I cant consolidate my library ........ :(

hi there , i know there are loads of other postings like this but i couldnt find a similliar one , when i try to consolidate my libabrary it says 'an unknown error has occured -69'
what can i do ?!

The -69 error usually means that there is a bad file in the library that has something wrong with it, when you are consolidating try and watch thhe status window of the consolidation and see if it stops on a certain song.....if it does try and remove that song and try thhe consolidate again

This is the message I get when I try to consolidate my music. Copying music failed. The file name was invalid or to long. The way I tryed to consolidate my library was going threw the advanced option. I have more then enough space on my hard drive. It only consolidated a couple of artist before I got the error message.
Any one know what I can do?

What I noticed was, the consolidate function starts copying oldest files first.
I had to monitor the new consolidated folder using Win Explorer and display the "Date Created" column.
For me, it stopped after a Carole King album every time.
Then I had to go back and look at the folder itunes was trying to copy files from, again sorted in Win Explorer by "Date Created" and see what was added to my PC after Carole King. That is how I found the opera album in the compilations folder.

Error Message when I try to consolidate my Library

When I try to consolidate my Library, the error message reads " copying music failed: the file name was invalid or too long! I have since upgraded itunes and still get the same message. What should I do?

Good luck! iTunes is really bad about not saying which file is causing the problem. It just stops the entire process instead of skipping over the problem file.
Another thing to try is to put your music folder somewhere else with a shorter name.
The default folder location for the music files is here
C:\Documents and Settings\{username}\My Documents\My Music\iTunes\iTunes Music
That is a pretty long path.
You could make a new folder on the root C: drive just name it C:Songs. Go into iTunes > Edit > Preferences, then click the Advanced tab at the top of the window and click General. Click the Change button and browse to the new C:Songs folder
....and hope the shorter name lets the consolidate work.

Aperture Library both 3.1.2 but still cant be open library as its a newer version of aperture? Help :(

Clicked GET INFO on my Aperture Library and it shows version 3.1.2
Clicked [APERTURE] then [ABOUT APERTURE] and it also says version 3.1.2
Go to open the aperture library and then this pops up
The library in “/Users/main/Desktop/Aperture Library.aplibrary” cannot be loaded because it is from a newer version of Aperture.

Weird. So you've verified that your Aperture app is at 3.1.2 by right-clicking on it and seeing that it says 3.1.2 next to Version. And you've verified your library the same way.
I know yes def verified as per your comment both library and app version
So, go to the app (the 3.1.2 version, of course) in the Applications folder, hold option down and double-click on it. You should get a box asking you to choose a library. The version of the library should be in the column next to it. Choose the library that is 3.1.2.
I have two libraries, OLD (the one i want to use) and NEW (which is what i had to create to at least allow me to open the application. Both Libraries show 3.1.2 as its versions and the app is def 3.1.2

So i tried this as well, still no good. Why? Well Aperture always opens the previous library it used and because each its always opening that, i cant even begin to trouble shoot it - unless you know or can think of something else.

I'm totally frustrated here. Just purchased a 3T Western Digital NAS drive to keep my family's media libraries. There are three of us each with our own iPhone, laptop, & iTunes library (although we do share an Apple ID). I set up a share on the NAS for each of us, then mapped it on each computer as a network drive. Then I changed the iTunes Media folder location in the advanced preferences to point a new folder on the mapped drive. Next step was to consolidate each library to force iTunes to copy/move the library to the new location. This worked perfectly for the first two libraries and each one is able to sync it's respective iPhone with no problems. My problem occurred when trying to consolidate the third library, received an iTunes error that stated "There is not enough room on <share> to copy all of the requested files." This is not true, I show that there is still a little more than 2T of free space still available on the NAS drive, and I am able to copy files there outside of iTunes without difficulty. I read elsewhere that I could consolidate the library in smaller chunks by selecting items in iTunes, right-clicking, and choosing consolidate files. This worked for about 1/3 of the music, and then I ran into the 'not enough room' error again. Here is the pertinent information for the troublesome library:
Operating System - Windows 7 Ultimate, SP1
iTunes version - 10.4.1.10
NAS Drive - 2.00 TB free of 2.71 TB
iTunes Library - 345 GB (10,129 files)
If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this, your help would be greatly appreciated.

To get an idea of what is being stored where download & run the script iTunesInfo which should output something like this:
I'm interested in the block of 4 results starting ITL location. If your profile name shows up somewhere replace it with <Name>. It is also worth checking under Edit > Preferences > Advanced to see where iTunes thinks your media is supposed to go. My script estimates the setting based on the location of the first media file it can actually find.

Why won't iTunes let me consolidate my library to external hard drive more than once?

I am trying to transfer my iTunes library to an external hard drive. The first time I tried it was successful, but I didn't like how it was setup so I erased it to start over. Then I established a new folder on the external hard drive labeled iTunes Music. When I tried to consolidate my library a second time it didn't do anything. Should I just manually transfer over the audio files? My long term goal is to get my iTunes library transferred to the hard drive, burn my CD library using XLD to external hard drive, and clear the audio files from my internal iMac hard drive. I figured I would just use an alias to connect the location of the files. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Do this.
Quit iTunes.
Copy the entire /MusiciTunes/ folder to the external.
Hold Option, launch iTunes.
Select Choose library...

Unless you deliberately downgraded iTunes at the same time this may be a sign of a corrupt library. See Empty/corrupt library after upgrade/crash.

I tried to set up a new library for my old ipod nano so i could update songs on it however when i tried to import songs from a cd it crashed and i had to end task therefor not getting to sync the new songs with ipod nano. now i cant find old library

Since all of your music came from your computer in the first place, then it should still be there and should be included in your backup copy of your computer.

This is not true. You have misunderstood.
You can sync as many ipods/iphones/ipads as you like to one one library.

Cant play anything, cant connect with library, cant re-install

Hi, hopefully someone can help me, sorry this so long, seems that everything has broken down...
1. Last night I was trying to correct a few things in my library e.g. where itunes had wrongly split 1 album into 2 etc.. I assumed this would be straightforward but wish I hadn't even attempted it now...
2. When I tried this for one or two albums and synched to see if it had worked, I was receiving error message like: "... won't play because it is not authorised on this ipod" and "... could not be located". The songs had exclamation marks next to them and wouldnt play
3. I googled some solutions and tried various things such as editing the "Get Info" details and re-pointing to the library, but in the end this just resulted in none of the files being located
4. I kept looking for solutions online, and tried various similar things such as collecting all music into one file, replacing it into the iTunes folder and re-pointing the library to it (in "Preferences") and re-synching but that still didnt work
5. Then eventually nothing would play - not in iTunes and not on my ipod either - i.e. the songs were there but when I clicked play nothing would happen
6. Eventually the synch removed all of my music off my ipod except what I had purchased from the iTunes store (so that is on my ipod but wont play. The podcasts wont play either)
7. So next I tried to uninstall iTunes, re-install and recreate the library by pasting all the files back in. But I can't re-install it. The first time I re-installed it told me it couldnt find "Apple Mobile Device", and to uninstall and reinstall again. I did this but now everytme I try to install I get an error saying I can't because an installation is already in progress. I've googled for a solution and tried running "clean disk", restoring the system to before I'd unistalled etc.. but nothing works..
I'm not sure if this is related but a few months ago my hard drive was replaced. I recovered all my music and had managed to get things working but perhaps it is related if the original music files weren't in the places they were supposed to be or that iTunes was expecting??
This also may be unrelated but for a few months now, whenever I try to sync I get a message saying "scan and fix" or "continue without scanning". If I choose scan and fix it crashes my PC, so I just used to choose continue without scanning and it would sync correctly.
Can anyone help?? The first thing I need to do is reinstall itunes I suppose but at the moment I cant even do that...

The problem now is that I cant import my old library. I imported these files from CD a few years ago. More recently I found one other old CD and have purchased things from the iTunes store. The CD i added recently is there, as are my iTunes store purchases, but I can't import the rest.
Is there anything I can do?? They wont play in Windows Media Player either. Could there be a permissions issue??iTunes file formats changing in updates and now it doesnt recognise the old ones??

How do I consolidate the library in iTunes 11?

In the previous versions of Itunes you could consolidate your files. According to the apple support i need to click File > Library > Organize Library
But on the new version when I click library, organize library is not an option...I want to be able to consolidate when i want to, not just when new music is added.

It's now under Menu Bar, File - Library - Organize Library (File you reach by Clicking Alt + F)

Ops - moved images in Finder & now cant see in Library

My bad... By mistake, I deleted some images (moved them into trash) & then I used the Finder and moved them back into the Library folder where they came from. Now I cant see them in the Library. I tried right clicking on the Library Folder and Check for Missing Photos or Folders but it didnt show them.
While trying to fix my mess, I reimported the folder in question. It showed up in the Library with the same name as the Folder that I screwed up but it only contained the images I deleted. I thought Id just move them into the original folder but they wont go because the file already exists in the destination.

I cant sync my library to my iphone

I have too much music on my iphone. I have de-selected all the songs I want to remove, and when I connect my iphone to my computer and sync with 'sync only ticked songs & videos' selected, the unwanted songs still remain on my phone. when I select to view music on my iphone, some of it has gone on from the list, but it is all still there on my phone. I have completely wiped my phone, and restored it and started the whole process again, but still I cant get rid of the music. Im sure it must be a setting on my phone somewhere????
I've spent hours trying allsorts of different things - please can anybody help? Any suggestions welcome.

You don't need to delete the old library, but it will take a little effort to transfer the allegiance of the device to your new one.
You should be able to:
Backup the device to the new installation
Transfer your purchases into a newly authorized library
Recover any other media using third party tools as suggested in this post from forum regular Zevoneer
Restore the device from the backup
This process should switch the association of the device to the new library, preserving the data and settings in your apps.
May also be prudent to attempt a backup to iCloud directly from the device before you start... Settings > iCloud > Storage & Backup > iCloud Backup > On. It won't save any media but it would preserve the general account settings and documents in case anything goes wrong while you are trying to extract your other data.
When you get it all fixed, make a backup!
