I cannot open the mail app on my ipad

HI all,
i am having problems with my iPad 2 when using mail.  It all worked fine until today.
when a new email arrives the icon shows waiting mail.  When I open the mail app it shows a blank screen with the normal boxes in but no text and no email.  After approx 10 seconds the screen fades to black and then goes back to the home screen. See image below.
i have tried doing a reset but it make no difference.
any help much appreciated.
thanks
Chris

Have you tried to force close the mail app? Double tap the home button. You'll see icons and previews on the screen. Scroll sideways if needed to bring the mail app up on the screen. Flick the preview up and off the screen to close it. Then single tap the home button or home page preview to exit the mode and try again.

  • Can I open the Mail app without configuration an email address?

I'm trying to open a .eml file, which seems possible in the Mail app.  However, I can't open the Mail app without configuration an email account.  I don't have an email account to configure; just want to open the file.  Or, let's suppose, I just wanted to browse the interface?  How to avoid the account setup part?

Just enter anything short & plausible in as few fields as you can get away with : '[email protected]' works here, you'll get a brief 'not responding' or such at each stage, but it does allow you to use Mail.

  • How can I change the settings on my iPhone 5 so that I get new emails automatically? Without having to open the mail app.

How can I change the settings on my iPhone 5 so that I get new emails automatically? Without having to open the mail app.
    Thanks!

No, they will all follow the default setting. If you want them all to fetch, for example every 15 minutes, then set it to 15 minutes in Fetch. I only mentioned the other if you wanted to leave one for manual. I have an account on my phone that is a POP account that I get mail at home from. I let my home computer get this mail, but when I am out of town, I pick it up with the iPhone. That one is set to manual.

  • You cannot open the application app store because it is not supported on this architecture

My Apple store app will not open, and it gives me this error. What can I do?
"you cannot open the application app store because it is not supported on this architecture"

The Mac App Store application is damaged. Open  > About this Mac, and check which Mac OS X version you have.
If you have got 10.7 or newer, hold Command and R keys while your Mac is starting and reinstall OS X. Another option is to download the OS X installer from the Mac App Store and use Pacifist to install Mac App Store.
If you have got 10.6, first try reinstalling OS X 10.6.8 > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1399?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US If it doesn't work, insert the Snow Leopard DVD, hold the C key while your Mac is starting up and reinstall Mac OS X. Then, use the link above to download Mac OS X 10.6.8 from the Apple site

Can you actually see that the attachment has a .jpg extension?  Some mail systems strip it off (I've seen AOL do that) which makes the attachment difficult to open.

  • This morning I cannot open the mail Icon. It worked last night. What happened?

This morning I cannot open the mail Icon. It worked last night.

I'd first recommend restarting your computer before taking the steps below.
Click the Finder icon on the left side of the Dock to open a new Finder window (if no new window appears, select New Finder Window from Finder's File menu).
Select Applications from the left sidebar.
Locate Mail inside of Applications and double-click the icon to launch Mail.
If this doesn't work, could you provide some more information as to how you're opening the application and what you're seeing?

  • TS1741 I have lost the original remote for my Apple TV. I went to install it at my fiancés house, and cannot use the remote app on my ipad or iPhone. Can I still control the Apple TV with the apps?

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Your Apple TV may have become paired with another remote. Hold the remote close to and pointed at the Apple TV, hold down the menu and Rewind buttons together for 6 seconds or until you see a broken chain icon on screen.

  • Strange problem with the mail app on an iPad

I've got a bit of a strange problem with the mail app on an iPad - it's sending and receiving mail ok but won't let you delete mail. If you keep at it, it appears as if you have deleted mail (though takes a very long time as you just have to keep deleting it over and over again) -  but the size of the app still keeps going up - reached 600mb so far, even though there is hardly any mail or attachments (goes up quite a lot each time you try to delete anything) - any idea what's causing this and how I can fix it?
It occasionally comes up with a dialogue panel saying to check my account settings, but I have checked those and they are fine. The little 'loading' icon just keeps spinning constantly too.

go to Settings > Mail > your account > Advanced > Move Discarded Messages Into
and make sure that Deleted Mailbox is ticked, and not Archive Mailbox
You can also adjust how long the deleted mail stays in the trash immediately below that.
If you are talking about a gmail account, you may also have to login to your account on the gmail server and update the settings there.  This is what Barney previously posted about that:

Have you tried giving your iPad a reset? Hold down the sleep and home keys, past when you see the red power down slider and until you see the silver apple. let it reboot and try again.

  • Can't open the mail app

    hello
The problem appeared two days ago is that I can't open my mail app. everything was fine and functional. Now I double click on the icon and it does not respond. it receives mail and I can see push notifications on the mail icon but when  I try to open it is no use. OS Y 10.10.2 (14C1514)

after some efforts I realized that it is possible to open mail application thru View category heading down to full screen exposure but still this is problematic and I am not able to open it directly by clicking on the mail icon. When mail app is opened in full screen size I only have red and green lights highlighted and yellow is disabled.

  • HT5501 i cannot use the mail app anymore.

after the security update, i'm using snow leopard 10.6.8. it says my version 4.5 (1084/1085) can't be used in my version of OS X (10.6.8)

As Apple clearly allows to move the mail app into a different place, it is not a valid option to make security updates that expect it, where it was installed originally. I have set up different folders for apps, i.e. office, games, net, tools etc... and dropped the applications there. So my mail.app is located in the subfolder "net". This did work flawlessly since 2009 now. All of the sudden mail.app does not work anymore since yesterday.
BTW mail is not the only app that gets fu**ed up by the update. I found 2 other programs but could recover them from my time maschine backups yesterday.
Moving all apps to the default folder and download gigs of data IS NOT AN OPTION.  If Apple does not want me to use their mail client, there are other options. At least until they fix this bug and provide a working update...
    Cheers,    Mike
I am with 10.6.8 because 10.7.x was unstable windows like bull**it.
I did not try 10.8 yet but from what I read I am not too optimistic.

  • I do not have any problems when downloading the new itunes. 10.6.3 version, but once "installed" I cannot open the itunes app by clicking on the icon, help please!

When attempting to download the new version of itunes I was able to complete the download without a problem but cannot open the icon when everthing is done. I unistalled everything and reinstalled, I followed all the trouble-shooting guides, I attempted to download an older version and nothing is working. Prior to attempting to download this "new and improved version of itunes" everything was working fine. Unfortunately I had to update when I got a new iPhone and wanted to sync it to my old library and needed an updated version of itunes.

    Restart Computer.
Refer steps here to delete SC file(s):
    Win7/Vista http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2363
    WinXP http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1776
Then proceed to repair your QuickTime. START > CONTROL PANEL
WinXP - Add n Remove Programs
    Win7/Vista - Programs n Features
highlight QUICKTIME and click CHANGE then REPAIR

  • Is there any virus protection/scanning in the Mail app on iPhones/iPads?

I recently received a virus through an email I opened on my iPhone. I believe with the virus scanning that Gmail does, it wouldn't have allowed me to open it if I had done so on my computer in the Gmail app. Just wondering if Apple provides any scanning/protection in the Mail app?

    ss4156 wrote:
Not necessarily viruses infecting the device but email viruses that send 100's of spam emails to all contacts, etc.
Those sorts of attacks are the result of your email account being hacked through the email server. Your iPhone is not involved.  Opening an email on your phone, unless you followed a link and gave out passwords would not cause that sort of problem. A virus is a program that has to run on your device. Even if a Windows virus were attached to the email, it simply can't run on an iOS device.

  • How to get my mail through without opening the mail app...

    Hi
I have a tendancy to when ive finished using with my apps on my Mac I always go to top left and press quit itunes or quit mail etc
if i do that to mail, obviously when a email comes through i dont get it straight through unless the mail program is open (like on my iphone, if an email comes it just comes straight through)
what im asking is, is there a way for me to get my mail through straight away whilst the mail program is open? - thing is I like things tidy and dont like all these programs left open
also what is the point of the red X in the top left corner?, if im on a website on safari and I press the X, safari is still open isnt it, but if i click back onto safari to re open the app it just goes to the homepage
so really what is pressing the red X on the top left and quitting the app altogether, what is the difference?

Mail has to be open to receive the new mail notification.
Clicking the red x button just closes the window, does not quit the application.
To quit the application, you have to select "Quit......" from the application menu.
When an application is open, a white light indicator will be shown under the application icon in the Dock.
