I cant find iChat anymore on my iPod touch what happened and how can I get it back?

I just got a new iPod touch and I can't find iChat. I am not sure if it is the generation (4th) but it should come automatically. I also know somebody who has a 3rd generation iPod. What happened and how can I get it?

iOS 5 comes with the Messaging app. You can text with that. It is not called iChat, it is called Messages

If you bought the same series on DVD and it was stolen, would the store just give you another copy?

If your iTunes library is on an external hard drive, but iTunes is not recognizing the library, first make sure the right library is selected.
You can use these steps to make sure iTunes is opening the library on your external drive:
If iTunes is running, quit iTunes.
If you're using Windows, hold down the Shift key and from the Start menu, choose All Programs > iTunes > iTunes.
If you're using a Mac, open iTunes and immediately hold down the Option key.
You should see one of these screens:
Pick Choose Library and locate the library on your external hard drive.

Last night the mail application from Apple lost all my old emails, which were stored in mailboxes, neatly sorted by category. What happened and how do I find them?
Details: I shut down mail to run errands outside my office. My late model MacBook Pro was on "sleep". When I returned, I opened the application, and (RATS!) all the mailboxes were missing. They just evaporated.
Operating system: 10.7.2 - all software updates installed and current as of 24 hours ago (12-30-11, 6 AM EST).
ln the mail program, the trash folder is OK and the sent folder is OK.
Yesterday, I did no maintenance on my mail folders.
HELP!

That was most likely the result of some kind of corruption, as I've already said, not a bug in Mail. Have you repaired the hard drive with Disk Utility recently? That wouldn't be a bad idea.
2 - at random times, mail (or the server) says that my password is incorrect and I must reenter (fix: usually I can quit mail, restart, and the connection is restored without reentering my password)
This is a known issue, where a failure to respond promptly on the server's end mimics what happens when the password is rejected. There's no need to quit Mail, just cancel when asked to enter the password, take the account back online and try again.
3 - mail seems to resort the mail in my mailboxes at random time. Several times a day, I must reset the sort to (a) by date; (b) by desending
Never seen that before. That points more to some kind of possible corruption in your Mail data or preference files.

Follow the instructions in this article, open the iPod in the My Computer window, and drag the episodes to the Recycle Bin. Music, videos, and podcasts placed onto the iPod outside of an iPod-specific file manager such as iTunes are not usable on the iPod.

Updated to ios 5.0.1 but the icloud doesnt recognise that I bought any music on my ipod touch before I updated, how can I get this music back?

So, pretty much, I hadnt updated my ipod for quite sometime...and it wouldnt let me take music from my ipod onto my computer (now running the latest itunes) When I finally decided to update everything, the information about icloud said that it could download previously purchased music etc. So, I figured it would all be fine, as I assumed all my music, as Ive always used the same account, would overall be saved onto that in someway or another, and it could at least make it realise that Ive already downloaded things? so, I updated, my ipod was wiped except for photos, and now I cant get any of my previously purchased music, videos, or apps....however...I really care about the music most of all. I've read help sections millions of times...but I cant find any that acctually help me (none of the apple ones I have found have even mentioned the fact that theres NOTHING in the purchased bar) I tried downloading something else and that works fine on this new 'icloud' thing. Where is my iPod's camera roll backup, and how can I get it back onto iPod

I was having trouble with my iPod Touch 5 and the new update of iTunes, 12.0.1.26. I digress here but this is why I hate updating iTunes, and now kinda hate Apple stuff in general, because every time I've updated iTunes in the past it's given me trouble with my devices and syncing. But I'm not here to hate on Apple, I love my device, I just wish the software and workflow was more intuitive.
But on to my problem. I plugged in my iPod and opened the iTunes update. Bought some songs from the store, decided to rework my playlists, but when I try to sync them to my ipod, it doesn't show up. The playlists show up in my ipod within itunes, but i can't access them from my ipod because they aren't there. The songs I purchased from the store show up perfectly well, I just had to download them from the cloud. But my new lists with the songs uploaded from my computer won't work.
Long story short I finally got tired of this and restored my ipod. Mostly because I couldn't find anyone else on here with the same problem and didn't want to take the time to ask. Looking back, that might've been a better idea.
I have restored the backup and I have all my old apps, and I have my new playlists. All I'm missing is my photo roll, which I don't understand why it wasn't restored along with all my apps.
I am wondering if this is possible because there were many pictures on there that have special meaning to me.

- The iTunes backup that iTunes makes included photos in the camera roll. If yo go to iTunes>Preferences>Devices what is the date of the backup? Is it when the photos were on the iPod? You have to restore from that backup.
- What may have happened is that you backup the iPod after you restored the iPod but before restoring from backup. iTunes only keeps one backup and overwrites the previous backup with the changes.

I'm using my iPod classic as hard drive to transfer the music to my reinstalled computer but the file "iTunes" is missing. Where is it and how can I get it back?

I had a virus on my Windows Vista PC so I had to reinstall the whole system. With this I also got an upgrade to Windows 7. Now I want to use the iPod classic to put the music back on the PC. According to the explanations on Apple support you have to drag the iTunes file on the iPod to the My Music file. Unfortunately there is no iTunes file on the iPod. It does work fine though and I can listen to all the music. I have to say that before I deleted the hard drive fro the PC I forgot to switch the iPod to manual sync. It was psooible though to do that with the new installed iTunes without erasing the music on the iPod. Can anybody help? I really wouldn't like to loose the countings and playlists.

Have you tried resetting it. You do this by holding down the home( white middle button) and the Menu button at the same time. Keep holding until it comes back on. I had the same problem and it worked after holding for about 10 seconds. Also if you need technical help call a local store and talk to the phone rep. They will often give you tips without charging you the $35 that the Apple Phone Service charges you just to help you. Good Luck! Jim
