Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! It is a great place to find answers and information!
For you to have the best experience in the HP forum I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide. Learn How to Post and More i understand that your notebook finds and displays many network but not yours but another laptop does locate it. One of the easiest steps to try is to reset the router by removing power for approximately 20 seconds and then reconnecting the power.  Give the router time to reset and come back up .  Does you network now show? If your network is set to 5.0 GHz try changing the setting to mixed mode or 2.4 GHz as that is the best selection for HP notebooks. Here is a link to HP PCs - Troubleshooting Wireless Network and Internet (Windows 8).  To say thanks for replying, please click the thumbs up icon below. If this overcame your difficulty please tell people by selecting solution provided to allow it to found with greater ease.  Best of Luck!

  • Can see the wifi network but can't connect to the internet

    Hi all!
I've begun using a new ISP a few days ago, and while my desktop pc works just fine (ethernet), I seemed not to be able to connect to internet with my mac (either ethernet or wifi) even if I could see the wireless network. I thought it was an issue with the ISP and not with my mac, until last night when I tested it at a friend's house and bling..I couldn't connect there either!
All seetings seem fine both for ethernet and airport. Today I've verified and repaired disk and permissions. I've also created a location specifically for this network (while I've always used automatic before) since the ISP suggested to do so.
I've been able to use the internet, both wifi and ethernet, until literally two days ago on all sorts of different wifi networks.
    Any ideas folks?
    Thanks,
    D

Hi! It's been a while but here's the latest update on the case.
(And yeah,I've been struggling until today to find a solution...Danny's personal advice: don't move to Italy if you don't wanna get lost in a Customer Service nightmare...)
Anyhow, it turned out to be as simple as this:
    1) Create a location dedicated to the home network.
    2) Insert PPPoE user name and password given by ISP.
    3) Connect.
    4) Browse wirelessly.
...I feel a little dumb overlooking this option....but, I still have some doubts reg the procedure.
Why did I have to create a dedicated location?
Why do I have to use PPPoE rather than DHCP?
    Thanks mate,
    D

    3. Microsoft router MN-500:
Tried this old router (the one I used before purchasing the LinkSys). It is an old (circa 2002) Wireless B base station with WEP Security. The iPhone was never able to connect to the Internet using various settings, many of which were duplicates of the LinkSys tests above.
On both routers my wife's Dell laptop and my HP printer connect without incident, using the same network/security settings.
I have always been able to connect to various unsecured WiFi networks; I have never been able to connect to a secure WiFi network (although the only one I've really tried has been my own).
I am at a loss as to what to do next. Any suggestions?

    SUCCESS!!!!!
I visited my brother-in-law yesterday and attempted to connect with his secure network. By sheer luck, he is using the exact same model LinkSys router. My iPhone connected first time--so the iPhone was eliminated as a source of the problem.
I didn't do a lot of troubleshooting at his house, but I did notice that his network was set for both dynamic DHCP and dynamic DNS. I know that either or both of Windstream (my ISP) and my broadband modem requires a pair of static DNS addresses.
Sure enough, delving real deep into Windstream's support site, I discovered a LinkSys router DNS help page, specifying how to set static DNS addresses in LinkSys routers. I then accessed my router, enterd the known static addresses, saved the router settings, then rebooted the iPhone and connected to the network.
    SUCCESS!!!
Thanks to Jane, who suggested it was an ISP issue, Jason, and all at Apple support. dumonj, I'll email you directly. Try this suggestion and see if it helps.

  • Says I am connecte to a wifi network but can't access anything on Safari or open any apps. Help!!!

For the past few weeks since I have updated to ios 6 I am not able to open any apps (Facebook, Twitter, App Store, Instagram) and my Safari will not open any pages. It loads and loads then a message shows up saying "Safari could no open the webpage becuase the  server stopped responding." I have tried everything including Resetting the Network as well as a full reset of my ipad (done at the apple store). I am still having the same issues. If someone could please help me with this as this is getting extremely frustrating! My Iphone 4 is having the same issue as well. But when it comes to WIFI at other locations it seems to be fine, only at home is where I am having this issue.

I just bought a new wireless router/modem from my internet provide (Shaw) and I'm still having the same issue. My laptop is working fine. It's only the iphone 4 and ipad 2 I'm having issues with.

  • I have a symbol by the battery, it looks like a phone with dots underneath it, what is this and how do i fix it? Since this came up, I can find wifi networks, but can't connect to them..

Anyone know how to fix this?

This may be the TTY symbol. Go to Settings > Phone and disable TTY.

my mini is connected to the wifi network, but is not able to connect to the working internet... can anybody help, please?

192 is local address within your network.
Unless the adddress is of a server that can reolve URL names to ip addresses you wont be able to load an external web page.
You can check what it should be by checking your router status page.
Or if you have an iOS device check under settings, W-Fi, select the network your attched to, then see what is next to DNS.

My Mac wont connect to my WiFi.  It can see the network but has an "!" over the WiFi signal. My iPhone and Surface connect fine.  My Mac was working fine yesterday.  I've restarted the rooter, the Mac and still not luck.  I've changed the WiFi channel, removed and re-added the WiFi network, but I still can't connect. Please can someone help.... thank you !

    Power Cycle
Power off the router. Unplug it from the wall. Wait a while.
Plug it back to the wall. Power the router on. Wait until all the lights are lit properly. It will take a while.
    Restart the computer.
    Start up in Safe Mode.

I'm not sure what you mean. You can't find the express to set it up.. or you can't find the network created by the express?

The iPhone is working, as designed and advertised.  In this case, the user failed to educate themselves properly, either by proper research or asking the right questions, before purchasing the device.
I understand that the OP failed to do research. But then, I wasn't replying to the OP. I was replying to Chris. I have Verizon. I can talk and use data at the same time with my Droid Maxx. Therefore, the problem is not just with the network. It would be technically possible for an iPhone to do that on Verizon/Sprint if Apple had chosen to use a different chip, such as the kind other phone manufacturers have elected to use.
Of course, this is probably all irrelevant to the OP's issue. It was merely a point of clarification, especially for those people who are used to being able to use both voice and data at the same time on Verizon. When they switch to an iPhone, they are often surprized at the limitation.
    Best of luck.

  • My Apple Tv is connecting to the Wifi network but is not connect to the internet.  So when I look for it on my Airplay it doesn't come up.  I have 3 other ones already working on the network and they are all fine.

My apple TV is finding and connecting to the Wifi network but then says it is not connected to the internet and then I cannot find it on the iPad through airplay.  I don't want it connected to the internet (as in www.) because for the use I have I only need to use the Apple tvs locally in a sports hall as scoreboards.  I have 3 others working on the same router and they are working fine (as of yesterday)
On my screen I see (obviously not written like this)
    network connect- yes
    signal strength- fine
    Ip address- fine
    DCN- fine
    Activation- Failed
This is the only negative I can find and the statement that the Apple TV has connected to the wifi but is not connected to the internet.
Where has it gone wrong for me. Please help

It is not properly connected to the network.
Make sure location is set correctly
DNS should be on auto (settings - general - network)
    Try ethernet
Signal strength on device won't account for issues, you would need a network report from istumbler, netstumbler or similar. This will show accurate signal strength along with noise and nearby networks

  • Tried everything to fix my A-TV problem reading Wifi network; Where can I check if my Apple TV is eligible for replacement?

I have a 3rd generation Apple TV that I am convinced to be one of the defective ones which Apple is replacing since they will not read a Wifi network (more on this below). I live in a very remote country at the moment as well so going to an Apple Store is not an option. I would like to try and get this replaced but it seems the only way I can talk to someone at Apple is to buy a one-time service plan for $19.99. Does anyone know if I can confirm in some other way that my Apple TV is indeed defective and initiate the replacement process? (or to confirm that it is not covered and that my problem is elsewhere). I've seen some screenshots with serial numbers that are covered but I don't see on those threads how to request the replacement.
To ensure my Apple TV is indeed defective I have followed all the guidance in dozens of threads on this forum including: (1) reset, restored, and restarted Apple TV dozens of times (2) updated Apple TV software via a USB connection to iTunes (3) ensured my home network has disabled MAC filtering (4) updated my router's firmware (5) ensured iPhone, iPad, other devices can connect the the wireless network which my Apple TV can not see (6) tried different chanels (frequencies on my wifi router) and turned off all other devices that may cause interference (7) tried disabling security on my wifi router (8) tried setting up my home wifi directly from a wifi router and then using my standard set-up which is router to time capsule and TC generating the wifi network. Despite all these efforts, my Apple TV can not see a single wifi network (and (9) using "other" to manually enter the network also doesn't work). The A-TV works fine with a cable connection. This leads me to believe I have a defective Apple TV. Any other repair suggestions are welcome!
For reference, my SN is C1MHCRT9DRHN

I tried, but they want to charge me $19.99 to ask this simple question... And there doesn't seem to be any email address where I can ask by email.

  • Device is connected to to a wifi network but does not have access to Blackberry services over wifi connection

please help me, my blackberry curve has been working perfectly fine (everything network and wifi connection are working great) since i got it but all of the sudden when i connect to our wifi at home i noticed that the wifi logo on the upper screen is grayed out. i checked the manual and it says: device is connected to to a wifi network but does not have access to Blackberry services over wifi connection. i dont  know what to do, i tried the hard reset (removed batt for 1 min while phone is on and put it back in) i also tried to remove the wifi profile and added it back up but still nothing seems to work, my service provider has BB services available on my phone, i can received BBM, pushed email, use FB on my phone using my network but i cant use my wifi to browse.. what should i do? help me please!

With a PC, the Windows Firewall and/or the anti-virus software will sometimes block an attempted Internet connection.
Check both applications to see if you can find a "blocked" item and then take steps to "allow" the connection.
If still no luck, temporarily disable the wireless security for a short period to see if the PC can connect that way. If it can.....then you know it is security related issue.
See if the PC can connect using a setting like WPA-PSK-TKIP. The equivalent Apple setting would be WPA/WPA2 Personal.

  • IPhone 4s with ios 6 shows full wifi signal but can't access to the internet while other idevice can

    Hi everyone,
I updated my iphone 4s to ios 6 a few months ago and there was no problem until I change my sim card to other carriers last two days.  This second sim card is the same sim card that I used it earlier this year with no problem.  But the problem I face is when my iphone goes to sleep mode I realised that I can't receive any push notification from imessage, Whatsapp, and Line.  When the phone is awake the wifi signal is back and I have to go to each application in order to get the message.  I have tried the following methods but it didn't work: reset all network settings, restore as new iphone, push home and power button together, switch off my iphone, turn on airplane mode, and even change my router.  At the moment I have restored my iphone as new for the 5th times.
Now the problem is worsen, after the phone is sleep for about 5 minutes and when I awake my iphone it shows the wifi signal.  But I can't access to the internet at all.  It shows no working internet on Whatsapp. Safari can't load any web page, the weather app can't update temperature etc.  I have to switch off and switch on wifi in setting menu so that I can use the internet. And when I leave my iphone four about 5 - 10 minuetes then the problem start again. While I can't access to the internet on my iphone 4s, I used my dad's iphone 4s with ios 5.0.1 and it works just fine with the internet. My laptop can also access to the internet with the same wifi network but not my iphone.
Does anybody know what's going on with my iphone 4s? Is it the bug from IOS 6 or my iphone is broken? Please help me.
    Thank you.

Any update will cause problems for a few users. And those users will rush here and post "the sky is falling" stories about their experience. The 99.99% of people who have no problems after an update won't bother to post here; indeed, most of them don't even know ASC exists. FWIW, I had no problems with iOS 7 on my 4S. Your problem is most likely not related to iOS 6, but you should probably update anyway. • HT3867 I am connected to the hotel wifi network, but the login screen does not appear.

    Hi,
I am connected to my hotel wifi network, but the login screen does not appear. I am able to access the login page on my PC, but on the iPhone it does not appear and just tries to connect to the webpage (e.g. google.co.uk), and eventually gives up. I've tried opening pages in Safari and Chrome, but none cause the login screen to appear. I have also tried trying to log into the login page that the PC opens when connected to the wifi, but the same thing happens. I am using a iPhone 3G with the latest iOS version 6.0.1.
Is there a way to make the iPhone try to open the login page?
    Ben.

I have the exact same problem as the original poster and I tried many times already the solution proposed by trstark66 and it's still not working. It's not working for both my iPad and iPhone 5. I'm using the latest iOS version available all the time. I have my iPad since 3 years and my iPhone since 1 years and I always had that problem. I'm an airline pilot so I'm always in hotels. I asked my colleagues who also have iPhones and iPads and they all have the same problems from time to time. And when I go in an apple store they all say that it's the first time they hear about that problem. I never have that problem with my PCs, my previous phone and my BB playbook. Only with my iPhone and iPad....since now 3 years...Always the same problem. I'm connected to the Hotel Network, I have an IP address but nothing popup to register with a user name, password or just to access the "I have read and accept the condition.../connect". And when I go in Safari or other Browsers, I am not redirected to a login page. All I have is a message saying cannot access the webpage because I'm not connected to Internet. I tried already hard resets, on/off Wi-Fi, automatic connexion off, forget this network, reset network setting...
My solution for now is to use my Boingo account. I connect to the hotel Network and then I use the Boingo app to connect to Internet.
But, sometimes it works the first time or suddenly for no reason.
Very funny, I was using Boingo on my ipad to write this message in my Hotel room because I was unable to use my free connection as usual. When I tried to press "Add Reply" it failed and I had the message "An error occured while trying to submit your post, please try again". The reason was that boingo was disconnected since I was taking too long to write this message. So I wasn't connected to Internet anymore. I opened a second tab in Safari and what did I see!... the login page to access the free connection from the hotel. This is crazy. Apple, you really suck with hotel/coffee hotspots... I tried for hours and nothing, now hours later I just open a new tab and it works. But tomorrow I know I will try the same and it will not work again. It shouldn't be that complicated.
