i installed windows xp using boot camp Boot Camp Assistant 4.0.1 version, which was on system along with macbook pro 15", quad core processor,
windows were also installed with the partitions, but after windows were installed, drivers were missing and wen i went back through options to open boot camp on mac os it boot camp was nt working,  i deleted the partion where i installed windows xp, and then too boot camp options to make partion is nt showing, kindly guide to repair BOOT CAMP ASSISTANT, and also how can i upgrage my Os frm lion 10.7.3 to mountain loin.

Reinstall OSX using the online recovery.
Then use Boot Camp Assistant. One of the Boot Camp Assistant menu items is download the Windows Support Software (drivers). Make sure you follow the Boot Camp instructions.
Or, Reinstall OSX using the online recovery.
Then install a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox. Then install Windows in the virtual machine.
You can use either Boot Camp or a virtual machine to install Windows. Neither method requires any driver cds.

  • Cannot use Boot Camp Assistant

I just installed Leopard 10.5 en updated it to 10.5.1. If I try to open Boot Camp Assistant, I get the message: 'You should update the Boot-ROM-firmware of your computer before you use Boot Camp Assistant'. Does anyone knows where I can find this firmware?

I a having the same issue only with a macbook. This is the same message I got when I tried one of the later beta versions. I ended up just using one of the older ones until I installed leopard (yesterday). Before installing leopard I restored my hard drive to a single volume so I could use the new boot camp. It tells me I need to Update my Boot ROM firmware and I have found the correct update but when I go to install it the updater tells me that I do not need it. This is so frustrating.

  • Can I use the migration assistant to migrate my Mac Book Pro to my new MacBook Air. Is there any problem with this since the platforms are not identical?

I have Mac Book Pro ( bought November 2010) that I want to migrate all of the data and applications from, over to a new Mac Book Air? It was suggested that I use the Migration Tool as it is supposed to make an exact clone of the Mac Book Pro machine and put it on the Mac Boor Air. Can that really work if you are going from one platform to another?
I was also told I could restore the data from my time capsule to the MacBook Air.
I'm looking for the easiest method that will leave me with as little to do as possible to get up an running on the Mac Book Air afterwards. I'm not a real strong user and don't want to have to reconfigure applications to make them work.
    Thanks

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Connecting your MacBook Pro and your MacBook Air will be the fastest way, but you have to spend money on cables and adapters (also, your MacBook Pro doesn't support Thunderbolt).
As you have a Time Capsule, one thing you can do is to start your MacBook Pro and make a Time Machine backup. Then, turn on your MacBook Air and set it up. Setup Assistant will ask you to restore a backup, so select the option to restore the backup from the Time Capsule and be patient. This can take a lot of time if you have to migrate a lot of files

  • Boot camp 2.1 with unibody Mac Book Pro is a mess

The boot camp 2.1 drivers (on the OS X disk) refused to install with various error messages. After weeks of going around with apple support, reinstalling windows repeatedly, it was decided to reformat reinstall Mac OS X, run apple update, then install boot camp (i.e. a from the factory clean system).
The problem has never been creating the partition or installing windows xp pro sp2. The problem is the Mac OS X driver disk not installing at all with windows error 2755, 2869.
After reinstalling Mac OS X, this time the apple driver disk produced 3 distinct errors, but the final dialog said the drivers did install successfully(progress?).
The errors, in chronological order, are:
    1) Error dialog - the specified module could not be found. OK button, no error message to send to Microsoft. The driver disk continued...
    2) Error dialog - MSIEXEC.EXE, with an error message to send to Microsoft. The driver disk continued...
    3) Error dialog - Application executable file error, needs to close, with an error message to send to Microsoft. The driver disk continued...
Does anyone know what these mean? Did the drivers install completely or partially?
More importantly, what do I do now? I have not done anything with the Mac (its a boat anchor), waiting for more information. My choices are...
    1) Ignore the error messages and assume everything is fine and start updating windows and loading mac/windows software to start using the computer. My fear is this will create an unstable computer and I will waste a lot of time installing software.
    2) Use add/remove to remove apple's drivers and try reinstalling them. My fear is the drivers will simply not install at all(the original problem).
    3) Is there another option?
Any guidance on what to do?
    Thanks
    bob

I saw exactly the same issues (Error 2869 and 2755) when attempting to install drivers from the OSX install disk after installing Windows XP Professional SP2.
I ran sfc /scannow and chkdisk. chkdisk identified many date problems. I corrected the date and time on my 15" MacBook Pro unibody, and re-ran chkdisk until there were no errors.
Mac drivers then installed with no issues.

  • Problems installing Windows 7 using boot camp assistant

I have followed the guide form the Apple website and using boot camp assistant, I have managed to install Windows 7 Home Premium up to a point.
When the IMac re-boots and starts up in Windows 7 it tries to complete the installation but neither my mouse, keyboard or trackpad work.
This means I cannot enter a computer name in the first windows 7 screen, which in turn prevents the completion of the installation and the installation of the drivers for the keyboard, mouse and trackpad.
Does anyone have an idea how I can complete the installation?
    I am using a 2012 IMac 27".
    Thanks

    Hi,
yes I used boot camp for everything and followed what was advised on the Apple web page. The USB remains in the back of the machine and it did download the windows drivers etc, but it doesn't seem to have installed them yet.
If I'm reading help manual properly, it is supposed to install them after windows 7 has been installed. But I can't get past the first Windows screen asking me to name my windows computer.
If I obtain a USB keyboard will that run without any drivers being required?
    Thanks

  • I'm trying to install Windows XP on my Leopard 10.5.8 using Boot Camp Assistant but when it restarts it says I should insert a bootable disk even though I didn't remove the installer from the drive. What should I do?

More info: I'm using an external CD drive because the built-in one doesn't work for some reason.
Also I went back and deleted the partition (also using Boot Camp Assistant) and just gave up on installing XP, but now every time I turn on my macbook I have to press the Option key to mount the Mac HD. If I don't, it returns to the black screen that says I have to insert the bootable disk and press any key. How do I stop this problem? I've already verified the disk and permissions, plus repaired it. It's still the same.

Go into your system preferences and click the startup disk icon then select your Mac HD.

  • I need help with boot camp. "Back up the disk and use Disk Utility to format it as a single Mac OS Extended (Journaled) volume. Restore your information to the disk and try using Boot Camp Assistant again."

It says it's not available because the startup disk is selected.
I don't know what to do or how to go about both these problems.

  • Unable to Install Windows 7 using Boot Camp Assistant

I recently suffered a hard disk failure. After replacing the disk, I have recovered all data with the exception of being unable to install windows 7 on a new boot camp partition.  I am able to create the partition using boot camp assistant, but I am subsequently been unable to install windows following the directions provided.  Any help would be appreciated.  I have a late 2009 27" iMac running OSX Mavericks.

It depends of the OS X version you're using. If it's 10.6, insert the Mac OS X DVD and install them.
    If it's 10.7 or 10.8:
    1. Press X key while your Mac is starting to start into OS X.
    2. Open Boot Camp Assistant, download drivers and burn them into a DVD or USB drive.
    3. Start into Windows and install Boot Camp drivers

  • HT5639 Can I use Boot Camp to install Linux on my MacBook Pro?

Can I use Boot Camp to install Linux on my MacBook Pro?

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities
Boot Camp wasn't designed to install Linux. Apart from that, the Boot Camp version included in OS X Mountain Lion will ask you to insert a Windows 7 or Windows 8 DVD in order to run Boot Camp, as far as I know.
Apple doesn't support Linux on Macs, but it works properly on Macs. There are a lot of how-to's in the Internet about the steps to install Linux and the different possibilities you have. Also, what distribution do you want to install on the computer? You should also consider the option to install Linux on a virtual machine

AFAIK, there's no app that'll clone the Mac and PC volumes so you can restore them. System Image Utility.app or Deploy Studio for Mac and Ghost for PC are needed. See these for starters:

  • In start disc mode can I use a external USB flash drive on MAC Book Pro

In start disc mode can I use a external USB flash drive on MAC Book Pro?

To do what? Yes you can connect a USB flash drive to the system and if it has the Recovery HD files on it you can boot from it. If it has the OS X install files on it you can boot from it. If it is large enough to contain a Time Machine backup on it you can restore your system from it.
So what do you want to do with the USB thumb drive?
