I cant find imovie and iphoto

I uploaded my air to Mavericks two weeks ago.
I just realized that I am missing imovie and iphoto!!
Did they be moved to other place or this is a huge bug????
Rita

Hi sberman,
I just realized the reason that I lose imovie and iphoto.
When I got my mac, imovie and iphoto was free as a promotion.
Two weeks ago, my flash drive had some problem and I had to reinstall my mac. I totally forgot that imovie and iphoto is not always a complimentary application, so I didnt back them up.
Now I lose both of them... ((((((
Do you think I can get them back for free at apple store???

  • Lost imovie and iphoto after system reinstall, and couldn't find ilife DVD either

after i reinstalled my OS system, imovie and iphoto stopped functioning -- i can still see the icons in Application, but when i tried to open them, error messages popped up. For example, for imovie, i got "The QuickTime components necessary to view, edit, import, and export several kinds of movies are not installed. These components are included with the iMovie installer; please re-install".
i know that i should reinstall them, but the problem is: i bought my Macbook Pro in 2010, and it either came with ilife components installed, or it come with an ilife DVD (but i couldn't find it). In such a case, is there anyway to get them back without purchasing new ones?
    Thanks a lot!

    Hi Brie-
I haven't replaced the music in my back catalog of iMovies. That would be quite a project.
I did try a burned DVD and that played fine.
As a test, I once again purchased a song on iTunes but I can't import it into either iMovie or iTunes.
I'm running Quicktime 7.4.1. and not 7.5 because when I did the automatic 7.5 download all my iMoves lot sync. That wasn't the 'hang' problem, it was more like watching on YouTube where the frame rate and the audio don't match up.
I backed up my system, erased and reinstalled. Once I came to the 7.5 update, I had the problem again. Then, I did an archive and install - OSX, ilife, and all the upgrades except QuickTime 7.5. Along the way, I tested iMovie to see how it worked.
Instead of going all the way to 7.5, I did 7.4.1 which was the one before. My iMovies are now all in sync but, I'm not authorized to import or play. I did all the steps to reauthorize but I'm at my present impasse.
I'm sure that if I upgrade to Quicktime 7.5, I'll be back in the YouTube out of sync mode. I also didn't reinstall any 'flip4mac' or 'Slick' software (all of which worked perfectly until the 7.5 upgrade.)

  • "Open-Box" MacBook. iMovie and iPhoto $14.99 each. Don't want to pay.

So I just bought my MacBook and it was discounted as an "Open Box" which meant that someone had bought the computer and shortly (less than a week) decided that they did not want it. So because the person would have begun setting up the computer and using the computer's serial number to download Apps they would then cost money for peoplel like me who purchase them. This person did not purchase GarageBand because I got it for free, but iMovie and iPhoto both are $14.99. The salesman told me that I could use Apple's Up-To-Date program to get these Apps, however, when I tried to I am only able to get iWork and not iLife. How can I get iMovie and iPhoto without having to pay for them? I also have just updated the computer just incase that was not allowing me to get iMovie and iPhoto but that was not the problem.
    Thanks

  • Why can't update to the new iMovie and iPhoto?

I recently had to get a new hard drive in my MacBook Pro. After I installed Mavericks, I got a notification from the App Store saying there are two updates for iMovie and iPhoto. When I try to update them, I receive a message saying update unavailable with this apple ID. It goes on to say this update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or this item was refunded or cancelled. I have tried every possible Apple ID this could of been purchased with and receive the same message each time. I have no idea what to do to update these now. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Please take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried until the problem is resolved.
    Step 1
Follow the directions in this support article.
    Step 2
Associate your Apple ID with your user account. Then sign in to the App Store with the same ID.
    Step 3
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/adoption.plist
Right-click or control-click the line and select
    Services ▹ Reveal
from the contextual menu.* A folder may open with a file named "adoption.plist" selected. If it does, move the file to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator password. Log out, log back in, and test.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combinationcommand-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar, paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.

  • Photo booth, imovie and iphoto problem

photo booth, imovie and iphoto are not working in my macbook pro. when i try to open one of these apps a question mark appears and i can not open any of them.

Did you move any of those applications? A question mark in the Dock means that the original application cannot be found. You've either moved or deleted them. Try to do a Spotlight search for each to see if you can find them.

  • Lost imovie and iphoto

I have installed Tiger on my g4 imac and forgot to save imovie and iphoto can anyone please explain how I restore old system (ie what order the discs go in ) and how do i start again with tiger

Assuming your iMac G4 shipped with Panther 10.3.x and later the
system was upgraded by installing Tiger over Panther content, so
the Panther-level's iLife components were carried over in Tiger...
And your later Tiger retail installer, having none of that within it,
does not give you iPhoto or iMovie, etc with a new full install.
The Panther restore and install original disc set may be able to
provide raw materials to use Pacifist: http://www.charlessoft.com/
and hope it can make use of those Panther-vintage bits on disc
to assemble and install a working iPhoto and iMovie from them.
I'd tried Pacifist to install a Tiger-vintage iPhoto in a computer
which had been wiped and upgraded past the original Panther
with a retail Tiger 10.4.0 DVD installer and was able, after three
tries, to get a working iPhoto 5.x version. Or I think it works.
    {This was from a non-working iBookG4's restore/install DVD.}
To find a good condition stand alone iLife 06 or 07 may be a
better way to go, since that should be Tiger compatible as
well as being able to run in the older PowerPC G4 machine.
The video or graphics hardware, and need to have a DVD
or super drive, limits some of the later iLife software titles.
Some iMac G4s can't really use the last iLife versions, not
to the degree you'd hope; given they are vintage, not Intel.
I have found a good tool to have, even with iPhoto on the
same computer, in ToyViewer. It runs free and has tools.
And it can do more than most beginners may need, well.
ToyViewer 4.92 free running image software:
    http://homepage.mac.com/t_ogihara/software/OSX/toyv-eng.html
    In any event...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Question about how Mac OS X stores file information for iMovie and iPhoto

I'm relatively new to Macs (am using a 3yr old iMac and a new MBA running 10.6.4 and iLife 11) and I have this general question.
I'm using the iMac for a lot of Movie projects and photos. I've very quickly filled up my 500Gb hard drive and I don't understand why other than this:
I import a movie using iMovie and it's stored in an Events folder. I then make a project and it's stored in an Projects folder, I then share it to iTunes and it's stored in the iTunes Music/Movies folder. And I also see the movie in an iMovie Shared folder. In other words, it appears that a 2Gb movie (as an axample) becomes about 10Gb because it's saved in multiple places. Must I keep all of them?!
With iPhotos, I've imported about 6Gb of photos from my Windows PC. No problem. I copied across all the directories and then imported them into iPhoto. I then thought I could delete all the directories as the iPhoto folder became 24Gb in size! Not sure how but it seems that as well as keeping my original 6Gb of photo directories it's also put them into the iPhoto directory and somehow made it a big folder size?! If I delete the original folders (since they're now in the iPhoto app folder) then I can't actually browse the JPGs files can I except from within iPhoto only?
I've got about 80Gb of music, about 6Gb of photos and about 80Gb of movies. Somehow it's pretty much filled up 500Gb of hard drive (and very little other programs or files other than the normal iMac stuff it comes with) because of the way the Mac (iTunes, iMovie and iPhoto) seems to have the same thing copied everywhere.
All input greatfully receive and apologies if I'm being thick.
    Richard.

    Richard
I'll answer the iPhoto part for you.
If you use iPhoto in its default setting then the images are copied into the Library on import. Yes you can now delete the directories you have copied over.
then I can't actually browse the JPGs files can I except from within iPhoto only?
    Yes and no...
The point of iPhoto is that it's your Photo Manager. It's the "go-to" app when you want to do anything with your Photos. - View them, edit them, email them, print them, use them in other apps, upload them whatever - all of these things are done from iPhoto.
There are two advantages to working this way.
    1. You get to work with your Photos and don't have to think about files. This means the organisation possibilities are much greater than just files in folders. You can use Keywording, Smart Searching, Albums, Events and a plethora of other bases for categorising and therefore find your pics.
    2. iPhoto is integrated throughout the entire OS. That means your Library is available throughout the OS without iPhoto being open by means of Media Browsers. You can search your Library from a MEdia Browser and so on.
So, while, yes, the files are not browsable via the Finder, there's no need to. Everything you need to do can be done with iPhoto.
Want to edit the pics in something other than iPhoto:
You can set Photoshop (or any image editor) as an external editor in iPhoto. (Preferences -> General -> Edit Photo: Choose from the Drop Down Menu.) This way, when you double click a pic to edit in iPhoto it will open automatically in Photoshop or your Image Editor, and when you save it it's sent back to iPhoto automatically. This is the only way that edits made in another application will be displayed in iPhoto.
Note that iPhoto sends a copy+ of the file to Photoshop, so when you save be sure to use the Save command, not Save As... If you use Save As then you're creating a new file and iPhoto has no way of knowing about this new file. iPhoto is preserving your original anyway.
There are many, many ways to access your files in iPhoto:
*For Users of 10.5 and later*
You can use any Open / Attach / Browse dialogue. On the left there's a Media heading, your pics can be accessed there. Command-Click for selecting multiple pics.
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
(Note the above illustration is not a Finder Window. It's the dialogue you get when you go File -> Open)
You can access the Library from the New Message Window in Mail:
    Uploaded with plasq's Skitch!
*For users of 10.4 and later* ...
Many internet sites such as Flickr and SmugMug have plug-ins for accessing the iPhoto Library. If the site you want to use doesn’t then some, one or any of these will also work:
To upload to a site that does not have an iPhoto Export Plug-in the recommended way is to Select the Pic in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export and export the pic to the desktop, then upload from there. After the upload you can trash the pic on the desktop. It's only a copy and your original is safe in iPhoto.
This is also true for emailing with Web-based services. However, if you're using Gmail you can use iPhoto2GMail
If you use Apple's Mail, Entourage, AOL or Eudora you can email from within iPhoto.
If you use a Cocoa-based Browser such as Safari, you can drag the pics from the iPhoto Window to the Attach window in the browser.
*If you want to access the files with iPhoto not running*:
For users of 10.6 and later:
You can download a free Services component from MacOSXAutomation which will give you access to the iPhoto Library from your Services Menu. Using the Services Preference Pane you can even create a keyboard shortcut for it.
For Users of 10.4 and later:
Create a Media Browser using Automator (takes about 10 seconds) or use this free utility Karelia iMedia Browser
    Other options include:
    1. *Drag and Drop*: Drag a photo from the iPhoto Window to the desktop, there iPhoto will make a full-sized copy of the pic.
    2. *File -> Export*: Select the files in the iPhoto Window and go File -> Export. The dialogue will give you various options, including altering the format, naming the files and changing the size. Again, producing a copy.
    3. *Show File*: Right- (or Control-) Click on a pic and in the resulting dialogue choose 'Show File'. A Finder window will pop open with the file already selected.
    Regards

  • IMovie and iPhoto full download over and over again

I have this strange bug, iMovie and iPhoto will for no reason auto download over and over and over, in the screenshot below you can see I have to identical download of iMovie; when they were downloading I can see they are the same file size 1.94GB.
I have 2 App Store accounts, so I thought maybe App Store got confused and tried to give me 2 copies, some bug like that, but nope, today iMovie almost completely downloaded again, it was over half done when I saw and stopped it. iPhoto too tried to download again as well. They started download when I was doing the iTunes 11.1.3 update, so after I signed into my Apple ID.
Additional info, iMovie and iPhoto is not listed in the Available Updates page, I have cleared it from my Purchased page and don't see them there.
On the screenshot below, please disregard the Error Occured and the Apps folder being stuck with the download bar, those cleared after a reboot, my problem is with repeated mystery download of iMovie and iPhoto. Is there a way to stop this?

Try removing the iMovie and iPhoto apps from your Applications folder.  (You might save them elsewhere, but if it were me, I would simply move them to trash and not empty the trash yet.)
Then hopefully you can find them again under the App Store "Purchased" tab with a "Download" prompt next to them, and/or on the "Updates" tab.

  • Imovie and iPhoto as paid app

    Hello,
I have uninstalled imovie and iphoto to save some space on my Macbook Air recently. Moreover i am having ilife installed in my mac mini, so i dont use it on my MBA. Today while browsing app store, i saw both the apps are listed as paid?. just curious why it shows as paid app.. because i unstalled it? If i want to install it on MBA in future, should i purchaise it?. OS is Mavericks.

    Hello dabance,
Thank you for the question.  It sounds like you are curious on whether you would be charged again to download your iLife applications.
If you have associated the applications with your Apple ID, you can download them from the Purchases pane of the Mac App Store.  You can find more information in the following resources:

  • Imovie and iphoto wont update

imovie and iphoto wont update because it says i need to sign into the account i used to purchase them, but they were already on my mac when i bought it, what should i do?

This is usually caused by some error with the AppStore receipt used to track your purchases. There are numerous reports of similar problems online. The best solution I've seen (that fixed my issue) is to delete the _MASReceipt directory from your copy of iTunes. This breaks the account lock and allows the app to update.
First make a backup copy of your app (just in case), then Ctrl-click on the icon in the Finder and choose 'Show Package Contents.
From there navigate to the Contents directory, in which you'll see a _MASReceipts directory. Delete this directory (you may need to authenticate to do this).
Once you've done that, relaunch the App Store and check for updates. With luck the update will work now.
