  • TS2972 How do you move your music within itunes from your regular library to the homeshares library so that you can import it to your new computer?

How do you move your music within itunes from your regular library to the homeshares library so that you can import it to your new computer?

You do not have to move it as such. Here are the steps to setup HomeSharing
    1) Ctrl B to turn on the top menu
    2) File > Home Sharing > Create Home Share enter your apple id and password, click create
    3) repeat steps 1 and 2 for the other computer and create home share using the same apple id and password
On your new machine if you have turned on the left hand sidebar the Shared Library should be about halfway down like this.
Select the songs you want and click import at the bottom right. If you want all songs then I would select one song nad Ctrl A to select all
Finally if you have a lot of songs to transfer Switch off the wifi on the old computer. Leave the wifi on the new one. Connect with an ehternet network cable. The copying speed is way faster.
Click import and grab a coffee

How do I move/copy music (a playlist) from iTunes to my USB stick, so that i can play it on my Media Center?

Are you using Finder to try and transfer, or are you using iTunes?
Using Finder should yield no "Decoder" error.

Consult the player's documentation. If needed, right-click the songs in iTunes and show them in the Windows Explorer.

  • I can't uncheck movies I purchased from iTunes

The check mark next to a movie name is suppose to determine if the movie will sync or remain in yoru library but
    not sync, right?
I can uncheck movies I made myself and they won't sync, which is normal.
But when I try to uncheck a movie I purchased from the iTunes store, it ALWAYS syncs.. It wasn't
like this before.. Is this a new bug?
I want to keep purchased movies in my library but NOT sync. Only way is to sync then delete from my iPad,
but next time I sync the movie comes back.

  • Can I move my music from iTunes on my iPad to a nano using iCloud?

Can I sync music in iTunes on an iPad with a 7th generation nano?

Assuming you have a PC/Mac that you sync to the iPad, you can use the same computer to sync with the Nano? There's no direct way to go from the iPad to the Nano.

  • How do I replace my old external hard drive with a new larger external hard drive and move my music so itunes can find it?

How do I move music from an old external hard drive to a new external hard drive and have itunes find it?

If you have a time machine back up of your current drive you can do this
Shut down your computer, install the new drive. While the computer is off plug in the external hard drive that you have your time machine back up on. Hold Option key while the computer turnes on, let go of the option key once you get a grey screen. Shortly after you'll see  a list of bootable drives, select the one that has your time machine back up on it and boot into that drive.
From there go into disk utility, format your new drive too, osx extended journaled ( I think, double check that, its been awhile since ive had to do this), hit format
Exit disk utility and then you can use time machine to copy all your exisit data to the new hhd and then your pretty much done.
There is also a program called Carbon Cloner that will do esentially the same thing however I've never uesed it.

  • Copying movies and music into iTunes

Is there a way to have iTunes copy songs to my music folder when I import them, but not copy movies to my music folder when I import them?
When I import new songs into iTunes, I like to have iTunes copy the song to my iTunes Music folder. When I encode a movie I like to keep it in the Movies folder on my hard drive. Makes sense music -> Music folder, movies -> Movies folder. However, I recently got an iPod Touch and in order to add movies to it I have to go through iTunes. When I add a movie to iTunes, it makes a copy of the movie in my music folder. Now I have two copies of the movie. I have a small(ish) hard drive and don't want to sacrifice the space.
I can copy songs to my Touch without importing the movies into iTunes if I disable music/movie syncing, but then my music and playlists are not synced, making it an incomplete solution.
    Any ideas?

Thanks for the ideas, but neither really solve the problem.
By keeping the files on an external drive I no longer have access to my songs when I don't have my external with me. In any case I still have two copies of a movie for no good reason, even if only one copy is on my computer.
And while I'll probably end up changing the preferences every time will work, it is very inelegant. Hopefully Apple builds a better solution into iTunes.
    Thanks again.

  • HT1751 Move the Music into iTunes from Library

I have a new laptop, that is unfortunately running Windows 8.  I have my iTunes library that I transferred (per iTunes direction) to my external drive.  I downloaded iTunes 11 on the new computer (I also upgraded my old computer's iTunes to 11 before I started this).  I though I could just keep my library on the external hard drive, but I experienced the same problem I am about to explain.  So, I transferred my library per Apple instruction from the external hard drive to the iTunes folder on the new computer.  Now, when I try to select the new Library folder (shift, program start up iTunes...etc.)  I see the file, but I can't select it.  If I keep clicking into the folders I do not see any of the songs in the folders (Music/Artist/Album/Track).  However, if I view any of the files on the external hard drive or on the computer using windows explore, I can see all of the files fine - they are there.  What am I missing here?  I have spent hours on this (it is a large library) and I am beyond frustrated.  Please, can anyone help me out there!

You do not have to move it as such. Here are the steps to setup HomeSharing

  • How Do I Move My Music from ITunes on One PC to a New PC

My daughter took my old laptop which had all of my music and custom catagories. What files do i need to copy from the old ITunes folder to the new new install on my new PC so that I do not have to read all of my CD's in to the system again and preserve the music catagories.

It depends on how you have things organized.
You certainly need to copy all of the folders that have music in them (perhaps this is in your "My Music" folder, or an "iTunes music" folder.
You also need to copy your iTunes library files (.xml, .itl) - these will be in a folder called "iTunes." If your music is in that iTunes folder as well (but it will be in a sub-folder called "iTunes library" - then just copy the whole iTunes folder across.

  • Cant see or share music over iTunes within my network

    Hi everyone,
I'm behind a router/firewall at my residence and I cannot view or share my music. Which ports do I have to open to fix this problem?

    Hi,
If you want to share your music on your LAN, you shouldn't need to modify the settings of you firewall router. Have you also activated your OSX firewall? If so, go into the system preferences under sharing; you will see there a check box to allow iTune sharing but you should not need you OSX firewall if you are behind a router in your residence.
Make sure you also that you have properly set the iTunes sharing option from the Sharing tab of the iTunes preferences. "Share my library on my local network" need to be activated on the iTunes you need to share the library and "Look for shared libraries" on your other computers.
