I cant get sound from my external speakers.

Ive checked the system preferences and cant find them in the sound output list. Also tried restarting several times and put the speaker cable to the jack speaker input without any success. Help appreciated!
Got it working. For some reason the output had muted itself. Just had to un-mute and voila...

I'd say it +should be+ something they are not surprised to hear about, but I've read posts on the forums where Apple tech claimed to "never have seen a problem like this before" for issues with MBP batteries - and this was after the 1.2 update release where Apple formally acknowledged battery problems.
So, don't be surprised if the support tech claims to be. But they will certainly have no trouble fixing it. If you're close to an Apple Store, make a Genius Bar appointment and they'll fix you up. Or call AppleCare and they'll arrange for you to ship it in.

  • Cant get sound from my apple tv to play through my external speakers.

    Hey folks.
I have an apple TV which i've connect to my TV via HDMI cable, sound through the TV speakers. However i have an iHome external speaker set which has two types of connection inputs:
    Headphone Jack 3.5mm
    Component Video Output (R,B,G)
I have connected the apple TV audio output (R,W) to the Headphone input... no sound but still coming from TV speakers.
Is there any alternatives which i could use?

Ah thank you for your suggestions but i figured i needed a video output as well as a audio output onto the speakers, all sorted!
that seems like a strange solution.
the speakers don't have a video input, so what exactly did you connect?
from the link you posted, the speakers have a video output, and so does the appletv, so connecting to video outputs together should do nothing at all.

  • Dell OptiPlex 3020: I only get sound from the internal speakers

I have a brand new Dell OptiPlex 3020 running Windows 8.1. I am able to hear through the internal speakers, but I cannot get external speakers or headphones to work - I've tried both the jacks on the front and back.
The microphone on my headset works correctly, but I still hear only through the internal speakers.
    Advice?

    Good day!
Thank you for writing to the Dell Community Forum.
Boot into the System Bios and make sure that Onboard Devices- Integrated Audio is On. Then exit the System Bios saving the change. Once back into Windows, open the Device Manager and make sure that ADI1983 HDA appears under Sound devices. Then re-test the rear green audio jack #4 using headphones. Also, reply to this post with the service tag of the system sent via private message so that I can look into the details of the system and assist you better.

  • HDMI TV to laptop- cant get sound from TV

I have an HP Pavilion g6 laptop. Had windows 7 but have updated it with windows 8. I have been trying to hook my laptop up to the TV with an HDMI cord, the picture shows up but the sound does not come through. I have gone into the sound settings and it says that its on the TV and not the laptop speakers but still no sound. Any suggestions?

    Hello lilybabe44,
    Welcome to the HP Forums!
I understand the sound is not working via HDMI on Windows 8.
Have you tested this on mutiple displays to see if the issue is with the HDMI audio on the notebook or the TV? If not, that would be the best place to start. Also, can you confirm that this worked before updating to Windows 8?
You will also want to make sure your graphics card (GPU) drivers are up to date (as in this case the GPU is handling the audio instead of the audio card). You can find the driverson our Drivers and Downloads page.
It would help to know which product you are using. For information on finding your product and model numbers click here: How Do I Find My Model Number or Product Number?

Only sound from the external speakers. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
If you getting sound from the external speakers....are we talking the ones on the laptop?
Means you still have the onboard sound turned on at a guess.

  • Can't get sound from Insignia BT headphones w/ BT-equipped dv3t

Both are brand-new, I charged the headphones and downloaded the updated drivers from www.broadcom.com (actually Vista seemed to do it automatically) and the device is paired but I can't get any sound out of it (it's turned on:-)).
Under the Playback tab in the Sound control panel there are three items:
    Speakers: Bluetooth Hands-free Audio
Speakers and Headphones: IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
Independent Headphones: IDT High Definition Audio CODEC
All say they are working, but when I test the sound of each one I only get sound from the notebook speakers using the second option. The only weird thing I can think of is that I had the USB adapter plugged in when I downloaded the drivers, so maybe it downloaded drivers designed to work through USB? (I can't get sound with the adapter plugged in, though, either).
Any suggestions welcome, I really want to get this to work and not have to send the headphones back to seller (which is what Insignia tech support told me to do).
P.S. I know I have BT turned on because I'm also connected to a wireless home network, they go together.

    Hello again,
oops, I must have missed your last message... sorry for that!
I have to say, that I don t have my digital sound system that long, that I can answer this question for sure. However...
You re right, that it should be possible, although I wasn t able to find a way to do that... yet... Somewhere (don t know if it was this forum or another place) I ve read, that the SPDIF support for Windows Vista isn t that nice at this time... perhaps a new driver will solve this
Furthermore... I don t use the Media Center that much. So I don t even know if there is any option to set the output device (within the application Media Center). That would be important to realize "the best of both worlds". Explanation: If you want headphones support, you (always) have to leave the Speakers device as default. Other applications (such as Winamp,...) allow us to set the output device (in Winamp for example you can set it under the preferences Output -> Directsound device) to the SPDIF device, although we have selected "Speakers" as default in the control panel... nice, isn t it's For sure... if it would work...
That way you don t get a(n) AC3/DTS signal via SPDIF... so, if you use Windows Vista (I can't answer your question related to other operating systems, because of my newly purchased system -> I haven t used it on XP) the only way that I know ( til now) is to select the SPDIF device as default...

  • Can't Get Sound from Harmon Kardon Soundsticks External Speakers

My Soundsticks have worked fine on my eMac and iBook bow I can' get sound from them. The System Pref has only "Internal Speakers" as an output option. I've zapped the PRAM and fixed permissions with no luck.
What am I missing? They have worked before and all connections from speakers to the iBook headphone jack are fine. Earbuds work.
Any and all help is appreciated.

Do the speakers still work with the eMac?
Have you tried resetting the PMU?
Are you saying that earbuds work with the iBook, while the speakers do not? How can that be if the only output option is listed as internal speakers?

  • How do I get sound from external device into my iMac?

Hi there, I am trying to get sound from a Pioneer DJ mixer which has standard RCA outputs into my my new 21" iMac. Typically in the past I would get a converter from RCA to 1/4" stereo jack and plug into microphone input, how simple. Now Apple has changed the set up and have no idea as to how to get sound in. The headphone jack in the back of the iMac will only take sound in from earbud microphone, other than that it will only be for sound output. Any help would greatly appreciated.

do i need to transfer the midi region to the audio region to hear the play back.
If you need audio monitoring of your device the "Software monitoring" in the Logic Preferences must be enabled. You can switch on the Audio Track monitoring button (labeled as "I" at the bottom of the channel strip).
ive tried recording the keyboard audio thru and audio track it works just cant quantize it like u said and i think ive already tried it before but ill give it a go again
This is wrong conception. To be able to quantize or do any processing like that, you need to record your performance using a midi track in Logic.
    1. I hope you have created some Multi or Standard Instrument so you can edit (quantize) the midi region etc. When you decide that your midi work is O.K you can record it as audio using the Audio Track you are talking about.
    2. The other way (new one) is to use the "External" plugin inserted on a Software Instrument.
This way combines midi and audio i.e you record/draw the midi on the Software Instrument track and is outgoing from the Software Instrument channel strip. In this method you must use "Real Time" bounce cause you use external midi device.
    3. If decide to use the second method you can bounce the audio but you also can record the audio on an Audio Track if route the Software Instrument to a Bus and assign the Audio Track "Input" to record from that Bus.

  • I only get sound from the computer's speakers even though I put in headphones

I have for a while now had the problem that I only get sound from the computer's speakers even though i plug in the headphones, I have rebooted the computer but still the same problem occurs. So i thought there might be someting wrong in the settings, when i open the soundsettings and plug in my headphones nothing happens, usually I believe there should be a text appearing that says that the sound is now going to headphones, am I right? any how, it still just sends the sound out to the speakers and there is no option to send it else where then "soundflower 2ch and soundflower 16ch".
I do have an external sound card, for music recording, that goes through USB, and when i plug that in i get the option to send the sound to that device and also to recive sound and i can also choose if i want to sent it to the computer's speakers. So could it be someting wrong with the headphone jack?

I cannot get sound from the web, you tube, etc, however, my speakers are on and my itunes play sound? What gives?

    Hi,
    Try the following.
First, download the Flash uninstall utility on the link below and save it to your Desktop.
    Flash Player Uninstaller.
When the download has completed, close all browser windows and run the uninstaller.  After this has completed, restart the notebook.
Next, download and install Firefox and then using Firefox, download and install the latest version of Adobe Flash.
Close all browser windows before running the Flash installer.
Launch Firefox and see if Youtube videos etc play Ok - if they do, close Firefox, open IE and click on the same Adobe Flash link above to get a prompt to install the ActiveX component.  When done, restart IE.

  • I cannot get sound through my laptop speakers ever since I used a digital speaker

I cannot get sound through my laptop speakers ever since I used an external digital speaker.  Cannot seem to switch back to lap top speakers in my SYSTEM PREFERENCES...only showing DIGITAL out put option

    Hi there Lutostan,
It sounds like you have disconnected the digital audio speakers from your MacBook Pro but all you have available in your audio settings. Take a look at this info from the following article named:
Troubleshooting issues with no audio from built-in speakers on Macs
If the Internal Speakers option does not appear in the Output tab and your computer is not a Mac Pro, check that Digital Out is present as in the image below:
Confirm again that all external audio devices and cables have been removed.
Check to see if a red light is lit in the line-out port. If so, your Apple computer may need service.
If you do not see a red light, proceed to step 5.
If the issues persist, contact Apple support for further troubleshooting assistance.

  • After attaching the headset to the audio jack, i get sound from the laptop speaker

after attaching the headset to the audio jack, i get sound from the laptop speaker

This worked for me as well. Great find! I have gigabyte ep45-ud3r motherboard and I was getting all sound through external speakers except itunes was playing the sound out of the digital output instead of the speakers. I could see this when I went to control panel > hardware & sound > manage audio devices. I did the repair as described above and now I have sound in iTunes.
