I cant get my machine to do internet
a imac g3 was given to me a month or so ago, and now im going to use it because my other machine is burnt out. i get to the internet setup wizard and put in all my info, but i might be missing somthing. my internet works out of my router to my other computers but not the mac. i have broadband with a netgear wireless, linksys bridge, and smc router. any ideas?
Macintosh models from the Quadra series onwards have had onboard ethernet connectivity. The iMac G3 is no different. If you have a router and or ethernet hub/switch then a straight-thru ethernet cable connected to the onboard ethernet port should guarantee an internet connection. Provided, of course, that the ethernet port has not failed and that appletalk and tcp/ip control panels are set to use the ethernet port.
That takes care of a wired connection.
Wireless connectivity is also possible although with your model of mac a little harder to achieve. Apple used to sell the Airport Wireless Card 802.11b (11mbs) that were easily installed into the iMac G3 series and could be used provided the correct version of OS9 was installed. It is difficult to get hold of these cards now as Apple no longer sell them. Apple currently sell the Airport Extreme cards 802.11b&g. I could be wront but I know of no other wireless option that works under OS9. There may be places available on the net that you can still find the earlier Airport card – eBay for one – although expect to pay a premium for one.

I just installed Mountain lion and i can't get time machine to work. every time i connect it time machine starts but then ejects the drive. I also tried to back up direct to the hard drive with the software that came with the drive and the same thing happens. Does anyone have a clue as to what may be wrong?
When that happens, you should get some sort of message. If you don't remember it exactly, go to the Time Machine Preferences window -- there should be a red "Failed" message and icon there. Click the icon to see the message. Either report the wording or post a screenshot.
If not, a clue may be lurking in your logs. Use the widget in #A1 of Time Machine - Troubleshooting to display the backup messages from your logs. Locate the backup in question, then copy and post all the messages here. -
I cant get my wireless or any internet to work with AOL
I have a Motorola Modem and a Linksys router. I get my internet through Roadrunner but i access it through AOL, my Macbook says the Airport is connected to the internet but Safari wont allow me to open a webpage, it says the server stopped working. Additionally when i try to log on to AOL it Warns me that I need to log into my ISP first before AOL.
Please Help.Once your RR modem has been setup properly, either computer should be able to connect directly through it to the internet. OK?

Now. plug mac via ethernet into router LAN port 1
Plug PC via ethernet into router port 2...OK?
Reboot mac and PC. (go ahead).
What happens now? anyone, or no one?
No one?...power down modem. power down router. wait. Power up router, then power up modem. Go into router's admin panel, and confirm that it's getting DHCP from Internet modem. Refresh, Renew.
Now then, what does all this have to do with AOL?
Why do you need AOL with RR high speed?
Chek AOL mail at aol.com (check mail, look for the mail link)
Leave the AOL software alone for now. -
Cant get Time Machine to show in the WiFi menu
I have had the Time Machine for a while but have just used it as a backup hard drive but plugging it into the ethernet port. I have never got it to act as a router or even to show in the WiFi menu. I have followed the standard steps but it just does not show in the WiFi menu. Any help much appreciated!
Factory reset the TC and start over.
It should then appear under the wifi as default wireless name.
Click on that and it will open the airport utility so you can do the setup.
The Factory Reset Gen1-4.
Unplug your TC. Hold in reset. and power the TC back on.. without releasing reset for about 10sec. When the status light flashes rapidly; release it.
Be Gentle! Feel the switch click on. It has a positive feel.. add no more pressure after that.
TC will reboot after a couple of minutes with default factory settings and will wipe out previous configurations.
No files are deleted on the hard disk.. No reset of the TC deletes files.. to do that you use erase from the airport utility. -
Cant get my KN8 Neo 4 -F to get an internet connection through cable modem.
I have a full signal since I checked with my other computer. I just built this system and I cant get a connection to the internet. Seems like the LAN isnt working.
I dont think it's a mobo problem.
There is something that went wrong setting up the conn.
Try disabling firewall... both windows and Nvidia
Open a command window ant type: ipconfig
Check what u get.
Is cable connected from modem to pc?
Are u using router?

I just upgraded my 3GS to IOS5, and now at work when i am connected to our WiFi I can no longer get out to the internet.
A little back story on how it worked prior to ios5:
I would connect via wireless, and then load Safari and type in a webpage I wanted to go to. A pop up box would come up, to authenticate me on our Web filter server (Running Smartfilter), I woudl enter my regular Active Directory username and Password and boom, i could then surf to my hearts content.
After the upgrade, I connect to the wireless, load Safari, type in the webpage i want to go to, and the progress bar moves abotu 3mm and then stops, I never get the smart filter prompt.
I have tried a full reset on the phone, forget network, reset all network settings, I even tried putting in the IP address of the smart filter box as a proxy and still it doesnt work. I have gone to smartfilters website to see if anyone else has posted there, or if there was a clue as to why it doesnt work, but nothing so far.
anyone else having this problem? any ideas?
If it wasnt broken, why would apple mess with it! a LOT of companies run smartfilter as well as other web filters. I thought apple was trying to seduce corporate customers, and so far a lot of poeple are dissapointed that they cant get to the internet.

i was at a hotel using wireless, but suddenly my computer shut down, saying something about a blue screen, when i turned it back on, it wouldnt fully load the games i play on facebook, so i tried a lot of things, then i downloaded mozzilla, nothing happens when i click on it so i tried to delete it but my computer says its running and i have to close it first, but i cant cos i cant get it to open!!!!!!!

which infers the problem exists and seems to confirm the only way is to restart the machine.
Not being computer literate I cannot tell whether or not you can get around the 'lock/unlock' problem! What I need is an easy 'fix' but there does not appear to be one!!

Can connect to wireless, cant get internet

I've recently been having an issue where I can connect to any wireless network, but I cant get an IP, and sometimes I get an internal IP, or even if I get one I cant get any internet connection. This is happening everywhere but my home. School, friends, etc. I've tried everything I can to get it working, I just dont know why I can connect to the networks fine, but cant get internet.

What have you got set as the primary and secondary DNS servers (Network Preferences/TCP/IP) ?
Try using 4.2.2.2 and 4.2.2.1 in there and see what happens. -
After updating my iphone 5s to IOS 8.0.2, I cant get internet on my 3g anymore. Can only get it when hooked to wifi. Tried restore, tried restart, fixed settings. Help?!?!?!?!?

i got my mac repaired in france and now i cant get english on internet or system prefrance is all in french.
Go to the Apple menu > Preferences Systeme...
From the pop up, select Langue et Text in the top row
When the pop up changes, select the first tab: Langues
You should see one or more forms of Francais in the list.
At the bottom of the window, click on Modifier la Liste...
Deselect all forms of Francais, and click on whichever form of English you prefer.
Click on OK (obviously the same in all languages!)
Dismiss the window by clicking on the red dot in the top left corner.
Now logout and login again: Apple menu > Fermer la session your name...

Set TC and wireless names to short, no spaces, no special characters.. ie pure alphanumeric.
Lock the wireless to fixed channels.. only 2.4ghz matters.. as iphone cannot connect to 5ghz.
Try 6, 11 first then 1. I think bluetooth may be set to use lower channels.
That seems to have fixed it for most people. -

Try pulling the power from your router for a few seconds, and then plug it in again. Then try the iPad again.

It may well be a driver issue but considering the loading: Xorg trying to load different drivers is somewhat normal. @cafe you can see that these are autoconfigured by X above the loading in the log:

Yes, that is the Tetheringn or HotSpot option. Some models have this. You will have to set up your phone to do this, and your carrier will likely charge you an extra fee for the tethering service.

I'm afraid you did an error when erasing your hard-drive, this has automatically erased the "local recovery". In order to pass-by this, you must use a former Mac OS X installation DVD (such as Snow Leopard 10.6.3) and then when updated to 10.6.8 you may access the Mac App Store to recover the Yosemite Installer and proceed to a fresh "update" OR creating a Bootable USB Installation drive with DiskMaker in order to alway get a installation copy.
I also suggest you to create a USB Basic Operating System (you must select a local USB device to install Yosemite or whatever OS you want) with only the base operating system to launch your computer in case of Main Operating System issues.
Given the amounts of issues reported by users with 10.10.2, I command you to download 10.10.2 version to get a stable OS working.
