  • Problem importing .vpe into After Effects CC 2014

I am having Issues importing .vpe files exported from Photoshop CC 2014 (2014.1.0 - most recent update to date) into After Effects CC 2014 (13.0.2.3 - latest update to date) on Mac OSX Mavericks 10.9.4. After a (lengthy) couple of chats to Adobe customer support I was advised to update both programs to fix my original issue outlined in this thread VPE issue and this has half way fixed my issues (The export from Photoshop now works properly).
The problem I have now is that when importing the .vpe file to After Effects I get an error:
"Unable to execute script at line 107. Function newLayer.transform[sel].setValue is undefined".
The process creates a composition and a folder which is meant to contain the .png's. Inside the composition, the one imported .png is present, but no parent or camera layers.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is the bug present on Windows? Does anyone know if this will be fixed in the update forthcoming? It isn't listed as one of the stand out bug fixes.
    Thanks
    Simon

To be honest, its been so long that i'd actually forgotten whether the issue was fixed, just went through the process here to check...
That'll be a no then, thanks Adobe.
We're getting kinda tired of the Beta nature of the CC suite here in my department at work. Our internet speeds are currently not great and so having to download so many updates is a bit of an issue. Is there any other way to download updates remotely? That is to say on a different machine than the install of After Effects? Could I perhaps download update files at home, put them on a USB drive and bring them in?

  • Importing Sequences from After Effects CC 2014 into Premiere

Before the update to cc 2014, I was easily able to import After Effects comps into Premiere using "Import" in Premiere. I would select an AE project to import, and it would ask me which sequences inside that project I wanted to import. Worked perfectly. This was just a couple weeks ago.
NOW, I go to import sequences from an AE project and it only shows ONE sequence out of however many I may have. This has happened twice so far. Quitting & reopening both programs didn't do anything. Has something changed with the update?

Dynamic Link only works between After Effects and Premiere Pro if the applications are of the same version---i.e., both CC 2014 versions.

  • Error importing a PNG into After Effects CS6

I'm trying to import a .png file into After Effects CS6 (version 11.0.4.2) and keep getting this error message:
Followed by this one after I click "OK":
The .png imports fine into After Effects CC so I don't think the file is corrupted or anything like that.  I need to make some motion graphics using Trapcode though and I only have that for CS6 so I'm stuck at the moment.  Why is this happening in CS6?  If there's no solution I guess I'll have to pay for the Magic Bullet upgrade and just do it in CC but it would be great if I could just figure out why this is happening in AFX CS6...
    Here's what I'm running:
MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2014)
    2.8 GHz Intel Core i7
    16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M 2048 MB
    Thank you!

No it was just a .png I downloaded from a Google image search. This is it: http://naturalearth.springercarto.com/ne3_data/8192/masks/water_8k.png

  • Import 50fps in After Effects cs6

Hi all! I have some AVCHD files shooted at 50fps and I want to use it to do somw slow-mo effects. The problem is when I import this footages in AE in the interpret footage settings AE read the files as normal 25fps files...so I cheked in Windows and I think the problem might be there cuz Windows in the info panel of the files say: 25fps. I'm sure the files are 50fps cuz I shooted by myselfe...where can be the problem? ty
UPDATE: The problem seems only with interlaced record modes...in progressive modes windows recognize the 50fps...but why with interlaced no?

Our Panasonic AF101 states that it can record at 50fps (which it can), but the problem is, that it cannot output at 50fps. It encapsulates 50 discreet frames imbedded as a field in a 1080/50i data stream.
    Try this suggestion:
    1) Shoot at 1080/25P
    2) Use Variable Frame Rate of 50FPS
    3) Capture directly to Samurai device
    4) Import file into after effects and interpret as 25FPS seperate fileds - Upper field first
    5) Create new composition from footage - then double the frame rate of the composition (leave footage as interpreted above)
    6) Render this comp out to a TIFF sequence
    7) Import TIFF sequence into new composition with a Frame Rate of 25FPS - this now plays back at half speed, smoothly as the above process give me 50 discreet frames.
and see if you get the 50 discreet frames. dont worry about the first few steps, that is just the devices I use, try taking it from step 4.
    Hope it helps,
    Pierre
I also see Dave's answer, and he is also right. The 50i would play back as 25 interlaced fields. What is the issue with the files that are you trying to slow down? what is not working properly?

  • Bridge not importing files into After Effects

From AE I go to File > Browse in Bridge...
Bridge opens up and I find the file I want.  If I double click the file, an AI for instance, it opens the file within Illustrator.  I could find, double click it, and it opens in Photoshop.
I feel as though I'm missing how to import files into After Effects by using bridge.
    I'm running CC 2014 on a Win 7 machine.

Probably an issue with whatever created the files in the first place. WMV doesn't have Alpha, but can have multiple streams... anyway, AE is crap at dealing with such stuff, so convert it using an external tool like Handbrake or whatever...

  • After effects cc 2014 text presets can't import from bridge cc

I'm trying to use the presets for text animation but somehow I get the message that it doesn't support this file format. How come? and how to fix?

    > Any other ideas?
Note the last part of Rick's answer: You can still apply animation presets through the Effects & Presets panel in After Effects.
There is a bug in the After Effects CC 2014.1 (13.1) installer that causes the wrong startup script to be used. We're working on a fix for this now. In the meantime, you can just apply animation presets directly in After Effects.

  • Bridge CC no compatible with the new After Effects CC 2014 ?

Hi, I'm updating the Adobe suite (CC 2014) .but After Effects CC 2014 no longer works with the old Bridge CC (there is no update of Bridge). Since "browse presets" in After Effects when choosing a preset (dissolves etc) there is an error message:
"After Effects error: can not import file" Entries lum.-marq.calque.ffx "unsupportedfiletype or extension (0 :: 1). With all presets.
I tried on other computers with other adobe updated it makes such licenses except with the old version of adobe after effects (after CC effects) I tried too to change language of Bridge and After effects (beharps this is a langage compatibility problem) but the problem is the same.
So I think the new version after effects CC 2014 is not compatible with the presets adobe bridge CC ??
How can I do? I have to go through the old version of after to apply a preset Bridge? I can not even download it in cloud creativ ... there is only the new version of after effects...

  • After Effects CC (2014) MacPro Performance??

I just installed the new After Effects CC (2014) on my 2013 MP with 2 D700s.  I am not noticing any significant difference from the previous version of AE.  GPUs are still showing as 2GB of VRAM (see below).  I dropped in a 5K (5120x2700) R3D clip into a 1080p comp, scaled to width and tried to move the playhead, let alone play and it is extremely sluggish (media is on a G-Raid).  Even at "low" debayer and 1/4 res I seem to max out at 20fps without ram previewing.  Mercury Transmit is off, both "Viewer Quality" options are set to "Faster".  Even with a 1080p ProResHQ file I can't get realtime playback without ram previewing.
What I can do to fix this?

    Any help is greatly appreciated.

    Tim,
    Thank you for the replies.
Is this to say that to simply play a quicktime video file (no effects or adjustments made) in After Effects the expected behaviour is that it must be RAM previewed?
This is how After Effects currently works. It hasn't changed in many years. You can initiate playback without RAM Preview (press spacebar), but the playback speed will depend on how fast the frames can be cached to memory for playback, and will very likely not be real-time except for the simplest of comps.
This is exactly the change that I am looking for.  In my opinion, "the simplest of comps" would be things like "a comp with a QT file and no effects/adjustments", "an Illustrator file moving in the example of a credit roll".  Hopefully this will all be improved upon in future releases.  I am looking forward to seeing them.
As per the After Effects blog post a few months ago about future improvements all that I (and I am confident that the majority of users will agree) would like to see is for After Effects to be significantly faster (think the improvement to the "search" feature in Premiere).
We also want to make After Effects faster. As I mentioned, we are currently focused on performance-related improvements to After Effects. The blog post you referenced was written while we were in the middle of developing the After Effects CC 2014 (13.0) release, and beginning to think about our next release. A side note here: performance in After Effects includes both rendering performance and interactive performance; that is, how fast After Effects allows you to work.
I will anxiously await these updates.  As a note: I feel that interactive performance is a higher priority than rendering performance.
During the CC2014 release presentation on video there were multiple references to "not waiting for renders", except this is exactly what you have to do when working in After Effects.
Can you be more specific about what context you saw this in? Can you provide a link? "Not waiting for renders" is a fairly generic statement, so context is important. It may have been used in connection with the new text templates feature in After Effects CC 2014, which allows faster workflows between Premiere Pro and After Effects, or with Dynamic Link in general. Otherwise, I need to know how that phrase was used in order to understand your perception of it.
Yes, the context was always in relation to either dynamic linking with PPro, or Direct linking betweens PPro and SpeedGrade.  However, the overall impression I got was that Adobe's goal with the video applications was to improve the interactive performance so that users can focus more on being creative and less on waiting for the software.
Could you please also address the issue of After Effects still recognizing the MacPro GPUs as having 2GB of memory instead of 12GB?
We have a bug open on this and are investigating.
Thank you.  I was really hoping that the 2014 release would fix this, but understand that it is likely quite complicated and there are many other improvements/bug fixes that the team is working on.  Are there any updates on when this expected?  Is this effecting performance or just simply the readout in After Effects' GPU information.
I greatly appreciate you taking the time to address all of these concerns and am looking forward to the continued updates to the entire CC video suite.

  • No Refreshed Interface Design in After Effects CC 2014

Sort of an odd question, but how do you change the interface design in After Effects CC 2014 to be the new "Refreshed Interface Design"? Like with the blue text color, borders, and different look panels (as seen in the first image linked). I updated to Adobe After Effects CC 2014 yesterday, and for some reason, my interface design has not changed at all. Is there somewhere in preferences where I can change this? I would appreciate any help, thanks.
What it is supposed to look like:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/after-effects/using/whats-new/_jcr_content/main-pars/image_1.img.pn g/ae-interface.png
What my After Effects looks like:
    http://puu.sh/dfYbm/aa366e60fd.png

Your second image shows After Effects CC 2014 (13.0). The new UI comes with After Effects CC 2014 (13.1).
I'm curious about how, exactly, you installed the software, since you should have gotten After Effects CC 2014 (13.1.1) if you installed from the Creative Cloud service.

  • After Effects CC 2014 - removal of H.264, MPEG-2, WMV, FLV, F4V, and SWF exporters - WHY !?

While reading the features of AfterEffects CC2014, I noticed the following:
"removal of H.264, MPEG-2, WMV, FLV, F4V, and SWF exporters from After Effects"
    THAT IS IS REDICULOUS!!
    NO FLV !?!?
WHAT DO YOU EXPECT USERS TO IMPORT INTO FLASH ??
IF no FLV export is available under After Effects CC 2014, there is NO WAY to EMBED an flv into flash !! (Linking is NOT always what is wanted!!)
    NO H264 !?!?!
    HAVE YOU GONE CRAZY ?!!?!?
    YOU BREAK WORKFLOWS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
    THAT IS REDICULOUS!!!
Any chance of restoring such features so that it makes updating to it worthwhile ?

To date I've primarily been a Photoshop user and have dealt with years of mystifying UX and workflow changes, features that are useless to me added, and critical ones taken away (I'm looking at you Bridge, you worthless piece of garbage).  Then, to add insult to injury, Adobe forum mods telling me I'm doing it wrong and should be jumping through more hoops to achieve the same results. Now, with AE becoming a bigger part of my work, I am sad to find, that the same culture of disconnected arrogance and myopia prevails on the AE dev team.
"Oh um user, you really want to be going through AME, because um technically speaking there have been many problems with the H.264 and MPEG-2 exporters in After Effects"
Oh really? Tell me more about my job. Tell me about my experiences exporting these formats directly from AE. Tell me how my client views my content, is it on a Mac, or a PC? Maybe it's on his phone, or her iPad. What kind of phone is it though? Tell me at what point in my process it's ideal to render. Tell me about other tasks I'm performing. Tell me about the resolution and the bit-rate my files should play at. Tell me the final application I will be using the footage. Probably broadcast right? Or is it web? Or is it PowerPoint? Wait, what if there is no final output? What if it's just pre-vis for some other application?
Tell me how to win over my clients; what's the correct method of presentation to engage them most impactfully? Tell me about how much time I have to render massive video files. Is it more time efficient due to the nature of my composite to render once because my file is super shallow and will render quickly or is it more efficient to render twice because my file is extremely complex with hundreds of layers?
That the deprecated formats were hidden away in the preferences menu is dumb and annoying. That this same preference would then be removed is despicable and petty and is further confirmation that Adobe has contempt for me as a user.

  • After Effects CC 2014 can't open my project anymore

    Hello,
I was working on a project last night, saved my work, and this morning cannot open my project files. Here are reproduction steps:
    1. Launch AE CC 2014
    2. File > Open Project >
    3. Select AEP
    4. Nothing happens
There is no error message, no dialogue boxes, no warnings. Nothing happens. I have tried resetting my AE CC 2014 preferences, restarting my box, and tried importing the project file into a fresh AE project with no change in results (a folder does show up, but contains no data). Auto-saved AEP's also contain no data.
    Here are my machine specs:
    Mac Pro (Mid 2010)
    Processor 2 x 2.66 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon
    Memory 80 GB 1333 MHz DDR3 ECC
Graphics ATI Radeon HD 5870 1024 MB
    After Effects CC 2014 2014.1.1 Release -  v13.1.1.3
Anyone else run into this issue, or have any thoughts on how to solve this? Thanks for your time.

We need waaaaaaay more information. Here's the stock request for info to provide: FAQ: What information should I provide when asking a question on this forum?

  • Render file size bigger After Effects CC 2014

Hello, this seems like a silly question, but ever since the 'After Effects CC 2014' update my rendered files seem to be enormous in comparison to the files I rendered before the update!
I don't see why the update would have adjusted my render preferences, but it must have done as a 2min clip that rendered at 140mb before is now 10GB!!!
My knowledge of codecs and compression is limited but I had a good preset before the update which now seems to have changed (although I have always been rendering h.264/full quality/no audio so I don't understand how the file size can change so drastically).
Has anyone else experienced anything similar?
If not could you please advise me on how to render these files to a suitable size. Like I said they need to be h.264, 1920 x 1080 with no audio.
    Thanks.

After Effects CC 2014 no longer supports the output of many delivery codecs, such as Mpeg4 and H264, through the Render Queue.
You can output far more formats, and in greater quality, using Adobe Media Encoder.  You can send AE renders directly to AME from After Effects.  You can import AE projects directly into AME.  And you can also render high quality and/or lossless formats from the AE Render Queue and then re-encode them from AME.
