I Cant a CD or DVD on my pc

I installed a missing codec,but I still cant play the file.WHY?

First of all you cannot import a DVD movie into iTunes.
Are the disks you are working with commercially produced CDs and DVDs? What happens if you insert a blank CD or DVD into the machine, is it recognized.
If none of these work, you have a problem with your optical drive. You'll need to get it replaced.
Best of luck.

I do not know about Disk Warrior but if you have a compatible OSX on an external HDD you certainly can boot the MBP.  Use startup manager:

  • HELP! MacBook Pro cant recognise or burn DVDs but only CDs, and...

    Hi all
I noticed that there many of you have the same problem, but I really need some advice here, my MacBook Pro cant recognise or burn DVDs but only CDs, well actually occasionally it does recognise the DVDs then it burn but cannot write (on Toast), also in many other apps, like iDVD or DVDSP, it does run well on the first part of the burning but then failed at the end, with all kinda diff error msg. I have tried using many diff brands of disc too, inc verbatim.
So I borrowed my friends external DVD writer (actually a cheapy one with no brand), when I tried to burn using the external then an error msg comes up and says the writer cannot recognise the disc.
I dont wana get the MBP to repair but just wana get a external DVD writer to solve the problem, cos i need to use my computer and dont have a replacement mac, but now I am worry if the problem i now having is a system problem or just hardware, not sure if it is because the DVD writer i borrow is cheapy so it doesnt cope with mac, or just my MBP have system error that cant burn DVDs...
But my MBP can burn CDs so it is not a hardware problem? and if that is a system problem so even I buy a new DVD writer wont solve the problem?
btw, I have tried many solving methods like rewriting permission, reset PVRAM, etc
    PLSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS HELP

I'm having the same problem you are on my 2.4GHZ Core2Duo MBP running 10.5.2. It will sometimes recognize DVDs, sometimes not... it chuggs and clunks and then spits the disc out. If i re-insert it a view times it will show up on the desktop. I get failures from Toast as well as iDVD. If i keep trying i have been able to burn files onto a disc with the finder, but then the burner fails during the verification. If put the disc back in the contents appear to be correct (after a quick look). Burning CD-Rs seems to be working fine, that with the occasional DVD write seems to point away from the HW. I am trying with both Memorex DVD+RW and Verbatim DVD-Rs...
I have tried the command/option-PR reset combo with no luck.
    Any ideas?
    thanks,
    -graham
PS the specific error i got from iDVD was: The error #-2147352539 was reported…

  • IMac G5 cant read and write DVD-R

Hi. I have iMac G5 1.9 with Superdrive MATSHITADVD-R UJ-846 with Firmware Revision: FA0G. Everything was OK, I was able to burn DVD-R and DVD+R too, but now Superdrive ejects all DVD-R disks. I cant burn it, I cant read it. DVD+R are working correctly.
System Profile is saying, that I can burn DVD-R and DVD+R:
    D-Write: -R, -RW
    DVD-Write: -R, -RW, +R, +RW, +R DL
but everythime I try it, the disk is ejected.
What is a problem? Can anybody help please.
    Thank you.

    To Apple Discussions!
Make sure you have enough storage space to burn.
Make sure the DVDs are not scratched, smudged and/or dirty.

If your drive needs cleaning, cleaning kits can be purchased from any store that sells CD/DVDs.
Also, check your Mac OS Help Menu for troubleshooting tips. In the search field type dvd.
You can also open up the "Utilites Folder">Disk Utility.
At the bottom left of the window, click on the black ? mark inside the purplecircle.
The help window will open up.
Enter dvd in the search field.

  • Cant hear audio from dvd imported footage

I transformed some footage obtained on my camera to a dvd, and im working on it, but i cant hear the audio and when i pass it to the timeline doesnt appear any audio at all, when i view my clips on viewer i can hear the audio but not when working on it. The dvd works fine and seen at dvd player its all ok, the problem is working on final cut, im new but learning quickly and this is getting me on my nerves, please give me a solution.

Handbrake http://handbrake.fr/?article=download also works well, but I personally like MPStreamclip better.
I recommend outputting to DV or 100% quality quicktime H.264 so you don't loose any video quality. DV will probably encode a bit faster than quicktime, but will also take up more space.

  • Problems installing Windows 7 with boot camp, cant find the cd/dvd driver...

I´m having some problems installing Windows 7 on my new 12,1 (21,5) iMac with boot camp. When the computer restarts and the Windows 7 setup begins, i get the message that the cd/dvd driver cant be found, so i can't continue the installation. I've tried searching online for the driver, but can't find it. The cd/dvd seems to be a OPTIARC cd/dvd ad-5690h, which seems to be produced by Sony. I have a authentic windows 7. I even tried loading everything ver to a usb-drive, but then it wont boot.

After reading around on this, and other forums I tried to burn a new dvd at reduced speed(2x), but that did'nt work either... I have an authentic windows 7 iso, downloaded with serial, is there any way to boot this from a jump drive or external hdd?

  • Cant select button in dvd menu

I have made a dvd menu in dvd studio pro 2, i can select the buttons with the control in the simulator, but then when i have burnt the dvd and try to do the same on my tv with the real remote control, I cant select the buttons.
Is there something under "remote control" I should choose specifically, "menu" perheps?
    Plaese help, it's so frustrating

Is just one of your buttons selected when the menu starts up (it should be... the default button usually is selected)?
If so then I'll suggest looking at your button navigation - click on a button and check in the propertry inspector to see if the navigation has been set up - if not you can do it manually and specify which button you go to when any directional arrow on your handset is pressed, or you can let DVDSP assign the navigation automatically.
The latter is done from the 'settings' drop down box in the menu editor. I usually leave it until I have got the buttons into position before I add the navigation, because keeping them 'auto assigned' really slows down building the menu or moving buttons around.

  • Cant burn DL+R DVD media with 20" iSight iMac

Apple spec pages say this system's superdrive can do DL+R, System Profiler/Disk Burning/DVD Write sometimes says DL+R, but most of the time it just lists -R, -RW.
I'm trying to burn with Toast 7. Toast sees the DL media, and claims the drive will burn DL+R, but when I go to burn it just gets stuck on "Preparing" and never actually burns. Cant completely kill the application and must restart the iMac to eject the media.
    Using Mitsubishi brand media.
Here's what System Profiler says today (though five minutes ago, it did say it supported DL+R)
    MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846:
    Firmware Revision: FA0G
    Interconnect: ATAPI
    Burn Support: Yes (Apple Shipped/Supported)
    Cache: 0 KB
    Reads DVD: Yes
    CD-Write: -R, -RW

    Burn Underrun Protection CD: Yes
    Burn Underrun Protection DVD: Yes
    Write Strategies: CD-TAO, CD-SAO, DVD-DAO
    Media: No
    Any advice is appreciated.

I have the same problem. I have just bought DVD Creator from MP4Converter Software Studio. And it works great with DVD-R 4.7Gb disks. But when I try to burn DVD+R DL disks they eject after about 50 seconds and I get a prompt "Burn failed". I have tried saving the files as both DVD Folder and DVD Image but the result is the same for both. I bought DVD+R DL because that is what is specified in my System Profiler.
System Profiler detects the disk correctly:

  • Cant startup from installation DVD

I have just bought a 2nd hand 13" Aluminium MacBook
    1. I insert the Installation Leopard DVD and restart holding the C key but it doesnt start up on the DVD but on the HDD
    2. I go to system prefs and choose the Leopard DVD as the startup disk. When I restart it cant seem to find the startup dick but repeatedly gives the blue screen and the startup chime until I press the eject key, eject the DVD. Then it starts up on the DVD
    Have I bought a dud?

Did they supply you with the original discs that came with the Mac?
If not, you should demand that they do, or if they lost the said discs, to call AppleCare and send them to you. Without the said discs, you may not be able to boot your machine, or install anything on it.
Mac OS X 10.5.6 retail was released December 15, 2008.
Any Mac released new after that date, can't use the retail release, and must use the discs that came with the Mac, until Snow Leopard is released, or if for some reason Apple releases a newer retail 10.5.
Read the Mac's serial number. If is of the format:
    W80849 to W809xx, XX0849 to XX09xx it can't use the retail 10.5 installer disc.
No Mac can use the installer disc from a Mac of a different vintage or model.
'C' key doesn't always work for booting. If they did supply the original discs, the startup manager may be necessary:

  • Cant burn my first DVD

New to Apple, using a new Powerbook G4 with IDVD5
made a 10 minute slideshow with music on Imovie and burned it to DVD using IDVD....tried to play it in DVD player and on the apple and I get the message
    "supported disc not avaliable"
I burned it on a Fuji DVD-RW, seemed to work, chose the region (1) and this is all I get
    thanks for any help
    noobie.

OK, Im looking at the burned DVD and the files are
    .BUP, .IFO, and .FOB
    is this right?
Yes. The VIDEO_TS folder should contain those files. The AUDIO_TS folder will be empty.
You should be able to open Apple's DVD Player application in your Applications folder and play that VIDEO_TS folder. Give it a try.
If it works, (and was a disk image .img file) you can burn the disk image file to a DVD with Disk Utility. (There are several versions around, but this should work for you.) http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=DiskUtility/10.5/en/duh1884.html Burning a disk image on a CD or DVD

  • Cant´t make my dvd burner work!!

I want to burn my photos on a dvd, and all I get is an error code 0x8002006e, anyone who knows what this means?
    Thanks!

When you drag the folder, are those files copied or just copied the shortcut.
You can look at the files icon on the dvd media, if the icons are comes with small arrow on the botom left, then you might only copy shortcut.
Try to drag it while you pressing (alt) option key and it will show green plus sign when you drag it down.
And try to burn after that.
    Good Luck.

  • 3000 J 115 Vista Premium 32bit - cant boot from CD/DVD drive to do clean Windows7-64bit install

My 3000 J 115 Windows Vista Home Premium desktop configuration is as follows:
    - an EISA area
    - 2 SATA HDD
    - 2 IDE HDD
    - 1 IDE DVD-RW drive
I changed the BIOS boot order so that the CD/DVD drive is first. Upon rebooting, the CD/DVD drive light comes on at bootup time, but later it proceeds to boot from HDD.
I tried removing all other HDDs from the boot device list so that the CD/DVD drive is the only boot device - then I get the msg "NTLDR is missing. Press CtrlAltDel to restart".
The machine will boot only if the C drive HDD is on the bootable device list - the C drive is on the original disk that came with the machine (that disk also has the EISA partition). And then, it wont boot from the CD/DVD even if it is the first on the boot device list. Finally, it shows up all OS's on the OS selection screen at bootup even when the HDDs on which those OS's reside are not present in the boot list (I guess this is again because of the EISA).
I need to boot from the CD/DVD to do a clean install of Windows7 64bit from the bootable Windows installation CD. How can I get my machine to do that? (I checked my jumper and cable settings for the IDE drives and they seem to be ok)

I've had a similar issue trying to install Windows 7 on my mid-2010 MacBook Air, getting stuck at the Mac not recognising the USB Stick as a bootable device.
The rEFIt Toolkit solved this for me - simply install, reboot, and your stick shows up. From there everything was smooth sailing for me

I cant install the full program only the windows, but none of the templates or transitions ro anything, I cant do anything in the program. When i go to install the templates it says i dont have the required hardware or my computer doesnt soppurt the installation method. If anyone has any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate them. Thanks in advance.

Since you meet the spec I'd think about something regarding the OS.
check for updates; in particular I think there was a firmware update.
    Fix Disk Permissions-good habit
Move the DVDSp plist to the desktop, restart DVDSP (from the application, not a project).
check the Library/Application Support/DVDSP folder. This is where the templates need to reside. If they are there then DVDSP, the application, has lost this information. If they are not there then the install process has not worked completely.
Create another user on this machine with similar privilges. If this user is successful then there is some (?) bogus user prefeences. Not sure what to look for but a combination of bad preferences might be suspect.
