I cannot play or import a cd

How come I can no longer play or import cds to itunes?

You mention "popping & cracking" in your topic but omit same in your post.
If that is what you are hearing, then I suggest that you contact Apple ASAP. Hopefully, you are still under warranty and/or have AppleCare.
If not, regarding "cost" in the USofA, that all depends on the number of part(s) needed & then you have to take into consideration the state, city, federal, & county taxes. And, my personal favorite, labor charges.

  • Cannot Play or Import CD's...I'm so fed up, please help

Here's my dilemma. I cannot get iTunes to play or import CD's via an external drive (my internal laptop drive is broken). This is the second drive that I have purchased (prior one was a memorex, this one is a Sony Dual layer DVD-RW). When I insert the CD, the metadata regarding the album name and track names appear. But when I try to play the song it will just skip through it like the song was 0 seconds long and it will import the song (all the metadata) but there will be no song and it will take up no memory space. What the heck am I doing wrong?
Please note that when I play the cd via windows media player or nero suite it works like a charm. I'm so fed up with this now that I have wasted money on two external drives and sitll no dice. Please help.

To me, it sounds like the drive is simply having problems reading the disc - that is, it can load the table information, but eventually lose the audio stream (in whatever application you are streaming into... iTunes, Media pLayer, etc...).
Try another audio disc that does not have scratches. Try the discs that don't work in another computer.
Some drives read CDs better than others.

  • CANNOT PLAY OR IMPORT CD'S - HP Touchsmart IQ504 -

I'm trying to import cd's into itunes.  When I insert the cd, it will load the cd title and tracks, but won't play OR import them.  The sympotoms change a little as well.  I was able to hear audio from a cd through my pc for a few seconds before it froze.  This only happened once.  Normally it just sits on the 1st track "loading".  If left for an hour or so, it will respond with "Errror occurred while converting the file ' Example 1 '   The required disck cannot be found"
I thought it was Itunes and I uninsatlled and reinstalled it several times but I am also unable to hear the cd/dvd when played through " My Computer" and going to the drive.  It loads tiltle and tracks, but doesn't play.
I've tried multiple cd's.  And several "Real player"s or Quicktime etc.  The audio works fine as far as websites goes.  Youtube etc.
    Any help is greatly appreciated

  • Cannot play after importing library

Some time ago I changed my Apple id from X to Y. Then:
    1. Backed up all of iTunes library to an external hard-drive from MacBook Pro using rsync.
    2. Imported all of iTunes library into Windows iTunes from the hard-drive using File->Add Folder to Library.
    3. Double-clicked purchased track and was prompted for my Apple id and password. Put in Y and the password.
    4. Got dialog saying the machine was now authorized to play the track.
Repeated step 3. Got step 4.
Steps 3 and 4 repeat infinitely now.
These tracks will not sync to my iPod.
Anyone know how make iTunes friggin work properly here?
    Thanks,

    "Still"? It wasn't playing before?
What did you do to make it stop playing?
Where is the disconnect in these instructions that state your music should be easily transferred when in fact it is not at all?
Exactly which instruction are you referring to?

The link above does not mention anything about importing. What did you import?

  • Cannot play iPhone imported Movies in iPhoto 08

    Hi there
I dont usually use iPhoto to manage my pictures. However, when doing an iPhoto import of my iPhone pics (is there another way to get the pics off my iPhone by the way) - the pictures appear fine in iPhoto but the videos do not play for some reason. If I do a right click -> Show file -> Open, it fires up Quicktime and plays the video fine. Surely, it should play within iPhoto natively without having to show the file in finder right? If so can anyone help me figure out whats going wrong please?

  • Cannot Play or Import Sprinsteen DualDisc

I just bought the Springsteen Seeger Sessions Sony DualDisc CD/DVD. The DVD playback is excellent, but the CD Audio is garbled/fragmented on each tune. Even when I find a way to Import the CD Audio, it is the same. I tried converting to MP3 format (from original AIFF) during Import, but the Import failed. The CD side played well on my 1998 Windows laptop via RealPlayer 10. I want to put the tunes on my iPod. Is there a way to do what I am trying to do? Thanks for any advice.
    Kevin

    Kevin--
Just to reinforce what NoName said, the audio side of a DualDisc doesn't conform to the CD specifications and some drives have a great deal of difficulty focusing on the surface of the disc. This article has a very detailed explanation of how DualDiscs differ from real CDs, and how those differences can result in degraded performance (or even in the disc becoming stuck in a player). As you've discovered with your old laptop, I've had better luck with a DualDisc on an older CD-only external FireWire burner I have had for a few years.
Finally, it's also possible to buy that release from Europe as a two-disc CD/DVD package. So if you can't get the tracks from your Windows laptop to your Mac, return the DualDisc as defective and order the European package online if you want. However, you may have problems with the DVD from that package, either due to region coding or a different TV standard.

  • Cannot play or import iPhone 4 videos in Aperture 3.3.2

When trying to import a video I shot on my iPhone 4 with the built-in camera app into Aperture, I just received the message "Unsupported video format". If I try to import the video as a file from the desktop, it does not even show up in the import dialogue.
Similarly, all iPhone 4 videos I have inside Aperture already don't play anymore. I can still see the thumbnail, but trying to open them will just bring up a grey screen - nothing else.
All videos play fine in QuickTime, I have verified they are the usual standard Apple Codec and none of the other threads here helped me.
    Would anyone have any ideas?

What is your operating system? Have you upgraded to Mt. Lion after installing Aperture 3.3.2? Then I'd start with reinstalling Aperture, if the trouble started after upgrading the OS.
Otherwise, walk through the measures outlined in the Aperture 3: Troubleshooting Basics, unless you alreday have done so. Start with repairing and rebuilding the aperture, Library, followed by removing the preferences, if necessary.
Post back, if it does not help.

  • Re: Cannot play or import on itunes...thinking of reporting this to BBB

Does apple have an optical drive compatability list? I would think that a NEC drive that is oemed by Sony would be pretty commonplace but it doesn't seem to work (along with the memorex drive i have). Just not sure what to do at this point. Its just sad. My nano and itunes is not getting used whatsoever because of this. In the meantime I have bought about a dozen CD's none of which work through itunes.
Interestingly enough I work in equity research in a group that covers this stock...sigh....

I have a nearly identical problem. I can import part of the first track, and for some reason, part of the 6th track and then skips over the rest. It shows the play times as a huge number (somewhere around 667 hours) but imports nothing. I cannot play the CD with iTunes either.
I bought vista home premium and was disappointed to discover it does not come with a x64 bit disk. I used vista 32 bit software and had absolutely no problems with iTunes. After a fresh install of vista for 64 bit iTunes no longer works properly. I can still play anything I transferred from my backup HD but no importing is possible.
I have tried the error correction with no success. I tried installing and running 32 bit iTunes and it gives me an error saying something to the effect of "iTunes is improperly installed. You may need to reinstall iTunes to fix this problem."
I have a hard time believing that this is due to a x64 bit problem as Apple has used this technology longer than most. Is this an issue with the latest iTunes? I am going to fuss with it some more but I'm very frustrated that I can bearly use the new iPod I bought. Any suggestions from Apple users as well as Dark Side (*vista or windows in general :)*) users would be awesome.

  • I cannot play .avi movies in iMovie - any advice?

Hi, I cannot play or import any of my .avi movies from my camera to imovie. I can play them in iPhoto and using Quicktime, is there any way I can edit them using iMovie? My digital camera only records in .avi. Can anyone help

I cannot play or import any of my .avi movies from my camera to imovie.
Your audio and/or video compression format on these files is not import/edit compatible with iMovie '08. onvert it as needed. Casio digital cameras, for instance, produce an AVI file container with MJPEG video which is compatible with iMovie '08 and a DVI ADPCM audio track which is not.
I can play them in iPhoto and using Quicktime,
Files can be "playback" only compatible with QT applications, "conversion" compatible (i.e. they play and convert but cannot be edited), or "fully" compatible -- i.e., they playback, convert, and can be edited in their "native" compression format.
is there any way I can edit them using iMovie?
AVI files can be edited in iMovie '08 as long as the offending track(s) can be converted properly to a compatible format.

  • Videos Imported from iPhoto Cannot Play in Photos

    Hello,
I just upgraded to Photos and accepted the default setting to convert my iPhoto library to Photos/iCloud format.  All went fine without errors and I see that Photos created an entire duplicate on the iPhoto library.
The problem is I cannot play any videos in Photos that came from iPhoto.  I get a dialog message indicating "Cannot Play File,  Photos cannot play this video. Do you want to try opening it in QuickTime Player?"   Similarly, Quicktime Player reports it cannot play the file and prompts "To see if additional software is available that will enable QuickTime Player to open the movie, click Tell Me More."
The videos where imported to iPhoto from my iPhone 6.  There does not seem to be a difference between standard video or slow motion video files.
    My software versions are;
    Mac OS X: 10.10.3 (14D136)
    iPhotos: 9.6.1 (910.42)
    Photos: 1.0 (209.52.0)
    iPhone 6 IOS: 8.3 (12F70)
According to the App Store, my system is fully up dated.  How can I restore the videos to work in Photos?  Is there another method for importing the iPhoto library into Photos?
    Thank you,
    Jeff

Thanks for that. Good to know.
Just to add my own two cents to this thread—I have also experienced problems with video files. These fall into two categories:
Videos that were imported as thumbnails only ("Photos cannot play this video because it cannot find the file"). These all seem to be AVI files. I can locate these files in my old iPhoto library, but when I try to import them into Photos, it tells me that this type of file cannot be imported. No error message of any kind was shown during the migration. (This is not at all helpful.)
Videos that were imported, but that won't play in Photos. Photos gives me the option to open them in QuickTime. Depending on the file type, QuickTime does one of two things: (1) Converts it to a format that it can play (which takes ages, and if I save the file, I lose the metadata) Or (2) tells me it can't play it.
There also seem to be files that were converted during the migration. The originals in the iPhoto library are MPG files, while the ones in Photos are MOV files. But they won't play in Photos, and they can only be opened in QuickTime after conversion (within QuickTime).
I've also encountered videos that were shot on an iPhone 4S that won't play in Photos. Not sure what's up with that.
It's important to note that THESE WERE ALL VIDEOS THAT PLAYED JUST FINE IN IPHOTO.
So now I have to go over all my video files (4600 of them) and figure out which ones are problematic (600 AVIs for sure, unknown number of MPGs and MOVs), convert them with Handbrake, import the converted files into Photos, and then manually fix the metadata (date and time, location doesn't bother me so much).
If anyone has any tips that will either spare me this long and tedious process or speed it up somehow, I'm all ears.
Don't get me wrong—I think that Photos is overall waaaaaay better than iPhoto (it's actually usable—I don't have to suffer the spinning beachball for 3/4 of the time it is open). But the migration process is really sub-par. If you're going to just not import a whole bunch of files, at least tell me so I can do something about it.

  • Cannot play songs/videos I purchased in iTunes store

All of a sudden I cannot play songs from the iTunes Store anymore. I buy it, download it, it appears in the list but it won´t play. Trying to convert to AAC gives me error code -208.
I have 4 out of five computers activated.
When I click on a song, it´s title and duration appears on top of the iTunes window but nothing happens then. When I buy a song on my other Mac and move it to my first one it plays with QuickTime. Once imported to iTunes it does not play anymore.
I reinstalled iTunes again - no difference.
All the movies I had within iTunes before and which are still in the folder iTunesMusic/Movies don´t play anymore. They just do nothing. I cannot re-import them into iTunes. Open with iTunes just shows no reaction at all.
Same with some of the songs that played perfectly well before.
Movies create a error message about an invalid public atom and do not play with e.g. Quick Time.
    Any idea?

  • Cannot play videos in iPhoto since SL upgrade

Since I upgraded to SL, it appears that I cannot play videos that I have loaded to iPhoto. I go into an event in iPhoto in which I have some digital camera videos and they do not play. These used to open in QuickTime and run fine. When I click on the video and choose "Show File", it will show me where the file lives. These are fine on my computer and can now run them from here, but it used to work right in iPhoto. Has anybody had this happen to them? Is it a bug with SL or is there a new setting or something I am missing? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Yes, it's a bug. Have you applied the Mac OS X v10.6.1 Update? If not do so and try again. If that doesn't work all we can do is report the problem to Apple via http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphoto.html.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • "Cannot play video with this frame rate&qu

For reasons that aren't important here I cannot use the Zen video converting software. Instead, I've been using the trial version of the Caniusoft Video to Creative Zen converter. Only once has a video played, but as soon as I closed the video and opened it up again this message appeared. "Cannot play video with this frame rate." Daniusoft offers frame rates from 5 fps to 30. I've tried all of them and none of them work. Has this been a problem for others? Perhaps I need a different converter?
    ps.
..i'm converting flash video to avi. Does that make a difference?

I can't answer your question in full (maybe somebody else can). However, I am aware that both the Zen and the Zen X-Fi can only play video files up to 320x240 resolution. Previous players like the Vision M were able to scale files down to this resolution on the fly, but not these two newer players.
