For starters, have you turned on icloud backups in Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup?
It would help if you could tell us what you have done, since there are many variables involved.

TS3988 I cannot get my iPhone to back up to iCloud.

I have been trying for 8 hours today. It gives me a 9 hour estimation window, and the bar has made no progress. It will randomly time out. I have been on the phone with 3 different apple people! Each time they have me do the same things that either 1. I have already done on my own or 2. that their own people have already had me do.
I have never backed up to iCloud before so this will be the first time....if it ever works. Any suggestions?

You didn't say what you've tried already, but you may have a particula app or something in your camera roll that is preventing the backup from succeeding. To locate which one, go to Settings>iCloud>Storage & Backup>Manage Storage, tap the name of your device under Backups, under Backup Options tap Show All Apps, then turn them all to Off (including camera roll) and try backing up again. If it succeeds, then the camera roll and/or one of your apps is preventing the backup and you'll have to located by process of elimination. Turn the camera roll On and try backing up again. If it succeeds, turn some of your apps to On and try backing up again. If it succeeds again, turn some more apps to On then try again; repeat this process until it fails. Eventually you'll be able to locate the problem app and exclude it from your backup.
It may also be caused by network connectivity to the iCloud server. Solutions to that include power-cycling your wireless router (unplugging it for 15 seconds, then plugging it back in), resetting network settings on your phone (in Settings>General>Reset), updating the firmware on your router, changing the router's DNS settings to use Google's public DNS (see https://developers.google.com/speed/public-dns/docs/using), etc.

Sorry, I don't understand the first bit, but if your back up continually fails, you might try turning off back up on your mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup) and then deleting the backup file from iCloud by swiping the backup file on the mobile device (settings > iCloud > storage & backup > manage…) and then turning back up on again.

Particularly:
Battery does not charge
Verify that the outlet being used is working.
Try another USB power adapter if available.
If no other USB power adapter is available, try connecting to a high-power USB 2.0 port (not a keyboard). The computer must be turned on and not in sleep or standby mode.
Try another USB cable if available.
iPhone or iPod touch displays the low-battery image and is unresponsive
If you see the image below, charge the iPhone or iPod touch with USB power adapter for at least 15 minutes.
You should see this image when iPhone or iPod touch begins to charge:
If the screen still displays the low-battery icon, try turning the iPhone or iPod touch off and then on again.
If the issue persists, follow these troubleshooting steps.

If the device has been used as designed, contacts would be synced to a supported application on the computer or a cloud service and pictures taken with the device would be regularly copied off to a computer.
Failure to use the device as designed is not smart.

If that doesn't help it may pay to tear down and reinstall iTunes in the following manner...
Go to Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (later)
Remove all of these items in the following order:
iTunes
Apple Software Update
Apple Mobile Device Support (if this won't uninstall move on to the next item)
Bonjour
Apple Application Support
Reboot, download iTunes, then reinstall, either using an account with administrative rights, or right-clicking the downloaded installer and selecting Run as Administrator.
The uninstall and reinstall process will preserve your iTunes library and settings, but ideally you would back up the library and your other important personal documents and data on a regular basis. See this user tip for a suggested technique.

I cant get my iphone 5 to be compatible with my mac book pro. When I plug the iphone 5 in it tells me that i need a newer version of itunes 10.7 and I currently have 10.6. I checked for updates in my itunes and it says i dont have any. So i have gone to the itunes website to try and redownload itunes which i believe it 11.7. When I try and download that version it tells me the software on my computer doesn't suppor that version. I try to update my software and it says there is not software updates available right now. In order to get those to work you will have to upgrade to Snow Leopard 10.6.8.
Start by checking if you can run Snow Leopard:

Unfortunately there is no way for you to get it back. Just report it as lost/stolen to the police just in the rare case they catch someone with it. If you had "find my iphone" setup through mobile me, there would of been a chance. Sorry.

If you have multiple calendars on your phone, you might check to be sure you are adding the events on your phone to the shared calendar you are trying to sync with, and not some other calendar such as On My iPhone, From My Mac, a Google, Yahoo or exchange calendar, etc.
