I cannot open some sites. Others open fine.

I have a PPC iMac G4 running 10.5.8. Both in Safari and Firefox, some sites open right away (mail.yahoo.com, wellsfargo.com, apple.com). But others will not open or will take minutes to open (yahoo.com, mail.google.com, wunderground.com). Bizare for sure. Set up static IP address to find this mac on my network. No settings have changed since this system was set up a few years ago. Other PCs on my network work fiine. Also rebooted DSL modem, and router. Any ideas?

Finally had time to work on the iMac again. Checked the above link and other links off of that. No help. Covers basic trouble shooting. I am using the iMac now. The problem is not being able to open or seriously delayed opening of some sites, like Yahoo, Google or Bing. Would something in Onyx have deleated or changed settings to cause this? Thanks to anyone who can help.

I just got a new laptop and have discovered this issue: When I try to click links on some sites to open a lightbox or popup (usually for login boxes or photo slideshows) nothing happens. Absolutely nothing, no error message, no loading screen, no "busy" or "working" animations, no redirect. I've tried the same pages in the latest versions of Internet Explorer and Chrome and they work correctly. These sites work on my old laptop with the same version of Firefox and Vista SP2 32 bit and my work computer with Windows 7 64 bit.
I've tried disabling Add-Ons one by one and as a group, didn't make a difference. I've cleared the cache and cookies. I've turned by firewall and antivirus/antispyware/antimalware programs on and off.
Sites with a known issue: "View larger images" on Zillow.com, Login on Moviepilot.com, Login on doubletakedeals.com. I can't remember any others at the moment.

If you use extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) that can block content (e.g. Adblock Plus, NoScript, Flash Block, Ghostery) then make sure that such extensions aren't blocking content.
Start Firefox in [[Safe Mode|Safe Mode]] to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).
*Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

You can inspect and manage the permissions for all domains on the about:permissions page or for the domain in the currently selected tab by clicking the "Site Identity Button" (globe/padlock) on the location bar and "More Information" to open "Page Info" and go to the Permissions tab.

You can delete the permissions.sqlite file to reset all permissions.
Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

yea, that has happenend to me as well.
Well this is what has happenend to me anyway.
I will go to the apple site and enter the discussions forum, and the blue bar in the url box will jsut hang for minutes sometimes. THen the page will finally open as well as the blue bar will show up all the way.
But then i will click on say , the safari forum, and the blue bar will open just alittle, though the page will not, and ill wait anoither 2 minue and it finally open.
is this what they call, "hung up", or "hanging?"
but mine doesnt time out, i get no error message. Just th spinning ball , and sometimes no spinning ball.

Go step by step and test.
1. Power cycle
     Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
     Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly.
     It will take a   while.
     Restart the computer.
     Start up in Safe Mode

2 Empty Caches
    Safari > Preference > Advanced
    Checkmark the box for "Show Develop menu in menu bar".
    Develop menu will appear in the Safari menu bar.
    Click Develop and select "Empty Caches" from the dropdown.
3. Reset Safari.
    Click Safari in the menu bar.
    From the drop down select "Reset Safari".
      Click "Reset".
4. Safari > Preferences > Privacy > Cookies and all other website data:
     Press “Remove All Website Data” button
5. Turn off Extensions if any, and launch Safari.
    Safari > Preferences > Extensions

Unable to open https sites. can open when using firefox in safe mode.

Mozilla Firefox has been an exceptional browser, however in the last update I have experienced problems when trying to open https sites. They will not open and then time out. I do not have this problem when using Internet explorer. I have contacted customer service at the problem sites, and they have said other customers have also experienced this problem. I have gone into options and have changed various settings to see if this would solve the problem. It didn't, your response would be appreciated.. Firefox lingers and don't open some sites

When I open Firefox he constantly tries to read the file "opstatic.dealplay.com" and tries constantly to connect with the file "firefox.dealplay.com". Some sites don't open anymore. What happening? can you help me?

If you have games etc. that opens a page in your default browser, you can try to set another browser you are not using as the default.

Safari does not open some sites

Since last one year Safari has not been opening certain sites, so had to load Google Chrome as a back up.
Recently bought a new Macbook, and got an upgrade of OS X to Yosemite. Thought now the problem is going
to be over but disappointed that even the latest software has not cleared the issue. Have tried some of things that
are suggested in the forums, but so far no foolproof solution. So wondering whether have to resort again to Google chrome

It sounds to me that you are experiencing the "unexpectedly losing connection" error that doesn't allow web pages (even some of Apple's pages) to load. I'm experiencing the same thing and after clearing out my website data and turning off extensions and a host of other attempts to fix, I still get the same issue.
I've switched over to Chrome for now after using Safari from the very beginning until I see an update that fixes it.

If you can still access the machine and haven't wiped the drive, open the Mac App Store, log in to your Apple ID, and try to download Mavericks from there. If it works, make a bootable USB from the
Mavericks installer (google how to do this). Then boot to the USB wipe the drive and install Mavericks clean. And since it shoudl be associated with your Apple ID at that point you shouldn't have any issues.

Jpeg, can open some, not others

Since upgrading to the CS3 version of camera raw, I noticed that I can open some jpeg files and not others with camera raw. I have checked the box in the preference dialog for using camera for jpeg and tiff's and that does not seem to make a difference. Any thoughts on this?

Safari 7: Slow, some sites not opening and after re-starting Safari it show tabs I had opened when I installed Mavericks

I can't open many sites with Safari 7 (for example Google Drive, simple web pages). It looks like it's loading the page but it never stops loading. I can open these sites without any problem with Chrome.
When I quit Safari and re-open Safari the tabs are shown which were open when I upgraded to Mavericks. I can open 10 different tabs, quit Safari, open Safari again and only the 4 tabs which were opened a few days ago are shown. All other 10 tabs are gone.
Has anybody a solution to this?

Firefox cannot display accentuated letters correctly on some sites and is fine with others

Firefox 3.6.8 on OS X 10.6.4 here. Firefox has a problem displaying accentuated characters on some websites like “é”, “à” etc. but is fine with the same characters on other websites.
How can I fix this? Safari has no problems with the same websites.

Why can't I open some sites and videos in youtube?

A few days ago it started with youtube. I wasn't able to watch videos and at the beginning didn't think much of it( i had the problem before but not for so long ). Then I tried to find the solution in the web but then I noticed I couldn't open a lot of sites like the Opera download page or the "uninstall flash player" page. I thought if I find where the problem whit youtube is I would find the solution for the sites . btw I wasn't able to update Java too. So, can somebody help me, please?
