I cannot unlock my iPhone 4S

Hey there, I have a huge problem.
I cannot unlock my iPhone 4S, because I cannot slide. The touchscreen works though, I do can pull up the control center or the upper thing where you can see all the messages you got and so, but when I try to tap on something on there, nothing happens. The assistent touch also works.
Siri doesn't work even though my home button is working.
I cannot turn off my phone, because the upper button is broken.
My phone neither fell down nor knocked against something or things like that, it happened pretty much out of the nowhere.
What is wrong and what can I do?
I hope you could understand this, I am from Germany so I do not know all the English words.
Thank you!
Marie

Hi Marie,
Do you have a backup of your phone on iTunes? Can you try to Restore the phone to the backup. It is a 50/50 chance and it will possibly fix any software related issues.
Follow these steps to restore your phone from backup using iTunes:
Connect your iOS device to the computer that has your backup.
Make sure this computer has the latest version of iTunes.
Choose File > Devices > Restore from Back up.
If you're using iTunes 10.7 or earlier, right-click the device from the list and choose Restore from Backup.
Hope this is of some assistance.

Hello, I am Lalo and I have the same problem. I was a former AT&T customer and I bought my iphone 4 to Mexico. I requested and filled out a form to unlock my iphone on december 17, 2013 and I received my response that my iphone has been unlocked. However, I already followed the steps to unlock but I getting the same message:
The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported.
The SIM card that you currently have installed in this IPhone is from a carrier.... so forth.
This is the email I receveid from AT&T on december 24.
    Request number:
Thank you for contacting AT&T Cutomer Care about unlocking your AT&T Mobile device.
We have reviewed your request and confirmed that the device may be unlocked.
Please allow 24 hours upon receipt of this notificacion to complete the unlock process.
    To complete the unlock, simply
    1. Open iTunes on your Mac or PC and verify that you have internet connectivity.
    2. Ensure a SIM card is inserted into your iPhone.
3 Connect your iPhone using the dock connector to USB cable that came with your iPhone.
4 Backup and restore your iPhone using iTunes. For imformation on back up and restore, please visith http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1414
    5. After restoring, your iPhone will be unlocked.
    and so forth.
I have been doing the restore process with the original AT&T sim card but with no success. I called AT&T and they told me that my iphone is already unlocked and I should have used the Mexican SIM card inside my iPhone while restoring but I ended up with the same message: The SIM card inserted in this iPhone does not appear to be supported, etc, etc.
I need your help because I do knot know what else to do, thanks.

Word. This is true. I will note that sometimes, depending on what iOS you are running and itunes version you have it won't notify you it has been unlocked. Also confirming what others have said it often takes days for them to fully release the unlock. You might recieve the unlock confirmation in your email, and even if you went to apple they might say "looks like its already been unlocked!" it sometimes takes an extra few days; annoying I know. Also, if it still doesn't work call att customer care, 18003310500, and get them to resubmit the unlock.
    Good luck,
    -T.

  • When I began using Iphone 4, my email address was attached to our provider which was Everest (Surewest).  My Iphone still has that email address but I can no longer access that email account and I now cannot unlock my Iphone.  Does anyone know how ?

When I purchased my I-phone 4 several years ago, our email service provider was Everest.  We no longer use Everest and I can no longer access that email address, but my I-phone is still attached to that email address, so I can not unlock this I-phone.  I have purchased a new I-phone and the same email address transferred to it when the information was transferred from my old phone to my new one.  In order to trade my old phone in for the new one, I must be able to unlock the old phone, which I have been unable to do since the old email address is not available to me.  Please help.

Having the email address is not necessary. It is just the username for the device. All you need is that Apple ID and password. Now, if you forgotten the password, then you have more work to do. Since that email is no longer active, you would need to send the reset to your rescue email, if you remember that. Or you will need to contact Apple Security for help. • Cannot unlock my Iphone

I have accidentally deleted all contents on my Iphone 4 using FindMyIphone. When I now try to connect it to Itunes I get the message that the sim card i locked and that I have to enter the pin code, but there is no place to enter the code. There is only a button with the text "Try again"? Can anyone help me?

You can bypass the passcode but you will lose all data and settings.  If you have a backup you can restore from that later.  Here are two explanations of how to do this:
    Bypass With Data Loss
    Bypass With Data Loss 2

  • Cannot unlock iPhone 4

I have tried everything I can find on this forum and the web and I cannot unlock my iPhone 4.  I cannot get the "congratulations you iPhone is unlocked" in iTunes.
I submitted the form to AT&T and got an email back saying they had granted my unlock request. I have since followed countless sets of instructions for unlocking - none have given me the message.
I first tried this all using the sim card that I have always had in the phone.  Then I figured maybe I needed a new sim card to cause the unlock to go through.  I bought a micro sim card from Consumer Cellular at Target and tried the process with it and still no joy.
Almost all of the instructions I have found are from 2012-13.  I tought maybe with the new iOS and OS there might be new procedures(?).
BTW - I no longer have service on this phone.  I want to unlock it and use it when I travel overseas.
    Please help me :-)

I like it when people post the resolution to their questions, So....
I activated the Sim card from the carrier it was from - put it in the phone at the "Hello" screen, and was able to make a call.  I guess something I did, one of those many sets of instructions I tried worked.  Sorry I don't know which ones.
I never got the "congratulations your iPhone is unlocked" message in iTunes.  Best I can tell iTunes no longer does this.
Now I have to do it all over again with my iPhone 5 :-)
    Thank you all.

  • HT201328 Carrier cannot unlock iphone 4

My carrier T-Mobile UK cannot unlock my iphone 4. They have sent the request to apple who have replied that it cannot be done, but with no further details. The handset is my own and I have reached the end of my contract with the carrier and wish to switch. The only advice T-mobile can give me is to contact Apple, but from the Apple website they direct me to my carrier for unlocking. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

That's a steaming pile of manure.
Carriers dictate when a device can and cannot be unlocked.  They send the request to Apple and Apple complies.
Contact the carrier, ask to speak to a manager or someone intelligent and demand an honest answer and resolution to your issue.

  • Is it possible for Apple to unlock my iPhone?

My iPhone apparently has a SimLock for Vodafone Germany. My two years of contracet with Vodafone Germany (required minimum time to be able to get it unlocked from Vodafone) are over.
Now my problem is as I had my iPhone swaped at the AppleStore so Vodafone can not unlock my iPhone because it is not an IMEI that they have in their systhem. Apple tells me that I have to talk to Vodafone. Now what Vodafone suggested is that they send me a certificat saying that I can have my iPhone unlocked and that I go do it at the AppleStore if that is possible. So that is actually my question: is it possible for me to get y iPhone unlocked at the AppleStore with the certificat from Vodafone?
    Thanks for any help
And one other thing... I was on an Apple site (I can not find it anymore) where I was in contact with an Apple support member via Chat. Does anyone know how to get to that site?
    Thanks again

Apple cannot unlock your iPhone via any "certificate". The only way it works is that the carrier generates an electronic unlock authorization which goes though Apple's automated process to get sent to iTunes on your computer. Sorry, but Vodaphone will have to figure out the IMEI issue on their end, and if they can't, then you probably will not be able to get your iPhone unlocked.
    Regards.

  • Is there a way to factory unlock my iPhone legally from Apple?

I bought my iPhone in Japan and now I am returning to India. I would like to do this legally. Does apple not support factory unlock at a price?

As is stated on this forum many times a day, Apple cannot unlock an iPhone without the authority of the network to which it is locked.
You need to contact the network in Japan that your iPhone is locked to and ask them if they allow unlocking of their phones, and if so, what the process is.
If they allow it, they will send the unlocking authorisation to Apple and the unlock will be done via iTunes.
Again... Apple cannot do the unlocking without the network giving them permission.

  • What Apple could do to unlock my iphone which I bought last year with the option at

I bought an iPhone 4 about a year ago at the Apple store in the Florida Mall in Orlandoin the form of no plan at & t and now I see the option of iphone unlocked factory, whatcould we do that we have a year ago to apple or at & t unlocked and can be used inother countries without the need to jailbreak or make changes to the original operating system?

Apple cannot unlock an iPhone on their own initiative; only the carrier can authorize an unlock. AT&T has not as of yet announced any plans to unlock an iPhone that was purchased as locked to them. Whether or not they will do so in the future, only AT&T would know, and they probably will not say unless and until they're ready to make an official announcement.
    Regards.

  • Can we unlock our iphone since there's the option to buy it unlocked?

Hi, I bought my iphone 4 on october 10' and, since I live in brazil, I could not use it. Since Apple has started selling unlocked Iphones, is there a way I can get apple to unlock mine?

I was not aware they would later reverse there thinking and come out with unlocked phones.
No-one was. That's what I mean by "things change over time". Maybe the exclusivity agreement with AT&T has expired. Maybe AT&T have changed their minds and now allow Apple to sell unlocked iPhones?
Even yesterday, supposedly knowledgable journalists were saying Apple would never sell unlocked iPhone's in the US:
    http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2386860,00.asp
How clueless does that guy look now..?
As far as your situation is concerned, Apple cannot unlock your iPhone without the authority of the network to which it is locked. So, AT&T will have to give Apple permission to unlock it. Currently, AT&T have not announced any change to their policy of not allowing AT&T iPhone's to be unlocked by Apple.

  • Can i unlock my iphone??

hi i got an iphone 4 and i wanna know how to unlock or view if i can do something

You cannot unlock your iPhone, nor can Apple.  Only the carrier it is locked to can unlock it.  Contact your carrier and have them unlock the phone.
Now, if you mean your iPhone is disabled due to misentry of a passcode, you can unlock it by restoring via the recovery mode according to the recovery mode instructions in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1808
