I cant sync my iPod touch / What does setting up as new iPod do?

The other day, I first synced my iPod touch to itunes, didnt take very long. Then I tried syncing a CD and when it was half way through I tried to sync the songs already downloaded onto my ipod, but didnt see how. And today, I tried connecting my ipod, and it came up with 2 options: Restore from the backup, or set up as a new iPod. I wasnt sure whether the 2nd option would mean It would delete everything, so I thought of something else which was choosing the Sync to iTunes (what I did when I first synced my ipod) on the general page of my iPod, thus creating a new backup data. Though it still wanted me to choose from the 2 options so I seleted the new backup. The process took about 10 minutes - Which is a **** of a long time since I only wanted to sync some music onto my ipod I had already synced to this computer. After this, nothing changed. It still hadn't been connected to iTunes. This has really ****** me off. What will setting it up as a new iPod do? Will it delete everything or will it connect to iTunes as it is and enable me to sync music to my iPod?

A reset may help. Tap and hold the Home button and the On/Off buttons for approximately 10-15 seconds, until the Apple logo reappears. When the logo appears, release both buttons.

Aha! Intel P55M chipset. Yes that (and the P55) have been among the grumpy ones for iPod connections on Windows 7 systems.
One of the things that has helped some people with those issues is a BIOS update, and there's a brand spanking new version of the BIOS available on your downloads page (Version A07, posted on 2/11/2010). Are you up to date on that? If not, I'd try updating.

If no joy with the BIOS update, I'd try the following document. (I've had at least one success with it in recent days with one other person with a PM55 issue.)

Any better performance with syncing after undertaking either of those two measures?

  • Plus sign on left of apps in app store for ipod touch, What does it mean ?

On the app store , when I look at a list of apps some paid apps have a plus sign on the left side of the price and some of the paid apps don't have a plus sign on the left of the price, So what does the plus symbol mean ?.   And also what does it mean on free apps when the plus sign is on the left on some of them but not others ?

It means the app is Universal, that is, it will work on both, the iPhone and the iPad.

  • Will iPod touch 4 cases work on the new iPod touch in white?

I bought a white iPod touch and a case for the 4th gen iPod touch at the Apple Store thinking it would fit because it is really a 4th gen right? I never had a 4th gen (had 3rd gen) so I'm not sure if it's new but is the power button moved down or something along the back for 4th gen? The case I bought doesn't seem to manage to get this button and it's annoying. :/

Are you sure there are actual differences between this year's and last year's 4g iPod?  Maybe the case you go is not really right.  The following lists the dimension of the iDevices so that manufacturers can design cases.  It only has one drawing for the 4G iPod. It does include a drawing for the iPhone 4s.

  • I wanted the music on my Ipod Touch 3g to be on my new ipod Touch 4g and Ive been trying to do it, by trying to copy and paste but thats not working so if you have another way can you please tell me. Thanks.

I was wondering how do you get the music on your old ipod to the new ipod?
Because i have the Ipod Touch 3G and im getting the Ipod4G, and i was trying to get the music to go to the libary but it wouldnt transfer.Because i didnt purchase all my music i download some from other places so not all my music transferred. So i need a different way to get my music to my new Ipod. i was wondering if you just plug it in to the computer and if it would ask you to download the songs from the previous ipod im not sure so please help me out. Thanks!

All you have to do is connect your new iPod to the computer that has the library for your old iPod.
When iTunes comes up, click on your new iPod under Devices.
At the top of the Summary Page click Music.
    Click Synch Music.
Do the same thing for Photos, Apps, Movies and so on...
    Now just synch the iPod.

  • I tried to reload my Ipod touch.  I accidently selected "start new ipod" icon on the Ipod and then "back up existing ipod" on Itunes.  Now the Ipod is unresponsive, constantly shutting down and restarting.  Even after multiple "forced" shut downs.  Help!

After updating the os, I tried to shut down, clear and reload my Ipod touch.  Here's where I goofed:  at the prompt for starting the reload process, I selected "start as new Ipod" on the Ipod, but in Itunes, I selected " back up existing Ipod from computer" or something like that.  Now the ipod is constantly shutting down and restarting and no controls can be accessed.  All I can do is the "forced shut down" which I have done multiple times and let sit for a half hour off.

Disregard,  hooked up to itunes and clicked on summary, selected restore, all is well.

  • My Ipod Touch freezes halfway through backing up the Ipod.

So, I recently downloaded the latest software, 5.1.1. And it downloaded successfully and when it began to install on my ipod it froze about halfway through. I left it overnight and when I returned the next day there had been no progress.
I then restored the Ipod touch to factory settings and attempted to back it up.
This also froze, but about an eigth of the way through the progress bar (on the ipod) Itunes progress bar was completed.
Now I cannot access my ipod other than completely setting up a new ipod which I do not wish to do as I had vital information within the current ipod.
