I cannot start my g5 mac os x 10.4.11, startup light flashes six times

I cannot start my Powermac g5, with OS X 10.4.11; startup light (which you can see under DVDrom drive) flashes six times; I have 4 GB RAM, I have tried to change the  memory bars in different position or remove 1 couple but no change; I have also tried to install the hard drive system in another mac and from there I could well open the drive and see all  the files; then I put the drive back on my machine but computer does not start.
Can anyone help ?

Hello,
1 beep = no RAM installed
2 beeps = incompatible RAM types
3 beeps = no good banks
4 beeps = no good boot images in the boot ROM (and/or bad sys config block)
5 beeps = processor is not usable
In addition to the beeps, on some computers the power LED will flash a corresponding number of times plus one. The LED will repeat the sequence after approximately a 5-second pause. The tones are only played once.
Note: In this case, a flash is considered to be 1/4 second or 250 ms or greater in length.

  • Satellite L30 PSL33E won't start at all - LED flashes six times

    Hello,
My poor mother is quite distraught! Her Satellite L30 PSL33E has just died.
It completely shut down and now won't start at all.
Orange light flashes six times when the power button is pressed.
No hard drive, fan, screen or any other noise / activity.
She has tried it without the battery.
Some sort of hardware failure I imagine.
Any ideas what this blink code means?
    Thanks in advance,
    D.

I dont know what the code means but you can read it; short means 0 and long means 1
Anyway, the error code means that an hardware fault was detected on the motherboard and only the motherboard replacement could help you?
    Why?
because is really hard to repair a notebooks motherboard.
Its mostly not possible if you dont have enough knowledge, experience and special tools.
I think either you will contact the ASP in your country and will ask for a fix or you will have to buy a new notebook ;(

  • G5 Froze & No Longer Able To Start Up - Indicator Light Flashes 3 Times

I was using Logic while my PowerMac G5 DP 1.8 froze completely. I wasn't able to escape the program or do anything else for that matter so I manually powered down and then when I turned my G5 on again the computer would not start up while the indicator light on the front panel flashed 3 times and then paused and then repeated again indefinitely. Over time the fan starts softly and then gets very loud.
I have been reading alot of reports, here and elsewhere, that this has been happening to alot of G5's after about 3 years time (which is approximately the same age as my computer). I also tried a bunch of stuff like the PMU reset, pulling out some of the memory and trying to restart the computer but nothing has worked.
From my web research of other people's experiences, it appears that the logic board or the CPU or both need to be replaced. I have an appointment to take the G5 to my local Apple store but I was wondering what to expect. The G5 is obviously no longer under warranty but are they going to expect me to pay for a new board or CPU? I also read somewhere that in one case the Apple store just fixed the computer with no charge for parts or labor.
Has anybody had this experience recently and know what to expect? I'm really disappointed and frustrated and this couldn't have happened at a worse time for me! Any advice or insight would def be appreciated...

    Thanks for your response DP...
I went to my Apple store appointment last night and was informed that 3 blinking lights means either that there is a problem with RAM or that the Logic Board needs to be replaced. They tried to start the machine with their RAM with no success which leaves only the Logic Board as the culprit.
Once again I am extremely disappointed that my computer which is only 4 years old needs a major repair! And I was quoted ~ $800 from the Apple Store to get it fixed!!!
FAO DP: Which UPS do you recommend? And do you think that a UPS would have saved my Logic Board? Is there a connection between the use of a UPS and the longevity of the Logic Board in your experience? What hurts the Logic Board - spikes or surges or is it drop-off's too? And just to check, regarding the symptoms I described above, does it seem like my power supply is still working ok?

  • 4515s,wont start,baterry light flashing

I have 4515s that wont turn on,when I plug it in battery light starts blinking blue, regardless if there is battery inserted or not.
I tested PSU voltage and it was 7.8 V but should be 19V,so I beleive taht PSu is dead but just double checking here.
    thanks.

I took the MacBook Pro OS 10.5.8 (Leopard) to the APPLE STORE and it was working, but the Mail Program settings were all messed up since I connected with iCloud.  So they fixed the settings. and it was working.  They checked something else and said OK, all set.  But it would not shut off.  They took it in the back looking for the problem and after about 20 min. brought it back out saying that the problem was defective 3rd party memory, which was
"Kingston KTA-MB667/2G".(made in China)  So they wouldn't sell me new memory and fix it, because of third party stuff. I didn't quite understand that or what happened here, because it was working when I brought it in.
When I got home, It would only start up, spin, and shut off in about 3 seconds.  So I had a source of Apple Products through my son and I got "Kingston KTA-MB667/2G" made in Taiwan" "Apple P/N MA939G/A" memory as it reads in the label.  We installed it 3 times to be sure, with no luck. The sleep light flashes 3 times, and/ or more when I try to open it.    When I took it into the Store, it was working, but not when I got home.
    Thanks for your fast reply.

    Please help

but if I use another user account it works fine. I have uninstalled and re-installed Creative Suite but no differene.
Are there some logs or cache's that I need to delete or something??
There are a few things to try but it means the problem is in the account itself. un- and reinstall the Suite will not help if you are not also using the Adobe cleaner tool for this job:
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cscleanertool.html
Check this and read the instructions carefully and most important, have a back up of your important settings (in Photoshop your custom actions, tool presets, brushes and workspaces and for Bridge the custom output templates and keyword list, to name the most important for me).
If you check your user library (by default hidden per OSX 10.7, use menu Go and press option to reveal this library) Inhere is a folder called Application support and most of those settings are here - User/Library/Application Support/Adobe.
If you copy this folder to a back up location you can always use this to copy the certain wanted parts to the new installed folder.
Also use a check and repair permissions on your start up disk with Apple disk utility or third party software like Cocktail.
And finally since your still on 10.8.2 they just recently released 10.8.3
Usually the update procedure is using the App Store and check software update. BUt in this case it might be useful to find the 10.8.3 Combo Update on the Apple Support section.
You have to download this yourself and then it is a normal update procedure. The combo update does a bit more refreshing for the user account then the normal update.
And if all this is not helping you then you can use the Apple recovery disk to reinstall your system, this is what before was known as an Archive and Install procedure. This creates a new user library while all your custom settings and files are being kept.
But you have to find info for yourself for this and also make sure you have a proper back up of all your important files, but as a wise person you already had done so I believe ?

    See Here for
    Frozen or unresponsive iPhone
Try this first... You will not lose any Data...
Press and Hold the Sleep/Wake Button and the Home Button at the Same Time...
Wait for the Apple logo to Appear...
Usually takes about 15 - 20 Seconds... ( But can take Longer...)
    Release the Buttons...

If that does not work... try letting the battery fully drain.
Then Charge for an Hour and try the suggestions again.

You need to reinstall OS X:
Reinstalling Lion/Mountain Lion Without Erasing the Drive
Boot to the Recovery HD: Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions: Upon startup select Disk Utility from the main menu. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions as follows.
When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Continue button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

Reinstall OS X without erasing the drive
    1. Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    2. Reinstall Snow Leopard
If the drive is OK then quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed with reinstalling OS X.  Note that the Snow Leopard installer will not erase your drive or disturb your files.  After installing a fresh copy of OS X the installer will move your Home folder, third-party applications, support items, and network preferences into the newly installed system.
Download and install Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1.
    =======================================
    Reinstall - Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. • Solution: mac os x cannot start up from this volume

I purchased a new WD 300GB SATA drive recently to replace a failing OEM 250GB drive in a G5 tower. I installed the new drive and ran the 10.4.3 Installer DVD. I opened Disk Utility, selected the new drive, clicked the Erase tab, etc., etc. Went back to the Installer, saw an error: "You cannot install OS X on this volume. Mac OS X cannot start up from this volume."
Long story short, it appears that sometimes Disk Utility doesn't actually correctly format the drive. The key thing to look for is that if you go to Disk Utility and select the physical drive volume, then hit Get Info, under Partition Type it will say "FDiskpartitionscheme," even though it claims to be formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled. The Installer will reject any disks not listed as "Applepartitionscheme."
The solution is to go back into Disk Utility and try different methods of reformatting (select the physical drive, select the logical volume, Erase, Partition, etc.) until you get "Applepartitionscheme." Then it should work fine.

To install Panther, you need the retail install version CDs (black with silver X). I suspect you are trying to use a model specific version or upgrade version (gray), that won't work.
When you formatted the new drive, did you check to install the OS 9 drivers? The drivers need to be installed if you want to be able to boot OS 9.x. If you just want to be able to run in classic mode, the drivers are not necessary.
If OS X has never been installed on your Mac, you need to check if your Mac requires a firmware (Boot ROM version in System Profiler) update. Mac OS X: Available firmware updates
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86117 If an update is required, the update must be installed (using OS 9) BEFORE you install OS X.
