Hi! I have recently created an Apple ID. I want to download a free app in the iTunes Store, but it forces me to enter a credit card information, and I don't have a credit card right now. I've seen iPhones were there's an option were it says "none" instead of giving a credit card information, but I can't see that option on my computer. Is that option available from a computer? Or am I obliged to have a credit card?

Read the steps carefully as the order in which you follow them is critical. Note that you can do this only when creating a new Apple ID. You cannot use an existing ID.
You will of course not be able to get anything other than the free apps without entering in some sort of payment method (credit card, prepaid iTunes card, gift certificate, etc.)

You may well get additional temporary authorization holds on your credit card. Anytime you use the iTunes or App Store and you are asked to verify your account, which happens periodically (especially if you have not used it in awhile), an authorization hold may appear.
Again, they are not actual charges - think of it as Apple's billing system simply asking the credict card issuer "if I charged a dollar to this account, would the charge be honored?". When the bank's system replies affirmative, the hold is removed and disappears from your account. But no charge is actually submitted to the bank, nor processed by the bank. -

Change your payment information to none on your iphone, goto settings > store , tap on your apple ID , tap view account , tap payment type , change to none.
This is all provided that you don't owe itunes any monies, if so then attach a credit card or itunes gift card and pay your arrears.
Free app or paid app, you will not be able to use your apple id until you settle one of the above. -

So I signed out of my existing account (tried this in itunes store and app store, on my mac and ipod touch) then signed in with new ID, can't get past the credit card request. I don't get the none option, on the touch i don,t get the pop up scrolling window with all the options.
I want this seperate account so my son has the freedom to download free games etc on his ipod touch without access to my creditcard. -

then credit card details will need to be entered before the account can be used to download any item from the store.
If you are being prompted to review the account then you could see if this post by mountaingoatgirl lets you do so without needing to enter credit card details : https://discussions.apple.com/message/24303054
If not then you will either need to enter credit card details (you should be able to remove them after entering them) or create a new account (and use the instructions on that HT2534 page when creating it). If you do create a new account and you want to use the same email address then you will need to replace it on that account first e.g. by tapping on it in Settings > iTunes & App Store on your phone and logging into it, via the Store > View Account menu option on your computer's iTunes or via http://appleid.apple.com

Next to your Payment Type, click "Edit." Select the "None" button and click "Done." Confirm that your card has been removed by returning to the Apple account information screen. Under Payment Type, it should say that there is no credit card on file.

I had this same problem. Even though I updated and even changed CC's in my iTunes account and there was no balance on my account....THERE WAS A BALANCE on my daughter's account that through the family network was tied to mine as the family manager. Even though all the accounts are paid by my card, I can't see or clear balances on other family members.
My daughter had to go into her account and enter (or have me enter) the 3 digit security code from the current (updated) cc to clear her balance and cease this darned error.
Now we can updated, download, and so on. What a pain.
In short if you are getting this error, especially if you CC information recently changed (expiration, number, sec code)... make sure none of your connected family members made any purchases between the time the CC info changed and you updated the iTunes account. If they did...THEY MUST CLEAR THEIR BALANCE to clear the error message.

Create a NEW account/ID for her using these instructions. Make sure you follow the instructions. Many do not and if you do not you will not get the None option. You must use an email address that you have not used with Apple before. Make sure you specify a birthdate that results in being at least 13 years old
