I cannot select a single character

I'm running Pages 5.2.2 on MacOS 10.9.4 on a 2011 MacBook Pro. The problem is I cannot select a single character with my Magic Mouse. If I try to drag over a single letter to select it, the cursor is positioned either before or after the letter. I can select and format groups of two or more characters, but not just one. It works with the trackpad though. I can select single characters with the mouse in other apps such as Word.

While we all have MacBooks in this forum most of us don’t run Mountain Lion. There's a Mountain Lion Support Community where everybody has Mountain Lion. How to select a single day from month view

From my ipad on IOS7 I can not select a single day from the month view? From the old versions all I had to do was double click a single date even if it had multiple appointments in it to view it. Was this feature removed? Please help

It appears to me as though it has indeed been removed. You can tap and hold down on a day while in month view to create or view an event, but you cannot tap on the day to open the whole day's events.

Cannot select and move in mountain lion

I am running 10.8.4 on an early 2009 15'' MBP, and I have been having issues where I cannot select an object (file or folder) and move it. This is affecting my other programs, for example, i find that I cannot select and move cursor in Maya.
Not sure why, has anyone seen this before? and can I fix it somehow? I tried restarting my computer multiple times but the problem presists.

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It won’t solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
Third-party system modifications are a common cause of usability problems. By a “system modification,” I mean software that affects the operation of other software — potentially for the worse. The following procedure will help identify which such modifications you've installed. Don’t be alarmed by the complexity of these instructions — they’re easy to carry out and won’t change anything on your Mac.
These steps are to be taken while booted in “normal” mode, not in safe mode. If you’re now running in safe mode, reboot as usual before continuing.
Below are instructions to enter some UNIX shell commands. The commands are harmless, but they must be entered exactly as given in order to work. If you have doubts about the safety of the procedure suggested here, search this site for other discussions in which it’s been followed without any report of ill effects.
Some of the commands will line-wrap or scroll in your browser, but each one is really just a single line, all of which must be selected. You can accomplish this easily by triple-clicking anywhere in the line. The whole line will highlight, and you can then copy it. The headings “Step 1” and so on are not part of the commands.
Note: If you have more than one user account, Step 2 must be taken as an administrator. Ordinarily that would be the user created automatically when you booted the system for the first time. The other steps should be taken as the user who has the problem, if different. Most personal Macs have only one user, and in that case this paragraph doesn’t apply.
Launch the Terminal application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Terminal in the icon grid.

This time you'll be prompted for your login password, which you do have to type. Nothing will be displayed when you type it. Type it carefully and then press return. You may get a one-time warning to be careful. Heed that warning, but don't post it. If you see a message that your username "is not in the sudoers file," then you're not logged in as an administrator.
Note: If you don’t have a login password, you’ll need to set one before taking this step. If that’s not possible, skip to the next step.
Step 3

Remember, steps 1-5 are all copy-and-paste — no typing, except your password. Also remember to post the output.
You can then quit Terminal.

How to copy a single character on a Q10?

Hello forum,
To copy text on my Q10 one needs to select a text and tap on it for a few seconds in order to get the copy icon available. However, when I want to copy a single character it doens't work because the OS thinks I'm hitting the balloon/arrow either in front or behind the selected character.
Since there are no keyboard shortcuts for copy-pasting in OS10 I wonder how I should get this done (and I mean, just straight forward copying a single character, not a workaround)

Cannot select last delegated resource in Firefox in webcal

Note: I've already solved this issue, but figured other people might benefit as well.
Scope
This problem deals exclusively with WebCal, a service of Apple Lion Server. It is a component of iCal, a service of the Lion Server. When iCal is enabled, it creates a website application in Apache under the location: /webcal.
Problem
This problem appears to only exist in Firefox (only tested on version 7.0.1), users cannot select the last resource/location principal in the drop down at the top of the webcal (/webcal). Chrome and Safari did not exhibit this issue. In Firefox, the last element appended to the select tag is automatically selected, thus, the javascript code selecting the correct entry, which appears before the last append, is rendered useless.
No only that, but the last entry is never selectable, as the DOM already indicates that that element is selected and thus the "change" event never triggers.
This does NOT refer to calendar selection once you're in a resource. This is about resource selection. This is at the top of the web page, centered and always prefaced with "Calendar for " followed by the delegated principal Full Name
Solution
Update the javascript to select the current calendar after the last element is appended to the select element, but before the change event is listened to. The javascript file affected/udpated is located at:
/usr/share/collabd/coreclient/public/javascripts/calendar/calaccess.js
on your Lion Server. Changes start around line 1285.

Glad it worked for you. It took me about a day to figure out.
I've not had issues with delegates. But I've had to use the command-line instead of the GUI as I've needed multiple people as delegates for certain resources (like public calendars with single writers).
We've had issues with time zones reverting to Pacific, though.

Cannot select elements on page unless on the specific layer

I'm having a very strange problem in Fireworks CS5. I cannot select an element on my page unless I go and find the appropriate layer and select that layer. Only then will the elements in that layer be available for selection.
I looked through the preferences and there's no option to turn this on. It's terribly disruptive to my workflow. Does anyone have this issue or know how I can fix it?

Sounds like a case of Single Edit Mode.
From the Layers Panel, to the far right, click the panel properties icon. From the panel context properties list make sure Single Layer Editing is toggled off.

How do I delete or edit a captured text layer that contains a single character in Cp 5?

My captured text layer contains a single character '7'. This renders immediately when I publish the movie, but I don't get any options when I try to edit the layer by right-clicking on it.

Welcome on the forum.
Since you are talking about 'capture', I presume you are pointing to a Typing object? You cannot edit this right away. Depending on what you want to realize, could propose two workarounds:
If you only want to show something typing (demonstration - but another text than your character), replace the Typing object by a Text Animation (right-click menu), you'll be able to edit it.
If you want the user to type in a text, delete the Typing object and replace it by a Text Entry Box.

Cannot select Transactions in Print Invoices

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me with a problem we are facing when trying to Print Selected Invoices in AR.
We have transactions created with print statuses set to PRINT. However, when we navigate to Print Documents > Invoices > and select Single Request for Invoice Print Selected Invoices....we cannot select Transaction Number Low or High....the message we get is "No entries found for List Of Values"
On metalink, it mentions that setting the print option to PRINT will make the transactions available for selection but this is not the case in our situation, as all our transactions are set to Print.
For info, the version of Oracle is 12.0.6

APP-SQLAP-10380: You cannot select this payment document

User did a quick payment. When the check failed to print user voided the check and tried to reprint. Now when the user is trying to reissue the check they are getting the following: APP-SQLAP-10380: You cannot select this payment document because it is in use by another payment batch.
I went through Metalink and found this article: R11i: Quick Payment For EFT Payments Will Not Release The Document To Pay Other Invoices [ID 158828.1]
A query in the metalink article stated that "If this query returns rows then contact oracle support for a data fix."
The query did return rows. However, this is rather urgent and I am unsure as to when Oracle Support will get back to me. I made a Sev 2 SR for this. I was wondering if there was any front end things I could do to clear this payment batch so I could reissue a check?
Any help would be appreciated.

Textarea - create String that acts like a single character

Hi guys,
I am trying to create a string in a textarea that acts like a single character. By this, I mean that the user cannot edit the contents of that section of text. Here's an example:
Textarea text:
[Number of Iterations] * 35 / 200
I want the [Number of Iterations] to be read-only. In addition, if the user tries to delete the beginning or end of [Number of Iterations], the whole thing is deleted. If possible, I would like cursor operations to treat it like a single character as well (i.e. to go from |[Number of Iterations] to [Number of Iterations]| takes a single right button press).
Some commercial applications like Microsoft Word do this with Automatically created text in documents (like page numbers and date stamps) and I was wondering if I could do the same thing using a Textarea.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A JTextPane allows you to add components to the text pane. So you might be able to create a JLabel with your desired text and insert the label into the text pane.

Replace multiple characters to single character

Hi friends,
I would like to replace multiple characters in a string to a single character. The character may be a pipe (|) or a tilde (~).
For example "|||asdf||123|xyz||" should be changed to "asdf|123|xyz".

How do I find & replace a single character?

Am using Adobe Acrobat Pro....
The find/replace box pull down has "Whole Words Only" checked and I cannot uncheck it. How can I find and replace a single character throughout a document?

That's just how it works. You can "find" anything, but you can only "replace" whole words. As soon as you click to open the "replace" section of the dialog the search settings are locked into their basic states, even if you don't enter a replacement string (but that part's a bug).
The simple answer is that you cannot replace all instances of one character using Acrobat's inbuilt tools. You're expected to edit the document outside of PDF and recreate it.

Solved: ORA-20001: get_dbms_sql_cursor error ORA-01445: cannot select ROWID

I got an error, googled it and couldn't find a good answer. Joe Fuda helped me to fix the problem. Here is the answer for future google results.
Error:
ORA-20001: get_dbms_sql_cursor error ORA-01445: cannot select ROWID from, or sample, a join view without a key-preserved table
Query that triggered the error:
SELECT
p.rowid

This is casued by the keyword "rowid".
The same error occurs if 'p.rowid' is replaced with 'p."ROWID"'.
You can replicate this error in SQL Command by adding wrapping the query with 'select * from ( [the query] )'
Fix:
Add an alias to 'p.rowid' so the query is now like:
SELECT
p.rowid product_rowid
, p.product_id
, p.product_type
Reason:
Unclear, it might have something to do with how APEX does pagination.
