I cannot type Unicode characters (Vietnamese for instance) in Flash input textfields.

Given the same website containing a Flash Input TextField, I can:
# Type Vietnamese properly on IE
# Type Vietnamese properly on Google Chrome, but only when the Flash '''wmode''' property is set at "windows" (not transparent, nor opaque, etc.)
# Type Vietnamese properly on FireFox 3.6
# '''Cannot''' type Vietnamese properly at all on FireFox 4 Final, no matter what wmode is set to

There are two "serial" numbers (the product number) that came on the product packaging.
The software is Adobe Flash Professional CS5.5 Student and Teacher Edition, purchased from Amazon.com and needed student verification to obtain the license.
^ [ I figured out what was wrong, but I'll just leave the information here for anyone in the future that may have short-term memory as well ]
I have just went through my records that I recovered from my laptop and it seems that the serial number on the product package DOES IN FACT have letters in it.  But I think that I had to register it with Adobe and verify that I was a student before Adobe would give me my legitimate serial number that contained only numbers.  So this is why there are tons of these threads about this that never go answered because the people asking and the people helping are both right and wrong at the same time.  The students are trying to use the only serial that was provided to them, but it isnt the true serial.  Maybe Adobe could be more clear that it isn't a serial number for the product underneath it?   "Product Code" is synonymous with "Serial Number" to most people.
You use this code (the code with letters in it; the "product code") to contact Adobe and verify your status as a studen/teacher and then they give you the true serial number that is all numbers.  Search your email for mail from Adobe to find your serial if you have already done this.  I had completely forgotten how the process worked since it was a while ago.
Thanks for the help Mylenium, I hope this helps whoever comes across it in the future.

  • Cannot type certain characters

I have a brand new Ipod touch - right out of the box it
appears to be defective - I cannot type certain characters,
such as "C", and "T". Most characters do work but I believe
the touch screen is dead in certain places. Is there any hope
of this being something I can fix or should I just return it
    immediately?

    Hi,
First try the [5R's Trouble Shoot|http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/troubleshooting/ipodtouch>.
You could also see if the keyboard will work in landscape mode with Safari.
I think your first instinct is correct though, take/send it back.

  • Cannot type in any textbox for a specific website

    Hello,
I have a website and I cannot type anything in any textbox (e.g. search box) when using FireFox. I tried loading the site in Safe Mode with no effect, I still cannot type anything.
I have seen similar behavior, but it always seems to get fixed by disabling add-ons while in my case it doesn't.
I checked the site on Windows, Mac and Linux, on all it's the same behavior only when using FireFox. With all other browsers the site is fine and I can type in those text boxes.
Let me know if this has happened to anyone else, I'm trying to get this fixed as it's really annoying for the readers.
    Thanks in advance!

I see the same on that web page.<br />
It looks that some JavaScript on that page isn't working properly and thus doesn't select the text area or input field if you click it.
    <br />
I can reach the input fields by pressing the Tab key until I get a cursor, so you can use that as a workaround for now.<br />
You can contact the website and inform them that their website isn't working properly in Firefox.

  • To TYPE Unicode characters

    Hi!
I use FrameMaker 8 on Windows XP.
I have scanned a two-volume Greek book and ran it through an OCR program. Not all of the transcription is correct, so I have to fix it. Some of the text is quoted from older books, so there's a lot of interesting combinations of diacritical marks, creating special characters. Most of them I have found in the font I use (Alkaios) and have no big trouble typing them with the corresponding key combinations.
Running charmap from the Run... field under Start I can see that also the rest of the characters are present in the Alkaios font. But I don't seem to find the combination of keys in FrameMaker to produce them (and probably those particular combinations are not implemented). And I can't use Alt+number, since that only works with ASCII characters, and the ones I'm after are far beyond those.
Searching the web, I found that what I'm supposed to type is U+number. The problem is that in any editor, typing a 'U' will present me with a 'U'. (Very logical and practical, since you sometimes also want to be able to type a 'U'!) Searching some more, I found that in for example OpenOffice the 'U' in the typing sequence should be translated as Ctrl+Shift (haven't tried it there, though), and I also found another editor in which it works that way. And in Word 2007 I actually CAN use Alt+number (the decimal numbers 0912 and 0944, in this case).
But in FM I can't use Alt+number, because I get a question mark or a ring, or something else. And I can't use Ctrl+Shift+number, because when I hit the zero key, FM tries to copy whatever is highlighted in the document (which i nothing, and hence FM protests).
As you've probably guessed by now, I would like to know what key combination (or other trick) I have to use to be able to somehow type or enter the special characters into my document? Or am I stuck with copy-and-paste from the charmap?
    Regards, Mikael Persson!

I think using the Windows calculator is a perfectly acceptable way to convert between hex and decimal :)
    Here's another issue:
there are two stages to getting a unicode character to display: you have to specify the correct character, and then the font involved has to actually have a glyph for that character in it.
I expect, to put it rather anthropomorphically, it goes something like:
    1. you type/paste the character
    2. Application asks the font if it has a glyph for that character
    3. If not, application asks operating system if it has a font that has that character
    4. Once one is found, it gets displayed.
My hunch from what I've seen is that applications like Word, and most web-broswers these days, will liase with the Windows operating system until a font is found that has the necessary glyphs for the required characters.
However, some applications give up at step two: if, for example, your doc in some Adobe application is using Helvetica, and you ask for a very obscure unicode character, and Helvetica doesn't have a glyph for it, you may just get a blank square or "Missing character" symbol.
This used to also be the case with the Firefox browser - if I was writing a webpage and put in an obscure character, which wasn't present in default fonts like "Times New Roman" or "Verdana", I'd get a missing character symbol instead, even though my PC had other fonts which *did* have glyphs for that. I'd need to explicitly put "font="Arial Unicode" or sthg like that into the webpage to make it talk to windows to retrieve a glyph.
However, over the past couple of years, Firefox has stopped this and will just go get whatever glyphs it needs.
Perhaps programs like Frame and InDesign actually see this kind of behaviour as a virtue?
(All the above is totally speculative based on my own experience, mind you...)

  • Cannot Type Full Serial Number for Flash Pro CS5.5 STUDENT

Flash Professional CS5.5 STUDENT & Teacher Edition has several letters in the beginning of the serial number unlike the standard releases.  I have purchased my copy from Amazon.com and I have installed my copy fine once before but my computer crashed recently and now I cannot reinstall Flash Pro because it won't let me type letters into the serial form, only numbers.  I have tried typing them normally, using shift, copy and pasting them... nothing.  Is there any other way that I can input the serial number or fix whatever isn't letting me type letters?
    Thanks,

  • Cannot type in Word 2011 for mac?? Help!

    Hi
I recently bought an iMac PC and installed windows for mac.  when I open up word everything seems ok until i try typing and nothing happens??  At first I thought it had something to do with trying to edit a document from an old PC, but when trying to type in a new document same thing happens......nothing?  I have tried googling and can't seem to find a solution.  Any suggestions would be appreciated as at the moment I'm starting to regret buying this thing!
    Many thanks

Since your issue is with Word, which is a Microsoft product, I suggest you post your question on an MS Office forum since it's their software you're having problems with.  This issue has nothing to do with your Mac.
    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us
    PS
There is no such thing as "Windows For Mac".  You bought the same Windows that runs on any other PC.

  • Apple Keyboard and Win 8: Cannot type numbers ! Looking for driver or workaround.

I have just upgraded to Windows 8 on one of my Mac Minis. Alas, the Apple keyboard cannot be used to enter numbers in Windows 8 ! Is there a new driver out there that fixes this ? I have been unable to find one but I may have conducted a faulty search.

You may have to wait for the "official" Boot Camp drivers to be released since it's not oficially supported by Mac yet.

  • Type unicode in palette property

    Hello,
I using forms 11gR2, I cannot type unicode text for item label when designing forms.
I have set NLS_LANG=UTF8 in default.env file but it doen't works, after finish a word, text changed to non-unicode.
Please help me on this case.
    Thank you very much.

Hi There is an entry for forms in the registry they just renamed it strangely. It starts with OH then has a series of random numbers :)
    If you go to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\KEY_OH<Random numbers>
    For example
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\ORACLE\KEY_OH242471924
You will see it has a FORMS_PATH entry.
Or you can just search the registry for FORMS_ATH

  • After latest security update, cannot type capital "s" nor "w" using right shift key. Left one works fine...

I'm running Snow Leopard with the last week's update...
I see now cannot type several characters using the right shift key..
I tried to reboot - bad habit from windows era still no improvement...
how can I rollback to previous version of software?
or/ is there a solution to this problem

Is it all applications that these keys don't work?
Also is it a wired keyboard or bluetooth keyboard, either keyboard i'd suggest starting with resetting SMC (helps USB) and PRAM (helps Bluetooth)
    Reset SMC
Intel-based Macs: Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC)
    Reset PRAM
Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
If it's a USB keyboard i'd suggest trying a different USB port and restarting the computer, for a bluetooth keyboard i'd suggest removing the keyboard from Bluetooth Preferences and repairing the keyboard.

  • I can't type some characters into firefox for android with physical keypad

I am using an android device which is a Sharp 007sh that come with a physical 9 number keypad like those old nokia phone, running stock android 2.3 and using an input method modifier named as cedIME that can be downloaded from google play.
and with this setup, to type character into the phone, it is necessary to press multiple time a ley to get a character. For instance, to type a 'z' into the phone, you'll have to press the '9' button four time, so it change from w to x to y and finally z. However, in Firefox, when doing so to url bar and text area, pressing the first time the button '9' would create a highlighted character 'w', then another press would change the character from 'w' to 'x', but then it no longer being highlighted and the input cursor move to the right of it. As such, pressing the button '9' for the third time would not result in the intended change from 'x' to 'y', instead it would simply add a new character 'w' after the previous character 'x', and pressing the fourth time would thus result in another 'x', which make the output become 'xx', instead of the intended 'z' character. This problem is so far unseen on any other apps.

    Hi Lilybri,
I still have this problem with the accents in AC and I've just found that problem comes from the double-type characters (like the accents in Spanish).

BTW, I got no answer from Adobe and i'ts been more than 2 months since I registered the bug...

  • We cannot type Polish (non-latin) characters in WebDynpro applications

We cannot type Polish (non-latin) characters in WebDynpro application (in runtime) because 'Browser Help Shortcuts' are fired.
To type a polish character in polish keyboard you need to press AltGr + letter (ie. AltGr + a/c/e/s/o/l/z/x/n). To type an uppercase polish character you need to press AltGr + Shift + letter. This comination is in fact the same as pressing Alt + Ctrl + Shift + letter (because AltGr produces Alt + Ctrl) and it fires some of 'Browser Help Shortcuts'. For example AltGr + Shift + O should produce a letter O with a dash on it's top but instead it fires 'Show nesting of HTML containers'.
We tried to turn off sap-wd-lightspeed, but then other key combinations are reserved for u2018Browser Help Shortcutsu2019.
We need to be able to use AltGr + Shift + a/c/e/s/o/l/z/x/n in runtime.
    Product: SAP NW 7.11 SP04
    WebDynpro for Java
I hope there is a somewhere a hidden parameter that solves our problem Maybe we're in some kind of debug mode?
    Thanks for your help!!

The funny thing is that bold font [when message unread in message list] shows OK, ie in greek, but when i click on unread message, it is assumed to have been read, so it changes over to medium [non bold] and the encoding changes as well into the one that is not greek and thus unreadable.  In ~/.sylpheed/sylpheedrc the fonts are:
    widget_font=
    message_font=-microsoft-sylfaenarm-medium-r-normal-*-*-160-*-*-p-*-iso8859-7
    normal_font=-monotype-arial-medium-r-normal-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-7
    bold_font=-monotype-arial-bold-r-normal-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-7
    small_font=-monotype-arial-medium-r-normal-*-12-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-7
In /etc/gtk, for gtk1.2 apps the file refering to greek encoding [el] seems to be fine [exactly the same as in slackware 9.1].

  • Scanning files for non-unicode characters.

Question: I have a web application that allows users to take data, enter it into a webapp, and generate an xml file on the servers filesystem containing the entered data. The code to this application cannot be altered (outside vendor). I have a second webapp, written by yours truly, that has to parse through these xml files to build a dataset used elsewhere.
Unfortunately I'm having a serious problem. Many of the web applications users are apparently cutting and pasting their information from other sources (frequently MS Word) and in the process are embedding non-unicode characters in the XML files. When my application attempts to open these files (using DocumentBuilder), I get a SAXParseException "Document root element is missing".
I'm sure others have run into this sort of thing, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to tackle this problem. Obviously I'm going to have to start pre-scanning the files for invalid characters, but finding an efficient method for doing so has proven to be a challenge. I can load the file into a String array and search it character per character, but that is both extremely slow (we're talking thousands of LONG XML files), and would require that I predefine the invalid characters (so anything new would slip through).
I'm hoping there's a faster, easier way to do this that I'm just not familiar with or have found elsewhere.

require that I predefine the invalid charactersThis isn't hard to do and it isn't subject to change. The XML recommendation tells you here exactly what characters are valid in XML documents.
However if your problems extend to the sort of case where users paste code including the "&" character into a text node without escaping it properly, or they drop in MS Word "smart quotes" in the incorrect encoding, then I think you'll just have to face up to the fact that allowing naive users to generate uncontrolled wannabe-XML documents is not really a viable idea.

  • FOI Servlet non-unicode characters cannot be processed

    Hello,
I'm using Oracle MapViewer 10.1.3.1 quickstart kit to test some map features
my database is in CL8MSWIN1251 charset
I made a simple map application to display some data using JavaScript API
when I define a theme based FOI layer in the map and the predefined theme has some non-Unicode characters in the labeling or in hidden info fields I get the folowing error:
Cannot process the following response from FOI server:
    {"foiarray":[{"id":"AAARiqAAEAAAzFgAAA","name":"\u422\u414","gtype":"2001","imgurl":"http://localhost:8888/mapviewer/images/foi/p_16_13_MVDEMO_M.IMAGE131_BW.png","x":"50.0","y":"50.0","width":"16","height":"13","attrs":["987654321","100"]}],"attrnames":["BBB","Osn"]}
As you can see "\u422\u414" shoud be "\u0422\u0414" otherwise JavaScript cannot display characters in the right way. I think FOIServlet is the problem here.
Anyone has the same problems or has a solution for this problem pls

  • Unicode characters appear as      (boxes) in AIR for IOS

I am developing an application for iPhone and it has an input Text box. (Placed on stage from flash CS6). In the Desktop emulator everything works fine. But, on the actual phone, everything I type appears as       . But surprisingly, when I am inputting the text, (i.e. the textbox is in edit mode) the characters are displayed correctly. But as soon as I leave the box it appears as       . Is there someway I can display the text the same way it is displayed during the edit mode?
I am trying to input Devanagari देवनागरी characters.
P.S. I did some research on this and found that, if I specify the  font for the textbox = "DevanagariSangamMN" then there is some improvement.
I say improvement becasue althought the boxes       are replaced by actual characters , they aren't correctly formated.
For e.g. during edit mode the text appears as this: कार्यकर्ता
But as soon as I leave the textbox it appears as this: कार्यकर्ता (I typed this here by adding special unicode characters ZWNJ so that characters won't join)
Anyway, I don't like the idea of having to specify font names? What If some user would like to input chinese, how would I know what chinese font to use?
Isn't there some way to let IOS handle things, (just like how it handles things when I am inputing text).
    Thanks.
