I cant install softwares on Lion

Hi,
I reinstalled Lion on Macbook pro a week ago. Now I cant install softwares that ask password to install on mac.
For example, 'Adobe update manager' cant update Premium Pro suite. When I click 'Update' button, it asks for password. Even after giving password, it goes back to the update window. Then I tried to install the Premium Pro from DVD. It didnt install either. The same problem happened when I was trying to install Divx.
But when I reinstall some softwares like Google music manager and paint brush, they reinstalled without any problem. These two softwares didnt ask for password.
Another thing is, I cant also unlock the system preference. It kept locked. No use afer typing password.
I repaired 'disk permission'. It didnt fix the problem.
Please suggest me  some solutions to fix this problem.  Otherwise I have to reinstall the Lion again.
Thanks in advance!
Jay

Greetings to all...
I am suffering similar issues.  2011MBP 13" i7.
Installed Lion from app store 5 months ago, since then I have been able to download all software updates but not install any of them.  At the cleaning up stage or thereabout I get the same message  "unable to install (whatever software). An unexpected error occurred"   Hugely frustrating although everything works fine without the installation, apart from my printer which is eagerly awaiting the software update!
I have tried everything I can think of or find online, using a guest login, running safe mode, repairing permissions, emptying various files in prefs etc, nothing works!!!   My one hope was to command r and reinstall, my problem is when I attempted this it reset my apple id and so i had to enter a new password, now the app store wont recognise the lion purchase when I try to login to id when attempting to reinstall!!!!!!!!!
Please help if possible, have been a huge mac fan for 20 years, currently have mbp, imac 21, ipad, 2x iphones and 2x ipods,
Still stressed!
Piemaster,
Hello and welcome to Apple Support Communities, there are several steps in where you can fix this issue. Let's try the following:
Quit the Mac App Store.
Delete Mac App Store Cache - go to ~/Library/Caches/ folder ("~" represents your home folder) and look for the "com.apple.appstore" folder. Take this folder and place it in the trash.
Delete Mac App Store Preferences - go to ~/Library/Preferences/ and look for the "com.apple.storeagent.plist." file. Take this file and place it in the trash.
Relaunch the Mac App Store.
See if that helps.
I would suggest to make a separate thread as your issue is slightly different from the OP's post. Place your thread in the Mac App Store Forum. This practice can be considered as "threadjacking" and some community members consider it unpolite.
Good Luck! If you need any further assistance just reply here with your post link so that other members of the community and I can assist you with your issue.

  • Cant Install Software?  help...

i recently got Dreamweaver and when i try to install it, it says "a problem was detected with your application. please reinstall this software to correct the problem"
not sure what to do, anyone know how i can get this installed?

That only helps in saying the CD for Dreamweaver probably needs anywhere from 360 MB to 480 MB of space to install its software on the hard drive (the typical rate of compression of software installers is somewhere between 2:1 and 3:1, though it can also be less sometimes). Mac OS X on the other hand needs a hard drive that is no more than 85% full according to most agreed upon arbitrary figures. Therefore it is more important to know how much free disk space you have on your hard drive, and not how much space is on the CD.

  • Cant install software on new MAC after PC died on me

I just bought a MAC after my PC went into a death spiral.  The Mac can access the internet directly connected to the Linksys E2000 or through the guest wireless access.  I went to set up the Cisco software so I could manage the router and get access to the passwords for guest and myself....I forgot the nonguest password.  I can't get the Mac to recognize the router to set up the software, but it uses it no problem for internet access.  How do I get the software on the Mac?  I've tries the software from the disc that came with the router and also downloaded another version off the website.

you don't need any software to configure your router,
just plug a cable from your mac to router's LAN port
Check the gateway on your mac (Apple menu> System preferences> Network> Built-in Ethernet: Router)
remember that IP address,, (by default is 192.168.1.1)
open safari and type that address,
if you're prompted for a username and password, fill in by "admin" for both of'em
from that page, you can setup your wireless network and of course the security too.

Make sure your Mac qualifies for Mountain Lion >  Apple - Upgrade your Mac to OS X Mountain Lion.
If your Mac can run Mountain Lion, if you have anti virus software installed, you may need to disable that before downloading.

I buy in apple store OS X Lion, but I cant instal, there is message-"The item you've requested is not currently available in the U.S. store"-WHAT SHALL I DO ?.

Similar experience here but finally succeeded! Here's the summary
Decided to (finally) update MacBook from SL 10.6.8 to Lion (it can't run ML or Mavericks) so this week purchased from UK Apple store. Received redemption code from Apple via email after couple of days and successfully redeemed this in Apps Store.
Under Purchases in Apps Store clicked on "download" and nothing happened! Clicking on the app name "OS X Lion" gave the message "The item you've requested is not currently available in the UK Store". Contacted support but got no useful help there.....
Following day went back to Apps Store and tried again clicking Download - still nothing (apparently - see below) so started thinking upgrade unlikely and £14 wasted.
A little later noticed new icon in Dock and investigating it said downloading Lion - checked Activity Monitor and indeed my internet connection was being hammered. At a little over 4Gb got an error message saying download could not complete (needless to say not happy) and download icon disappeared!!
So with nothing to lose reclicked Download in Apps Store and again no obvious activity and this time no new download icon in Dock - decided to check Activity Monitor again (just in case) and again high level of download activity! Maybe, just maybe, I thought and after about 90 minutes the Lion install screen appeared!
Have now backed up the Installer and successfully installed 10.7.4
I can't offer any explanation why it finally worked - Apps Store still shows "Download" not "Installed" as I would expect and the item is "..still not available.."!

  • Cant Install Apple OS X Mountain Lion

I cant install OS X Mountain Lion. My Apple IMac 5,1 have got 2 GB ram and 2 GHz intel Core 2 Duo but i cant install it because he say its not compitable?!

If you check the compatibility list on the Tech Specs page from http://www.apple.com/osx you will see those machines Apple has said can use Mac OS X 10.8 if they have adequate ram and free hard drive space.
There really isn't away around that requirement.

  • Cant install new software updates

    Hi,
It seems I cant install any software updates from apple. When I click the install button, nothing happens.Normally the Admin password screen comes up but its not.
    Anyone have any advice?

Cutting to the chase, I think the best solution to this problem is to make a really good backup with TimeMachine and then do a clean install os Leopard, and then to update Leopard, and then to use TimeMachine to restore your files.
I tried Archive and Install. At first, I attempted to preserve user preferences. But the installation of Leopard hung. Looking at the logs, it hung after the system had installed, and as it was in the process of trying to restore the user settings. I then tried Archive and Install without preserving user preferences. This appeared to work, but several files were corrupted. Most obviously, files that had recently been edited with Microsoft EXCEL 2008. I then deleted the Archived files and restored all my user files from TimeMachine. Problem solved.
I wonder if the combination of Microsoft Office 2008 and Leopard 10.5 is somehow toxic.

  • Cant install mountain lion on a new hard drive 2011 mac pro 17"

    any toughs?
if you answer this you would be a personal hero of mine

Make Your Own Mavericks, Mountain/Lion Installer
After downloading the installer you must first save the Install Mac OS X application. After the installer downloads DO NOT click on the Install button. Go to your Applications folder and make a copy of the installer. Move the copy into your Downloads folder. Now you can click on the Install button. You must do this because the installer deletes itself automatically when it finishes installing.
       2. Get a USB flash drive that is at least 8 GBs. Prep this flash drive as follows:
Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
After DU loads select your flash drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the leftside list. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list.
Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to an hour depending upon the flash drive size.
Use DiskMaker X to put your installer clone onto the USB flash drive.
Make your own Mavericks flash drive installer using the Mavericks tool:
You can also create a Mavericks flash drive installer via the Terminal. Mavericks has its own built-in installer maker you use via the Terminal:
You will need a freshly partitioned and formatted USB flash drive with at least 8GBs. Leave the name of the flash drive at the system default, "Untitled." Do not change this name. Open the Terminal in the Utilities folder. Copy this entire command line after the prompt in the Terminal's window:
         sudo /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app/Contents/Resources/createinstallmedia --volume
         /Volumes/Untitled --applicationpath /Applications/Install\ OS\ X\ Mavericks.app --nointeraction
Press RETURN. Enter your admin password when prompted. It will not be echoed to the screen so be careful to enter it correctly. Press RETURN, again.
Wait for the process to complete which will take quite some time.

If you mean the "no entry" sign, a circle with a slash through it, then you need to reinstall Mountain Lion.
Boot into the Recovery HD by holding down cmd-r at startup tone until gray screen.
    From there, reinstall Mountain Lion.

Verify your computer can run Mountain Lion:
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion - System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
             1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 7,1 or later
             2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 5,1 or later
             3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 2,1 or later
             5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
             7. Xserve (Early 2009) - Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
Open Disk Utility and verify the drive is partitioned using GUID and formatted Mac OS Extended, Journaled. If it is then do this:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list.  In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive.  If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the installer.
If DU reports errors it cannot fix, then you will need Disk Warrior and/or Tech Tool Pro to repair the drive. If you don't have either of them or if neither of them can fix the drive, then you will need to reformat the drive and reinstall OS X.
    Now try installing Mountain Lion.

10.5.8 is Leopard. 10.6.x is Snow Leopard.
    Upgrading to Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
If you need to purchase Snow Leopard you can still purchase a copy from Apple's online store's telesales agents.[1-800-MY-APPLE (1-800-692-7753) or Customer Service and Sales Support at 1-800-676-2775.] Ask for a Sales Representative.
Third-party sources for Snow Leopard are:
    Snow Leopard from Amazon.com
    Snow Leopard from eBay
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store.
If you need to purchase Lion call 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. Ask for a Sales Representative. They will check your Apple ID, and email you a code and instructions.  The cost is $29.99 (as it was before) plus tax.  It's a download.
Be sure your computer meets the minimum requirements:
Apple - OS X Mountain Lion - Read the technical specifications.
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)
MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer)
