Hello redatitude,
Not being able to access the iTunes Store sounds frustrating. I have located an article that will help you, take a look at the heading titled "Troubleshoot issues in Windows."

  • ITunes:  "File not found"

    I have been having a problem for quite some time with iTunes and I can't seem to get an answer as to how to resolve it. On many of my songs listed in the iTunes library, when I click on the song I get an error message to the effect of "File not found. Would you like iTunes to try to locate this file?", and when I say "yes" to this, I get my "iTunes Music" folder (where my music files are stored) and I have to search around and find the file (which I am usually able to do) and then it plays. However, when sometime later I may try to play the song again, I get the same error message and have to go through the same process. Can anyone explain why this may be happening and how I can prevent it from happening again? What is the simplest way to store your music files on your hard drive to ensure iTunes captures everything and does not have difficulty locating files? Many thanks for your help and advice!

    This really shouldn't happen. There are no setting in iTunes to prevent it.
    If you want to do a bit of detective work, you find out where iTunes this the missing file is located.
    If you want to try this, identify a track or two with exclamation marks.
    Open iTunes Library.xml with WORDPAD. (it's in the iTunes folder)
    Use search to look for the track or album name. If you know the actual file name you can use that but watch out for spaces, the space character is represented by %20.
    WHen you have found a track or album you need to scroll to the line starting:
    <key>Location</key>
    This contains the path and file name.
    Is it correct, or something different?
    That might give you clue about files being moved or renamed.
    If it is all correct them something odd is happening with iTunes.

  • Songs that I have purchased are missing in iTunes (file not found/exclmation point), and do not show up in the iTunes Store for download.

    I have a laptop that has (or had) pretty much all of my music, both burned from CDs and downloaded from iTunes. My 17 year old son on occasion syncs his iPhone and iPad with this laptop. As of the last sync (as best I can determine), many songs that I purchased in the past few years are now missing, in that they have an exclamation point to the left of the song title, and when I try to play the song, I get an error message that says "The song could not be used because the original file could not be found" or something to that effect. As it turns out, the file seems to be erased. This has happened multiple times, and I could be wrong, but I believe that there are some songs that had the exclmation point last time he synced that now don't, and vice-versa. There is not an obvious correlation or grouping as to why these songs are missing (e.g,. they were not all purchased on the same date, not all songs from one artist are missing, etc.).
    Since most of these songs have been purchased through iTunes through my account, my reaction was to go to the iTunes store, log in with my account, and re-download them. Problem is, all of these songs instead ask me to purchase the song, instead of displaying a "cloud" logo. Therefore, it appears that I have to re-purchase these songs, which does not sound correct.
    Questions: Does anyone know, most importantly (to get an immediate fix):
    1. How can I re-download these songs and why doesn't iTunes Store recognize that I have already purchased them?
    and perhaps as important (more of a long-term question):
    2. Why does this happen and how can I prevent this from happening again (since it has happened multiple times)?
    Thanks.

    1. iTunes won't offer cloud downloads for songs that it "thinks" are in your library, even if it "knows" the files are missing. If you've exhaustively searched for the missing files and there is no prospect of repair by restoring to them to their original locations, or connecting to new ones, then delete that tracks that display both the missing exclamation mark and are of media kind Purchased/Protected AAC audio file. Don't hide from iTunes in the cloud when asked, close iTunes, then reopen. You can download from the cloud links or iTunes Store > Quicklinks > Purchased > Music > Not on this computer > All songs > Download all.
    2. Why? Not sure, perhaps 3rd party tools or accidental key presses combined with previously hidden warning messages when trying to organize the library. There is a hint that using the feature to downsample media as it is synced to a device may also be involved, though I've not replicated it. Whatever the reason a backup would protect your media.

  • ITunes files not found

    I had to have my computer completely cleaned due to a plethera of spyware & adware on it. When I reloaded iTunes, many of the songs in my library had an "!" icon next to them. When I tried to listen to the songs, it gave me an error message "files can't be located". I am extremely upset becuz most of these files were purchased at the iTunes store. How can i gain access to these files?

    i recently replaced the external drive that housed my itunes library and now i'm having the same issue with items not being found.
    a small percentage of songs have an "!" next to them. itunes (v7.5) is forcing me to re-find every song even if they're part of the same album.
    many songs that don't have a "!" next to them still need to be found.
    i did a search on this issue and it appears to be a common problem. anyone have any ideas on a fix?
    cheers!

  • Cant uninstall itunes to reinstall as itunes.msi file is not where computer thinks it should be.

    Had a problem on the PC which has effected itunes which no longer opens (some source files not available).  Tried to reload itunes to repair and cant uninstall itunes to reinstall as itunes.msi file is not where computer thinks it should be to uninstall.

    With suggestion from the forum i have used the MS cleanup utility and remove entries for itunes, itunes will still not uninstall. I cannot delete folders in program files either (dll files wont delete).  So at the moment i am completely stuck.  I cant uninstall itunes on my PC, i cant reinstall itunes from the Apple website because it thinks i already have the latest version loaded.  can anyone help me get passed this sticky and akward situation.

    When trying to launch ITunes I get an error message saying that application fail to start because MSVCR80.dll file not found. Reinstalling app may fix problem.

    I've just (finally) managed to fix this problem today. I checked the Apple Support forums, and it seems a lot of people are having the same problem.
    I rang the Apple Support line, and the very helpful man (thanks Alan!) talked me through it stage by stage. If you go to the following page on the internet: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5376   it takes you through the process. WARNING - it takes a little time!
    Basically, the first thing you have to do is go to your Program Files and double click on your iTunes folder. There'll be a number of files with the suffix .dll - you need to move all the .dll files from that folder to your desktop - you can simply click and drag them on the desktop..
    Next, uninstall iTunes - go to Control Panel / Add/Rempve Programs and when the list comes up remove iTunes. This will take a few minutes... Then reboot your computer.
    Next, go back to Control Panel / Add Remove and Remove - IN THIS ORDER -
    Apple Software Update
    Apple Mobile Device Support
    Bonjour
    Apple Application Support
    Reboot again!
    Next, check in your Program Files that the iTunes folder is completely gone - if it has, great: if it hasn't, right-click on the folder and press Shift and Delete - it will say "Are you sure you want to completely remove the folder "iTunes"? Click on "Yes".
    Reboot!
    Then go to the iTunes download page and voila! It should download iTunes without any problems... well it did for me.... Good luck!

  • File not found error on Uninstall

    Hi,
    Got a problem with the deinstallation of Labviewer. I deployed Labviewer with all moduls using the setup.exe's and specfiles.
    Installation worked fine and the software runs well.
    But when I try to uninstall running "uninst.exe /log C:\temp\uninst.log /qb /x all"
    It immediatly starts with an error stating "File not found RegDeleteKey" (see Attachment).
    Judging by ProcMon and ProcessExplorer the Exception i caused from the nirg.exe.
    If I click ok, the deinstallation goes on and finishes. Anyone an Idea on this topic?
    Greetings, Alex

    Yes that is excactly the problem.
    The System is Windows 7 64Bit (Enterprise) and I used Labviewer 12. We installed all Modules from the 4 DVDs provided , as this was requested by the department which will use the software.
    The error itself seems to be connected to the NIRG module. If I leave NIRG out from the installation, the deinstallation of all other modules works without an error.

  • File not Found error when synching Ipod

    I have a fairly new Ipod and synced successfully for months, but now iTunes says it cant synch because of a "File not Found error" (no error number or other clues). I'm running the latest iTines and Ipod software, and I've reset USB drivers but still no luck. I cant reset the iPod itself becase I then got a "1418 error", which is why I then reset USB. I'm stuck, has anyone seen this before?
    The Ipod itself plays fine and Itunes recgnises it OK, albeit very slowly, even thought I'm using USB 2.
    One other piece of info; when this first happened, the sync must have first deleted the songs I no longer wanted, prior to unsuccesfully adding new ones. Those old songs show up on the iPod but are skipped when I try to play them.

    Its on the same thread as this one ("connecting iPod nano (second Generation ) to Windows"). Scroll through the authors, you will find it.

  • Getting error message file not found unable to sync to ipod

    90 percent of my music from my playlists wont load to my ipod. It has loaded in the past nut now i get message file not found unable to sync. Meanwhile I can play all of this music out of itunes I just cant seem to load it to my ipod. why? all of the songs in the playlists seem to have an "!" next to them in the track list. That is until i play them then it goes away im not sure if these things are related but i think they may be. plaese help

    +all of the songs in the playlists seem to have an "!" next to them in the track list. That is until i play them then it goes away im not sure if these things are related but i think they may be.+
    Yes, I'm sure they are related. I have no idea how your PC/itunes got into that state. What's happening now, is itunes thinks it doesn't know where the file is on your PC's hard drive, but when you double-click it, it mysteriously finds it.
    I suspect after itunes finds it again, it will load to your ipod.
    Is this music on an external HD?

  • I cant uninstall itunes

    Help someone.... I am really confused. I cant uninstall itunes to get the newer version (which I apparently need)
    says the program is a network resorce and it is unavailible...... HELP!!

    Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
    Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. (The results from mydigitallife and Major Geeks are worth checking.)
    After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
    If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
    Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
    Quit out of CleanUp. Restart the PC, and try another iTunes install. Does it go through properly this time?

    Try a more recent version of my advice. The "for older video cards version" may work when the default version doesn't.
    For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
    The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
    The further information area has direct links to the current and recent builds in case you have problems downloading, need to revert to an older version or want to try the iTunes for Windows (64-bit - for older video cards) release as a workaround for installation or performance issues, or compatibility with QuickTime or third party software.
    Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there are also links to backup and recovery advice should it be needed.

  • "File Not Found" when addCourse through iTunesU web service.

    I have problem to add Course to my institute's iTunesU site through Web Service.
    I was able to get the xml doc back through showTree operation and here is part of it:
    <Site>
    <Name>my institute's name</Name>
    <Handle>123</Handle>
    <AggregateFileSize>63057465318</AggregateFileSize>
    <Section> <Name>Your Classes</Name>
    <Handle>456</Handle>
    <AggregateFileSize>57423912007</AggregateFileSize>
    <Course>
    <Name>course 1</Name>
    <Handle>111</Handle>
    </Course>
    </Section>
    <Section>
    I was able to get the uploadURL back too. The URL to get the uploadURL request:
    https://deimos.apple.com/WebObjects/Core.woa/API/GetUploadURL/myInstitute.edu.45 6?type=XMLControlFile
    The uploadURL I got back looks like:
    https://deimos2.apple.com/WebObjects/Files.woa/Upload/myInstitute.edu.456/X_1371095208_1a.43c06fa3.467dc4f2/%5Banonymous1371095208%5D/0046e71254900a071aa9241221a469d98ff1ef6fa973544c45ef9 5260dac6c64f05b10aefc
    But when I use the uploadURL above and post the addCourse.xml:
    <ITunesUDocument>
    <AddCourse>
    <ParentHandle>456</ParentHandle>
    <Course>
    <Name>Jing Test iTunesU Web service Course</Name>
    <ShortName>Jing Test</ShortName>
    </Course>
    </AddCourse>
    </ITunesUDocument>
    The response I got
    <error>File Not Found</error> File Not Found
    I used myInstitute.edu.456 to get the uploadURL and set it to ParentHandle on addCourse.xml since 456 is the section handler in whoch I want to add the course.
    I tried to remove 456 from the myInstitute.edu to get the uploadURL and then use it to add course, got the same error.
    Is there something wrong with the URL I used to get the uploadURL?
    here is the code and the values pass to the methodI used to send addCourse request:
    url = uploadURl on above
    name="file"
    fileName="file.xml";
    data=addCourse xml on above
    contentType="text/xml"
    public String invokeAction(String url,
    String name,
    String fileName,
    String data,
    String contentType) throws MessagingException {
    // Send a request to iTunes U and record the response.
    StringBuffer response = null;
    System.out.println("xml doc: ---" + data);
    try {
    // Verify that the communication will be over SSL.
    if (!url.startsWith("https")) {
    throw new MalformedURLException("ITunesUFilePOST.invokeAction(): URL \""
    + url + "\" does not use HTTPS.");
    // Build the multipart data.
    MimeMultipart multipart = new MimeMultipart();
    MultipartFormBuilder.addMultipartFormBody(multipart,
    name,
    fileName,
    data,
    contentType);
    // Create a connection to the requested iTunes U URL.
    HttpURLConnection connection =
    (HttpURLConnection) new URL(url).openConnection();
    connection.setUseCaches(false);
    connection.setDoOutput(true);
    connection.setRequestMethod("POST");
    connection.setRequestProperty("Content-Type",
    "multipart/form-data; boundary="
    + MultipartFormBuilder.getMultipartBoundary(multipart));
    String multipartData = MultipartFormBuilder.getMultipartData(multipart);
    // Send the multipart data to iTunes U.
    connection.connect();
    OutputStream output = connection.getOutputStream();
    output.write(multipartData.getBytes("UTF-8"));
    output.flush();
    output.close();
    // Read iTunes U's response.
    response = new StringBuffer();
    InputStream input = connection.getInputStream();
    Reader reader = new InputStreamReader(input, "UTF-8");
    reader = new BufferedReader(reader);
    char[] buffer = new char[16 * 1024];
    for (int n = 0; n >= 0;) {
    n = reader.read(buffer, 0, buffer.length);
    if (n > 0) response.append(buffer, 0, n);
    // Clean up.
    input.close();
    connection.disconnect();
    } catch (UnsupportedEncodingException e) {
    // ITunes U requires UTF-8 and ASCII encoding support.
    throw new java.lang.AssertionError("ITunesUFilePOST.invokeAction(): UTF-8 encoding not supported!");
    } catch (IOException e) {
    // Report communication problems.
    throw new java.lang.AssertionError("ITunesUFilePOST.invokeAction(): I/O Exception " + e);
    // Return the response received from iTunes U.
    System.out.println("response from ITunesUFilePOST: " + response.toString());
    return response.toString();
    }

    I'm having a similar "File Not Found" error, but it's happening for any API request other than GetUploadURL. I'm sending a POST request to the GetUploadURL, and that part is working correctly, as I get a URL such as the following:
    https://deimos2.apple.com/WebObjects/Files.woa/Upload/wvu.edu/X_1372071795_4d9433be.4c3fdd3d.4c3fdd3e/%22Chris%20Scharf%22%20%3Ccbscharf%40mail.wvu.edu%3E%20%28cbscharf%29%20%5B3258 7%5D/0046eaaaf078cf5d6b60f18926106a50a5050cf8f9c91a7608074e6d2949a8759017969ece
    Then, I've tried using curl (within 90 seconds) to submit a simple XML document containing a ShowTree request:
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8"?>
    <ITunesUDocument>
    <ShowTree>
    <KeyGroup>most</KeyGroup>
    </ShowTree>
    </ITunesUDocument>
    The command executed is "curl -F file=test.xml URL" (where URL is the URL retrieved from GetUploadURL. But I simply get "<error>File Not Found</error>"
    I'm correctly sending credentials, since I'm getting upload URLs. And it's not an issue with the XML document, since it's not even getting to the server.
