I cannot sign in to hotmail with firefox

Suddenly a couple of days ago I cannot sign in to hotmail from firefox as I have been doing for 2 yrs daily.
I cleared cookies and cache and the sign in fields appear but then it comes back as unable to sign in.
I also disabled all add-ons with the same result.
Hotmail works fine in IE

Hey all....I awkened at 12:35 am with a thought about what might be wrong and it's one thing I did not think to check. I went through all the blocked cookies. I went through 3 times and did not see anything Live, msn, hotmail etc that I had blocked but then I thought what the heck, and deleted everything, blocked or allowed.
Went back and tried to sign in and....it worked!
Now, I have no idea which blocked cookie it was because none were obvious to me and the ones that came up for approval to allow or not during sign-in all were live.com cookies.
Anyway, thanks a million for your help...I did learn a few things on this one from you all, so it was a good experience.
Best of all, I don't have to use IE anymore! :)

• Cannot sign in to hotmail after playing with and deleting cookies

Ever since i got Firefox 4 and 5 i've been encountering problems/challenges. A couple of days ago i deleted many cookies and then changed the cookies settings in the History in the Privacy tab in the Options.
Now i cannot sign in into my Hotmail account. I keep getting this message:
This site may be experiencing a problem
The site may not be a member of the Windows Live Network
You can:
You can sign in or sign up at other sites on the Windows Live Network, or try again later at this site.
I tried to change the accepting cookies setting ("Keep until") to: 'ask me every time' and then i almost could not stop a Facebook cookies warning. I changes 'Keep until' back to 'they expire'.
I have no problem signing in via IE from this same laptop.

To get iMessage and Facetime working you have to goto "settings > General> reset > erase all content and settings"
After iphone reboots go thru setup like a new phone but chose restore from iCloud backup. Choose "see all backups" and chose one before you installed ios7.
Usually iPhone backs itself up when locked and plugged into charger so there should be a few to choose from.
The phone doesn't have to be pluuged into iTunes for this but probably should be connected to charger.
Don't wait on Apple. They seem to think there is no problem.

• I cannot use Microsoft Hotmail with Firefox 3.6.24 and Windows 7. I click on an email but nothing happens. I did not have this problem with Windows Vista. Any solutions would be greatly appreciated.

The Windows 7 is on a new Dell Inspiron desktop. The Windows Vista is on a Dell Studio laptop that I have had for a while. The Hotmail also works fine on the new computer when I use IE9.

• I cannot open my Earthlink webmail with Firefox. I can with Internet Explorer. How can I use Firefox to open it again. That worked for years for me.

This started after I downloaded zotero. Could that be the problem? If so, how do I get rid of zotero?

Sorry, I can't help with Hotmail, beyond clearing the cache - I haven't used it for 11 or 12 years now. Surprising that a Firefox 3.6 version would have trouble there, as 3.6 has been around for well over a year and Hotmail problems are usually with a recent release of Firefox.
IMO, if Hotmail support can't help you with Firefox issues on their website and can only recommend using IE, maybe it's time to change web mail service providers. My advice is to signup with a different web mail service, one that takes Firefox seriously. Then set up forwarding in your Hotmail account to have all your Hotmail emails forwarded to that new account. Then slowly transition your email contacts over to the new email address over time. As long as you log in to Hotmail every month or two, your account there should stay active and emails sent there should get forwarded to the new email account. I have done that three times in the last decade, and the first one I transitioned from was still forwarding email thru the two intermediary accounts to my current account until last summer when that service finally changed owners and they wanted all new accounts set up or transitioned to their new software - which I didn't do - and I hadn't even signed into my account there in over 4 years and "forwarding" was still working.

• On my new imac I cannot sign onto Google maps in firefox but I can on Safari. What do I do? Bert

I have an igoogle account. I use it for the igoogle homepag and for gmail. They work fine. However, when I try to sign into google maps it always goes back to the sign in page. If I go to Safari I can log into Google maps just fine. There must be a setting in Firefox I need to change. I have done the "about:config" suggested in Firefox help but the settings are PK.

Mine is a similar problem with Firefox 3.6.18 on XP, service pack 3. Until a few days ago I could click on the Google Maps icon in the Google Tool Bar and I would be straight in. Now I am asked to sign in but this does not work.
I have found a work around but it is inconvenient. If I open Google Calendar from the tool bar, logged in straight away and then go to Account Settings - My Products and click on Maps I can then access My Places and do all I want with my maps. All other Google products that I use log straight in as does Google Maps in Windows IE8.

• Cannot open PDF files online with Firefox 4, help suggests foxit but don't know what that is?

Earlier versions of Firefox allowed me to open PDF files online, without downloading. Firefox 4 does not allow me to open and read PDF files online, but requires downloading to computer.
Help suggest altering settings in FOXIT READER, manually, but I don't know how to access Foxit reader, if I have it.
Can I alter settings in Firefox 4, or do I have to go back to earlier version.
Thanks

I was under the impression Foxit was a pdf viewer rather than an addon for Firefox, but maybe there is more than one application with a similar name.
I did not notice mention of foxit in the help, but add-ons are not always mentioned.

• Has anyone had an email virus using hotmail with firefox?

As soon as I log in to my inbox, spam emails are generated to everyone in my contact list. They all have an attachment URL , which end in .PHP. I have tried to remove the virus with norton antivirus 2011, and Avast antivirus. Niether one can find the virus doing a full system scan. I use 2 other browsers, Chrome, and Internet explorer. The spam emails are not sent in the other 2 browsers, only in firefox, both versions, 3.6 and the new 4.0 beta. If you can help remove this virus please let me know.I removed 4.o beta and went back to 3.6 which seemed to stop the spam emails, until the last 3 days, when the virus emails are sent every time I log into my inbox. I've tried removing and reinstalling after cleaning the registry, going back to 3.6 then 4.0, so far nothing has worked. I can't find much info on the internet either.

• Cannot download or save files with firefox

I try to download attachments from various emails, or updates off of various sites but the download/save window pops up for a second and goes away. I can access the same things just fine using IE or Chrome, but it will not work with firefox.
I've tried to fix by disabling the pop up blocker, but that didnt work. The save as box still flashes on the screen and then disappears
I am able to access the attachments on my work computer using firefox, so its some settings issue with my home system...but I have no idea what it could be.
I have not changed anything nor installed any new software that would have started this issue....

• Cannot open the SWF file with firefox

right click open SWF files with IE,it's ok , but with firefox opening it ,point out that can't find the application

IE uses a Flash ActiveX control.
Google Chrome comes with its own flash plugin (gcswf32.dll)(libgcflashplayer.so)
Firefox uses a different Flash plugin.
Your above posted list of installed plugins doesn't show the Flash plugin for Firefox, so you need to install that Flash plugin.
