I cant find acrobat reader that will run on my MBP?!?
what am I doing wrong? I go to the acrobat download webage, download either of the available file formats, and they dont work??
help.
I just visited the adobe site and downloaded their latest acrobat reader, 7.08 and it works fine on my MBP, although the actual installation process is a bit untidy. Mac does leave a bit to the imagination with some of their install methods
However, after installing it, I find it works perfectly with no problems at all.
I just noticed that it is now called the adobe reader - they dropped the acrobat name - probably to avoid confusion with the one that also writes.
Go to:
http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html
it works for me.
Another potential solution is ghostscript
http://www.ghostscript.com/
One advantage of ghostscript is that it reads many "locked" pdf files and can also edit and write pdf, unlike the adobe reader.
I have not yet tried this one on my MBP, but it works on my Linux and Winder boxes.

Acrobat plug-in.
The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser.
Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your Web Browser and try again.See if you can find a NPPDF32.DLL files in the Firefox program folder (C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\)
You can see the installed plugins on the about:plugins page.
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/about%3Aplugins
You can set the pref plugin.expose_full_path to true on the about:config page to see the full path of plugins on the about:plugins page.
It is best not to leave that pref set to true as it exposes that full path to web servers, so reset that pref to false after you are done with the about:plugins page.
You can open about:plugins and about:config via the location bar, like you open a website (about: is a special protocol to access some build-in pages).
If you get a warning when opening the about:config page then you can confirm that you want to continue.

I am unable to open a PDF file in Firefox 3.6.8. Adobe Acrobat Reader 9.3.3 is installed. I get the error message "The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser."
You can get that error if there is still an old Adobe Reader plugin in the plugins folder in the Firefox program folder.
C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\plugins\nppdf32.dll

I got the following pop-up when I tried to open an online PDF file:
The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser.
Please exit Adobe Acrobat/Reader and exit your Web Browser and try again.
I tried many time, and it really doesn't work.
The plug-in I have is Adobe Acrobat 8.3.0.280After I upgraded to Firefox 5, I had the same problem and I did a work around temporarily. I went the tools menu, then Add-ons, then clicked the "Plugins" on the left side (4th one down). I "disabled" both Adobe Acrobat 8.3.0.280 and Adobe Acrobat 10.1.0.536 using the disable buttons on the right side. PDF files now open again. However they are outside the actual browser.
My guess is that Adobe didn't catch up yet with a new update to work with Firefox or vice versa.
Hope that helps!

My first suggestion is to upgrade to the most recent version of Firefox by going to this link:

My second suggestion is to read this article on how to many your preferences on how Firefox deals with PDFs and all other file types:

The acrobat reader that is running cannot be used to view PDF files in a browser
The subject says it all. I'm unable to open a link to a pdf file.
I'm using Mozilla on a Win 2000 machine.
Version 8.1.2 worked fine. I see some people have reverted back to this version. Is that the only fix?"The Adobe Acrobat/Reader is running can not be used to view PDF files in a web browser. Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required. Please exit and try again."
Here's the simple solution:
1. Open Adobe 9
2. Select Help on main Toolbar
3. Select "Repair Adobe Reader Installation"
Yes, but make sure that all previous versions of Acrobat and Reader have been removed from your computer.
I had on Vista Acrobat Reader 5 and 9 because sometimes was problem with printouts in duplex on Acrobat Reader version 7,8 and 9.
You can have more then one version of adobe reader on your computer.
I had to uninstall this Acrobat Reader 5 and select Repair Adobe Reader Installation on Adobe Reader 9.3.3 version.
Success.

Please help.
Your macbook pro has a 32 bit processor and not a 64 bit processor?
If so, i believe photoshop cs5 is the newest photoshop version that will work on your Macbook Pro.
System requirements | Photoshop
You can get a 30 day trial trial version of photoshop cs5 from here:
http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/cs5-product-downloads.html
Also, photoshop cs through cs4 should work as well, but cs3, cs4 and cs5 will run better since cs and cs2 require Rosetta and can be kinda slow at times. -
Is there a version of acrobat reader that will allow you to fill in forms?
I have a group of students that are using a fillable pdf to complete a project and they do not have a version of Acrobat to do the form. Is there a free version of Acrobat that they can use to do this?
Steve Kerbow wrote:
I came across the same problem as smithohio. I have a file downloaded on my phone and my PC and couldn't fill it out. What's the use of the program?
To read and print pdf's and if the creator of the pdf allows it, to fill in forms. If you want more, Acrobat would be the program you are looking for. -
The adobe acrobat reader that is running can not be used to view pdf files in a web browser
I have found a few postings related to this error, mostly centered around repairing the installation and checking the HKEY_Classes_Root/software/adobe/exe location. I have repaired and verified this and the problem remains.
My environment is a terminal server environment, we have 2 terminal servers each with Acrobat 9 installed. The kicker is that this issue seems to be plauging one of our TS servers but not the other.
The workaround seems to be having the users that have this issue opening Acrobat>Edit>Preferences>Internet> uncheck 'Display PDF in Browser".
So I suppose i have two questions:
1) how can I identify and correct this issue on the problem terminal server?
2) is there a way that I can globally change this preference for all users that log into this terminal server?
thank you in advance for any assistance!Hi Ankit_Jain,
I actually found another thread here on the forum, which suggested uninstalling, re-starting, re-installing & registering. It worked!
Thank you for getting back to me.

I just got Windows 7 and have been having problems since loading it. Most of my drivers only go to Vista and don't recognize 7.
I have trying to download some manuals from their website
and keep getting this message; Adobe Acrobat/reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in Web Browser.Could I suggest a workaround for PDFs until a solution is posted? Open them directly in the Adobe application rather than in a browser tab.
In your Adobe application(s), go to:
Edit > Preferences > Internet
Then uncheck "Display PDF in browser"
(There are very few sites where having PDF integrated is really beneficial.)
