I cant download apps because my apple account is asking for credit card information, how do i resolve this problem?

i have an apple id. when i go onto app store and type it in it says that i have not used account in store and to rectify the problem. when i go in to do this it is asking me for credit card details, i dont have a credit card. what do i do? i want to download free apps. my phone is bill

In the US you can purchase 'iTunes' or 'App Store' cards for cash at many retail stores, and apply the code from the purchased (validated) card to add credit (money) to your Apple ID account for online music and App purchases. It is my understanding that such credits can be used for US purchases of any online content, including music, apps, and movie rentals. Are such cards sold in your area?

If you have an existing ID, & you don't want to use a credit card, you'll have to redeem an iTunes gift card. If you don't want to do that, you'll have to create a new ID by following the directions here, EXACTLY:

Yes, I followed the instructions to the letter. But it asks for credit information anyway and 'none' is supposed to be an option when setting up an account 'with no credit card'.
I have two new iphones, the first one set up as expected, where 'none' was an option. Now that I'm attempting to set up the second with different information, there is no 'none', only Mastercard,Visa, AmerX, Discover and Paypal.
My wife is ready to throw hers out the window, help me stop her...

How much is the in-app purchase you wish to make? Is it possible that with sales taxes, charged on most states if you're in the US, would push the price over $10? If so, and all you have is $10 in your balance, then the iTunes Store will require a credit card for the remainer of the cost.

The iTunes Store will never ask you to provide personal information or sensitive account information (such as passwords or credit card numbers) via email.
