I cannot use any external monitor, it appear like the port doesn't work , i'm using the mini-dvi port with a VGA adaptor ,

I've always used the port normally with different monitor but by a couple of weeks it appear like no signal come out.
Does Anyone knows what can i do ? i.e. How to check or reset the Mini-dvi port ? or if there's any key on the keyboard that can habilitate it or not ?
Any Help will be appreciate
Thanks

Welcome to Apple Support Communities
You don't have to do anything to make the port work. Reset the SMC > http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964
If it doesn't work, try with another monitor to see if it works or another cable. If you haven't got another display, take the MacBook Pro to an Apple Store or reseller, so Apple will test the port and see if it works correctly

  • HT4951 Can i use a Thunder bolt display with an iMac from the mid 2009 ? Would it work if connected to a mini dvi port in a scaled down mode or is it compulsory to have a thunder bolt port ?

I have a mid 2009 iMac that doesn't have Thunderbolt display, but has a mini-dvi port.
Will the Thunderbolt cinema display 27" still work when connected to this mini-dvi port ?
I thought it would be better going for a thunderbolt display monitor rather than the older version, so when i upgrade my machine in the future it stays compatible.

No.  A TB display can only be connected to a TB source.
    Confusing Mini DisplayPort with Thunderbolt
As indicated in that artical a displayport device can be connected to a TB source.  But that is not your situation.

  • The Flash doesn't work Correctly when using Photo camera in iOS5

Hi ! I'e updated my iPhone 4 recently (yesterday) and this evening I've use it to make some photo and I've turn on the flash but when I take the photo the flash turn in advance or make a little glow and the photo saved result totally black. It is this bug to someone else? There's a solution ?

I'm having exactly the same problem. The flash goes off, but the resulting photo is completely dark. It seems as though the flash burst is not synchronized with the camera "shutter."
The camera seems to work fine otherwise, and if I record video with the flash on it looks fine. Flash photos looked fine before I upgraded my iPhone to IOS 5 today.
I'm wondering if it's a widespread problem—this is the only other mention of it I could find.

  • How do I use two external monitors with my laptop?

I have a new Pavilion dm4-301 d cl Entertainment PC.   My OS is Windows 7.   I am used to using two external monitors with a docking station.   This new laptop does not have a docking station.  What do I need to get  to use two external monitors?
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Certainly not without a dock but even with, HP laptop docks pretty well limit you to one of the external monitor ports, even if there are two on the dock. We have used a device called an Atlona AT-HDPIX2 which is a usb to hdmi adapter. It provides a third monitor capability for a laptop....use the native external monitor port and the internal laptop display and then this device gives a third monitor which is full configurable from the Windows 7 display interface...clone, extend, etc. It allows full HD resolution and is responsive enough for even light gaming.  HP makes no true docking station for your laptop.

  • Cannot connect 2 external monitors via port replicator using Portege Z30-16U

    Hi All
I need hell I just moved from a other laptop to the Portege Z30-16U, I have spent hours trying to connect my 2 external monitors to my Hi-Speed Port replicator III 120W but my laptop will only see one monitor.
I have been using 2 external monitors with my laptop for yrs as I do a lot or reading and I do not want to use only one and the laptop screen.
I have tried VGA cables and mix of a VGA and a HDMI but nothing is working.
Can anyone tell me how I can connect and view 2 external monitors with this laptop and port replicator, I cannot believe it is not possible it would make no sense that Toshiba would be so technilogically behind other laptop manufacturers.
    Thanks
    Liga

    Hi
I am not familliar with the Portreplicator of Z30, but the general behaviour of the dual-displayconnector replicators is that 1 can be used.
    Not 2 simultaneously.
I may be wrong and you should easily be able to check this - use only 1 at a time.
    First one, then the other.
If both works when used alone, then my suspicion is right.
    Hope this helps!

  • When I close my laptop lid and it goes to sleep so that I can use an external monitor, monitor does not turn on when I hit a key to start laptop

When I use my external monitor, I cannot get it to work after awakening my laptop using any key.  My monitor won't light up although laptop keyboard is backlit showing that it has come out of sleep mode.  Why does the monitor not get the signal from the laptop?

I still cannot figure out why it doesn't always work.  All parameters were met and my bluetooth keyboard is set correctly to wake the computer.  My keyboard becomes backlit, but my LG monitor does not pick up a video signal and is black and my laptop monitor is off.  The only way I can get out is to hold on button on laptop until it shuts down and I can start up again.  This happens on an intermittent basis.  Sometimes it works and other times I get black screens.   I need to know if I can use command F1 to get the laptop to detect the display or is their another key combination to send the signal to the external monitor when I can't see anything because I hate to do a hard shut down to get out of this mode!  Please advise!

  • Can you use any external display with a macbook?

    hi all,
I was just wondering, can you use any external display with a macbook? (i.e. gateway, and dell displays?)

    To original poster:
    Yes.
Provided you have the appropriate ports and cables, that is. Some monitors do not have all vga, dvi-i, dvi-d, hdmi, etc. ports, and it can be misleading that all those technologies appear to be compatible via conversion cables (they aren't all meant to be compatible, so look it up on the internet before buying).

  • Satellite Pro U300: DVD issue - error: cannot output to external monitor

    Hi,
I was having problems playing a dvd on my U300.
Basically the software would load but when I tried to play the dvd it said "cannot output to external monitor".
Having gone through all options I could not find anything to stop this happening. I then downloaded the latest software from the toshiba site.
    dvdpl-20070807102909.zip
I resintalled this but got the same error message.
I then uninstalled the software and tried to reinstall but now it just produces an error mesaage saying it cannot intsall the software on this computer.
    How can I reinstall this?
    Regards,
    Mark

I presume you have received the Toshiba Recovery CD. Am I right?
On this CD you can find the Toshiba image file. This image contains the Vista OS, Toshiba drivers, tools and additional software.
But note; you cannot install only a single program. To reinstall a application from the Recovery CD you have to format the HDD and have to reinstall the whole OS using the Recovery CD.
As Gipsyman said, the Toshiba driver page contains update and the original preinstalled software is needed.

  • Can't see post on a Presario CQ56-219WM while using an external monitor

I can't see any post info on a Presario CQ56-219WM while using an external monitor. The built-in monitor has been broken for some time and I've been using an external monitor via the vga port. Recently I had an issue with Windows and must now perform a system recovery. Whereas the built-in monitor does light up there is no portion that is viewable. It's damaged in a way that has everything totally distorted. I disconnected it hoping that the system would reroute directly to the external but unfortunately it didn't. I'm confident that my tinkering inside the laptop wasn't a factor since prior to disassembly the external monitor was never active until the system booted into Windows, plus I can reconnect the built-in monitor and it still lights up just as it did before.
Is there any known keystrokes to activate the external during post?...other than the F4 key

    Hello Kerdomrikman,
    Welcome to the HP Forums.
In regards to your question on known keystrokes to activate external during post, there aren't any. The graphics won't switch to external until after the post.
What you can try, if your able to veiw the BIOS on the external you can run diagnostics from there.
I hope this answers your question. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums.

  • Problem with my (And maybe all?) Y50 4K using an external monitor

Specs:16Gbs of RAM512GB SSD860M 4GBi7-4710HQ/etc/ Anyhow, I finally hooked this sucker up to my monitor (Via HDMI) and was having serious performance issues in games, and other things that would be gpu/cpu worthy. I've finally found part of the culprit, which is that when the laptop screen is closed, I get bad performance, when it is open, everything is working as intended. Basically I go from this (Open lid): https://i.imgur.com/AJujwly.jpgTo this (Closed lid): https://i.imgur.com/w9uAGlN.jpg (Usually runs even slower) I suspected that the computer may be ignoring my whitelist for BF4 (For the use of discreet graphics) upon closing the laptop and switching to integrated, however, I do not believe that's the case. Lid closed while discreet graphics is forced: 15 - 25 FPSLid open while integrated graphics is forced: 5 - 7 FPS So it appears the computer just has a weird bottleneck on the GPU/CPU whenever the lid to the laptop is closed.  I have: 1. Looked through my bios2. Made sure high power settings stayed when the lid was closed/while plugged in or on battery.3. Made the computer stay awake when the lid is closed (Duh, don't know why people keep recommending this :L )4. Whitelisted the program via Nvidia's control panel to use Discreet graphics5. Tried using external monitor as extended display, and all other possible forms. All to no-avail. Anyone with a Lenovo Y50, or Lenovo Y50-4K want to confirm this issue is not just with myself? Thanks!

I am not Y50 user but I believe it is not bizzare at all. When you think of New Approach Thermal Design™  the producer is introducing in their recent models (link, link - look at the Temperature section) I can bet lot of heat dissipate up through the keyboard. Closing the lid you actually stop (or severely reduce) that heat dissipation  This can cause throttling issue.

  • Cannot connect a external monitor

I have a 2012 macbook pro and have been using a external monitor for a few months, when suddenly it stopped working. So I thought it must be the adapter and I ordered a new one. It came in yesterday and still its not working. I connect and my monitor, or tv does nothing. My laptop does the blue transition screen and starts functioning like there is a second monitor but there isnt anything there. I've tested the cable it works with my pc. I've tested it with different monitors and tv's but nothing.
So I figure it must be something with my settings or with the actual port itself, any help?

Sounds like a hardware issue.  I'd take it to the genius bar and/or an apple repair to see if the output card is working or not.

  • Can macbookpro be used with the lid closed while using multiple external monitors

I want to use macbook pro with external monitors and be able to close the lid on the laptop, but can't figure out how to make that works with multiple monitors.  I currently use two external monitors with the laptop monitor as my third.  All are independent monitors and I accomplish this using the matrox diamond bvu-195 product (one for each external monitor).  Now I would like to add a third external monitor and be able to close the laptop lid - kind of like you would do with a docking station for a Windows laptop.  Anyone have any suggestions as to how to accomplish this?

Connecting your present two external displays via USB has left your MBP's Mini-DisplayPort available for a third. Depending on the monitor's available inputs, buy a mini-Displayport-to-VGA, MDP-to-DVI, or MDP-to-HDMI adapter and the appropriate cable to make the connection. I would expect that adding a third monitor to your GPU's workload might cause your already slow USB-connected monitors to slow down farther, but you'll have to see whether that's true and, if so, how tolerable it is in your work.
As for what will happen when you close the built-in display, I suspect that what happens if you do that now will continue to happen if you do it with a third monitor connected. If you can now close the display and run the machine in closed-clamshell mode, I expect you'll still be able to do so after adding the third external screen.

  • How do I use an external monitor with my MacBook??

    Hi,
I recently purchased my MacBook, but when I am at home, I want to be able to use my MacBook like a normal computer, by plugging a keyboard, mouse and my existing LCD monitor to it.
What do I need to purchase to enable this and what system settings do I need to adjust to get my monitor to work?
Could I have my laptop closed while i am using my external monitor? How do I do this? I don't want my MacBook open, while I am using my monitor!! Can someone please give me a simple step by step guide on how to turn on and use my laptop which my external monitor plugged in.
Thank you very much for your help.
