If this doesn't work, I'll ask your thread be moved to a forum where more Windows users are browsing:

  • Can I connect my MacBook Pro to an existing network using Airport Express?

I live on a sailboat that is about 225 feet from the marina's network antenna. I receive a strong signal on my boat but can only occasionally connect from my cabin and even then, the connection is very slow (I am pretty certain that my MacBook Pro just does not have enough signal power to get back to the network antennae). If I move 50 feet closer the connection works well. I tried to configure a range extender but nobody has any technical information on the marina's network. Does anybody know of a way to for my AirPort Express (or any other product with greater range) to connect to their network and then by cable (or wireless) to my MacBook?

DeltaDawg, Welcome to the discussion area!
There was a similar question but using an AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS). Unfortunately the answer is the same.
No, that is not possible. The Ethernet port on the AirPort Express (AX) is ONLY active when the AX uses WDS to wirelessly join a network. Unfortunately very few (less than 7) 3rd party devices support Apple's WDS. Also this requires configuration changes at the base station creating the network and the AX.

  • How to connect my macbook pro to a windows network

Hey... I have used my MacBook outside of the office all the time, but know we are going to use it for business purposes. We have a "basic" windows network to share files, folders, printers and scanners.  How do I start connecting my MacBook to this network.

    Hi alex,
It probably depends on which OS you're on; the following is for 10.6.8.
If you're trying wirelessly, I think you can open System Preferences > Network > click on the lock and enter your password if it's locked > select AirPort > in the dropdown menu next to Network Name select Join other network and enter the info asked for > click Apply if it's not grayed out.
If ethernet, click on Ethernet > Advanced > click on the Ethernet tab > select Automatically in the Configure dropdown menu > click on OK > click on Apply.

  • I am struggling to connect my macbook pro to a wireless network. Works fine with USB and my Toshiba can print wirelessly but not the MAC. Any ideas?

    Hi
I cant print wirelessly on my Mac pro but can via usb. the Toshiba does work wirelessly..any ideas?

If you can use the wireless network properly (surf the web, check email, etc.) then there is probably nothing wrong with your network settings.
When you print from your Mac Pro, does the printer show up in the Printer list at all (in the Print dialog box)?
If not, have you already tried to Add Printer from the bottom of the Printer list?
If you click Add Printer and it can't see the printer, the next thing to do is probably go to the Toshiba printer web site and see if there is a Mac printer driver to download and install so that it shows up in the Printer list.

  • Connecting new MacBook Pro to existing home network

How do I get my other laptops(Windows), NAS, and and shared wireless printers to appear in the Shared part of Finder? And stay connected after a restart/shutdown?
I use the Finder/Go/Connect to Server command and key in server IP (smb://192.168.1.1) but doesn't connect.
I can bring up another computer using that command (smb://192.168.1.10) and the network drive (NAS) with smb://192.168.100), but not the Linksys server or the DLink wireless print server.
And after restarting or shuttingdown my MacBook, those connections are not there,
I can't find any posts or documentation to help. Can someone please point me in the right direction?
    Regards

I went into login items tab under Accounts/Systems Preferences; made those changes and the connections come up fine following each shutdown.
I've tried the HTTP instead of SMB, but...http://192.168.1.1 to get to the server to no avail...just keeps spinning and times out.
Not really necessary since I can connect directly to NAS folders and other laptop; then system preference changes brings them up each start up.
So, I'm left with the problem of my MacBook recognizing my printers attached to printer server (which in turn talks to my router).
DLink Wireless Print Server DPR-1260; http://192.168.1.10
connected to two printers with USB cables
    Brother HL-5140 & Epson RX680
When I go to "Click + to add a printer"; what should I enter under Type, Device, and URL?
    regards

  • I have connected my MacBook pro with the mini hdmi connecter. The background screen is the only thing that shows up on the tv.

HiI need help connecting the MacBook pro to the HDTV. I have the attachment and have it connected but I want to play videos or video from the Internet and all I can see is the background screen of the Mac. Hope the solution is simple :)

If you can see the background on your second monitor, the solution is, ...
.. your Mac and the external display are working correctly!
You have created an Extended Desktop. The up-down-left-right arrangement is done in the Arrange pane in
System Preferences > Displays > Arrange
The second screen is added to one edge of the first screen. The mouse moves freely off the edge of one screen and onto the other screen.  You can drag and drop files or windows from one screen to the other.

  • How to connect my macbook pro to LDC television

    I have a macbook pro 13-inch, mid 2012 model.
I have an LCD television of 32 inch from panasonic (TH-L32C8K).
My TV does not have hdmi port but have vga and AV ports.
To connect to Macbook I bought an thunderbolt to hdmi cable. Then I bought an hdmi to vga cable. So my final arrangement is like this
    Macbook<-->thunderbolt-to-hdmi-cable<-->hdmi-to-vga-cable<-->Television
On the television i changed to AV mode to PC. But nothing is shown on the tv screen. My TV works with other thing. When i connect the macbook pro, it does not show anything. Can you guys suggest whats going wrong? Before buying this macbook, i was like dreaming about it. But now life became so hard using the mac. Everything is pricy and not compatible to outside world devices.

That's a complete mess and I am not suprised that it is not working.
Instead of getting two adapters, you could just get a Mini DisplayPort to VGA adapter and a simple VGA cable, so you can be sure it will work. Maybe you should have looked for more information before purchasing anything.

  • Problems connecting my macbook pro to my samsung led Tv

Hi. I try to present some pictures and videos by connecting my macbook pro to my samsung led Tv but my mac doesn't recognize the Tv (or it could be that my TV doesn't recognize the mac). What should I do?

I have problems too with some projectors and the DVI--VGA adapter that came with my MBP. The projector is recognized by the computer, but does not show any signal.
With the help of Stéphane Madrau, who has written the excellent tool SwitchResX, I found out that the projector reports that it takes digital input when I connect the MacBook Pro, but analog when I connect it to my 12" PBG4. From the DDC information (collected with SwitchResX):
    MacBook Pro, DVI--VGA:
    Input signal & sync:
    Digital
    PBG4, miniDVI--VGA:
    Input signal & sync:
    Analog input with: 0.700V / 0.300V
    Separate Sync
    Composite Sync
Given that the VGA cable is analog only, I would think that the MBP tries (or rather, does) output digital signals only, which don't make it into the VGA cable. If I find a solution I will post it here.
The clue was that the computer did not report any vertical scan frequencies for the external display, while it did so for a projector that worked.

  • Problems connecting my  MacBook Pro to a video projector

I have a MacBook Pro. I have used it many times to connect to a video projector and give presentations in my classroom. Lately, it is hit or miss concerning whether the laptop will give a signal to the computer. I can't figure out what I am doing wrong. I have followed the instructions in the MacBook guide.(Start with projector and laptop off, connect, turn on, etc. )
I am using the DVI to VGA adapter. I have also tried to use the function keys and manually tried to get it to detect displays. Can't think of what to do next. I gave up and hooked up a Windows computer and it worked.
Could it be the adapter? Does anyone have any ideas I can try? Thanks!

  • Can I connect my MacBook Pro (with Bluetooth 2.1) to a Bose Sounddock 10

I own a 17 inch MacBook Pro (bought summer 2009) and am interested in buying a new Bose SoundDock 10 with the Bluetooth adapter. Before investing $750 in this sound system, I would like to learn if I can simply pair and connect the MacBook Pro and SoundDock 10 via Bluetooth and play my music from the MacBook Pro thru the SoundDock (such as iTunes and Pandora). I know I can do this from my Driod to the SoundDock. Thank you!

I just purchased the 10 and love it. I don't have the Bluetooth adapter, it was not available when I made my purchase. I was also wondering if my MBP would connect. I can see no reason why the two would not pair.

Dave I'm glad to say that it works perfectly but I'm embarrassed to say that my 12 year old nephew hooked it up in about 10 minutes.
If you have the Kanex Mini DisplayPort cable it will work, what confused me was changing the display settings in System Preferences,
and dragging the mac screen from the mac onto the tv. Sorry I cant be more helpful but you have the right cable now you need a 12 year old nephew.
    Good luck Derek

  • Using a remote desktop connection with the Macbook pro.

I use the remote desktop connection on the Macbook pro and am unable to exchange info between the mac and the remote connetion windows. For example, if I am writing an email from the remote connection and want to attach a document, photo etc. that I created on the Mac, it just doesn't work. It seems like the Mac and the desktop connection are completely seperated eventhough they are both on the screen in front of me. the systems I use for work are not Apple compatible and will not work on anything other than windows explorer and in my case the remote desk top connection. Any ideas!

I still don't know what happened to my test Aperture Library after the update to 3.4...Not only were my previews lost, but so were the original images!  Needless to say, I haven't bothered to update the main library on the Mac Pro because I don't want to deal with this level of uncertainty (even with backups in place).

  • I've connected my macbook pro (os 10.6.8) to an external display, but it will not go into clam shell mode!  When I close the lid the laptop goes to sleep, and I am unable to wake it using the external keyboard or mouse.

A rundown of what I've tried:
Adjusting energy settings to try to prevent sleep
Pluging the USB keyboard and wacom tablet directly into the laptop (as opposed to a usb hub)
My laptop's power cable is connected
My display (a Vizio TV) is recognized in the System Preferences panel
I'd been using this TV for about a year with my older Macbook Pro (OS 10.5.8), though using a different wireless keyboard and mouse
***Update:  The issue seems to lie with the keyboard and wacom tablet.  I am trying to use a wireless Case Logic keyboard (with dongal) and wired wacom tablet to wake the Macbook Pro in clamshell mode.  To experiment, I tried using my Logitech wireless keyboard & mouse set (also dongal) that I had been using before and it wakes the computer without any problems!  However, I really need to be able to use my wacom tablet.  If I switch to the tablet after waking the computer using the Logitech keyboard & mouse it works, but once the computer sleeps it won't work anymore.  I could keep switching back and forth I suppose, but it's sort of a pain.  There has to be an easier way!  Any ideas why the wired wacom tablet is unable to wake the computer in clamshell mode?
    Thanks!

So your keyboard or mouse won't wake the Mac when you close the lid correct? Try resetting the SMC and pram
    Shut down the computer.
Disconnect the MagSafe power adapter from the computer, if it's connected.
    Remove the battery.
Press and hold the power button for 5 seconds.
    Release the power button.
Reconnect the battery and MagSafe power adapter.
Press the power button to turn on the computer.
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.

  • I am battling to connect my MacBook Pro to my new Samsung D7000 Smart tv. Both the tv and the macbook are on the same wireless network. Any ideas on how to solve this problem?

How do I connect my macbook pro to my samsung smart tv its the D7000 and has all share?

My suggestion is to get the magic trackpad, magic keyboard and magic wand and connect a DVI to HDMI cable and use the MBP in clamshell (closed) mode. This will allow you to run 1080P into the TV and essentially use the Samsung as a HUGE monitor. At that point you can use the TV itself to display whatever you want off the laptop or simply switch inputs and stream stuff out of smarthub as usual. I tried to connect mine via allshare (by the way samsung has the free allshare download of software for the PC but not the mac.) and while i DID have some succes (under windws) i had to run a non secure connection and in the end the cool factor wasn't worth the hassle, to me anyway. It was sort of a "cool i did it" now why bother..... Hope this helps.
