On Mac the scroll bars can be hidden and only have them show when you scroll the page so you can see the current scroll position.
The idea is that a touch pad is used that doesn't require the scroll bars to be visible and thus have more screen estate for the browsing area.
You can make the scroll bars always visible:
System Preferences > General > Show Scroll Bar > Choose "Always"
You can try to delete the xulstore.json file in the Firefox profile folder.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:

I really need help desperately. I cant open any desktop folders or icons. I've restored to the earliest point I can but with no difference. Even the Control Panel cant be opened from the Start button. my compuetr freezes everytime I double-click or right-click on "My Computer" or "My Documents" icons.
My restore CD which was supplied with the Toshiba Satellite 1800 doesnt work either. Please help! I'm really desperate!

Waht do you mean with "I have tried with the restore CD but nothing"? Have you tried to completely format your HDD? I had a similar problem but in my case it was due to the OS registry...so I reinstalled the system from the beginning and it was ok.
If you cannot solve this problem with the cd supplied by factory...I think it could be an hardware problem due probably to the HDD. Does your HDD make strange sounds, such as "clic-clac"?

Can't open any website

I can't open any website using Firefox. I tried for 4 hours this morning, just blank, or "loading" (but nothing actually loaded). Finally got google partially open but not completely. Shut down my computer about 50 times, had my internet provider check my DSL connection (working "really fast" they said), 12 hours later, still can't open a damned thing. Upgraded to 3.6.13, still nothing. Finally got Safari open (which i've never used successfully on my emac), and it's super fast. I give up on Firefox.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs. 
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.

As the title states, everytime I try to open a website in firefox all I get is a blank tab, so far I have reset firefox, updated, reset again, restored my computer to an earlier date, lost all my bookmarks, retrieved them thanks to a backup, reset again, and even saw somewhere to delete the places.sqlite files so I did and restarted firefox. Basically nothing has fixed firefox. I really need my firefox to work as it is used in a shop to order parts and stuff and all the usernames for various sites are saved in firefox, without which I have to call around to numerous parts stores to get my usernames and passwords reset so I can access the sites from chrome. I really dont want to as I like firefox. Any help at all?

Firefox 3.6.8 is not opening any website, while internet explorer is browing the internet normaly.

Firefox is not opeing any website at all. The internet connection is running smooth. IE is browsing the internet normaly. Skype and messenger is also running without any issues but fire fox won't browse the internet at all. It always displays the following message when ever i try to open any website.
"'' The connection has timed out
The server at en-us.start3.mozilla.com is taking too long to respond.
* The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few
moments.
* If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer's network
connection.
* If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure

A possible cause is security software (firewall) that blocks or restricts Firefox without informing you about that, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox.

If it is good in the Firefox SafeMode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one.
