Ive been trying to uninstall quicktime so I can download another version but keep getting yet another error.

  • Cant uninstall QuickTime X

Trying to update to QuickTime 7, but it gives me an error saying QuickTime X is present and should be removed first. When I go to the System Preferences, QuickTime does not show. I deleted it from the Applications folder, but obviously that wasn't good enough. I'm still getting the same error.
How do I delete QuickTime if I can't see it to install?
I'm running Mac OS X Ver 10.6.3 on a MacBook.
    Any help is appreciated.

Do not attempt to uninstall Quicktime, it is an integral part of the operating system.
The version you need of Quicktime Player 7 for Snow Leopard is not available for download.
QuickTime Player 7 is in your Applications/Utilities folder (if you've got it installed). If not you can install it from the Snow Leopard DVD (Optional Installs).

  • Cant uninstall quicktime in windows

I got an error message when i was upgrading my iTunes from 4.9 to 6.0. It has a error code -3 when it is installing quicktime. I went to the apple website and download the standalone version of quicktime and tried to install it. But it said error 1714 : Older version of quicktime cannot be removed, pLease contact technical support group. I am wondering how to solve these problems. I cannot run the iTunes application now.

    Hey Howard:
I feel for ya man. I got the same problem with quicktime 7 for WIN but I get a different error, "0x80040707". I think Apple's got too big for its own good and is putting out some crap out there with out testing it extensively.

  • Help! quicktime wont run and i cant uninstall or reinstall!!

    problem:
When I enter the quicktime website, I get these two error messeges, one after the other: "An error occurred inside a plug-in contained on this page" and "The plugin did not initialize properly". If I try to watch a movie trailor, I get this error messege:
    "Buffer overrun detected!
    Program C:/Program Files/Internet Explorer/iexplorer.exe
A bufffer overrun has been detected which has corrupted the programs internal state. The program cannot safely continue execution and must be terminated now"
I tried uninstalling quicktime. I got this message:
    "Error Number: 0x80040707
Description: DLL function call crashed: QTInstallCode.QuickTimeUnInstallProc
    Setup will now terminate"
    Then the setup wizard states:
    "InstallSheild Wizard is Completed.
The wizard was interrupted before Quick Time could be completely installed.
The system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run the installation again.
    Click Finish to exit Wizard."
This same error message appeared when I tried to reinstall quicktime.
    breif history:
I had newest quicktime (NOT PRO) on E://. Then i got a virus on C://. I reformatted C://. After that, I installed iTunes, Windows Media Player 10, ACE Codecs Pack (all codecs and filters, the rest was default), and Quicktime (NOT PRO) on C:// (I still have it on E:// though). I don't know if any of these have contributed to the failure of Quicktime running on my computer.
If anyone knows how to help, please do!
    regards

Sounds like the update may have corrupted your operating system. You will likely have to erase the phone using DFU restore mode and reinstall the operating system from scrach. The process is outlined in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ujhBn9v3zOo . You may restore from backup once the process is complete to get your data/pictures back.

  • Cant uninstall itunes because 'itunes.msi' cant be found

    hi,
while trying to update itunes to 9.2 version the update failed due to the bonjour file,i restarted the pc tried to open the itunes programme from the desktop short cut and got message 'this action is only valid for products that are currently installed'. now i can only open itunes by going through the my music-itunes-itunes media etc route when everything in itunes works fine.
After updating the software on my ipod touch to the 4.0 update, i am then informed that the ipod will only work with itunes 9.2. I try to install the itunes update and get the same mesage as before...'cant uninstall previous version of itunes'
i try to uninstall itunes..quicktime..apple software update etc as stated on apple support site and all i get is 'the feature you are trying to use is on a network resourse that is unavailable' and when i try i cant find the installation package 'itunes.msi'
    Can somebody help my please??

Glad you got things working again.
Were you able to track down a working download site for version 3.0, or did you have to try a 2.5? (Download sites for 3.0 seem to be as rare as hen's teeth, now.)

  • Problem w/ uninstalling quicktime HELP!

    Dell   Windows XP

Thank you so much for your response. Whew that took a good 2 hours. I finally got it fixed. After the failed attempts to uninstall quicktime I found this:
*1. Go to C:\Program Files, then delete the entire QuickTime folder.*
*2. Click Start - Find/Search - All Files And Folders, select the hard drive ( C: ) to look in, type in QuickTime, then click Find/Search. when the list of files appear, right-click on and delete all the ones that you confirm are associated with QuickTime.*
*3. Click Start - Run, type in REGEDIT, then click OK. Click the + in:*
    HKEYLOCALMACHINE
    Software
*In the Software sub-menu, right-click directly on the Apple Computer entry, then click Delete - Yes.*
*(Note: If you click the + in the "Apple Computer" entry, you'll see "QuickTime" listed there)*
Then I tried uninstalling again and it worked. Then I installed an earlier quicktime and took out itunes and installed itunes 7.4. Everything works fine now. Thanks again though!!

I managed to remove the Quicktime entries and get iTunes working again on the machine. At last! And without the need for an operating system restore.

  • Cant uninstall iPod for windows before Installing 7.0.2

Im using Windows XP. When I tried to install iTunes 7.0.2, it told me to uninstall previous iTunes software which I did. Then during installation is out up error message cant install until I uninstall previous iPod software. I have a program called iPod for Windows listed, but no matter what I do in the Delete Program it wont uninstall. Cant go any further. I also uninstalled Quicktime already from a related topic.
    Thanks in advance.

I finally gave up on iTunes 7. After uninstalling iTunes 7 and reinstalling iTunes 6, my iPod became more reliable and Windows XP would consistently mount it. Even though iTunes 7 is well conceived, I founded considerably slower than version 6. The slowdown becomes apparent when iTunes automatically starts with connecting an iPod. Syncing the iPod with a large music database will cause a slowdown; even a crash.
I do not believe that iTunes is multi-threading well on Windows XP. My other syncing applications do not put a strain on my computer’s resources. My computer handles Photoshop 10 megapixel processing and a 2 gigs bi-directional sync over my network without a hiccup. iTune grinds my computer to a halt with just a 2 gigs syncing to the iPod. In addition, all startup items were disabled in the troubleshooting process.
Even though features like the Summary tabs and view by album art appeal to me, I will hold off on the iTunes 7 upgrade in place of speed and reliability. I have a couple recommendations as well. These suggestions are for people with large music databases and a large number of hard drive and firewire devices.
TURN ON – Automatically update selected playlist only
TURN OFF – Open iTunes when this iPod is attached
If you restore you iPod, leave your computer alone for several hours while iTunes fills up a large capacity iPod. It took me all weekend to reload my iPod.

Unfortunately, this sort of trouble has gotten more complicated to deal with ever since Microsoft pulled the Windows Installer CleanUp utility from their Download Center on June 25. First we have to find a copy of the utility.
Let's try Googling. (Best not to use Bing, I think.) Look for a working download site for at least version 3.0 of the Windows Installer CleanUp utility. After downloading the utility installer file (msicuu2.exe), scan the file for malware, just in case. (I use the free version of Malwarebytes AntiMalware to do single-file scans for that.)
If the file is clean, to install the utility, doubleclick the msicuu2.exe file you've downloaded.
Now run the utility ("Start > All Programs > Windows Install Clean Up"). In the list of programs that appears in CleanUp, select any iTunes entries and click "Remove".
Quit out of CleanUp, restart the PC and try installing iTunes again. Does the install go through properly now?
(If you do find a clean download site for the correct version of CleanUp, please don't tell me where it is. Without wishing to sound paranoid (although I grant it does sound paranoid), there is a non-zero chance that posting links to download locations for the utility here at Discussions leads to that download location being shut down.)

  • I accidentally uninstalled QuickTime, and now iTunes won't open. What do i do?

I was uninstalling some programs on my laptop since it has too much. I uninstalled QuickTime, not knowing it was needed to open iTunes. So, now, I downloaded QuickTime so that i can reinstall it. However, it said that it's "not a valid Win32 application." Before that, I tried to open my iTunes, but it said that it needed to be uninstalled and reinstalled. So, i did just that. I saw an old itunes setup in one of my folders. However, it was an old version, so it won't open. So now, as i'm typing this, i'm downloading the latest itunes in hopes of getting it right. What should i do? Can anyone help me?

You can install it again from mac OS dvd, there's a folder named "optional installs" or "additional installs"with a installer in there, simply pen that installer and select from the list  QuickTime and that's all

  • Can't get iTunes to open, Can't uninstall QuickTime. Why?

When I try to open QuickTime I get "Error -2095, make sure QuickTime is properly installed." Vers 6.5.0.48
When I try to open iTunes "encountered a problem and needs to close." Vers 7.0.2.16
I read forum and advice was to uninstall iTunes, which I was able to do successfully.
Then I tried to uninstall QuickTime and got: C:\windows\system32\QUICKT~1\UNINS~1.log
    Exception C:\windows\system32\shell32.dll\control_rundll
I went to windows explorer and found system32\QuickTime and the uninstall file is there but system does not think it is there.
I am in a quandry. I love my ipod nano, 2gb, which I bought a few days ago, but I sure wish I had read these forum postings before buying. I am discouraged, disheartened, disappointed.
I have 363 songs on my ipod now and would love to move new songs to ipod, but can't get anything to work.
Any help out there? Is there anyone from Apple who can help? hello? Is there a phone number for Apple tech support?
Thanks for any help on this issue.

    Check out this Apple help:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=93976
It sounds as though you need the bit towards the bottom of that page called:
Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer
You can get the Windows Installer Cleanup utility here:
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301/
BTW iTunes cannot work if Quicktime doesn't work.

  • Unable to uninstall Quicktime

I get the following error when I try to access the QuickTime settings in the control panel:
An exception occurred while trying to run "C:\Windows\system32\shell32.dll, Control_RunDLL "C:\Windows\system\QuickTime.cpl", QuickTime"
When I try to open iTunes, it fails and the "Send an error report to Microsoft?" box appears. I am unable to uninstall quicktime and re-download it. Any ideas?
      Windows XP

Currently I am also unable to reinstall Quicktime as well, but here is what I can suggest:
    1) Type "93976" into the support box and find the solution post by Apple and see if that helps.
    2) I reccomend the Mircosoft Uninstaller Utility just as a tool to fix any nonresponsive programs (such as The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion on my computer- would not uninstall). This can be found in the solutions list titled: "Clean up iTunes installer files on the computer" at the bottom. Use it to uninstall the programs.
    3) Call the Apple support line: 1-800-275-2273 (USA)
and talk with a professional and demand answers (do not accept "Go to an Apple store").
    4) Look at other threads and look for solutions.
As I said at the top, I also cannot reinstall Quicktime, so this might be a program installation error, which hopefully will be fixed soon. Keep me posted if you get any results.
