I just updated My Macbook pro version 10.6 security update and cannot open mail.

I moved mail back to applications folder as suggested in other blogs but still is not working. I cannot open mail to access preferences. Help!

Software, as in applications, maybe. Software as in Operating System, heck no. We're now at 10.8 level, you're two levels behind. Latest iPhoto, as in v9.3.2, is part of iLife'11 and needs a minimum of Lion 10.7 to run.
Since Mountain Lion 10.8 came out, Apple has dropped support for Snow Leopard 10.7, since they only maintain the latest two versions of the OS. So you will be seeing more and more of these "unupgradeable upgrades" in the coming days.

  • Keychain Access and Certificates?

I was looking for information on a password manager and remembered that Apple has Keychain Access as part of the OS.
I am trying to understand how it works and only find the Help files available for reading. I am missing a somewhat deeper overview and understanding, not just a list of 'how to ...' instructions.
Can anyone point me to articles or documentartion to help understand this application?
While poking around in Keychain Access, I noticed 175 unique certificates on my Mac under the Keychain called 'System Roots'. I looked at the information on several and am unable to interpret the information, nor the Trust settings available. Also, the Certificate Assistant options available for Viewing and Evaluating Certificates.
My biggest concern is that I do not recognize most of these certificates, and do not understand how they got on my computer, and what happens if I remove them?

Thanks - I looked at several of the links, but I'm not a software engineer.
I'm looking for documents that are geared to a user of the product (OSX), to help me understand all the things I see when opening up Keychain Access, and understand what they do, and a layman's description of the certificates and what happens if I delete them.
Also, a brief overview of the keychain and how it is used, how it is useful, etc.
Just can't seem to find the user oriented documentation...

  • Cant sign into icloud and keychain access crashes on opening

I have recently experienced very frustrating glitches in my iMac's operability (2011 model, 1TB hard disk and recent upgrade to 12GB RAM to overcome very slow running).  The machine runs OSx 10.9.5.  I cannot sign into iCloud on this machine (although my iPan and iPhone both work) and every time I open Keychain access it crashes.  Sorry to post 2 issues in one thread, but I have never experienced these before and wonder if  they are  related?

    Do a backup.
    Quit the application.
Go to Finder and select your user/home folder. With that Finder window as the front window, either select Finder/View/Show View options or go command - J.  When the View options opens, check ’Show Library Folder’. That should make your user library folder visible in your user/home folder.  Select Library. Then go to Preferences/com.apple.keychainaccess.plist. Move the .plist to your desktop.
Restart the computer, open the application and test. If it works okay, delete the plist from the desktop.
If the application is the same, return the .plist to where you got it from, overwriting the newer one.
Thanks to leonie for some information contained in this.
What happens when you try to sign into iCloud?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad and start typing the name.
The title of the Console window should be All Messages. If it isn't, select
SYSTEM LOG QUERIES ▹ All Messages
from the log list on the left. If you don't see that list, select
              View ▹ Show Log List
from the menu bar at the top of the screen.
Click the Clear Display icon in the toolbar. Then try to launch Keychain Access. Select any lines that appear in the Console window. Copy them to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. Paste into a reply to this message by pressing command-V.

  • I installed windows 7 recently and also Adobre reader XI, and now I cannot open any of my previously created pdfs. Every time I get the message: Error opening the file. Access denied. What is going on?

Recently I had to install windows 7 in my notebook because XP doesn't have more support. Before installing I backed up all my files to my external HD. Now that I instaleed windows 7 and also installed Acrobat Reader XI, I just cannot open any of my pdf files created prior to installing windows 7.
Looking for help online, I found the solution of security and giving me access as an administrator to all my files, but it still keeps the same...
Can some one please help me out?? I really need to work on many of this files ASAP.
Thank you all in advance for you attention,
    Best,

  • I also cannot access part of the App Store, I have been trying to down load a magazine app, it has been trying to connect but it has been taking a long time. Also since I did my last update I have lost the ability to face time, I also cannot open iPhoto's

Since my last update on the newest version iPad I have not been able to download a magazine app that I have a subscription for as well I cannot open iPhoto's or video. When I go into settings and go down to where iTunes Mail etc are it freezes my I pad and I cannot access these. Is there a apple system problem? This has been going on for over a week now.

For FaceTime try the troubleshooting advice given here:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ts3367
    Also try resetting your iPad:
Reset: Press the Home and On/Off buttons at the same time and hold them until the Apple logo appears (about 10-15 seconds).
    No data will be lost.

  • The Microsoft Access database engine cannot open or write to the file in Report Builder 3.0

I am trying to build a report in Report Builder 3.0.  I created the Data Source to point to my Excel file and the Data Set.  I drag a couple of fields on to the canvas and then choose Run.  I get the error:  "The Microsoft Access

No, now I am getting the error message again.  It is quite long:

  • After successful installation of iTunes 10.6.1, iTunes will not open.  Tried complete uninstall and reinstall, still not working.  Cannot sync iPad or access iTunes at all.  Any suggestions?

After successfully installing the iTunes upgrade to 10.6.1, Now I cannot open and access itunes.  I have tried a complete uninstall and reinstall and it is still not working. I have looked through many support communities for answers.  I added an iPad 2 almost a year ago and all was fine until my upgrade to the "cloud services" and upgrade to new version.  I have been without iTunes on my PC for a month.  Any suggestions on how to resolve this issue?

I too have only recently encountered this problem. I have been able to burn disks before but it keeps making all these weird sounds. It might be a hardware problem but the fact that everything else that uses a disk works I doubt it.

  • Keychain access takes a long time to open

From time to time I like to look up a password for a site or network in Keychain Access (KA). Recently, when opening KA, I received the beachball. Looking at the Force Quit window, it shows that KA is not responding. But as many know, that sometimes means a program is 'thinking'. So I decided to wait it out. Finally, 2-3 minutes later, it opened. I used Keychain First Aid and it found and fixed a few problems. But any time and every time afterwards, starting it up again yields the same 3 minute hang/think/open result. Also, searching in the search box within KA also takes that same 2-3 minutes to find the result.
    Any ideas, folks? Thanks.

Just one addition....I just noticed KA contains over 46,000 items (!!) Wonder if that's normal.
