I cannot restore my iPad after I have downloaded iOS 5

If I click on update it will say that my device isn't eligible for the requested build
and if I click on restore it says it has to restore and update, so I click on restore and update it ends up saying the same, that it isn't eligible for the requested build.

The same thing has happened to me. What did you do to fix it? I synced all my new apps before i did the update and I can't find the last backup on my system anywhere.

Try and force iPad into Recovery Mode
1. Disconnect the USB cable from the device, but leave the other end of the cable connected to your computer's USB port.
2. Turn off the device: Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button for a few seconds until the red slider appears, then slide the slider. Wait for the device to turn off.
3.While pressing and holding the Home button, reconnect the USB cable to the device. The device should turn on.
4. Continue holding the Home button until you see the "Connect to iTunes" screen. When this screen appears, release the Home button. iTunes should alert you that it has detected a device in recovery mode. Click OK, and then click Restore to restore the device.
Note: Data will be lost. You may have to repeat the above many times.

The problem is that most of the time the error 1 is generally a hardware error. However, follow the instructions in the support document and you may get by.

Quit the game and restart the iPad.
To quit the game - Go to the home screen first by tapping the home button. Quit/close open apps by double tapping the home button and the task bar will appear with all of you recent/open apps displayed at the bottom. Tap and hold down on any app icon until it begins to wiggle. Tap the minus sign in the upper left corner to close the apps. Restart the iPad. Restart the iPad by holding down on the sleep button until the red slider appears and then slide to shut off. To power up hold the sleep button until the Apple logo appears and let go of the button.
If that doesn't work try this.
Reset the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider - let go of the buttons.

Sometimes it is fruitless to try to "fix" a broken account on an iOS device. I would delete the account on both devices and then configure the account again from scratch.

Just completed another restore. iTunes says the the iPad has been restored and will restart automatically and appear in iTunes when it is ready. That was 30 minutes ago. iPad still won't start. I am looking down the barrel of yet another fruitless restore. What a crap product.

Try a reset:
Hold the Sleep and Home button down until you see the Apple logo.

I have the same problem. Something happened during the download and froze iTunes. After spending three days searching these forums with the dead iPad, the only thing I got to work was to try downloading iOS 5 using my sons computer. This worked. However I cannot now get my computer's iTunes to sync with my iPad.. It contains the same error message (1602) and has the same problem as before. It is not an antivirus problem. I can't upgrade from IOS 6.0.1 to IOS 7.1.1 on my iPad 2. iPad says it has downloaded IOS 7.0.3 but cannot verify the installation if I try and install it. It claims that I have lost internet connection, which I have not. I cannot restore or update the iPad in iTunes either, if I try to, I get an error message which says that I 'do not have permission to access the requested resource'. I am using the latest version of iTunes on Windows 8. I have tried putting the iPad in recovery mode and restoring it with iTunes, the result is the same.

Before restoring:
Verify that you are using the latest version of iTunes.
Back up your device.
Transfer and sync content to your computer.
Restoring your iOS device
Connect your device to your computer.
Select your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch when it appears in iTunes. Select the Summary tab, and click the Restore button.
Click Restore.
After a restore, the iOS device restarts. You should then see "Slide to set up". Follow the steps in the iOS Setup Assistant.
If needed, restore your device from a previous backup.
