• I cannot attach files in Gmail within Firefox. I can attach files in Gmail from Chrome and IE.

I know it has been mentioned elsewhere too ( https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/999383 ), but I cannot reply to that message... so, here it is again, with full details of the testing we have performed so far....
ALL users or our organization are currently affected.
When you try to attached a doc, xls, pdf, etc. in Gmail the results are all the same in Firefox. You get a red bar with "attachment failed" and an option to cancel or retry.
We have tested with our Proxy On and Off. We have tested with no extensions loaded (I get the message with my 3 extensions on or off -- Adblock+, Ghostery, HTTPS Everywhere). Versions on which the issue has been seen include 25, 26, 28, 28.0.1 and 29.0.1 (the latest as of this post). Most users in our organization do not use extensions with Firefox.
Attachments link up just fine in IE 10 and 11, and Chrome (with Adblock, Ghostery, and HTTPS Everywhere turned on). This error is only seen in Firefox, with or without plug-ins.
Operating Systems used for testing were Windows 7 and Windows 8.1.
The issue was first reported to us today, 5/13/14, but it is unknown if the issue has been around longer. However, Firefox is our organization's default browser due to countless web software vendor recommendations. We most likely would have heard before today if the issue has happened previously.
Any tips or suggestions would be welcome here.

Without trying any of the fixes, the issue seems to have gone away on its own. All users (of about 7 reporting in) can attach files within Gmail using Firefox as of 5/15. We did not try any of the 4 fixes listed above. On 5/13 and 5/14, users could not attach files to Gmail messages within Firefox.
However, on the day of the issue we did try all the mentioned fixes (except #4). All affected users had all history and cache wiped, updated to v29.0.1, and the latest Flash plug-in from Adobe.com. We have the browsers set to clear all history, temp files, cookies, etc. at exit to avoid any cached data issues. We tried with proxy on and off too. Attachments were in the 20K-35K range, so very small. They failed on 5/13 and 5/14 within Firefox, but attached fine in IE and Chrome on the same days.
So, not sure what the issue was, what caused, or why it went away... but we cannot reproduce today, as of 5/15.
Thanks for the tips. I'll bookmark them if the issue reappears.

• I updated safari to 7.0.3 and pages to 5.2 and can no longer attached files in gmail that are pages or exported to word. Any suggestions?

I updated safari to 7.0.3 and pages to 5.2 and can no longer attached files in gmail that are pages or exported to word. Any suggestions?

I have a similar issue.
After updating Pages to 5.2, all Word export documents are 10 times the size they'd normally be.
A normal exported .DOC file that would have been under 200K, is now 1.7MB once exported. !!! ???
This is a major issue with Pages.

• Can't attach files in Gmail

I am having a major problem with trying to attach files in Gmail in both Firefox and Safari. Has only started happening today. Has been ok before this. Everytime I click on the atachment link and it brings up the Finder file with files to choose from, it then just crashes and I can't even choose anything or get out of the Finder and Files. Have to click Force Quit. Not sure what is going on. I don't know if this is a Mac problem or I should be in Google support.
Thanks

I have done a Virus Screen and got rid of 3 phising files
You didn't mention what you used to scan for malware, but phishing files are often e-mails which should not be deleted using the Finder or any A-V software as it will almost certainly corrupt the mailbox index and could cause mail issues going forward.
Your problem isn't being caused by malware and as long as you are keeping your Lion OS X fully up-to-date and do not disable it's malware protection, there is no currently known malware that can impact your Mac.
also did a malware screen and got rid of something called 'Genieo' All now in Trash.
Did you use TheSafeMac's Adware Removal Tool to get rid of Genieo? If not, then there are likely additional adware files installed which could easily be causing browser crashes.

• I cannot attach files to gmail. Tried everything including reset, uninstall, clearing history cookies and cache, nothing helps

cannot attach files to gmail despite doing everything even tried safemode

Try to set the network.http.spdy prefs to false on the about:config page.
*network.http.spdy.enabled
*network.http.spdy.enabled.v2
*network.http.spdy.enabled.v3

Boot the computer in Windows Safe mode with network support (press F8 on the boot screen) as a test to see if that helps.

• Cant attach photos to gmail

first post here for me- i'm struggling to work out how to attach photos to to my composed gmail messages. I'm clicking on 'attach file' then 'choose file' but cant find any where amongst my documents, files and applications etc my photo libary from which to choose my photos.
I've tried bringing up iphoto, select a photo and drag/droping it onto the composed gmail message but that doesn't work either..
I know its got to be some simple way but I can't find it?
help...

Greetings,
Welcome to Discussions.
The simply way only works if you use Mail to send your emails, not a webmail interface like gmail.com. You know, you can setup Gmail as a POP account in Mail. Then just choose the picture in iPhoto and click the Email button.
However, if you wish to continue to use the webmail interface (or another email app like Eudora) then you must choose the picture in iPhoto and choose to Share -> Export. Choose your desktop and I suggest that you scale large images to no more than 640 along the largest dimension. With Gmail, this is not such an issue, but the reader still has to download it. Then once it is on your desktop, you can attach it using the Choose method you describe. Then you can delete the file from you desktop after you send the email.
There is not advisable way to get the actual photo from where iPhoto stores it other than exporting it as noted.

• On OSX 10.9.2 can't attach files to gmail.

I am running OSX 10.9.2. Trying to attach any local file to a gmail message causes Firefox to hang. It gets to the upload screen and then comes the spinning beach ball. Must start Finder and kill Firefox. I have 'Reset' Firefox. I have also uninstalled and reinstalled Firefox. Can attach files OK to gmail with Safari. Problem occurred very suddenly. No obvious updates occurred. Thank you for any help on this problem. Its bad.

Two things you can do for me.
1) Can you start by giving us the troubleshooting information from the Firefox installation that's having problems
*Click the Firefox button at the top left, then click the ''Help'' menu and select ''Troubleshooting Information'' from the submenu. If you don't have a Firefox button, click the Help menu at the top and select ''Troubleshooting Information'' from the menu.
Now, a new tab containing your troubleshooting information should open.
*At the top of the page, you should see a button that says "Copy text to clipboard". Click it.
*Now, go back to your forum post and click inside the reply box. Press Ctrl+V to paste all the information you copied into the forum post.
2) Can you try to start Firefox in Safe Mode to see if Firefox works properly with no error? You can start Firefox in Safe Mode below:
*'''Windows/Mac''': Go to Help > Restart with add-ons disabled
*'''Linux''': Run ''firefox -safe-mode'' in the Terminal/Konsole
If Firefox opens up fine with no problems, it's probably one of your extensions that's causing the issue. You can re-enable your add-ons one by one until you find the one that causes the issue upon being re-enabled.

• Has anybody encountered problems attaching files to gmail when run in firefox

Trying to attach a file (I tried pdf, word, excel files) to a gmail when running in Firefox ended with an "Unable to attach file" statement. However, in IEX and Safari the same works properly.
Anybody an idea about this problem?

Hi,
Please check if this happens in a [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/Managing-profiles new profile]. If the new profile is okay, you can then [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/reset-firefox-easily-fix-most-problems Reset Firefox] on the old (previous) profile via '''Help''' ('''Alt''' + '''H''') > '''Troubleshooting Information'''.

• Can't attach files in Gmail since upgrading

Since upgrading to Snow Leopard, I can't attach files either in Safari (4.0) or Firefox (3.5.2) in gmail. I've upgraded to the latest version of flash.
Does anyone else have this problem -- and a solution, hopefully?
I'm using gmail's 'Advanced Attachment' features. Turning this off solves the problem, but even the 'advanced' setting worked before Snow Leopard.
Thanks,

Usability and interface issues with Gmail aside, I did figure something out. (I don't really use Gmail, it just seemed like a good at the time when I was setting up an account for a friend so I could help out with issues.)
I couldn't add attachments to a new message either. In fact, when I clicked the link to add an attachment, the link disappeared. I discarded the message, opened a new one, click the add attachment link, and the link disappeared again.
Turning off the blocking of pop-up windows didn't change the outcome.
So I opened a new message and looked around.
I noticed a little icon in the upper right of the message, just above the To: field, a sort of double square with an arrow in it. It looked almost like icon used on Windows to indicate maximizing the window for full screen, except it had an arrow that looked like the "Forward" arrow when you want to forward a message instead of replying. No tool tip came up so I decided to try it.
This made the message disappear, and popped open a new smaller window which eventually loaded the message. Looked about the same as before but without the rest of Gmail. Curiously, the add attachments link actually worked, without disappearing. A dialog popped open (looked like from the OS, not a browser window) and I was able to select a file. It appeared listed below the subject and above the message, with a progress indicator that took several seconds (half a minute?) before any progress happened. It did eventually get started and completed the upload.

• Can't attach files in gmail since installing Leopard

Recently installed OX X 10.5 Leopard and ever since, I can't attach files to outgoing Gmail emails.
I've tried in Safari, Camino and Firefox -- no luck.
It does work if I switch to the "older version" of Gmail.
Does anybody know if there's a setting I can change so I can use Gmail normally but be able to add attachments to mail?
Anybody else having this issue?

Your profile indicates you are running a very old version of Leopard which might explain the issue.
Update to 10.5.8 using the combo update (not the auto software update) and see if that fixes your problem.

• I can't attach files in gmail using firefox, can you help?

Hello,
I'm not sure if my previous question went through, so I apologize if this is a duplicate. Starting today I'm unable to attach a file to email when using firefox (31.0), function works when using Safari. When I click on the "attach file" button, my search browser does not open. Nothing happens.
I've read through previous posts of similar problems, have restarted my computer, uninstalled and reinstalled firefox, and cleared my history and cache. Unfortunately none of these attempts have been successful.
Thank you for your time,
Shea

If you can't add attachments to Gmail messages then you need to add an allow exception to allow pop-ups for the Google website.
Easiest to do this is to click the padlock on the location bar and click the "More Information" button to open the "Tools > Page Info" window with the Security tab selected.
Proceed to the Permissions tab
Remove the tick on "Open Pop-up Windows" > "Use Default" and click the Allow radio button to change the permission to allow pop-ups for this domain.

• Cant attach files in hotmail

none of the buttons for attach, images, office docs, emoticons or from bing will work, they go underlined when i roll my mouse over but you cant actually click on them, nothing happens
I'm fairly certain this is a problem with MY mac not with hotmail, or with macs in general as I can attach files from other macs and pcs
Does anyone know what settings I might have changed for this to occur? I'm sure that I have been able to attach files from my mac before, this is an ongoing problem but I have had my mac for just over a year and if it was a problem from the word go I'm certain I would have sorted it out before now as I need to attach files to e mail quite often
I'm using firefox already, I say this because most the answers I found to similar problems was to use firefox instead of safari

Hi,
Don't know if your problem has been solved by now? If not:
I had the same problem you're having with Safari/hotmail attachments and found a thread mentioning the same problem in Firefox. Someone suggested removing the Silverlight plugin - you know the thing you had to install to see a slideshow in Safari/hotmail.
I just did that and my problem has been solved - can finally attach again!
Here is the link how to (un)install Silverlight:
http://www.microsoft.com/getsilverlight/Get-Started/Install/removing-silverlight -mac.aspx
Hope that helps!

• Problems attaching files in gmail in Safari

I use Safari v 3.1.2 and have had consistent trouble attaching files to email messages in Gmail. I turned off rich text formatting and now compose in plain text, but that hasn't solved the problem. Sometimes a workaround is to attach the file before typing anything in a clean email message, but this isn't a guaranteed fix. If I reply to all or try to attach after composing something, Gmail hangs on "still working..." I have absolutely no problems attaching files in Firefox. Others I know who use Safari and Gmail complain about the same problem. I don't know whether this is Apple's or Google's wrongdoing but the problem is extremely annoying and I'm wondering if anyone has a fix. Thank you very much.

Hi Michael,
One quick test you can do to help narrow down things is to try and download something in another user account. This will help us to know whether your problem is local to your account or system wide. If you don't have another account you can use System Preferences -> Accounts -> [+] to create a test one (and [-] to remove it if needed)
Does the page appear to refresh itself when you click on a link? If it does you might have an incompatible version of SpeedDownload installed.
