I found the same issue... I can play other movies but no purchased ones. I can get the sound but the picture is scrambled. Does anyone know how to uninstall and reinstall iTunes? maybe that will work.

Safari cannot play a movie from Apple's site

Hi All,
I was actually quite a bit surpriesed that Safari cannot play a movie from the Apple's web-site itself...! It is nothing special - just the 4S TV add with Santa Clause. The same link is working fine with Chrome.
Any ideas? I guess it is some sort of Preferences settings?

Might be a Safari extension preventing the video from loading.
Go to your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab.
If youi have any installed, turn that off, quit then relaunch Safari to test.

Welcome to the Apple Community.
HDCP is copy protection built into iTunes video content, the Apple TV requires all devices to be HDCP compatible before it will send HDCP content to them. In simplistic terms the Apple TV asks the TV if the signal it will send can be recorded, if it gets the right answer it will send the signal, if it doesn't receive a reply it won't.
Your problem may be one of unsupported equipment or may simply be an error. You could start by checking if your TV is HDCP compliant. If it is the problem might be cabling or another device (such as a receiver) between the Apple TV and TV, it may also just be a glitch which might be resolved by a simple restart.

Did you use iTunes on your computer, or iTunes on your iPad? If you rented it on your computer, you need to transfer it from there to your iPad. Plug in the iPad, select it in iTunes, and select the Movies tab. A Rented Movies section should appear.

We rented four movies. We successfully played one. Then we deleted one because we saw it on the plane. Neither of the two movies left will play. I press the play button, the info window says it's accessing the iTunes store, the scrubber bar appears, and nothing else happens. No viewer window pops up, the time counter remains at zero, and the play button reverts to the play symbol (not the pause symbol). No luck with iTunes support yet.

My ipad 2 - I downloaded a rented movie and I can't find it anywhere. I went to my itunes account and it showed I rented it. So then I purchased a song and it showed up so I rented another movie for 99 cents and it didn't show up. Do I need to do anything with my settings - or do I need to download a certain app. I am frustrated with it and might just use Netflix.

Renting movies from i-Tunes

When I try to rent a movie on i-Tunes I keep getting a message that states "verification of payment information required". When I go into my account with i-Tunes everything is ok except the security code for my credit card is missing. Everytime I enter the security code and leave the apple web site and come back to check the account again, it is missing. I am assuming this may be the reason why I can't rent a movie. I can't figure out what to do.

There must be tens of thousands of frequent US business travellers who use laptops etc to buy content from the US store when off on business jaunts etc - these people would soon get peeveed with not being able to access their iTunes account and turn their backs on Apple.
There have been a few posts from US servicemen based abroad using iTunes rentals - is a military base sovereign territory in the same sense as an embassy?
Frankly the sooner all his cross border pricing discrepancy and regional content differences ends the better for everyone.
Some kids cartoons in the UK iTunes store seem to cost 300% or more of what they do in the US store which is quite crazy. Most people will simply buy and rip the cheaper DVD when prices are so inflated, it's Apple mainly who lose out as the movie companies still gte their pound of flesh from the DVD sale. Again no surprise so many people just download illegally. Price things fairly and people will buy them - for many new additions at the UK iTunes store most of the customer reviews are simply saying they won't buy at ridiculous prices!

Cannot play rented movie on my macbook

I rented a movie, downloaded it and now when I try to play the movie I get only a black screen with no movie. The chapter stills are visible.

I believe I've answered my questions, thanks to some discussions I found here.
1. Although I can watch the movie I rented immediately on my MacBook Pro, I must wait (maybe an hour or more) before I can watch it on my Apple TV. I have no idea why that's the case and it's unfortunate, but apparently that's why I cannot find the rental on my Apple TV.
2. The rental will (apparently) eventually show up in the top shelf, not under "Movies," but under "Computers," where a category called "Rentals" will magically appear (it currently does not exist).
Comment: neither of these facts is particularly obvious or intuitive. Apple's FAQ should spell this out.

I downloaded "A Mighty Heart" over the course of about 30 minutes from my temporary location in Australia, but accessing the I-Tunes store as I would from the US. The movie downloaded after I offered my credit card, but then wouldn't play. It accesses I Tunes Store, moves to Chapter 1 (and all chapters are listed), but won't play. I am, however, able to play other ITunes video content. Any thoughts?
