even simply installing the jdk development kit
the worse part is that i cant even find the other one

Cody,
I presume you're using Windows 2K/XP/Vista... You didn't say.
As far as I know, the only registry entries the JDK-installer creates is the "uninstaller" one... So
1. Delete the director(ies) you installed to (you did note it didn't you) from your harddisk.
* The root of the default is install directory is C:\Program Files\Java\
* eg C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.6.0_10 and C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.6.0_10
2. Cleanup the (un)installer registry entries manually
* see: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/314481
I've never used one, but there's lots of third-party uninstallers which all claim to totally remove all vestiges of an installed application... google for [windows unistaller|http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&rls=GGLD,GGLD:2008-06,GGLD:en&pwst=1&q=windows+uninstaller&start=10&sa=N] and take your shovel.
Cheers. Keith.

    Why not? Are there error messages? Where are the files located? Why are you deleting MicroSoft Word files?

  • Uninstalling JDK 1.4 from Windows

    Is there a manual way to uninstall JDK 1.4 from Windows 2000. I can't uninstall it from the add/remove programs. If I try to do that nothing happens.
    JDK 1.4 has been causing me some problems with applications running on my machine.

    Delete the folders where jdk is installed and then go to the Registry and in HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\JavaSoft delete all keys related to version 1.4. Also don't forget to update the version number in the keys Java Development Kit and Java Runtime Environment.

  • Support Assistant cannot be uninstalled.

    Support Assistant is not working correctly but when I try to uninstall it before reinstalling it, it starts off ok but then leaves a message that it cannot be uninstalled as it has not been installed. it is obviously there in Control as it is shown in the list of installed programmes.

    Hi Brian,
    Try the following.
    Download the HPSA version on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder.
    ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp58501-59000/sp58915.exe
    When done, open your Downloads folder and cut the installer - now click the Start Menu, open Computer, open Local Disk C and paste the HPSA installer here.
    Next, right click the HPSA installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.
    Let me know the following.
    Does this install Ok and if so, does HPSA work?
    If it installs Ok, but HPSA doesn't work, can you now successfully uninstall it from its entry in Programs and Features?

    I recently removed some older versions of java as they take up alot of space.. now wondering if i should have.
    I uninstalled all version fine, leaving only the update 6 for both JDK and JRE. Now when i try to compile in Jcreator i get the error message:

    I have no javac file in the directory.I did before i unstalled the older updates
    I am getting a windows installer error when trying to install JDK 5.0 update 6, windows installer works when trying to uninstall though. When i try to remove JDK 5.0 update 5, it tells me i all ready have this version installed, and to uninstall through my add/remove utility which is what i am doing! Then if i click ok i get: 'Fatal error during installation' This also occurs when trying to remove update 6. I also get problems with my JRE 5.0 update 6. When trying to uninstall i get the message 'error applying transforms, verify paths are valid' I cannot get rid of these!. It seems to be interfering/linked with installing them aswell.

  • Cannot Install Java JDK on Windows 7 Home Premium

    Hello all, I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to post this question. I have an issue trying to install ANY JDK on Windows 7 Home Premium. When I run the install it throws an Error: 1722. I've tried looking around on Google but haven't found much. Has anyone else has this error?

    I tried to install the windows7 64-bit jdk on my windows7 64-bit computer with 2 browsers, chrome and firefox. There was no difference between browsers. Then, I repeatedly installed and uninstalled many, many times, trying to figure out what was wrong.
    After an easy install, I click on the jdk program to try to use it, and I get a pop-up saying something like, you have already installed this, do you want to install it again? That is all I get from the installed jdk program, there is nothing else the program will do, only give me that pop-up.
    I then read and studied all the online info from all the java websites. Their website info does not mention this problem. Then I did all the you tube videos that deal with this problem. After watching a you tube video, I clicked start, and typed in cmd, and then typed javac; the message I am given is that javac is not recognized as a command.
    Then, I tried to contact the java/oracle company many different ways, with chat and email, and got NO response; they are not addressing or responding to this situation in any way.
    Last night, I contacted my computer company, and after speaking with them, they are saying they will go into my computer and make the necessary software changes to the windows 7 so that the java jdk will be properly working. Sounds great, but - they want to charge me a lot of $$MONEY. I got two price quotes, $80 and $89. It is not free, which is frustrating. The java download is free, but I do I have to pay to get it properly installed on my computer? Can anyone provide wise advise? Is there any way I can get it properly installed for free?
    Also, someone mentioned that maybe my Norton Antivirus is preventing the proper jdk install, but I doubt it, since the norton antivirus has never before given me any problem.
    Please help. Thanks!

  • Cannot update, uninstall or install Adobe AIR

    I have a particularly puzzling problem.
    AdobeAIR has never allowed me to update it. Ever. I have received countless notifications over the years, but everytime I clicked update, I received an error message. The version I have is 3.7.0.2090. I have attempted updating it to 16.0.0.273 all day. I continually receive this message:
    "An error occurred while installing Adobe Air. Installation may not be allowed by your administrator. Please contact your administrator."
    I have downloaded the latest version and selected "run as administrator". That didn't work. I tried creating a new administrator account on my pc and then selected "run as administrator" using that account. All to no avail.
    I figured I might uninstall the version I have, so opened control panel (I'm running Windows 7, btw) and looked for the application in the Programmes list to uninstall it. However, the app was not listed. Anywhere.
    I then found, in these forums, someone had a problem with updating and/or uninstalling and attempted a manual removal of some register keys. So following their instruction, I did that. However the issues and error messages remain unchanged.
    I am at a complete loss. I cannot uninstall an app that doesn't exist. But I can't update the version I supposedly have.
    Any help with this troubling issue would be most welcome.
    Kind regards and desperate pleas...
    podge
    Edit: I have also tried repairing this problem using MicrosoftFixIt. That did not help.

    Please share the exact error message which you are getting while running the application? My guess is an appropriate Adobe AIR version is required for running this application. You can use the documentation http://helpx.adobe.com/air/kb/troubleshoot-air-installation-windows.html and use the check the determine the version  of Adobe AIR on your computer.

  • Cannot completely uninstalled trial version of Adobe Acrobat Professional 9

    Hi,
    I've downloaded Adobe Acrobat Pro 9 as a 30-day trial. When 15 days or so have passed, I've decided to discontinue my use and uninstalled the trial version via Control Panel - Programs and Features. However the program refuses to go away. When I install Acrobat Reader 9 it tells me that I already have Adobe Acrobat Pro and should decide to choose one as the default PDF file-handler. Now once in a while when I open a PDF file the Pro trial window would pop-up and ask me to enter a key or choose the trial version. When I choose the trial version it then says that an error has occurred when loading the trial information, or something like that.
    I've looked for the Pro folder/files throughout my computer and found nothing. I've tried Microsoft's Windows Install Clean Up utility and removed Pro from the program list there, however that did not change anything. I still get the trial pop-up and the error message that follows (see attachments).
    Any thoughts?

    If the executable is removed, then it is not possible to run it anymore.  Therefore the uninstall did not really remove everything.
    Can you check if there is anything left in Program Files\Common Files\Adobe?
    If you really cannot find what's running, try Process Monitor from Sysinternals to see what's running when you open a PDF file.

  • Cannot install/uninstall/debug my app

    Hi,
    when I was trying to install my app from Store yesterday, WP8.1 Silverlight app on Lumia 1520 with 8.1 Dev Preview, the installation got stucked and I had to restart my phone. After the restart
    I can no longer install this app from Store, it always ends with the same error. I cannot even install this app from Visual Studio.
    Error 6
    Installation of the application failed. The application is already installed, or update or uninstall is running.
    Note I can install and uninstall other apps from Store, another phone restart and Soft Reset has not fixed this. The app is also not listed in the installed app list.
    I know that changing the app identity in manifest should work for deploying from Visual Studio, but the problem is here installation of the app from Store. I need to test the functionality of the actually published and that's not possible right now.
    Is there anything I can do, is there maybe some installation cleanup utility or tool to use? Hard Reset is really not an option here since it's my primary device for daily use.
    Thanks

    How about a soft reset? Hold the lock button and volume down button at the same time for 5-10 seconds.

  • Cannot Run, Uninstall or Reinstall Palm Desktop for Palm M500 on Windows XP

    I have a Palm M500 and Windows XP Home Edition with service pack 3 installed. Palm deskop was working smoothly, but now every time I try to run Palm Desktop I get the following error message: "Windows Installer: the feature you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable. Click OK to try again, or enter an alternate path to a folder containing the installation package 'Palm Desktop.msi' in the box below." The box below says "C:\DOCUME~1\user\LOCALS~1\is33\1".I tried to uninstall Palm and I get the same message and Palm does not uninstall. I downloaded from Palm Support downloads the  PalmDesktopWin414EN update and tried to install it and I get the same error message so I cannot install it. Please Help !!!
    Post relates to: Palm m500
    Post relates to: Palm m500

    Hello DiegoK and welcome to the forums......
    I would try going into safe mode and following the instructions below.
    You should first make a copy of your data to have just in case something
    happens. You can find your data files by going to C:\Program Files\Palm or
    Palm One. Highlight your Palm Desktop username and right click and copy.
    Then go to your PC desktop, right click on a blank spot and select paste.
    Now you want to uninstall Palm Desktop and remove everything that has to do
    with Palm Desktop from your computer. Like the above folder, delete the Palm folder. Once this is done,
    you will need to delete some registry keysfrom your PC Operating System registry.
    Word of warning, going here and deleting the wrong thing can cause your PC
    to not start up, crashing and deletion of programs and data. If you feel
    you are unsure of yourself, see if you have a friend that can help you or a
    PC technician that you can pay to help you. This will show them everything
    they need to delete. To retain your current Registry settings, we need to do a backup of the Registry.
    On the PC, go to start and run type "regedit" without quotes
    Highlight MY COMPUTER, go to File --> export. Should pop up with a Save As
    box. Current location is fine should be in My Documents or you can change to a location you will remember.
     In the file name box, type "Regbackup[todaysdate]" i.e. Regbackup07072008. Next, the hard part.
    The easiest way to make sure your working with the correct key, highlight the key i.e. palm quick install,
    and press delete on your keyboard. It will ask you, are you sure. Say yes. Do the same thing for all keys below.
    If you make a mistake, stop what you are doing. And call a PC technician.
    BUT do not turn off your computer.
    The reg keys are as follows (Note: some of theses reg keys will not be here
    but if they are delete them)
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Palm Quick Install
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\PalmOne File Transfer
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\U.S. Robotics\Pilot Desktop
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Palm, Inc.
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmDesktopAutorun
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\palmOne
    * HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\PalmSource
    * HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\PalmSource or anything else that says palm
    Next reboot your computer
    Then reinstall your Palm desktop from the CD and do a hotsync. If it asks
    you for a username and you synced your device before, put in 'test" if you
    did not sync before you create a hotsync name.

  • Cannot install/uninstall/use flash

    recently i uninstalled flash in order to install a new version,
    after this i discovered i could not install flash, and although
    flash had been removed some animations could play,
    furthermore the "about flash" or whatever ensured me that flash was still installed.
    i uninstalled it through the control panel, a fatal mistake.
    since then i have tried many times to use the flash uninstaller.
    i have tried downloading special system tools.
    i have searched and removed every folder and every registry entry
    named "flash", "macromedia", "adobe" etc.
    i have removed every visible trace of any adobe product just to be certain, with "Revo uninstaller".
    i have uninstalled/reinstalled opera.
    and i have then used a registry cleaner repeatedly.
    i have looked through countless discussions to get help.
    i cannot install any version of flash.
    the "about flash" page still tells me i have flash installed.
    is there anything more to do?
    the only thing i can think of is reinstalling windows,
    or buying a new computer.
    or if someone let me know the location of every file
    and registry entry associated with flash so i could remove them.

    I should have mentioned that i have Windows XP,
    using Opera, as mentioned.
    i did not find any flash10x.ocx,
    i did however find a few flash.ocx files
    on various places, which i removed.
    i also found and deleted
    NPSWF32.dll
    NPSWF32_FlashUtil.exe
    and flashplayer.xpt
    mentioned in http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash
    there must be some traces left in the registry
    since the installer constantly fails to initialize.
    i have tried disabling the firewall and antivirus
    while running the installer.
    and i have tried all the standard instructions.
    The browser does not claim that flash is installed anymore,
    but the installers still fail to initialize when they start.

  • Error 1606, Acrobat X Pro - cannot update, uninstall, or fix install

    I installed X Pro on a Win7 machine.  I updated the program to 10.0.1 when the update came out in February.  About 2 weeks later, SP1 for Win7 was released and I installed it.  I don't know if SP1 is causing a problem, but I have not been able to install the 10.0.2 or 10.0.3 updates, either manually or with the Acrobat Updater.
    I have used the Microsoft Fix-It Wizard and done the manual fixes as noted in their Error 1606 Knowledge Base article.
    I would like to uninstall and reinstall X Pro, but I can't even do that due to the Error 1606 message.
    I have had some help and advice in this forum previously, but none of the suggestions have helped (registry tweaks).
    Has ANYONE solved this problem??
    TIA,
    Ira

    Thanks for your help. The problem cannot be resolved according to your suggestiones. My Windows 7 is in Traditional Chinese. I still have no ideas for resolving these two errors.
