I cannot open or save pdf's from a https link

Hi, I'm hoping that someone can point me in the right direction. I have Acrobat reader 9 and IE8, and ever since one of these was updated (not sure which one) I have been unable to open or save https pdf's. Every now and then it works, but more often than not nothing happens. It always works if I copy the shortcut to a new page and change https to http, but I download lots of these and this is not a suitable work-around. The download screen sits on 0% downloading and nothing happens. Thanks in anticipation!

Thanks for the suggestion, but perhaps I should have been more specific. I use a specific website that allows me to run reports which are then created as pdf files. The company that owns the website has no problems with saving and opening the pdf files, and I really do not want to resort to another app when I know it should be possible. What I have now done in IE8 is to display all websites in compatibility vew (not sure if that helps, seeing as the website I use is compatible with IE8), added the website to my trusted sites zone, and ticked "require server verification (https) for all sites in this zone".  This has sorted out 90% of the problem - I still get pdf files that I have to open via copy shortcut, but not so many. It would be great if I could sort out the last 10% though.

    I have just upgraded to OSX 10.6.8 and now I cannot open or save PDF files from the internet using either Safari or Firefox. I get a dialogue box saying the QuickTime plugin has failed. Can anyone help?

    Is this what you downloaded: iTunes 10.7?
    When the update fails what if any error report do you get, specifically? Please do this before trying again:
    Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
    Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
    If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.

  • Cannot print or save PDF files from internet

    I can no longer save PDF from the web. Error messeage shows The document “doc.pdf” could not be exported as “doc.pdf”. Nor can I print a pdf from the internet, instead it prints blank pages. It used to work fine. I know that this is not a problem with the documents I am downloading because I have no problem saving and printing the same files from a Dell computer.
    Thanks

  • Cannot open a downloaded pdf file..."The file couldn't be opened because it isn't in the correct format."

    I have had this problem several times lately: I cannot open a downloaded pdf file. The error message reads: "The file couldn't be opened because it isn't in the correct format." But, of course, it is a pdf file.

    My MacBook Pro (2.5 Ghz Intel Core i5) is running OS X 10.9.4. Here is what happens when reading an online user manual that I want to save to the Desktop and read later as a PDF file on my iPad or phone. With Safari I will select "Export As PDF" and the file shows up on the desktop. Even after multiple trials, there will be a dialogue box indicating the file cannot be opened. If I check the file info, the size is "zero." Trying to save the file as a pdf using the Print menu yields the same results. I have tried both of these methods using Preview, Adobe Reader, and PDF Pen Pro. This strange behavior also occurred several weeks ago and I finally abandoned the effort. But when the same thing happens twice, it becomes an issue that needs to be resolved.

  • How do i save PDFs directly from web browser to iBooks - on a MAC

    Is it possible to save PDFs directly from a web browser (any web browser) to iBooks?
    it is easy to view and 'open in' iBooks from an iPad/iPhone, but don't see this option on the MAC.
    i have resorted to saving the file and emailing it.  Once viewed on the 'i-device' it can be easily saved.
    iBooks is installed on my MAC and synced, so i can view the library.
    I am just missing this direct step - MAC to iBooks
    Please help,
    Thanks - Rob

    The iphone is not a storage/backup device.
    The sync is one way - computer iphone.  The only exception is itunes purchases:  File>Devices>Transfer Purchases
    Copy everything from your old computer, or your backup copy of your old comptuer, to your new one.

  • Error while Open and save pdf using Adobe library

    I m using adobe library to open and save PDF using VC++ MFC .
    as given samples are working for me all are using console application to accomplish this task.
    But when i tried to use same functions to open and save PDF from DOC/VIEW application it gives me an error.
    it is a strange problem that I don't understand. If I compile the following code (Visual C++ 2000 Express Edition) I get an error message: "Unhandled exception at 0x0041183f in test.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000004."
    For your reference when I simply  create one function and one menu and called that function from menu.
    Please see the code is given below.
    The code is given below
    void CPDF_MFCDoc::OnPdfOpen()
        // TODO: Add your command handler code here
        OpenPDF();
    #define PDF_FNAME1  "C:/Test.pdf"
    void OpenPDF()
         PDDoc pdDoc= NULL;
         ASErrorCode errCode = 0;
         DURING
            pdDoc1 = MyPDDocOpen(PDF_FNAME1);
        HANDLER
            errCode = ERRORCODE;
        END_HANDLER
    It gives me an error as.
    Unhandled exception at 0x004075b1 in PDF_MFC.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x00000024.
    But when same thing I was complied from console ,it works.
    Working code is given below.
    #define PDF_FNAME1  "C:/Test.pdf"
    void MainProc(int argc, char **argv )
         PDDoc pdDoc= NULL,
         ASErrorCode errCode = 0;
         DURING
                 pdDoc1 = MyPDDocOpen(PDF_FNAME1);
         HANDLER
            errCode = ERRORCODE;
        END_HANDLER

        ASFileSys asFileSys = ASGetDefaultFileSys();
        volatile ASPathName asPathName    = NULL;
        volatile PDDoc        pdDoc        = NULL;
        DURING
            /* Create asPathName from file.*/
            #if MAC_PLATFORM
            asPathName = GetMacPath(fileName);
            #else
            asPathName = ASFileSysCreatePathName(asFileSys, ASAtomFromString("Cstring"), fileName, 0);
            #endif
            /* Open pdDoc from asPathName.*/
            pdDoc = PDDocOpen(asPathName, NULL, NULL, true);
            fprintf(stdout, "Successfully opened %s\n", fileName);
        HANDLER
            fprintf(stderr, "Unable to open %s\n", fileName);
            pdDoc = NULL;
        END_HANDLER
        /* Release asPathName.*/
        if (asPathName)
            ASFileSysReleasePath(asFileSys, asPathName);

  • Adobe Reader X 10.1.1: Can't open or download PDF-file from bank

    Hello,
    I make internet banking and try to download a PDF-file from the HTTPS-page of my bank. If I click on the Java Script-link to the PDF-file the PDF-file does not open. I can also not download the PDF-file. I talked with the bank support and they told me that they had no such problem.
    Thank you for your help.

    I am getting the exact error trying to down load bank statements but when I go to 'uncheck' the "Do not save encrypted page to disk" box it is ALREADY unchecked.  Can't get my bank statements down loaded.  Any other suggestions.  Need help quick.

  • 2146827284Microsoft Excel cannot open or save any more documents because there is not enough available memory or disk space

    Hi Experts,
    I am getting below error when Exporting data from my one web application to the Excel 2010 on Windows Server 2008 R2 ,
    02/29/2012 18:54:50
    Type : System.Exception, mscorlib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b11a5c481859e569
    Message : -2146827284Microsoft Excel cannot open or save any more documents because there is not enough available memory or disk space.
    • To make more memory available, close workbooks or programs you no longer need.
    • To free disk space, delete files you no longer need from the disk you are saving to.
    The disk space is 30 GB free, I have cleared all the temp files, increased the virtual memory & internet temp files size to max but no luck

    You want to use this one here - MMC
    comexp.msc /32
    THAT will launch the MMC process
    as 32 bit then you'll the Microsoft Excel Application.
    Right Click -> Properties.
    What I did at this point was to select the Identity tab and then select "The Interactive User" (the default was "The launching user").  My app pool was already running as "LocalSystem".  I believe by running it as the Interactive User now that it
    has the right permissions to save workbooks.
    Everything worked after this.
    This was a tough one!

    Hit the link for the PDF-you will be given option to open in safari or iBooks(or any other program able o open PDFs).
    That's not what she asked about.  She asked about saving PDFs, not just opening them and reading them.  While Safari lets you open PDF documents, it does not let you save them.  In order to save them, you'll need to use a web browser that permits downloading.  I use Atomic Web Browser and can confirm that it does permit downloading and saving of PDF documents.

    When you open a pdf in iBooks, it's automatially saved there.

  • Mac OS 10.9.4 cannot open the NEF/RAW files from the new Nikon D810 Camera

    I have a new Nikon D810 camera. My new iMac cannot open the NEF/RAW files from it...Anyone have any knowledge of this?

    If you will take the time to send Apple feedback, they will add RAW support - when I got my Canon, it wasn't supported either. I filed feedback and, two months, later, there was an update which included my camera model.

  • Cannot forward one page PDF files from mail app

    My earlier topic had incorrect problem report so I've created a new topic.
    The problem is i cannot forward one page PDF file from mail apps. I use imap set up for my work email.
    Multi page PDFs, photos, docs, numbers, all forward OK for both windows and Mac formats.

    Update: I hade had a reply from the Good Reader app developer saying this is a known issue even for them. However, they don't know if Apple will fix this or not.
    Basically mail app treats all one page PDF as if it's an image and will forward it the same as it would an image. Any non-apple based mail programs will have issues viewing this file..
