I cant get Mail to accept my icloud password

I follow instructions here http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864 to set up my account. But Mail wont take my password. The password and username works fine on icloud.com. Using all the right SSL ports etc mantioned in the link above. It was previously set up as a pop account but this is how it turned out when I upgraded to 10.8 (from 10.6.8)

It never supported POP - you may have thought you'd set it up for that but you can't have.
Firstly, make sure your password is compliant with the requirements - change it if necessary at http://appleid.apple.com - make sure it has at leat 8 characters, one of which must be upper-case and one a numeral.
Then go to System Preferences>iCloud and click the 'Sign out' button. Then sign back in again with the new password: your iCloud data will disappear from your Mac when you sign out but will reappear when you sign back in. Your old email messages live on the server and won't be affected.
It would be a good idea to amend your signature to show your present system, to prevent confusion in any further questions you may ask. You can do this in your Profile>My products.

Yosemite Mail do not accept my iCloud password. Why it does not work?
    Web version is working fine.

    Hi there.
Since my situation is very similar, rather than start a new thread, I wonder if I could jump on this one for some clarification & to see if I'm okay to proceed with the Tiger instructions you posted.
    I'm running 10.4.11 on a 17" Titanium PowerBook G4. I have a .mac e-mail address & I'm using Apple Mail.
I migrated to iCloud several weeks ago & everything's been fine but I haven't been able to get any e-mail through all weekend.
I logged in to iCloud a short while ago & everything seems fine.
So could I ask whether the procedure you linked to works for .mac addresses as well as .me addresses?
Also, can I assume that the messages that are still sitting in my inbox will still be there after I remove the existing account & create the new one, (seeing as they're synchronised with the inbox online), whilst the complex hierarchy of folders I've created locally in the mail client will remain untouched?
    Thanks!

    Hi 2douglas,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities. Based on what you stated, it sounds like the password is being rejected. I would recommend that you read this article, it may be able to help the issue.

  • Cant get mail unless at home

    Hi,
I have noticed that I can't get mail from my gmail account in the mail app on my ipod touch unless I am in range with my router at home. ie. I cant get mail from my schools wireless network but can use safari app.
The same thing happens with the netnewswire app, I cant get feeds unless i am using my home internet
    any solutions?

Check with your school's IT helpdesk. Mail (and other apps, like IM apps) use different ports that HTTP, and some providers block those ports (i.e. my corporate internet does not allow mail/chat traffic, does allow most web traffic, but blocks access to webmail sites).
    Hope this helps...

  • How can I get Maverick mail to remember my iCloud password?

I need to re-enter my password everytime I log in.  When I go to accounts and enter the password it works, but the password disappears.  The passwords for all other accounts are retained.  What am I missing?

Have a look at this link - it might help:

  • Iphone 4 "cannot get mail" as user name or password incorrect.

I have an iphone 4 and it has stopped updating mail.  Three days ago I incorrectly typed in my mobile me password and had to reset it.  I have updated my mac account details for my mobile me account on my phone but I keep getting "cannot get mail" as user name or password for.mac account is incorrect.  Im not sure what to do and this is very frustrating as Im sure it is something very simple!  Any help gratefully appreciated.

Did you try to delete the MobileMe account on the phone and set it up again after that?
You can also try to replace the account info on the phone during the next sync, if you select this option in the info pane, Advanced Section, with your phone connected to iTunes.

I have not once had an issue with this. I have not changed my password or anything. I have the iPhone 4. All of a sudden, the message error pops up that says " Cannot get Mail"  The User name or Password for Suddenlink is incorrect. Please help!!!!!!

All customers should now have the ability to send and receive email through Suddenlink’s email service, and the vast majority should have full service, including access to all mail, folders, contacts, and settings. We will continue working until the remainder of customers have full email service restored. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience and thank you for your patience as we continue to work to restore full email service for all customers.

If you migrated your MobileMe account to iCloud, on your phone you should be able go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars>Add Account>iCloud and enter the Apple ID associated with your iCloud account.  On your desktop computer, you can configure your email client to get your @me.com email by following this guide: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4864.

  • HT4759 I CANT GET MY PICTURES BACK FROM ICLOUD ON MY NEW IPHONE5

I CANT GET MY PICTURES BACKED UP FROM ICLOUD ON TO MY NEW PHONE

No need to shout - we are not hard of hearing.
Many users have lost photos while preforming a restore from backup or upgrading the iOS.   Recall, only photos in the camera roll are backed up to iCloud.  There is a way to turn backups for camera roll on/off, perhaps these users had camera roll turned off.
    See:
Settings>icloud>Storage & Backups>Manage Storage,  tap the device's name and on the next screen, be sure Camera Roll is turned on.
    IMPORTANT...
Photos should be regularly synced to a computer (like you store photos from a digital camera) using either USB via iTunes (on a mac use iPhoto or Aperture to move them to an album) or using photo stream.  If you have been doing that, then you can sync those photos back to your device.
If you haven't been saving photos except relying on iCloud to store them in a backup, then that is risky, as many users have discovered.  I'm afraid I have no advice in this case - there is no "cure".
