I cant send messages to some numbers

Hi there,
I'm sorry if this is in the wrong topic thread,can anyone help please. I recently got an Iphone4s. It will not let me text certain numbers. I can receive messages from them and make calls to them. When I reply to their SMS I get Not delivered alert on my phone. I have tried deleting them as contacts and adding their numbers again. I have restored phone setting but no joy. I sent a message to one number fine earlier and just tried to send them another and got a not delivered alert. It is only some numbers not all that I am having this problem with. It makes no difference if I select the number from contacts or if I input number manually.
I have also checked softwear updates and it is up to date.

You may be transmitting to Apple users using iMessage. But to transmit to non-Apple users, you must rely on your cellular carrier's MMS.
First, you must have Settings > Messages > MMS Messaging set "On". Second, you must have an MMS arrangement with your cellular carrier.

I had problems the first few days with text messaging on my new cell. I checked my new contract service thru AT&T online, and it turned out the guy who set up my phone didn't sign me up for the unlimited texting I told him I HAD to have! I just had to add texting back into my contract.....problem solved. I hope your problem is solved this easily.

both of you should delete each other as a contact in your BBM app.
Reboot both devices.
Then. one of you send a BBM invite to the other and try again.

I did speak a bit too soon it seems - while I can now send messages again from my iPad 2, it still doesn't show me messages that were sent to me via my telephone number. Which is weird, because in the "You can be reached by iMessage at:" setting I do have my telephone number checked.
At this moment I have set my iPad 2 and iPhone 4's "Start new conversations from:" setting to my Apple ID e-mail address. This way at least I can send messages *and* receive messages if people don't use my telephone number to send me messages...
So yes, you should probably wait a while before restoring your iPad 2 - it doesn't fix things completely.

When a message failed, it always goes to the outbox or if you aborted it. Download the configuration for sms, gprs & packet data for your phone from you provider. Sometimes the wizard does not configure it properly.

More information would be important. No idea if you're talking about email messages or iMessage or something else entirely. If you're referring to iMessage, note that you cannot use that to text any non-iOS device... Only other iPads, iPods or iPhones.

Mail cant send messages

I am connected to my Gmail account and my hostgator.com webmail account. Gmail works fine for sending/receiving, but hostgator cant send messages. I am using the default SMTP ports, and have even tried port 26 and still no luck. I was able to send mail using this configuration for months and have had no problems at all until yesterday. I do not know what changed, as Entourage works just fine.

Typically, Road Runner is a cable connection, and as is the case with several cable providers of broadband, the SMTP does not require separate Authentication -- they actually authenticate on the basis of the IP address stored in the modem they provide. In Mail Preferences/Accounts/Account Information click on the arrows beside the name of the Outgoing Server (as I think you have already mentioned finding), choose Edit Server List, and then choose the Advanced Tab. There you should check to use the Custom port, set to Port 25, and choose None as the method of Authentication. Remove any Username and Password entered there, and Save these settings. You should now be able to send with the RR SMTP. If you have a third party SMTP, then you may need different settings, so more info if that is the case.

This is a problem with your carrier. You can contact them and ask why you cannot send text messages. Have you tried restarting your phone or restoring it yet?

iMessage on iPad can only send the messages to a person's Apple ID, not their phone number, that only functions through iPhone to iPhone.
So make sure you're sending too their Apple ID, and it should all work fine.

Can't send messages to two numbers only

on my wifes iphone 4s she cannot send messages to two numbers. one has only stopped recently. both numbers can send messages but she cannot reply to either of them.. tried reset of carriers setting etc, finally tried to do a reset all settings and wipe phone. then i restored as a new phone and tried the numbers and they worked. but this didnt help as a restore from a backup was needed to get all info back onto the phone. so restored from a backup and straight away they stopped working again. before doing the restore i deleted contacts, changed their numbers, tried putting the numbers in manually,deleteing conversations and recents, nothing has worked.

First of all anybody that you want to message with has to have messages already set up on their devices and they have to be registered to use Messages on their own. You cannot add them, they actually have to add themselves to use Messages. Messages only works with other iOS devices as well. You cannot text with any other cell phone or smartphone.
But if the contacts were not registered you would get a different message than a grey send button I think. Go to Settings>messages>Show Subject field. Make sure that Show Subject Field is set to OFF.
