I cannot perform security update with Mac OS X v10.411
I cannot perform security update with Mac OS X v10.411. My Mac Book Pro is super behind concerning updates and security.
Yes, I too have that problem. And, I have actually been hacked into, had all of my files, folders, photos, applications, sys pref, (in-other-words) EVERYTHING copied and recopied. It has been a nightmare. My identity was completely stolen. What makes it worse is that when I told apple ~ I was told by 1 Apple Supervising Technician that I was out of my mind and that it wasn't possible. He was very dismissive and treated me if I were some kind of idiot. Well, check out below. This is since Saturday or Sunday last. I didn't authorize this and I sure as **** don' know who any of these people are.
I installed the 10.5 disk. And I too, like many Macbook Pro users had the "Black Screen" bug. So I had to go back to 10.4. I went back and this is what I inherited. I now rarely have control over the computer, never my printer and I my security has been and is constantly being compromised. I believe that Apple needs to own up to this and, perhaps, do something about it? Am I asking too much?

My MacBook Pro OS X 10.5.3 cannot perform software update
My MacBook Pro OS X 10.5.3 cannot perform software update. Installation freezes at "configuring installation" stage. I have tried installing OS X 10.5.4, 10.5.6, and 10.5.8 combos. Disk utility says my HD is OK. ???????
Greetings,
If you haven't done so already, backup all your important data: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1553
Unplug any peripherals (printers, hard drives, cameras etc.) from the computer leaving only the power cord.
Try repairing disk permissions if you haven't already: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1452
Put your computer into Safe Boot: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1455 -- STOP -- Check your available hard drive space while in Safe Boot. If you do not have at least 10 GB free (and really more is better) then you need to free up some space (copy movies off to an external drive, delete the 30 GB of music you never listen to, etc.) If you have 10 or more GB available on disk proceed.
Install the Mac OS X 10.5.8 combo update while still in Safe Boot.
If you still can't install try reseting the PRAM (very occasionally disk cacheing issues can prevent large installations for succeeding): http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
If the issue persists at this point and you have plenty of free hard drive space then your next step would be an Archive and Install: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1710 -- You want a backup for safekeeping before you do this (see step 1)
Hope that helps. -
I am getting this message: You cannot install Security Update 2011-002 on this volume. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update?
is there a way to install this update?Hello
More information would be useful, for example which Mac OS are you running.
On the left menu item About this Mac provides useful information.
Also did you use Software Update to determine the update?
Using Software Update can ensure you download and install the correct package for your particular Mac and OS version. -
I just found out that Apple is no longer providing security updates on Mac OS X 10.5. What can I do to keep my comupter safe? I bought my laptop in Sept. '08 and I am not inclined to fork over a couple of thousand dollars when I have a perfectly functioning laptop. Any advise out there? Thnx
Welcome to Apple Support Communities.
Here's a 100% effective (though not necessarily practical) solution:
Never connect your computer to the internet, never insert a disc or flash drive from anyone else, never purchase any new software, and use the computer to write and print only actual letters, never connect to email.
Your computer will continue to function as it does now until it wears out, without being vulnerable to any new security threats out there, and will continue to work just fine on OS X 10.5 without any future security measures.
On a side note, I have a 16-year-old car I spent thousands of dollars to purchase new, but I've been driving it on the metal rims for a while now, because I'm not inclined to fork over money for tires, when I have an otherwise perfectly functioning car.
Then there are alternatives that cost money:
Purchase and install an antivirus program and keep it updated.
Upgrade your computer memory and hard disk if necessary so you can install OS X 10.6 'Snow Leopard', or OS X 10.7 'Lion' Snow Leopard is still supported by Apple for the moment, but support and security updates for 10.6 will likely be discontinued soon after OS X 10.8 'Mountain Lion' ships later this year.
Even though we want computers to be assets that retain or increase in value over time, the economic reality is that computers are best thought of as commodities and/or consumables that depreciate, become obsolete, and wear out, like cars, tires, and batteries. A restored 1965 Mustang Convertible, and a 2012 Mustang Convertible probably cost about the same. Which one is much safer, much faster, rides much better, and gets much better fuel mileage?
Your computer WILL be worth less five years after you purchase it than the day you bought it. The mechanical parts (hard disk) will eventually wear out. The microprocessor inside yours operates at perhaps 1/4th the maximum speed of the slowest current model. The latest video chipsets provide huge performance gains over 2008 technology. But if your current computer truly meets all your needs, then indeed there is no reason to update or upgrade.
If you're using your computer in business, a 2008 model is fully depreciated in 5 years (this year) and it's time to consider a new purchase. In the US, IRS Publication 946 will get you started: http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p946.pdf -

Is there a way to update a Mac OS X v10.4.11 with processor of 2GHz Intel Core 2Duo and memory of 1GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM into v10.9.4?Thanks
You do realise that you can add Ram, if that is all that is holding you back it's not a problem.
Tell me the exact model and age of your Mac. (The model identifier can be found by holding the option key down and clicking on the Apple Menu, select System Information (top entry) and then read the model identifier from the righthand panel (2nd entry down) -

Every time Firefox opened

Epoch (the beginning of time) for Unix is 1-1-1970 midnight GMT, less your offset from GMT - which makes it 12-31-1969 and like 2 to 6 pm on North America.

is there anything i can do? ive just worked out that after 6 ipods not working over 3 yrs...technical support have just told me to unplug isight from my imac and the ipod worked! crazy, but to use it while ipod is connected i need to update the software if anyone can pls help?
thankyou
sophieHello Sophie,
Which update are you trying to download? Can you paste a link to it?
I am confused because your title says "isight updater with mac osx 10.4...help!", but your system info shows that you are using Mac OS X (10.3.8).
If you have Mac OS X 10.4.x, all needed iSight updaters are installed.
If you are trying to use iSight simultaneously with a Firewire-connected iPod, the iPod may be inducing a conflict. See the Possible hardware or software conflicts with iSight. FAQ for more info.
I do not use iPod. You will get better help with your iPod questions at your other post of this same question: my 6th ipod finally works....guess how?!!! -

Is Photoshop Elements compatible with Mac OS X v10.8?
Is Photoshop Elements 10 compatible with Mac OS X v10.8? Thinking of purchasing it but in system requirements it only mentions up to
Mac OS X v10.7.No problems have been reported with Mountain Lion but you may wish to download the free trial using the link below and test the software for 30 days. If this is your first purchase you may wish to wait for PSE11 which is usually issued in September.

Yes, PSE versions 6 through 12 work in 10.9, although PSE 11 is a bit buggy. All other versions are fine, including PSE 12.

Archiving Original Media Files
This question crops up occasionally. The usual suggestion with tapes is to keep them. This is fine except for one potential problem ....... you need the camera to play them! If you only have one camera, it is reasonable to suppose it will eventually
