I also, forgot my password, made a new one and it says:
Also, it does now allow for a purchase in the app store. I read somewhere it was $14.99. Ill pay it to get my iphoto library to work, but it doesn't have a price, it only says "update". Its got me going in circles.

I have been trying to update imovie and iphoto but i keep getting the same message and dont know how to go about it. Help please!

You obviously haven't bothered to read the software license agreement that covers iPhoto.
    It states exactly what I have been explaining to folks that you now come along and contradict;
    http://www.apple.com/legal/sla/docs/iPhoto.pdf (underlining mine)
    B. If you obtained the Apple Software preinstalled by Apple on Apple-branded hardware, in order to use the Apple Software on more than one of the Apple-branded computers you own or control under the Mac App Store Product Usage Rules, you must log in to the Mac App Store and associate the Apple Software with your Mac App Store account. If you choose not to associate the preinstalled Apple Software with your Mac App Store account, you are permitted to install, use and run one (1) copy of the Apple Software on a single Apple-branded computer at any one time. Please also note that by choosing to associate the preinstalled Apple Software with your Mac App Store account, you will also associate any other Apple software applications (i.e., iMovie and GarageBand) that are provided to you as part of the same preinstalled application bundle.
You have been lucky, because they realized that you were not intelligent enough to work with logically or to understand the license agreement, the Apple employees likely gave you these redemption codes to get rid of you. I seriously doubt that Apple is going to make a policy and give every user redemtion codes because they fail to read the terms of use and fail to associate their iLfe apps to their Apple ID correctly.
There is no bug. It works this way by design.

  • Cannot update iMovie and iPhoto from Apple Store using Mountain Lion

    Hi,
Everytime I try and update iMovie and iPhoto from the App Store I get an "an error has occured" followed by a "There was an error in the App Store. Please try again later. (20)." I tried to download the update from the apple website, but much to my chagrin I was told "The version of iPhoto installed on this Mac must be updated through the Mac App Store. Check the Mac App Store to see if an update is available."
    Help anyone?
    Thanks,

I have only had one AppleID ever.  I do not have any other AppleIDs.  My kids have thier own... and only one each for this very reason.  Pick an ID and stick with it becuase it will be with you the life of ownership of Apple products.

    Hi sberman,
I just realized the reason that I lose imovie and iphoto.
When I got my mac, imovie and iphoto was free as a promotion.
Two weeks ago, my flash drive had some problem and I had to reinstall my mac. I totally forgot that imovie and iphoto is not always a complimentary application, so I didnt back them up.
Now I lose both of them... ((((((
Do you think I can get them back for free at apple store???

  • I can't update the iMovie and iPhoto because i bought my Mac book pro off amazon. is there a way i can take it to Apple and have them fix it? do i need to buy something? New to the whole Apple merchandise lol.

the title pretty much explains what i need help on....

It is probably nothing to dowith where you bought you Mac.
It is most likely because you did not accept them into your Mac App Store account before using the apps when you set up the new Mac. So now they are one-trick-ponies that cannot be installed on any other Mac you may own, nor updated, as per their Terms of Use.

  • Update iMovie and iPhoto.

I updated to Yosemite and now I cannot update iphoto or imovie. The update says,  "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled." How can this be? I have had the programs on my computer ever since I purchased it 3 years ago. Help please.

    Hello russswaim,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
The following article discussing buying and downloading apps:
Mac App Store: Buy, download, and install apps
The most relevant part for your issue is in the section on "Download purchased apps on all your Mac computers". That being: "sign in using the Apple ID you used to purchase the app."
    Regards,
    Jeff D.

  • My 15" Macbook Pro running Yosemite keeps updating iMovie and iPhoto to one compatible with Yosemite the it updates again to the previous version that is not. Then it repeats itself.

My Macbook Pro keeps updating iPhoto and iMovie between the version compatible with Yosemite and the previous versions. It does it at least daily. Why doesn't the App store understand when those two programs have been updated?

  • Can't update iMovie and iPhoto

My computer lately had some issues, and we took it to the apple store to fix it, and unfortunately they had to wipe out all my data before and start all over again. Now, for some reason, iPhoto and iMovie aren't with the newest update, and I want to update it, but it keeps saying that the apple ID was used to update it before, so it can't do that for some reason. What should I do?

  • I can't download garageband, iMovie and iPhoto because it says that the apps were already assigned to another apple id

I reinstalled the mac os and when I open the app utility, it shows that I have these three apps ready for download.  I sign in with my apple id, but the dowload is blocked because it says that they have been assigned to another apple id.  This probable refers to the previous owner.  Apple support (phone) stated that after the reinstall, the apps should be available to me.  Any ideas anyone?

It certainally is a mess.  The other previous owners Apple ID is associate with the Mac, and best buy just reboxed it without checking anything apparently.  I would call them and complain and see what they say.  Also, call AppleCare and tell them you recieved incorrect information last time you called.  They have a record of the last time you called and why.  They need to help you.  This is not your fault.

  • Can't update iMovie or iPhoto, says that I need to use a different apple ID

I got my iMac quite a few months ago, and ever since then my iMovie and iPhoto has refused to update, now it even won't let me download my "iBooks Author" app. My iMac was bought used, but an employee at the apple store gave it a new "brain" after that and also made the iMac have the same features as the iMac one bigger in size. The specific alert that comes up when I try to update iMovie and iPhoto is: "This update is not available for this Apple ID either because it was bought by a different user or the item was refunded or cancelled". I have talked to the friend/employee about this problem and the only way he could think of was to get a hold of apple and allow them to access my computer remotely to try and fix it. BUT- I really don't want strangers going onto my computer to be honest. So I was wondering, is there another way I could fix this myself? I have tried to use 2 of my apple IDs to update it but neither work. And it would be really good if I could update soon because ever since I got the new mavericks update it isn't letting me use iPhoto 'till I update it again, because apparently this version doesn't support the old iPhoto. I really need to update so I can download photos onto my computer again!!! Hopefully all my photos are not gone, I have never got to back them up yet! PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!

You can not login into iTunes or the App Store using VPP credentials. You must purchase all apps/book/etc.  from the VPP website. Then you can redeem the codes thru itunes/app store or import the codes thru apple configurator. Here is the url for the VPP website: https://volume.itunes.apple.com/WebObjects/MZFinance.woa/wa/login?cc=us
(It will not affect any of the apps you already have but the id can only be used for VPP.)
