I cannot transfer my iTunes library to the new macbook pro from time capsule, what to do?

what to do to transfer itune library from time capsule into the new mac book pro(retina)?

You have an Apple Store across the street, how convenient...  I think you should just walk over and ask.
NOTE:  Your iTunes library exists on your computer.  Unless you subscribe to Apple's iTunes Match service (which matches or uploads your library's songs and playlists into iCloud), you cannot use another computer and access your library.
However, you can download previous purchases from the iTunes Store (at no cost) into a different iTunes library (not your library), and then set up the iPod to sync to that library, or set it to Manually manage music and videos, and manually load the songs (and other content) to your iPod.  The manual method may be better in this case, since you won't be accessing that computer's iTunes library again.
To do this, go to the iTunes Store Home screen.  Sign in using your Apple ID (the one you used to make the purchases).  Click Purchased under QUICK LINKS.  On the Purchased screen, you can find and download previous purchases.  It may not be available for audiobook purchases.
After the iPod has the content, you should probably delete everything you downloaded in the computer's iTunes library.

  • I moved my itunes library to my new MacBook Pro from my iMac using an external harddrive following apple's steps. When I plug in my ipod shuffle 4g and try to download voiceover I get The iTunes Library file cannot be saved. An unknown error occured (-54)

I'm just wondering what step I should start with to resolve this. There's probably a library issue but I'm not really sure where to start with that.
I'm pretty sure that the voice over is what is giving the error with itunes because when I try to download it, it won't then the error will pop up after a few moments of itunes trying to download it. Thanks for your support!

Don't know what changed today but it downloaded and installed on the shuffle. So far so good.

  • How to transfer my itunes library to my new macbook pro? pleaseeeee

assuming all your media files are in the default location, the simplest way would be to connect the two Macs with a firewire cable, boot the source Mac in Target Disk Mode, and copy the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) from Macintosh HD/users/yourname/music on the source to Macintosh HD/users/yourname/music on the target (overwriting the iTunes folder in place there).

  • I have a new Windows tablet computer with limited hard drive space, and cannot transfer my itunes library to the hard drive. Can I run t media from an external hard drive? If so, how do I transfer my files?

I have a new Windows tablet computer with limited hard drive space (32 GB), and cannot transfer my itunes library to the hard drive. Can I run itunes from an external hard drive? I have tried to follow some of the directions on this site, but am having no success. Thanks.

iTunes will run fine with the media on an external drive.
However, I suggest that a tablet computer with a tiny hard drive is not ideal as the primary computer for managing an iTunes library, even a small one. If you have another machine, perhaps a big, boxy, inexpensive old desktop with a decent amount of storage, that might be a better choice.

I recently purchased a new PC. I had backed-up my old computer on Carbonite, so I was able to transfer my iTunes library to the new computer when I downloaded my info from Carbonite, but the playlists are gone. Is there a way to restore my playlists?
Most of my playlists are on my iPod. If I use my iPod to transfer, will the songs double in my library? Also, how do I do this?
Thank you for any & all info you can provide!
    Julie

If you had backed up and restored your library properly you should have ended up with the playlists too. Did you import the media folder from the backup drive into a new library rather than restoring the entire iTunes folder?

  • I have the new macbook pro from late 2011. when i try plugging my cannon gl2 into the mac via firewire 800 it does not show up in iMovie as an option to import from. i even have gone into my settings on the camera and changed it to vcr.

I have the new MacBook Pro from late 2011. "the one before the new ritina display" i have a cannon gl2 video camera which is mini dv. when i plug it into my mac via firwire 800 it does not show up in the iMovie. i have set the settings on the camera to vcr mode and changed it to av->dv out. when i click on the import from camera on imovie it doesnt even show my camera in it. it just gives me the option to import video from my facetime camera. the camera is turned on the wires are connected i know for fact that its a firewire and not a usb. i know what they each look like. i bought the firewire cable and it was marked down cause it was an opened and used item. would it be possible that it could be deffected and if that is not the reason what other options do i have?

I would say that odds are high that you have a bad cable. Maybe that is why they returned it.
I would suggest trying a different firewire cable.
You can find Firewire cables inexpensively at monoprice.com. You need a 4 pin to 9 pin firewire cable.

    Other things to check:
Is your camera plugged in to wall power (not to batteries only). Must be hooked to an AC power source to import.

  • Can I upgrade to the new MacBook Pro from PowerBook copying the hard disk?

I have a Power Book G4 17", now I'm going to buy a new MacBook pro 17" and want to transfer the same software (I mean the whole content of my actual HD) to the new MacBook Pro using SuperDuper!
I want to know if the Intel based MacBook Pro can run the same operating system configured in the PowerBook or I must install first the Mac OSX on the new MacBook pro and then reinstalla manually all the applications/documents?

    PowerBook G4 17"   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hi Marcello,
first of all: WELCOME TO THE DISCUSSIONS!
No to both of your questions:
No, you cannot clone the PPC hard disk to a new Intel disk. The systems are completely different.
No, you don't have to reinstall all your software manually.
You have to install Tiger from the install DVD that shipped with that MacBook Pro. You CANNOT use any other install disk, so take care you don't damage it! Once this is done you can transfer all your data, applications and settings from the old computer using the migration assistant in /Applications/Utilities.
Be aware that there might be problems with applications that are not universal binaries and require Rosetta emulation: Intel-based Mac: Some migrated applications may need to be updated.

  • HT3819 Can I use Home Sharing to permanently Transfer my old iTunes Library to a new macbook pro?

    Hi,
I have a quick questoin regarding iTunes Home Sharing.
    1. Can I use Home Sharing to transfer music from my iTunes Library on my old Power Mac to iTunes on my new MacBook Pro?
    2. If I deauthorise iTunes on my old Power Mac will I lose my music on my new iTunes Library on my Macbook Pro - essentially are the two somehow linked together? I want to erase my old HD, wipe it clean, chuck it in a case and use as a back up storage, and then sell my old Power Mac.
    Thanks in advance.

Home Sharing is only for PCs that are connected in the same network

  • ITunes Library to a New MacBook Pro

I've just purchased a new MacBook Pro and would like to move my iTunes library which now resides on my PowerBook to the MacBook Pro.
Can someone point me in the right direction on how to simply move the music over. I have several gigs worth of music and do have both Mac's on the same network.
    -Michael

You should be fine if you move your whole iTunes folder (with the Library and the Music folder) over to the new Mac (or your whole user folder, for that matter). Repairing permissions afterwards is always a good idea.

  • Transfer photos and music to a new macbook pro using time machine

Help!  I backed up my old macbook pro to an external drive using time machine.  I want to transfer all of the photos and music to my new macbook pro, but it says I don't have permission.  I can't get permission from the old mac because it won't turn on!  I brought it to the genius bar and they couldn't turn it on either.  They suggested I take it to Staples to get the files off.

    Julie,
Probably because you used a different account name than you had on the old one. Create a new account with the same name you had when you created the backup and run Migration Assistant. Migration Assistant is in Applications / Utitlities and you create the user by clicking the Apple icon, then System Preferences, Users & Groups.

  • Just started my new Macbook Pro, from Time Machine backup and the password is not working

Just got home with my new mackbook pro, and going through the startup process I booted from a time machine back up of my 2007 macbook. When I got to the login part of the process, after the new macbook was registered and ready to go, and now my password is not recognized.

    Sorry about that.
I just got done posting back and forth with someone with a similar problem (not exact).
Turn the power off by holding down the power button, that is if just one push does not turn it off.
Then turn it back on and hold down the Option key. That will give you a startup screen where you can select which partition on the drive to boot into. Select the Recovery partition. From there you can use Disk Utility to wipe the Macintosh partition of the drive and then do a reinstall of the OS from the Apple website.
You need a internet connection to do this and depending on your internet speed it can take a few hours to complete. If you have a fairly fast internet connection it may still take 1-2 hours to download the 3.5+GB file to do the reinstall.
Before you go through all this try turning the system off and back on a few time to see if Lion can recover on it's own. I doubt it but it's worth a shot.
Again sorry for the condescending tone.
    Happy New Year.

  • Old iMac external hd library going to new macbook pro library

i can't seem to find my exact situation on this forum.
i have an old iMac where i had a hard drive connected to it, which is where my library was.
i now have a new macbook pro and i want to connect the samr harddrive, with the library on it, and have that operate as the itunes library on the new macbook pro.
I got it to work flawlessly on iPhoto. I just held "option" when i started the program and it asked me where the library was. I pointed it to the hard drive and it work no problem.
I tried the same thing for iTunes and when i pointed it to the folder (because there is no itunes packaged file like in iphoto" it gave me a message stating that there was no itunes library in that folder.
I then tried to go through the preferences / advanced / "change media folder" route, and when i change the folder nothing seems to happen.
Am I missing a step? help please

I think I know hte issue but not the immediate solution. Your external drive doesn't have the full library, just the media files. The library files which have all the things you see in hte iTunes browser are on your old computer so you don't see it when you plug the drive into your new computer.
You could try copying just the library files from the hard drive of your old computer to the same location on your new computer, then try opening hte external drive. This might work.
Incidentally, mpst people put their whole library, not just hte media files, on their external drives so it is all a neat package for moving between computers.  I don't think, though, that this will be a simple matter of copying the library files to the hard drive because the location references might not work
