I cannot shut down my Mac Book Pro

Lately whenever, I try to shut down my MBP (properly from the menu) the shut down process starts, until nothing is left but the wallpaper and then... nothing. Long minutes go by and the shut down is not complete.
I make sure to shut down all applications individually before attempting shut down of the OS.
In the end, I just hold down the power button. But this is not a one-time occurrence. This happens repeatedly.
I should point out that I have recently also experienced situations in which the machine heats up to 80, 90, even 100 degrees. I am not sure why. It might have something to do with the fact that I try to browse my Time Capsule and... nothing. The Finder window tells me it is trying to connect and never does. Maybe this leads to the heating. I'm not sure.
Either way, what should I do to try and pinpoint the source of the problem?
Thank you...

    Hey rudreshchoubey,
Thanks for the question. The following resource may help to resolve your issue:
Boot Camp Installation & Setup Guide

    If Windows doesn’t install properly
Verify that you’re using an original, full version of the 64-bit version of Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Professional, Windows 7 Ultimate, Windows 8, or Windows 8 Pro.
Restart your Mac and hold down the Option key until one or more disk icons appear on your screen. Insert the Windows installation disc into the optical drive or insert the USB flash drive with Windows into a USB port on your Mac. Select the Windows installation disk icon, then click the arrow beneath it. Quickly press any key on your keyboard to start the installer. Follow the onscreen instructions to repair or reinstall Windows.
    Thanks,

i'm downloading the OS X Mavericks then in the process of downloading till 4.20GB it stops and shut down my Mac Book Pro and automatically restarted. Any answers for this?

The download is over 5GB's so yours is incomplete.
You should be able to resume the download (instead of starting over) at the App Store.

No data is lost due to resetting the SMC.
But after i unplug the charger it suddently shut down again
The problem may be the adapter. Try here > Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters

  • HT3275 I encrypted my WD elements SE external hard drive with Time Machine and now everytime i enter my password it shuts downs my mac book pro. I contacted WD and they say its an issue with Time Machine?

    Any advice?

Hi, I tried your advice and it tells me the external drive is ok, and the ERASE section is grey, probably because I encrypted the disk!?!
Still the same issue: every time I enter my password to access the external hard drive, it restarts the macbook and I get a screen that says: the computer restarted because of a problem... so frustrating!
    Any other ideas?

  • Hi, i cannot shut down my mac, and there is several times lagging, hanging, and auto restart. what should I do ?

Hi, i cannot shut down my mac, and there is several times lagging, hanging, and auto restart. what should I do ?

Hold the power button till it shuts off (10 seconds or so)
    Then try a SMC reset:

Follow directions for a battery you should not remove yourself.
You can also try a pram reset, which has a link at the bottom of the page of the first link above.

  • Cannot use facetime with mac book pro since a few days, only via my iphone

For a couple of days now, I cannot make or receive facetime calls on my Mac Book Pro, I can only receive them via my Iphone5.
It always worked fine, I didn't cgange anything, any idea what the problem could be?

Delete the E-mail and add it again. It's Work!!!

  • Cannot sync exchange on Mac Book Pro yet on my itouch it works fine

I have sucessfully set up active sync on my itouch and down load, read and send emails when connected to a network. Bought a Mac Book Pro at the weekend and have failed to get mail to sync. exchange server is set to auto discover, has service pack 1 roll up 4. It comes back saying make sure the exchange server is set to auto service pack 1 roll up 4. Using connection doctor just gets a red dot and failed to connect. Doubt anyone can answer the problem but any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated.
It's just how come the itouch works and the Mac Book Pro does not? There is only one difference in terms of information input the Mac does not ask for a domain name.

Did autodiscover automatically populate your server info? The mail.app settings are different than the activesync settings on the itouch.
I happen to have the same setup and I could only connect with autodiscover setting things up. Before trying autodiscover, I manually changed the settings to match a co-workers settings but it didn't work.

  • Cannot access my CDROM: Mac book pro 8,1 - Intel Core i5 – 2.23 GHz (early 2011)

    Aloha & Happy New Year,
Was running (triple booted with rEFIT) MAC OSX, win7 (64) and Linux (BT5/64) all was well. At some point Win7 crashed, thus I began the reinstall process.
Problem one, reinstalled OSX with install CD without issue.  Then during the Q&A segment of fresh install vs.- use a backup copy option; I chose backup copy and somehow I ended up without the correct login pw. So now I cannot login. Nor can I reset using the Master or Firmware pw.  I have tried every imaginable pw.
Problem two, during the iphone /iOS 5 upgrade debacle (The "Encrypt iphone backup "PW issue") I lost amongst other vital info, my notes which contained a copy of my firmware and master pw.
The main issue, I cannot access or utilize my CDROM in order to reinstall or access the disk utility. It simply bypasses any CDROM straight to the login screen.
    I have attempted:
Restart HOLD-C, PRAM, NVRAM, Option key, restarting with WIN7, restarting with Linux, two different USB drives. Powered off, removed all cables. Opened up back panel, (grounded myself) removed power from logic board and re-connected all parts after several minutes.  The question, why is the CD bypassed each and every time? Mind you, this is not the first time I have faced the bypass of the CDROM, yet each time before I have somehow solved the issue. It is a mystery. As in other threads I have posted I do have an iMAC next to my MB Pro. I unseccusfully attempted to use the iMAC for assistance in accessing the mb pro.
    I AM AT A LOSS.

Yes, you royally hosed up your machine.
You should first try to get your files off, any way you can to a external drive.
Your going to need to hold c and boot from the disk that came with your computer and a couple of screens in under the menu is a option for Disk Utility.
Select your drive and Erase with Security Option Zero, format the drive HFS+ Journaled and when that's finished (about a hour or so) then quit and install OS X from the installer.
I hope this works, but I suspect it won't. Others have hosed their machines trying to use a Linux disk without proper partition formatting too.
Another option might be to use another Mac to c boot off the Snow Leopard disk and install OS X onto a external drive, take that to the problem Mac and try holding option and booting off of it to erase your internal drive.
    You could replace the drive.
    frederick s wrote:
The Option key brings me to the grey screen with a padlock.
Is this holding option while booting?
There was someone else around here who hosed their Mac with a Linux disk too. Try to find it.

  • I cannot open iPhoto in Mac book Pro

"You can't open the application iPhoto because the Classic environment is no longer supported."
    OS X 10.7.5
tried to open got the spinning cursor and then the icon got one of those international 'do not' cicles with the line through it.

First off Mac Pros and MacBook Pros are different machines (the former is a desktop, the latter a notebook), but that matters not for your question.   I'll request this thread get moved.  Secondly, iPhoto has a newer release which came with your MacBook Pro out of the factory.
Is your machine older than July 20, 2011?    If not, you'll probably have to restore the factory software after making a clone backup or buy iLife or iPhoto from the Mac App Store.    If it is older than July 20, 2011, there is an original installer disc that came with your computer, you should call AppleCare for, if you lost that includes a newer version of iPhoto than the Classic only compatible version as part of its restore application.   Classic is not compatible with any Mac newer than January 1, 2006.

  • Wi Fi slow down on Mac Book Pro

I have had excellent wireless service in my home for the past year.  I recently downloaded the most recent OSX 10.95 and the connection is incredibly slow.  I had ATT come to my home and they replaced the modem and this hasn't fixed the problem.  I am a novice.  Any suggestions please

The channels were assigned for 2.4GHz band when 11 Mbits/sec was as fast as anyone thought would be necessary. If you use 802.11n, there are at most three clear channels available (centered at 1, 6, and 11), and you have four networks visible. This frequency band also is used by baby monitors, microwave ovens, and bluetooth (but a different modulation technique).
RSSI of -41 is excellent for receive power. Transmit rate of 145Mbits/sec is really good for that band. You should not be having problems at that power and that transmit speed. But if you are not using Bluetooth, be sure to turn it off.
One way to make sure you do not have old settings being carried forward from old setups is to use:
    System preferences > Network > Wi-Fi > ( Assist me ) > ( Assistant ) ...
... to set it up again from scratch, including a new "Location" with a distinctive name that says "home" to you. You want to walk away from "Automatic" or anything you set up before and start fresh. After answering the questions, you may have to click (Apply) and wait a quarter minute for results. If no joy after that try a Restart.
If you go to Starbux and it does not work there, create a new "Location" just for there, and so on. Each basket of settings will be re-established when you choose a different "Location".

  • Brand new Mac Book Pro, just migrated, cannot log in

I bought a Mac Book Pro last night.  I follwed the set up, completed a migration from my Dell, finished the set up this morning.  Now I cannot login to the Mac Book Pro and the log in page has both an apple, and a Dell icon on it.  I've tried every password associated with both the Dell PC and my Itunes account.  Any ideas?  I do not know what operating system it is using as I cannot even log into the Mac Book Pro.

I did try no password.  The dell Icon is still there for some reason, at this point I'm glad that Apple phone support was able to help me.  I called them and they had me do a password reset by keying "Command" and "R" simulaneously during startup.  I still have no idea how the password got messed up in the first place.
